Prior to writing romance, award-winning, USA Today Bestseller Melinda Curtis was a junior manager for a Fortune 500 company, which meant when she flew on the private jet she was relegated to the jump seat—otherwise known as the potty. After grabbing her pen (and a parachute) she made the jump to full-time writer. Between writing sweet romance and sweet romantic comedy, Melinda finds time to bond with her husband over home remodeling projects. She recently came to grips with the fact that she’s an empty nester and a grandma, concepts easier to grasp than jet-setting on a potty.

Lola and Drew are loveable characters and I was rooting for them the whole time. Soon Lola finds herself with lots of friends and much support in Sunshine Valley but she never lets her guard down. CAN’T HURRY LOVE finds Lola recounting the event that changed her life and she kind of goes a little crazy. Hang on folks, the twists and turns will have you reading late into the night.
I was emotionally invested in Lola and I just wanted her to be happy and to smile again. She was so devastated when her life was turned upside down once again and I cried when she cried and I love when an author does that to me. I felt like I was right there with her and I was holding my breath at the end of CAN’T HURRY LOVE praying nothing bad was going to happen. Please, you have to give Melinda Curtis a try! You won’t be sorry. I can’t wait to read more by my new favorite author.
I can’t wait to return to Sunshine Valley to check in with my new bunch of friends. Melinda Curtis pulled me right in and hooked me from the very first page. She is now an auto buy author for me. Her characters feel very real. They aren’t perfect and while they all have flaws they are also very lovable. I now know I will devour everything this awesome author writes and do it all easily with a smile on my face and tears in my eyes. I can not wait to continue this series!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Forever Publishing through Netgalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Can’t Hurry Love is the first in a new series set in Sunshine Valley, CO and I’m in love with the outrageous, quirky residents of this sweet little town. Some of the residents take the word meddling to a whole new level and there were lots of funny moments. The romance was more sweet and flirtatious than steamy and there’s lots of drama throughout the book which I loved! Throw in a hot single dad and I’m sold, I’ll definitely be reading the next book in this cute series
Lola left her big New York City life to move to Sunshine Colorado for Randy, the love of her life. Shortly after being married Randy dies and Lola discovers Randy wasn't faithful. Drew has enough on his plate with his ex coming back into town wanting visitation with his 6 year daughter, keeping his wild and crazy sisters in line and now he has to add watching Lola to his list.
I unfortunately did care for this one. My first problem was there were way too many characters. I had a hard time keeping up when a minor character was very briefly introduced and then mentioned again 2 or 3 chapters later. I kept getting drawn out of the story trying to remember who that person was or if we'd even been introduced to them previously. Secondly, There were a couple points in the story where I thought for sure Lola needed a psych evaluation. But it was supposed to be seen as funny or a quirky part of the story. I know everyone reacts differently to death, however had she been a friend of mine, I would've gotten some mental help for her. Lastly, Lola and Drew had no chemistry. In fact I thought they had very little interactions at all throughout the entire book. Yet alone enough to fall in love. Which left me feeling very dissatisfied with the ending.
I've really been enjoying this new series by Melinda Curtis. Until the Christmas Wish, I hadn't read her before but I do love a good Christmas story. I was very glad that I did. It won't kill the series if you don't read it first but I would. It gives you a glimpse into how these matchmaking ladies work.
In their sites now is Lola Williams. She lost her husband a couple of years ago and things aren't going well for her. Some of the town isn't openly friendly towards her for no apparent reason at all other than she's not from there. Not only is she missing her husband but she has found out Randy's secret and it's killing her.
Oh boy, poor Lola is a hot mess.
You won't blame her when you read about all Randy did. Drew tries his best to keep Lola out of trouble but it's a full-time job. Drew is a wonderful guy but at times he's not as understanding as you'd hope. A real guy.
He's got his own crap that he needs to deal with and a sweet little daughter that you can't help but loving. I felt for him with his daughter and he is a great guy who stood with her when her mom ran after giving birth to her. If you follow me you know I love me a single dad. Nothing sexier.
