Stone Lake #4

Before We Fall

Rate this book
If it wasn’t for bad luck, I wouldn’t have any luck at all.
That saying is as old as the hills in Tennessee, where I used to live.

And it’s definitely true.

I’m a bad luck magnet, at least when it comes to men.
Moving to Stone Lake was supposed to be a fresh start.
Here, I was going to build a life I could be proud of. Finally put down roots and live quietly.
Be safe and happy.

It didn’t quite work out that way, but I’m stubborn and I’m not about to give up.
Ben Kingston was the first man to handle me with care.
He gave me a glimpse of something I desperately wanted.
And then, tore it away from me with the carelessness of one whispered word.

I don’t need a man to complete me.
In fact, I’ve had enough of them.
I’m okay with being single the rest of my life.
I’ll be just fine with my handy friend B.O.B.

Except Ben keeps coming around, tempting me and a girl can only take so much.
Ben’s out to prove I can trust him. I don’t trust any man, not anymore.

But my resolve weakens when he touches me, slides his hand down and proves buying stock in batteries might not be a good life plan.

Welcome back to the world of Stone Lake.
Junie and Ben have a bumpy start for sure, but when trouble comes knocking on Junie’s door, will she let Sheriff Kingston prove he won’t let her down again?

I'm just a simple small town country girl, haunted by Alpha Men who talk in my head 24 hours a day.

I knew I wanted to write when it became clear I couldn't be happy with just viewing other people's stories. I always wanted to rewrite them.

Like why did Jack have to die? Why couldn't Rose move her butt over? Because that was a huge piece of wood she was on, people.

Happy Endings should be fought for, but they should always happen. Mine might take some curves and twists, but they eventually get there.

Having published over fifty stories, it always feels surreal that this is my life. Hitting USA Today had me crying for days, but nothing is more special than hearing from readers that they loved one of my books.

Just read the prequel that the author put up on amazon for free.

Hero was dating the heroine from book 1. This girl turned out to be the heroine’s brother ex girl. She dumped his ass for this heroine’s brother. Then one night in the prequel they touched each other sexually and gave each other orgasms and he falls asleep and calls the heroine by that girl’s name. He said that he might’ve loved her but he wasn’t sure. The fact that he doesn’t chase or tries to explain to the heroine his mistake speaks volumes that heroine is his second best. The teaser prologue for this book shows that a year has gone by and it doesn’t look like he went after her.
So definitely be passing this book. I don’t want to read about a coward hero who lets his heroine think he’s in love with the ex, calls her by another woman’s name after they gave each other orgasms and lets her leave without explaining himself.

I must be on one lucky streak lately or I just know which authors who never fail to deliver in their writing. Jordan has long been a go to for me and this story was worth every feel she delivered.

Junie may have thought she was running from her past but what she didn't realise is that she was heading in the right direction for a new start. And to find the one man that will make sure she matters. But one lapse in time brings back all her old fears and throws her back to the past she has tried so hard to run from.

Ben knew he fucked up, and he knows he hurt Junie but it's been a year already. Can woman really hold a grudge that long? YES! And I totally get where she was coming from. But I also feel for him.

But it's time now, to man up and go get what belongs to him. Her. Junie really isn't prepared for a full frontal assault from the town sheriff but thats just what she's going to get. Ben is not holding back.

She'll make him work for it though, this in no meek woman. She's scared but she also knows that not giving him this chance she may lose the best thing that ever happened to her. Him.

An absolute MUST READ! I loved the way our leads argued. No holding back, no filter.

The story flowed, the continuity was flawless. It had the perfect amount of suspense and drama (no cheating).

The heat factor and the dirty talking Ben delivers made me BLUSH. This man's talented and I swear he got an A+ for that alone. And he had the goods to deliver on every thing that fell from his mouth.

A definate HELL YES from me.

*sigh* I wanted to like this one. There was a few plot threads that looked promising. But the writing did not do it for me. The flow felt scratchy and choppy in places. And the romance between Junie and Ben was so shallow at times that I wanted to go scream into the hills (they swear they 'love' each other but just let go at the tiniest of cold shoulders... more than once). I am saddened that this story feels like so many lost opportunities.

