Born and raised in the PNW, Ali Winters is a USA Today bestselling and the award-winning author of The Vampire Debt series and The Hunted series.
She’s been mesmerized by the extraordinary worlds within books for as long as she can remember. One evening an idea for a book formed and refused to leave until she wrote it. She jumped headfirst into the career that has called to her since she opened her first book. And there hasn’t been a single moment without a story begging to be told since.
The Vampire Debt The Vampire Curse The Vampire Court The Vampire Oath The Vampire Crown (March. 2022) The Vampire Betrayal (A prequel/origin bonus story. Release date: TBD)
I am very disappointed. I enjoyed the first two books of this series, but I just can't go on with this one.
Everything in this book feels rushed. It is a succession of events without anything to fill the in-between. Everything happens so quickly, there is no character development and almost no interactions between Clara and Alaric. It feels more like a rough plan than a finished book. It needs more details and some pages where nothing happens so we can catch a breath between the action scenes and the shocking revelations. There are many inconsistencies and overall, I couldn’t enjoy this book.
First, Clara arrives at the castle and learns that Alaric is in fact the prince of the vampire and meant to be with the queen. He then proceeds to teach her how to defend herself because she can’t trust anyone (not even him according to his own words). She can’t fight at all, but she somehow manages to kill a vampire out of pure luck because it is made clear that they are fast enough to evade her if she swipes her dagger at them, yet here she goes slicing the throat of a vampire. There is apparently no follow-up and no consequence to this murder so I am not sure what it brings to the story.
After that, Clara finds a secret passage, again out of pure luck (or because she is clumsy maybe?). She then meets Oliver who offers to take her away and make her his mate and finds
Alaric is an ass in this book. I get that he has a role to play, but even that is not consistent. He purposely and very carefully ignores Clara (so the queen would not notice her I assume?) while they were at a ball, only to invite her to dance with him and go outside alone with her a few minutes later, making the whole ignoring thing kind of pointless. Talking about lack of consistency, the queen is trying to get Alaric to stay with her, she threatens to kill Clara if he does not accept to have breakfast with her, but she never thinks about threatening Clara to get him to stay (or maybe it comes later in the story?).
I could go on with all the things that bother me in this book. It is sad because it was a nice series that I enjoyed up until this book.
This series gets better and better with each story. And I know I've said that with previous books but it's so true.
This book had me not only on the edge of my seat but gripping it with both hands!
Clara's life is CRAZY. Ali Winters's writing is flawless and each scene is so thought-out that I was sucked into the story so hard it was difficult to get out!
Clara and Alaric's relationship takes on a whole new turn when they enter the Queen's castle and it just gets more crazy with each page. I was so ready to see how it ended and it's so rewarded to finish the story. I can't wait to read what else happens with Clara and Alaric.
(Did I mention Cassius sounds hot...? I can't wait to see more of him in book four!)
I'd recommend this book to any vampire lover. It has so much tension, love, hurt, a talking bat and so so so much more!!
I loved the first two books in this series ! But I had a hard time finishing this one.
The MC, Clara, who at first was smart and witty, is now stupid beyond saving. She gets lost in a castle full of vampire 3 times because she wandered, "lost in her thought". And she's attacked EVERYTIME ! 🙄
Not only is this repetitive, she now seems like a no brainer. Also, she complains about being weak, but when Cassius offers to train her, she acts like a spoiled brat who doesn't want to get out of bed.
God was she irritating.
Alaric was also particulary useless. Still, this opens up a lot of possibilities, and I hope that Clara will be able to save him in the next two books. It would be really fun to read about a female MC who saves the day instead of a guy.
Will I continue this series ? Sure. The plot is intriguing. I have so many questions. Let's just pray that Clara will go back to being this MC I loved in the first two books !
I really enjoyed the first in this series - it is not getting better but worse. This one I really had to drag myself to finish and I'm not sure I'll continue on. The challenge is that initially Clara, the main character, was so feisty in the first book but now by book 3 she is irritating; she does stupid things (I'm not marked by a vampire but I'm going to go by myself to explore this castle full of vampires and than am shocked when I get attacked), she is not very kind either to those who are helping her; I get it some of these people tried to kill you in the past but now they are helping you maybe dial back the snark. Also why wouldn't this girl use the demon, the enemy of your enemy is your friend. Clearly this demon is a threat to Elizabeth, Elizabeth is trying to kill you - release the demon dummy! Also the romance was so syrupy. Blah. Valric, the hero moons all the time but seems unable to do anything of substance. Maybe this book and the series would be good for those new to romance/fantasy genre or those who really need a fix, but I'm thinking of quitting it.