Throughout the book, I felt for Lola. The way people treated her without really knowing her was wrong. She's a sweet, caring person do deserves more. I do love how she showed them. I wish I could tell you more but it would ruin the main plot of the story. I will tell you that I laughed a lot with this story and couldn't put it down. The romance is a little slow going but we kinda knew that from the title. Since I liked them both I didn't mind reading about their dance towards love.
I can't wait for the next book in the series which isn't out till the end of September witch sucks but it is a holiday story so you know I'm all in. So, have any of you read her before and if so what did you guys think?
Can't Hurry Love by Melinda Curtis is a fun small-town romance story. The two main characters, widow Lola Winters and Sheriff Drew Taylor are working on locating the items Lola finds missing after finding out her deceased husband had affairs before he died. The quirky Widow's Club is trying to match Lola and Drew up but not with each other. It's alwys fun when the Widow's Club gets involved. I really enjoyed this story.
This was the first time I've read a book by Melinda Curtis and it will definitely not be the last! This book made me laugh, cry, and read way too late when I should have gone to bed but I just couldn't make myself put it down. I can't wait to see whose story she'll write next for the next book in the Sunshine Valley series
This was a sweet, small town romance. Lola is a young widow who finds out that her husband had been cheating on her. Drew is a single dad and the towns sheriff who is beginning a custody battle with his absent ex wife. Lola sets out to find out who her husband was cheating with and finds trouble along the way.... of course that means running into Drew. I loved the idea of this book and I thought Drew and Lola were both fun characters, but it honestly felt a little disjointed. The widows club was super cute, but there were so very many side characters that I found myself confused and it stopped the flow of the story. There were some super funny references to her deceased husband sexcapades and toys, but nearly no steam or swoon at all between the main characters. I guess I just missed the connection between them. Cute story, cute town with fun characters, but just personally not my fave.
This series would be great for anyone who is a fan of Hallmark movies. It has a great cast of characters (although there are A LOT of them to keep track of) and a little added mystery. There is one main story, focusing on Lola and Drew, but many other smaller ones within this book. I was primarily interested in the main characters and skimmed over the others. I think my mother in law who likes feel good stories with light romance would love this book.
I adore this small town of Sunshine, Colorado! The author has made me want to live there! She has created a town of fun, sometime quirky characters but yet they certainly care about each other. As with many small towns, sometimes they care too much and are in each other's business a little more than is comfortable! Although there is two main characters, lovely Lola and Sheriff Drew, there is also ongoing focus on a couple other stories so all these characters are interwoven in the fabric of Sunshine life! Lola is a transplant to Sunshine from New York City when she married her husband, Randy and now she's a widow but in cleaning out his belongings, she found he had a secret life and she's overcome with the need to find out all she can about this life....to the point that it disrupts the town! Sheriff Drew tries to get her to stop because he feels that it isn't healthy but that poor man has SO many people who depends on him to do things, it's a wonder he's even sane! I can't believe how much that man is burdened! Yikes! However, he's drawn to Lola and yet he can't be because he needs a nice, quiet girl because he's fighting for custody of this daughter! There is SO much funny stuff and yet a lot of tender happenings in the book too. A winner in my book! Can't wait to read more in the series!
Can't Hurry Love is a cute and unpredictable romance between a city girl and a small-town guy. Melinda Curtis adds the wit, humor, and the dazzling Widows Club.
Lola Williams is young and a widow. She gave up her dream career when she met her husband Randy. Now that he is gone she begins to find out that he led a life full of secrets. She doesn't want to fall in love ever again, but the ladies of the Widows Club have their own say in the matter.
Sheriff Drew Taylor lives in the town of Sunshine, Colorado. He lives a pretty simple lifestyle that is normally predictable. When he meets Lola she is wild and different from any woman he has met. She brings a ray of sunshine to his world. But he too isn't looking for love
The Widows Club continues to play matchmakers and keep getting them together and they are great together. They are so awkward and cute and just make you want to blush. I liked this couple and the Widows Club really shined throughout the story.