I got into this book (and its novella prequel) because of the "he says the name of OW while in bed with h" trope, but I hated the way it was carried out, what with Ben regretting in his monologue but acting like a patronising douche when speaking with Junie and minimising what happened, and laying the bulk of the blame on her and "her issues". Anyways that trope only featured for one third of the book and then it was forgotten in favour of their shallow pull and push, and a small town thriller sub-plot... At various points, both leads pissed me off with their attitudes (bratty and stubborn for her, caveman and patronising for him). I know they were meant to exude small town charm - and they did many times - but their irritatingly bad sides left an indelible meh aftertaste for me.

In a way, the thriller plot read better and was more interesting. For instance, the one moment I actually enjoyed in the book, was when ! I actually cheered! And that's pretty bad because this is supposed to be a romance first and foremost. It is the only reason I am rounding the GR rating up.

P.S. I was never a fan of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles but Shredder isn't a Rat, right? I can't believe such a wrong fact could get into this book, moreso, as a rather central plot element!! If I am wrong (because my teenage years are far behind by now), anyone who can correct me will be welcome!

Finding your safe place takes time and patience...
Two broken souls... both carrying baggage from a past they wish to put behind them. Ben felt betrayed by a woman he thought loved him and Junie was trying to get over an abusive relationship with a man who scarred her both physically and emotionally. Can these two feisty love-birds put their old demons aside and move on to a more promising future together? It's gonna be a bumpy and curvy ride... an intense story which will have your mind boggled and your blood pumping! 5 Emotionally Induced Stars for "Before We Fall"... where working through your demons is worth the time.

Wow ! What a great story as we totally loved the characters and could not help but fall in love with all of them. This current story was a gripping emotional tale that had us engrossed into the pages to the very end.

Junie was a character that was smart and beautiful and independent but, she was an emotional wreck who was filled with a lot of demons that she was working on getting rid of but, it made things difficult in her relationship with Ben where it was almost felt like a push and pull thing but, thank god Ben for the most part was a patient and understanding man which was a really hard thing to do as he was always in total alpha mode .

Ben -We loved the sexy as sin sheriff who was a total alpha and sex on a stick but, one of his most enduring qualities was that he was that he could turn the alpha off when Junie was in crisis mode and give her what she needed or at least tried to.He was sweet, kind and loving and protective.

Overall this story was filled with a lot of ups and downs a ton of emotion but, it was also filled with so much love and understanding and a whole lot of explosive chemistry that made for a lot of hot a sexy sex scenes that had a girl fanning herself. The story also gave us a few laughs a time or two because it was hard not to love Junie as she funny and bright and beautiful on the inside and out and everyone loved her including us.

We just loved it and the more books we read my this author the more we fall in love with her works. This one definitely goes into the keeper pile.

I think Ben has moved into my top book boyfriend husband spot. I love how gritty and alpha he is. And June's sass complements him just perfectly. When these two come together there's just chemistry that leaps off the pages. I can't recommend Jordan and her books enough. You can't go wrong picking up any of her books, but if you have been hesitant to pick this series up then you are really missing out on her greatest writing. Not that I don't love all her books, I do but I just really feel a connection to this one.

Holy Hades...Sheriff Ben Kingston is one 🔥🔥🔥 AF man!  Jaysus, I found myself closing my eyes and imagining him in his uniform doing all sorts of naughty things to me including the use of his handcuffs.

And yet, he had a gentle side to him as well.  The way he cared for Junie was what romance novels are made for.

Ben and Junie began their very complicated relationship from the ruins of a murder.  He felt a need to protect and Junie found something in him that allowed her to let her walls down.  Unfortunately, being a man lol, Ben royally screwed their encounter up beyond repair.  Junie was simply trying to survive and live day by day.  She was good on her own.  Time healed all types of wounds, physical and mental.

This couple had a love/hate relationship that seemed to erupt and yet dissolve. Space and guilt, pain and pleasure, belonging and longing seemed to be their recipe.