OMG, This book was amazing, I thought the first two were out of this world, this one blew them away. It moves along at a really great reading speed which is neither too fast nor too slow, has characters that you fall in love with and wanna knw more about and no matter what happens you want to see them overcome everything in there way. This book is a must read and needs to be read.
Ali Winter does it again with this installment. The only thing I wish is for it to be longer. Lol. I devour her books and then wait anxiously for the next one.
no words just tears bc clalaric own me now. cassius better not end up being a lil bitch bc i’m counting on him now. ugh. i need 10-14 business days to recover.
Man, this series is addicting! The story line enters a whole new level of complicated in The Vampire Court. Characters you hate you might learn to like. Characters you love might end up in your naughty list.
Poor, poor Clara goes through the wringer. The woman can’t catch a break. I’m curious to see what path she goes down next because there’s definitely a fork in her road.
Alaric... Cassias... yeah, I can’t go into much with them without going all spoiler-y.
Now Elizabeth, the vampire queen. That is a character I love to hate! She’s manipulating, evil, and devious. Well done Ms. Winter!
I bought this book when it came out and im simultaneously mad and glad i waited til now. Mad because it was really good and I read ot in one sitting and glad because i only have a month to wait til book 4. This book was extremely fast paced with good character development and plot. Im excitedly to see this story continue and expand.
Maybe I should have slowed down! 🤣 I finished this lovely in a few hours after reading Vampire Curse... ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I loved the quick action and pace of this. Clara is thrust into the court of vampires so would we expect anything less? Without giving too much away... I want more Varin and Cassius like right now I'm seriously intrigued by them both. Also I hope someone who shall go unnamed gets what they deserve. Patiently waits for The Vampire Oath- well sort of 😆
Okay this series is getting better and better. When you think stuff is fixed. NO it absolutely isn’t. Which makes it a lot better to read. This girl Clara is like I don’t really care, but I will kill anyone who’s in my way. I really appreciate that, because she’s not like other girls. I still feel like these books are short. They just are or I like them that much that it just isn’t enough for me.
Book 3 in this series. I’d definitely recommend reading the previous books before this one; this book starts off right where the last one ended. This story continues on in the next book, so there’s a cliffy.
I didn’t like reading this because this is the book where pretty much everything goes wrong. I still went with a 4 rating because the story is well-written and it is an interesting read. Also, I like the vibe of this series. I’m just so annoyed; the happy was very little in this book. Clara and Alaric have been summoned to the Vampire Queen. There’s vampires galore there; very dangerous for human Clara, especially since she’s not fully marked. Also, the fact that Clara has taken out some vamps wouldn’t exactly looked upon fondly by the vamps. Cannot stand that dang queen; someone needs to take her the heck out. I actually don’t care for this take on vampires; too arrogant and selfish, makes for some good characters to hate though. Clara is put through the ringer. I’m pissed at Alaric for withholding important information, and for not taking a stand. Too much queen butt kissing going on. Get to planning Alaric! I’m not feeling it. I do appreciate the dual POV; Clara’s and Alaric’s. I do like this series, and I have some major hope that the next book will have more happy. Clara is a strong individual; I’d really love for her to just start taking more jerk vamps out, and stop going with the flow. Her life is in constant danger. Alaric also needs to step the heck up; use those brains people! There is some unexpected help, but the trust is still not there; too many deceptive people. I’m so ready for all the jerky vamps; especially the queen to be taken out! Crossing my fingers for the next book!
Mild spoilers (first few chapters) I really loved the 1st book in this series. The 2nd was alright, but this one 🤦♀️ I don't know if I can continue.... It doesn't matter how much you love someone (I'm saying this from experience). Once that person breaks your trust through lies, cheating, etc. there is no going back. If my husband was a vampire and 170+ years old and he had an old vampire lover that he still sees on occasion, and she always wants to hug and kiss and love him and he LETS HER... Clara has to realize that she is a lowly human, Alaric will have his fun with her, she will die a human and he will either go back to the Queen *or* find another human to love. Clara wants to be fully bonded, but she doesn't want to become a vampire. There is no happy ending here. She needs to move on with her life and let him live his and allow him to grieve his sister, which he hasn't done yet. Clara has grieved over how she hurt him but has not let him grieve. I just realized I'm going on a rant here.... I'll try to wrap this up. Everything is perfect in their romance, but this is looking like a Romeo and Juliette romance. There can be no happy ending unless someone re-writes their entire personality, Clara starts her change after finding her sister Kitty doing alright in the last book but now that she's making all these personality changes how can Alaric still love her? She's turning into a whiny, lazy brat. He liked her fire, now she's got none... anyways I will keep these books and attempt them later, I think.
