I have been on a real winning streak when it comes to the YA and NA genre this year. So when I got an invite to read and review this book, I jumped on it...especially after reading that awesome blurb ;)

hell yeah I did gif - Google zoeken

What I did not know, however, was that there was gonna be a major cliffy at the end !! Oh, how I hate cliffies... but I have to say that I am starting to get a bit immune. That's how many I have already been confronted with this year !!! I am starting to get used to them ... Must be a cold day in hell :P

hell must have frozen over gif - Google zoeken

Anyways, about the story... Rea and Clinton have a bit of an "opposites attract" story going on as well as an "enemies to lovers" one.

They both go to the same high school but they have very different backgrounds. Where Clinton has all the money in the world, yet no one to really love him, Rae has a mother who loves her...but almost nothing to support them, except for her mother's abusive boyfriend.

opposites poor - Google zoeken

Rae,  being where she is from, and who she is, is definitely the schools "outcast". She doesn't much care though since she is tough as nails, and she has 2 awesome friends who are loyal as hell.

Both Rae and Clinton have it hard at home, but it is Clinton who takes his own hurt and projects it on others....specifically Rae. She becomes his most favorite target.

But what when a night of loneliness and heartache shows them that they aren't so different. And more importantly...that they hurt less when they are together...

you make me feel better gif - Google zoeken

I really enjoyed this one, though, in the beginning, I felt like I was being dropped in the middle of an ongoing story. I would have liked to read more about Rae's past ... both in her home life as in this particular high school. I wanted to know how she was treated in school in the past and how she met her friends.

I also wanted to know more about her mother's boyfriend. I know it is all just background details... but I am greedy like that, especially when I like a story.

I want it all gif - Google zoeken

Thankfully there is more to come. I just hope we won't have to wait too long...especially with that major cliffy !! I need to know what happens.... NOW PLEASE !!!

This book is missing originality of the story. I feel like reading snippet of many YA books and jams it into this book. I have to admit the author done a good job on writing it again. The topic of this book is about bullying and high school issues. Such as popularity, domestic abuse, friendship and first love.

I also have problem with Rae. When she witnesses domestic abuse, instead of reporting to authority, she keeps it herself. That is so wrong. I lost my respect for her. During the last minute of the story, she becomes a childish heroine. Instead of dialing 911, she more focusing on the status of Clint as a boyfriend.
And Clint.. well, he is such a mess up hero. I do not have any idea what should I feel about him.

The topic in this book is way too mature for YA. This book is like a tangle of spaghetti. Overall I do not like this book, but I do admire the writing talent of this author.

Considering how stupid and pathetic Bully Romance are out there, this one was not that bad.

The beginning piqued my interest so I kept on reading.
The h was not desperate or lusting over the H. And that held my attention.

H and h hate each other. H has been bullying the h for a long time. She is a poor girl in a school full of rich kids. Luckily she has two good friends who look out for her.
So the book begins with the start of new year.
Both the MCs have bad family. The h has a useless addict mom while the H has an aggressive abusive father.
The H is of course a manwhore and has useless friends. He keeps teasing the h and bullying her and she gives it back to him.

There’s nothing new about the story. But I read it because atleast the h was not a doormat.
You can read it or ignore it. Doesn’t matter.

Also there’s cliffhanger at the end, which I will let hanging.
End of the series for me.

Eh it was okay but the ending kind of annoyed me.

Play With Me was a long book - at least for me. Yes, I did get bored here and there. Plus the characters were annoying to deal with. It wasn't just the main ones... no the side ones were just as awful. Ugh, I hated them all so much.

In it, you will meet Rae and Clint. She's from the wrong side of the tracks (meaning she's poor) and he's an asshole born with a silver spoon in his mouth. He loves to bully everyone and anyone - especially Rae. Unfortunately for him, she's not scared of his shit. She can definitely handle herself but it doesn't hurt that her backup (aka best friends Michael and Allison) is amazing as well.

Well other than the small fact that they were all annoying. Michael with being mad at Rae for getting it on like donkey kong with Clint. Clint's stupid friends who will never succeed in the real world. Pretty sure there were some other people in this that I didn't like.. but then this review will never be over.

Since I didn't like anyone in this, let's talk about the ending. Ugh, I hated it. I hate cliffhangers overall.. but ones that have the possibility of leading to death - ugh! If I ever dive into the next book it will only be because I want to see if there will be justice to this beating. Or to teen drinking/driving. I have so many questions.. but no desire to jump into anything.

UGH!

This is a high school bully romance with plenty of banter. Clinton seems very irredeemable at first, but around halfway through the book, he does a complete about-face and falls madly in love with our heroine, Rae. Despite his sudden change in priorities, he still has a lot of growing up to do.
The romance felt a little choppy at times, and I wasn’t particularly invested in the romance. I did like Rae a lot as a heroine, because she’s tough as nails and isn’t a pushover. I wasn’t a big fan of Clint or any of the side characters in the book.
This is the first in a trilogy, and does end with a cliffhanger.