This is the third book from Stone Lake series and it’s a phenomenal story.

"I want to push my way back into her life. Wrap my hands into that beautiful silvery-blonde hair of hers and claim those lips that haunt my dreams. I want to do a lot more than that to her. And that's a problem."

Ben and Junie are like Moths to a flame for each other, but equally oil and water, they give as good as the other gets and the banter was incredibly entertaining. At times I wanted to wring their necks, but it's no fun if it comes easy, and it definitely didn't!! Haunted by the past, the whole world kept coming between them and I never knew what was going to happen next, only that I couldn't stop reading to find out!! Super steamy, and a blast to read!! The little bread crumbs scattered about possible upcoming stories has me so incredibly excited!! I thank the Author for providing a copy to review!!

I don't think I can express how much I loved this book. It had me so wrapped up in it I had to take extra long lunch at work just so I could finish it.

I'm not sure who I loved more; Ben or ! I loved his determination to win her back. I loved her inner strength even when she wasn't aware of it. They chemistry was off the charts and it made me blush like a little girl at times.I even loved the way they were always butting heads.

This book just proved to me I need to start read more of Jordan Marie because she's frickin awesome!!!

Before We Fall by Jordan Marie is book Three in the Stone Lake Series. This is the story of Ben and Junie. I haven't yet read the previous books, so for me this was made into a standalone book.
Junie and Ben attraction set them on fire but then Ben made a mistake that pulled them apart. Junie is done being hurt by men and have sworn them off. But then about a year after their upset, Junie finds herself back on the radar with Ben. Ben knew he messed up and he feels there has been enough time that have past between the two of them...he wants Junie back.
Hot second chance at love.

Did you ever start a book and didn’t want it to end. This was definitely one of those books for me. Ben and Junie story is full of strength and love. I love how Ben gave her space but went all for it when the time was right. I also loved how Junie fought back and got her HEA. I just love their love story.

Junie moved to Stone Lake to get a fresh start, she thought she had moved on and found the One..but she couldn't have made a bigger mistake. Ben Kingston wants a chance to explain to Junie what happened, but the women he wants more time with doesn't want him anywhere near her. Ben decides he is going to give Junie time but when time runs out Ben decides he is going to make sure she is aware he is not given up.

Junie's past still haunts her, she knows it is one of the reasons why she keeps putting Ben away. Ben is insistent on making sure she can trust him but what happens when her past comes creeping back? Will Ben be the rock she needs?

This was really good, a bit angsty but overall intriguing story. I liked Ben a lot he was an intense alpha male who wants to do everything he can to protect Junie. Great story, need to go back and read the rest.

Sweet Jesus.
Hot. Oh... so hot!!

Okay, so truth... Jordan is a new author to me. But I have heard some pretty awesome recommendations for her books, which I am kicking myself that I hadn’t taken it seriously and picked up one of her books before now. Before We Fall is book 3 in Stone Lake series and it’s a stand-alone and can be read all by itself, and that’s what I did, but now I need to read the other two books!

But what a book to start her collection on.

Junie and Ben’s story was different, unique and I loved it!

Junie’s not had the best of luck when it comes to men. She’s a broken woman, but she tries to run from that not wanting to repeat her past, not wanting history to repeat itself but having had enough and tried of running she wants her old self back, she wants to be her old self again. The girl she was before. She’s got enough strength that she lets the world see the girl she truly is. She’s witty, fun, sarcastic, yet down to earth and quirky!

Sheriff Ben was alpha, he was a delicious hot cop and was the one who broken Junie’s heart so long ago... and in the process, he broke his own. Now a year later he wants his woman back, he wants to re-write his wrongs. He knows he screwed up big time and hurt the woman he loves, and now is the time to get back what’s his, and that’s Junie, and he will stop at nothing to do just that... he goes about it the only way he knows how... he puts himself on the line and doesn’t hold back and even though I understand completely why Junie is the way she is, I found myself completely smitten with this hot cop, when I probably should be cursing him out, I couldn’t help but feel for this man. We all make mistakes and we learn from them, but will Junie let him redeem himself?

