THEY TAUGHT HIM TO KILL. THEY TAUGHT HIM TO SURVIVE. NOW THE CIA WANTS HIM DEAD!

He kills from a distance, a long-range sniper rifle his weapon of choice. He's more surgeon than he is butcher, never more than one shot, one kill. The targets are not Iraqi dead-enders battling U.S. troops in Fallujah or suicide bombers targeting American soldiers in Kabul. They are not foreign despots threatening to nuke the country's west coast. They are innocent civilians in cities and towns across America, unsuspecting women and men of all ages, race, and social standing, victims of an equal opportunity assassin with a kill-count in the double digits.

But is he a serial killer, an Islamic extremist, or a domestic terrorist?

With the body-count rising, it's a question Deputy Director of the FBI Gloria Resnick must answer and answer quickly. With the killing spree threatening to become public, Resnick turns to long-time friend Dabney Berkshire, Assistant Deputy Director of the Counter-Terrorism Center of the CIA’s National Clandestine Service.

In his line of work, Berkshire knows a thing or two about assassins. More importantly, he knows a thing or two about snipers. He also knows a guy who knows a guy who can help. A former Navy SEAL credited with more kills in Iraq and Afghanistan than even the legendary American Sniper, Chris Kyle.

But will a broken-down war hero abandon the woman he loves and the war he left behind to pursue a cold-blooded killer determined to challenge even Kyle's own notorious record? To honor his fallen comrades and to atone for his own dark past, this broken-down soldier must.

When a series of brazen and sensational public attacks go wrong, the battle between hunter and the hunted turns suddenly personal. And the stakes couldn't be higher. One man willing to kill for the country he serves, the other ready to die for the woman he loves.

Great Action Thriller As one Assassin Chases Another In America!!

I enjoyed meeting Mathias, a war hero called upon by the FBI to seek out his ex-Chief from his military days, a man now believed to be the one shooting people from afar and killing with one shot. The man is quite like Mathias himself, with the same combat skills and physical abilities.
From the start the story from FBI and CIA has some holes, and the man most involved, Berkshire, is tricky like a snake!
Nice if you enjoy military reads

The first thing that came to my mind when I saw the title American Sniper was another book with the same title, the late Chris Kyle’s autobiography. I was even more surprised when I found him mentioned several times in this work of fiction. I know why Patterson inserted Chris in this work of fiction, talking about his career as a Navy Seal Sniper, his book, The American Sniper, and the movie made about him. Patterson did it to add some authenticity to the story he was writing. I’m not sure I like him drawing any comparison between Chris and the characters in this fictional tale. I knew Chris. He was and always will be an authentic hero. The comparison that Patterson made does him and his memory a grave injustice.

With those feelings aside, Patterson’s fictional tale is a page-burner, moving like a runaway freight train on a downhill incline. The characters that he creates are believable and memorable. Some are easy to like and root for. Others are easy to hate and want to see them get their just desserts. The plot, with its many twists and turns, is somewhat realistic. But as our train rushes toward ultimate destruction, we quickly discover that nothing is as it seemed. The way this story ends will blow your socks off, as assuredly as if you had stepped onto a “Bouncing Betty.”

I can’t help but wonder if Patterson is planning on another book with these characters. He certainly left an opening for it. I, for one, would love to read it.

St. Louis, MO. 30 minutes later, the man (46) exited the gun shop to the St.
His backpack was a little heavier.
Breakfast in his tummy, he paid cash, & purchased a ticket on the next Greyhound bus headed west.
Mount Rushmore National Monument (Black Hills). Sarah Petty & Elizabeth Stein (companion) were getting ready to go down the Presidential Trail.
FBI DD Gloria “Rez” Resnick (52, PhD; behavioral science) & Dabney Berkshire (Asst. DD, Counter Terrorism Center, CIA’s National Clandestine Service, Stanford U PhD; mathematics, advanced predictive analytics) were eating dinner/drinking & reminiscing.
New Orleans, LA. Shawna Gourlay (12) & the other Soul Sistas strutted onto the Whitney White Linen stage.

BANG! A head shot Shawna died in a few seconds.
BANG! The lead singer the target intended wouldn’t be dancing again.
The sound stage tech hit in the throat drowned in his own blood.
Mathias Menzies (Brookbank security Solutions, dishonorable discharge, US Navy SEALs) had gone rogue in Iraq & disappeared back into the US.

Atlanta, GA. Atlanta Gunowner’s Association Gala Fundraiser. It is hosted by Peach Tree State U Faculty of Law (2nd Amendment).
Westin Peachtree Plaza looked like the ideal spot.
FBI SA Trent Ottaway & FBI SA Lorraine Backus were assigned to the AGAG Fundraiser event.
The front page of The Washington Post read Central Park. FBI Director Charles “Chuck” Padgett (Presidential candidate, retired NFL linebacker) was assassinated.
FBI Director Padgett was recovering in hospital.

What was Mathias Menzies (Brookbank security Solutions, dishonorable discharge, US Navy SEALs) & Ezekiel “Zeke” Bohannon (CIA Black Ops, retired US Navy SEALs Captain, Iraq) discussing?

I do not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing free books from publishers & authors. Therefore, I am under no obligation to write a positive review, only an honest one.

An awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very professionally written Political Thriller book. It was quite easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a huge description list of unique characters, settings, facts etc. to keep track of. It was exciting as I hoped so I will only rate it at Political Thriller movie, or better yet a mini-TV series. It was exciting as I hoped so I will only rate it at 4/5 stars.

Thank you for the free author; Page Turner publishing; BookFunnel; Amazon Digital Services LLC. Kindle Mobi; book

I received this book as an ARC from the author in return for an honest review.

After starting this book and then finishing it within 36 hours, all I can say is "Wow, what an awesome read!!!" As one might surmise by the amount of time that it took for me to finish, I can honestly say that this book is the epitome of a modern page-Turner!!!
There were however a few minor points criticism: (1)in chapter 64: "
Bohannon only made it as far as a nearby wrought-iron garbage can before taking fire from Bohannon." ( kinda makes it sound like he was shooting at himself...); in chapter 132: "I will not hesitate to do what I didn't do to that FBI agent in Atlanta." (How can one do something that he has not yet done).
Other than these two small incongruities, I really enjoyed this novel and feel that it is worthy of a five star review. I would highly recommend this novel to fans of Lee Child and action enthusiasts.

What is it they say? “Set a thief to catch a thief” In this story we find a sniper set to catch a sniper! Following a murder by a sniper, quickly turning into a serial sniper murder scenario, the FBI start to get their act together when the Assistant Deputy Director of the Counter-Terrorism Centre of the CIA’s National Clandestine Service offers a solution to a friend from Stanford University, nowadays the Deputy Director of the FBI. Set a sniper to catch a sniper! Enter a well trained and experienced sniper veteran named Mathias who identifies this sniper as his previous team leader in overseas operations.

The story is very interesting, and there are innuendos and oblique references to who is actually behind the series of murders and why. This makes compelling reading with twists and turns and political deniability, and is bound to get the attention of thriller readers, keeping interest throughout.

I am currently about 3/4 of the way through the book and I am enjoying it very much. But I’m a little confused by the ranks formerly held by Mathias and Bohanon. The author refers to them as “Captain”, which could be either a naval rank or Marine, Army or Air Force rank. Since all Navy Seals must be members of the US Navy, I seriously doubt they served as snipers as Navy captains. Unless I’m misreading something, I think Mr. Patterson needs to study military rank structures a little more closely. That being said, I’m eagerly waiting to finish the book!

A riveting read about The Game and an introduction to Mathias. ....A specialist purchase, change of appearance and interstate travel, drew me in from the start, wondering where the journey would go next. I appreciated the observations a professional sniper might make, operating both strategically and tactically, with their peculiar set of skills; trained to observe what they shouldn’t see. Planning and operating with ingenuity and improvisation, like a counter insurgent. As a certified grief recovery specialist, I suspected years of incomplete grief, early on in the story!

A Thumping Good Tale!

Back to minimalist reviews.

American Sniper is an excellent story orat least two men, ruined by their success killing people who, mostly, deserve to die ... after a great number died for no real good reason.

Power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely. The guy who staged this whole sequence of events was corrupt from the get-go.

It's an excellent read, and I couldn't put it down.

Believable tale of politicians and black ops deals

Written with a good pace and thoughtful storyline. While the author stretches some items most of the story could be a true story of today's world. The author's push of some ideology does go a bit far but that is not for me to judge.

Brilliant read

A great thriller with elements of truth to help perpetual conspiracy theories. I loved the fact that Matias is portrayed as the underdog but keeps on achieving his targets.

Is it possible?

I guess the way the world is right now, anything is possible. The story line is exciting, scary and at times hard to believe. But I couldn't put it down. Very detailed and technical. Great job Mr. Patterson.

An action filled book!

This story was filled with some strong characters. There were so many twists and turns you could not figure out who was the good guy and who was the bad guy. In the end you find out everyone was the bad guy.

Good political thriller

Good cat and mouse game. I found it a little too much political background. The twist at the end was quite surprising.

Good action thriller. All the main characters are very conflicted. Politicians take a hit as they should. Ideologies collide. I like the very short chapters format.

A very suspenseful novel about terrorism in the United States. The author presented a realistic scenario on what could happen. I was somewhat surprised by the ending!

American Sniper

I very much enjoyed this story. Self-aggrandizement against raw guilt. The only thing I didn’t agree with was that Mathias didn’t finish what he started, but that’s another story.

It's a small group of men that can make some of the kill shots that the assassin has made and Mathias's past comes back to haunt him as he hunts him down. Can he trust the CIA or the FBI? Can he make it back to the woman who helped put him back together after he left the military?
There's some good detail about how the sniper works and his weapons. If you enjoy spy and military books you'll like this one.

Afghanistan

This novel is about US Seals as snipers and their lives after Afghanistan and Iraq. Two former snipers are recruited for missions and are pitted against each other under a clandestine cover of the US government. You really don’t know that the government is behind it all until towards the end although I had my suspicions. I can see this as the first in a series.

Keeps you on the edge of your seat from page one to the very end!

The author does a great job of taking you inside the mind of the killer as well as those looking to take him down. Will the white hats find and stop the sniper? No spoilers here, read and find out 😉

Intense

Intense and very well written story about a sniper terrorist and a equally dangerous assassin hired to hunt him down and execute him. Twists and turns keep a reader guessing.