DNF.
Asshole alert! I disliked him so much that I couldn't be bothered to keep going to see if he redeemed himself! Being inside his head was a sleazy place to be.

Super good book. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Completely got sucked in very quickly aswell. Play with me" is a reall page turner, I read it in a day approx 12 hours ( thats unusal for me ) and now desperately wanting book #2. Especially after that ending!

Very graphic heart pounding, action.

Fell in love with the two main character's very quickly. Both were extremely well written. I rooted for them both. Even tho our lead main character is a total manwhore dickweed!
He definitely turns out to be loveable.

The book as a whole was crafted very well. A full bodied story. Everything just flows fantastically. I liked the bully side of the story. It wasn't too much.

Overall i really enjoyed it. Very highly recommend. Seriously need book 2.

5 stars from me.

At the start it reminded me of some Jamie Mcguire books, where the MC are troubled. Even though we can connect with the MC's, Rae's friends are somehow shallow, and we don't get to know enough about Michael, or understand his relationship with Allison. Hopefully the second book let's us know more about the secondary characters.

I love bully romances especially with rich heroes/poor heroines, but NONE of the characters in this book are likable.
A DNF for me.
The discussion about painting toe nails on dirty feet...ugh. Why was that even added??
It all feels fake/scripted. The story feels outlined. Forced.
You may love it. Reading is subjective. This is my opinion. It did not work for me.

I enjoyed this book but found it lacking. I don’t know what it was about it that made me feel that way but I just didn’t have the connection with the characters. I was a little thrown off by the attraction between the two characters. I felt there wasn’t enough lead up to it for me. They just kind of got thrown together. The ending was a bit dramatic to me as well.

I normally enjoy a good enemies to lovers trope, but this just didn't do it for me as much as I was hoping. I thought the switch from enemies to lovers occurred too quickly for me to enjoy it.

I don't usually read high school kids type romance on the regular, but the cover and blurb was calling to me loudly. I unplugged myself from everything and really, really enjoyed reading this book. Rae has been bullied for awhile by none other than Clinton and his so called friends. She lives a life she has no control over, and she can't wait to leave and be the opposite of her mom.

It was actually great to see how Clinton was changing the way he felt inside and him coming to terms with his feelings for Rae. To see this bad boy type persona just melt away for this one girl who he thought meant nothing but a blip or someone to walk all over, mean so much in his life. This is a cliffhanger, and I'm dyin to know what happens now!

This was an amazing story! Had everything!! Terrific character development from the main characters to the supporting characters. Clint is a serious bully jerk, but with everything he’s got going on in his life (possible triggers in this book), you can’t help but love him. I was moved to tears at one point. Rae is a wonderful strong badass. This is a dynamic couple in an equally explosive story. Can’t wait for book 2!

DNF @15% I really did want to enjoy this book, it has a beautiful cover and I've had it on my TBR list for a while.

It seriously disappointed me! The H was a disgusting Dbag and I couldn't get past that he was always winking while wearing sunglasses. So either he was an idiot or the writer didn't catch the contradiction 🤷🏼‍♀️

As for Rae she was okay, but holy hades her friends were annoying!!!

I’m all for the angsty bad boy with a back story, but only if it’s done tastefully, this one is not! The characters were immature, and yes I get they’re in high school, but my god it made the story horrible. The only saving grace was the sex scenes weren’t so bad 🤷🏼‍♀️

Clinton who was the high bad boy and Rea who was the outcast. Clinton was always going after Rae because she wasn’t good enough to be in with the rich kids. He found out they both had a rough home life, and started to see her in a different light. He finally got feelings for her and things took off from there.

ok so I'm miffed. Spoilers ahead. Fair warning.
I'm miffed and super annoyed cause I liked the protagonist in the beginning. she was cool and interesting and strong. And then, she just wasn't anymore.
And I fucking hated the male lead in the beginning. But that's the point right?
Except he was...just disgusting. He wasn't even likable. Not even a little bit. He was just a real disgusting bully. But I kept telling myself that some redeeming qualities will show up. Something will slowly change him...some character growth will happen right? Well, no. Not really.
And I could not believe that she wanted him. After everything he said and did. I just don't see it. It was so...out of the blue? Like I wish we had seen a more slow-burn thing, than a hate-to-insta love type of thing. It just didn't make sense.
And after that the whole book was just a bunch of cliches and a shit ton of over dramatic incidents, that quite frankly didn't make sense.
I'm sure I'm not making sense, but I don't care. Because I'm very annoyed. This had potential to be a good hate to love story and yet it was so unabashedly instalove and the heroine was so fucking annoying afterwards that I cannot cope.

This was a complete no go for me. The beginning held some promise and then it kind of blew up.

Leila out.

A Great Start!

Although I was initially unsure if this would be a book I’d get into, I can say that by the end, I was hooked! The bullying was juvenile at best in my opinion, but things really changed once Rae and Clint found themselves talking in the parking one night.