Junie is beyond scared to be jury again, and rightfully so, but is this fear clouding her judgement and stopping her from seeing what’s in front of her, and the fact that she could just very well lose the man who’s probably the best thing to of happened to her. Will she give him another chance? Or will she let her fear with this?

These two together are truly everything, you can tell that they have history and you can tell that there is still something there. But will they let that something in? The chemistry between these two was off the charts. The sexual tension only getting thicker as I go deeper into the plot. And yep, that angsty push and pull feeling had me almost pulling my hair out.

The secondary characters were just as awesome as the main, weaved into this unique story perfect. Ben and Junie bounded of each other as well as the secondary characters did and though this was all the angst, it still helps a fair bit of humour. I found myself laughing more time’s than I can count.

This book!! This fucking book was outstanding. I was addicted and couldn’t put it down. Junie and Ben’s story was certainly different and I couldn’t put the book downed I needed to know every single detail, and what would happen between these two! I just loved it. I can’t fault it even in then slightest way.

I will most definitely be reading the rest of her books because if this is anything to go by then, they'll be phenomenal!

Juniper “Junie” Sellers is ready for a fresh start. She’s got issues that had me curious as to what I’ve missed. And by the time I was finished here, I found I need to go back and find out what that was. Ben Kingston got a dressing down but that doesn’t stop him from going after what he wants. He seems to be very committed to the task at hand.

The author got me hooked on their banter. It had me chuckling with what seems like a game of one upmanship. They don’t seem to be able to help themselves. Ben seems to be that little boy who likes to pull the little girl’s pigtails in order to garner her attention. Then as I’m happily going along, wondering what Ben was going to do next, the author sticks in something that stopped me in my tracks. So I have no choice but to see what she’s got in store for Junie. Plus I want to know how Ben’s going to handle it.

I loved how the author ended this story. The only thing I’ll tell you is that she creates two epilogues. Each epilogue is from our main character’s perspective. At the end of Junie’s epilogue she said something interesting and it may tug at your heart like it did mine. Ben’s ending will also tug at the heart. In one word, they both end in love.

I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

Return to Stone Lake for Ben & Junies story

Stone Lake might be a small town with all the feels, Friday night football & everyone knows your name kinda town. But it also has murder, mystery, kidnappings, psycho families and ex's! Great story, characters and heat! Ben and Junie deserve their hea, their love of a lifetime because both have been hurt a d struggled with finding the forever one! Junie definitely needs only a happy, fantastic, AMAZING life after being physically and verbally abused by the people who should have loved and protected her. Because of that she was a perfect target for the "Rat-Boy" to manipulate, abuse and torture! Thank Goodness there are real alpha men/hero's (at least in the book world) who will love, protect, cherish and stop at nothing to give their women a happily after after!
Bravo Jordan Marie another amazing book!
I'd advise reading in order, continued character interactions and back histories of characters needed to fully enjoy these reads! 4.5 stars

Oh, Junie!!!! You are my hero!!! To fight back, fight for your happiness as hard as Junie did, takes so much strength. She may be one of my absolute favorite of all Jordan Marie's characters! And Ben, OMG!!! Hang on to your panties, ladies!!! Although, I will admit I wanted to reach in and smack him upside the head with Junie's bat a time or two. But he finally pulled his head out, and Junie finally decides to take one more chance. And then stuff really hits the fan.

This book is better than a roller coaster at Magic Mountain. Just when I thought things were going to start getting "interesting" then the author threw in a major twist. And then a couple of loops. And BOOM!!! A whole set of switchbacks!

I absolutely loved this book. And it is a stand-alone, but there is a free prequel available. It's not a must but since it's free...

This is the 3rd book in this phenomenal series, and there is a prequel which the author has put on Amazon for free: - “Where We Began”, which will give a background to these characters. Sherriff Ben knows he messed up, and is trying to make amends with Junie, but she is having none of it, and is certainly making him work for her forgiveness. Both of these characters are broken and carry baggage from the past, and the witty banter between them is hilarious. This is a beautifully written flawless story, which is filled with drama, suspense, emotion, and love. I was totally captivated throughout this addictive page turner, and I highly recommend for all readers. Brilliant story and hat’s off to this gifted author for penning such a riveting story!!