I honestly hate how short these books are. I am always left wanting more, but I am so glad these books are finally moving along somewhere and we are getting more of a resemblance of a plot because the previous book felt messy.
- I want to know more about our side characters, particularly Cassius and Lawrence. Both intrigue me and clearly have more to them. I'd love to explore their lives a bit more and I like the sort of friendship that Cassius and Clara had in this book and how he took care of her when Alaric couldn't. - I want to know more about Elizabeth too as she was described as being this fearful queen when she instead came across as someone who pines for Alaric and it was kind of eye-rolling. - I thought Alaric was a bit dull in this book but Clara made up for it and I think her interactions with this greater demon are interesting.
I will continue to read this series because I've committed now but gradually I feel like the books are worsening.
dear Clara, it's not too late to go back and get your freedom yet you want a third bite instead...what the hell, girl?
and suddenly it's like everyone wants to attack her, and then she became a vampire slayer. Alaric is an ass indeed, but he acts more ass in this book. I'm start rooting her to runaway with Cassius instead. I think everything seems good until she bonded with Alaric. I want to see her to running away and let Alaric save himself from that evil queen
but now I'm saving myself because I'm waiting for the final book released first then I continue to read the sequel. I already tormented myself enough by reading this seriesss lmao
I really enjoyed this book and the diminishing hope for Clara and Alaric's relationship keeps me eager to read the next book. However, I did get a little annoyed with the repetition of Clara being attacked then killing a vampire. She'd been attacked so many times by other things in the first two books that the constant attacks were becoming annoying, but adding that she kills another vampire each time is getting tiring. I really hope in the next books her character arc has her becoming stronger rather than weaker like she has been doing.

3.75🌟 this is my favorite book of the series so far!! I loved the politics in this book and getting to hear from more of the side characters. I looove Cassius and although Alaric will always be the OG…I don’t know I smell a love triangle coming on here🤭 we shall see!! Elizabeth literally makes my blood boil and every time she is in a scene I CRINGE. She is the worst. I am excited to see where the story goes!
Okay first I just want to say Clara should have run off with Oli when she had the chance and why don't we care mom was killed?
Cassius is slippery and we still dont know his purpose in doing all he does other than believe he wants what Alaric has, and ultimately the Queen herself.
Not sure how she will get out of this one. Wolves are really sounding better to me than vampires haha.
I find it hard to stop reading, but what does annoy me is that it's a series with the same couple.. I do enjoy it and can't stop myself from buying all the books, but I have a serious dislike for series. They keep dragging everything out and normally I get bored easily and just quit. But this one can have my attention because I desperately want to see the outcome, what will be a true ally and what does help to stop it.
I absolutely love this story and the twist that has happened with it! I am in utter shock and love the fact that I was shocked! Now I am eagerly awaiting the next book. I read Ali's books in 1-2 days and just can't put them down. I love the story, where it came from and where it is going. Great book(s) and series.
This is the part of survival darkness games and mine control the story will take you on a ride of emotional tears and anger the store he grabs you and pulls you in to the very end and waiting to read the next book this series is an amazing series that takes you on an amazing roller coaster of excitement and love.
This series has some sort of compulsion over me. I won't lie the writing itself is a little mediocre but I am flying through these books because I need to know what happens to Clara and Alaric. This series is bringing me back to a time of fanfiction reading that is pulling me in deeper with each and every book.
Yeah it get better…. It was a little repetitive especially with the push and pull with the demon in jail but the book definitely never got boring and had my heart racing. I’m a Cassius supporter him calling Clara Little Bird I love.
I will say this is the first time I notice many spelling mistakes throughout.
Well so much of this has not gone how I expected it to. Just when you think you've got the plot down and know what's about to happen you get surprised. Again left on a cliffhanger, guessing what is going to happen in the next book. So off I go to book four now 😂
This, unfortunately, was bad. How do you accidentally wander into a vampire THREE TIMES IN THE CASTLE YOU KNOW IS DANGEROUS. Also weirdly felt like the main character had plot armor? I will be getting off this train ride here, and will only continue on with the series if it comes to Kindle Unlimited. Makes me sad, because I did enjoy the first book in this series.