Clint acted so childish and as if the world fell before his feet, but eventually you do realize there’s more to him than meets the eye. He may be the bad boy, but he’s got a good heart. And Rae? That girl has a backbone and doesn’t cower for anyone. Her strength helps keep her going, even when others would have thrown in the towel.

It ends on a pretty good cliffhanger and I can’t wait to read Promise Me! This is a great debut for both the series and Rebel Hart and I look forward to reading more of her work!

OK, so I've been waiting for the completion of this series. I've jumped on the bully bandwagon and can't seem to get enough of them. I think I hyped myself up too much for this book cause it was disappointing. I read the description "CRUEL INTENTIONS meets AFTER". After is my favorite book and Cruel Intentions is one of my favorite movies. This book is nothing like either of them. Now that description is for books 2 and 3 but it's very doubtful that this series is gonna change that much.

Now this book.. The dialogue was just off for me. It was so cheesy. So cheesy! I'm still trying to figure out what the plot was. I'm being generous with the 3 stars cause I did ALOT of scrolling at the end. I'm debating whether to read book two to see if it gets any better.

Stumbled upon this book and loved every minute of it. I really enjoyed how they weren’t exactly complete opposites that they shared traits even though they were from different sides of the tracks. As well as the readers got to see the growth from Clint towards the end of the book instead in the beginning of the second book!

Had to stop reading it. I love bully romances, but Clinton was just way too much of a jerk and asshole. It was to the point where he wasn’t even realistic. And for the love of all that’s Holy, get off your high horse, Clint! I’m sure the teachers don’t want to be you and I’m pretty confident that not everyone wants to f*** you either.

Really good read

Usually I hate bully books. The herione is pathetic and dont get me started on the hero. But I actually really enjoy this book. Love both the main characters. It was sweet and endearing. The herione was tough and resilient. Great read. Cant wait for the next one.

STORY

This one was ok. It’s one where it’s not bad, and it did not wow me 100%. The story started out interesting as it caught my interest. I felt that even though Clint and Rae had some scenes together, chapters 1-15 was really focused on them individually. Neither had the best up bringing, so it was nice seeing them connect with that. It took a while for their story together to affect me. Once they started connecting, I wasn’t really blown away as much. Their chemistry was up and down for me in regard to getting me excited. The book ended on a cliffhanger that I knew of, but I didn’t know it was 4 parts. I was curious about book 2 but feel I can not invest in all 4 books in the series with the same couple.

SEXUAL CHEMISTRY:
I wasn’t a fan of their sex scenes. I felt it could have been more. I remember thinking their first time, I thought, that’s it?

SECONDARY CHARACTERS
Clint’s friend Roy, that boy, gives TMI on his sex life. Rae’s friends Allison like her, but Micheal, towards the end when she needed him did not pass the vibe check, smh. I still like him, though.

OVERALL
Again, likable, but don’t believe I would continue the series.

✰✰TRIGGERS: child abuse, assault, drug addiction.

****I don’t equate these stories to real life. It’s about personal taste and what you would or want to tolerate with the books you read. I know we all have different opinions and preferences with what we read. I based my book reviews on my preferences and what I like, and while these preferences may not be the same for others, I hope this review was still helpful.

Play With Me is a bully to romance novel. It begins with Raelynn living on the “poor” side of town. She goes to school with the wealthy where Clint and his friends pick on Raelynn. Clint is known for being a bully and constantly fighting. He picks on everyone, but has been picking on Rae for years. It isn’t until one night when Clint leaves his house one night after a dispute with his father that he finds Rae sitting in one of his coveted spots and finds a connection with Raelynn he never thought he would have.

Rebel Hart has a way with words. Her writing is superb in this novel. It was well written and thought out. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and can’t wait to read the second book to find out what happens with Clint and Raelynn and what their future may hold together. My only dislike about this book is that Raelynn never contemplated having a relationship with Clint. It was instantaneous even after the mean things he said to her. I wish there was a build up to show that Clint really cared about her and started to be a little bit nice to her, at least in private, prior to them falling into a relationship together. The character building was good and I feel I was able to understand a little bit better about each character in the story. Raelynn is supposed to be poor and the neighborhood she lives in is definitely less than appealing but Clint mentioned Rae lives in a two story house (her room is on an upper level). I wish that in this book the house and world building was done up a little more. I like to submerge myself in their world, and I found myself not really knowing what the world really looked like in parts of the book. Overall, I’d give this a 4 out of 5 stars.

where was the sexual tension??? Where was the angst? where is the bullying?
i have read worse but i have also read much better. i just skimmed over the last 20% of the book.
The characters felt under developed and i had no feel about the kind of person they were.
i can say that i FUCKING HATE Micheal with my whole heart. he is unsupportive and doesn't care about Rae at all. He just liked Allison who was a random background character with no personality. Like shit was going down and Michael literally did not care that Rae was in danger at all, he hated Clint so why bother helping his "best friend". I hope Micheal dies <3