I loved Jordan Marie's books and I have to say this was one book that I didn't want to end. It had everything you want in a romance story. Suspense, sassy, chemistry and so much more.

Junie was a broken, but she didn't let that get her down. She was just going to be herself, she was the queen of sarcasm and sassy and she didn't worry what people thought of her. She was doing her.
Ben Kingston was recovering from a broken heart, but Junie just got to him. The witty banter between them had me laughing to myself and boy was the dirty talk a real turn on. No denying that Sheiff Ben Kingston was hot, alpha dirty talking male.

I cant say anything else but that I really enjoyed this story.

I love Ben and Junie!! Ben, the hot AF Sheriff, has the patience of a Saint until pushed whilst Junie likes to push the Sheriff’s buttons. He makes one tiny mistake when he is in bed with Junie and they part on bad terms. But Ben is determined to win her back because even though they had not dated long he feels that she is The One now all he has to do is win her back. Junie is not making it easy on him but once unexplainable things start happening around her and her bar she has to turn to Ben for protection and answers. Will this be the opening Ben is looking for? Will he be able to protect Junie? I can’t wait for the next installment of this series!!

I have to say, hearing that Ben and Junie next in the series, I wasn't sure about it. I guess, I wasn't hyped that much, even tough I was curious about Ben. But it was pretty good story, that hold my attention, with everything going on.
At the beginning, I wasn't sure about Ben. He was great person, but the H part made me to wonder. I was team Junie. I liked her character. Always love sassy h. Then somewhere in the middle of the book, I switched teams. Ben was just... All I can came up with is dream guy.

Hot Alpha Alert! Sheriff Ben Kingston is 100% alpha! Junie is a strong woman that is broken emotionally and mentally. She moved to Stone Lake to be near her brother, and to get a fresh start, away from her past. Ben and Junie are so hot together. Even though they both have made mistakes in the relationship, deep down they haven't given up on one another. Can Ben convince Junie that they belong together? Is she finally free of her past yet? I loved all the twists and turns, and of course the hot chemistry Ben and Junie shared!

Ahhh. This story was so much ahhhh. Ben and Junie are background characters that we get snippets of in the first two books, but this is their story. They go through many challenges that we can all relate to in some way. I adore this author’s books regardless of the genre. This book is pure romance and the ending made me smile and nope, not one happy tear leaked out. I love this series so far, so get to reading already.

Junie and Ben were together a year ago. Ben wasn’t ready to be what Junie needed at the time so he left her. Junie put herself together after Ben broke her heart. Now a year later, Ben is back to try to get another chance with Junie. Will things work out between them this time or will Junie be left with her heart broken again? A great second chance read.

Perfect End to the Stone Lake Series

I’m going to miss these characters. Ben and Junie are so well matched that it’s hard to believe Ben was once with Luna a book and a half ago.My heart goes out to Junie and the journey she went through to get to her happily ever after. She was such an endearing character I could find myself finding fault in her despite her imperfections.

Most of all, I found myself majorly invested in Ben’s redemption from his major F-up in book 2.5. I was curious with the when and how of it all and was highly satisfied with how it played out. Junie’s forgiveness was definitely earned and I was especially happy that it didn’t happen overnight like most other romance novels seem to do. The fact that it took as long as it did was so gratifyingly realistic that I would have to applaud Ms. Jordan Marie for setting precedence on writing a story that didn’t make me want to throw my kindle from frustration every five minutes.

Amazing Book

So far in this series, I've read this book and the one before it and I can definitely day there's alot going on in these two books. So much action, romance and the hot & heavy going on. I love Jordan Marie's books. She's an amazing person (yes, I've met her) and she's an amazing writer. I read alot of her books and I've loved every one. All I can say is, you gotta read this series and when you get the chance, read some books from her other series. They're amazing