I give Can't Hurry Love 4 stars. It's such a quirky romance that will give off first love vibes. I think Melinda Curtis did a great job with the start of the Sunshine Valley series and I am looking forward to reading more in the series.
Lola, a year after her husband has passed away, finds out that he had been cheating on her for the period of their marriage. She begins to act out, and try to find the person who was sleeping with her husband. She attracts the attention of Sheriff Drew when she decided to light all of her husband's underwear on fire in her driveway. From there, Drew keeps a very close eye on Lola, and begins to notice other things about her, not just the crazy things. Drew is a single dad, raising his daughter with the help of his family when he is working. His ex is showing signs that she wants to be back in the picture with their daughter, but Drew can't trust her. His lawyer says he should get married. All of these things lead to a lovely small town romance, with some drama and mystery thrown in. I enjoyed the journey that was Can't Hurry Love, and I think that things were well handled on both of the major storylines. It is definitely worth checking out. These characters are flawed and realistic for their particular situations. I'm excited to see the future stories that will come from this small town.
Thanks to Forever for the gifted copy! All opinions are my own. Friends, I read a fair bit of romance on the regular but I really wasn't joking about it being one of the only genres holding my attention right now, and I was so grateful to have Can't Hurry Love to reach for. This was a really sweet romance, set in a small town with an adorable group of meddlesome widows who seem to run the whole show. Young widow Lola is discovering that her late husband wasn't everything she thought, and local sherrif Drew is on the hunt for a new wife as he's hoping that will keep his ex from getting custody of their young daughter (and Lola can't possibly be the one as she's too tempestuous... but it's hard to fight the attraction). There was such good character development in this one, and I felt that we really get to know Lola and Drew as individuals. For me personally, I felt that there wasn't as much time to get to see them as a couple and I would have liked that! But I loved the setting and characters so much (and would definitely read more by this author!).
This grabbed me at the beginning and hung on all the way through. Loved the characters. They are so much fun. Especially the Widow Club ladies. Becky is so much fun with her quirky sense of fashion. Drew is trying to keep everyone in town going and then he hears from his ex. Now she wants to come home and now she wants to be a mom. His little girl never knew her mom. As if he doesn't have enough drama with his mom and sisters, then Lola starts burning underwear in her front yard and she has blow up dolls in her front window. All Lola wants to do if find out who her dead husband's mistress was. She is willing to do just about anything to find out. Will she be happy when she has the answer? Maybe, maybe not.
This book was a typical no brainer read that was a bit predictable, a bit fluffy, but overall what the reader needed to cure a book hangover. The characters were ok, the plot was what was expected and the reader never had to try to figure anything out. This was an overall good read that leaves the reader feeling good and happy with the ending.
If you need a quick read that will help and give the reader a happy ever after ending then this is the book for you! The reader can't help but smile while reading this one and they instantly fall in love with the idea of being in love!
Sweetly thrilling, sexy, fun and emotional romantic journey filled with small-town goodness, engaging charters, witty dialog, heart racing twists and undeniable passion. Really enjoyed this exciting and heartwarming journey!
This story was full of fun, lighthearted banter between a fish out of water and a hometown hero. I loved Lola's perseverance in finding out the unknown actions of her late husband. She never gave up. Drew was a wonderful father and sheriff and I'm happy with the way things ended up with his daughter and her mama. This was a very good start to a new series!!!
Lola has gone a little over the top, but after learning what he has about her late husband, who can blame her? Not Sheriff Drew, even if it does make his life harder. A fun, romantic romp with plenty of laughs, it will leave you smiling.
I knew that this would follow the typical “hallmark” storyline, and I generally enjoy a sappy sweet novel but I just never really cared about any of these characters. They weren’t developed enough to be relatable and seemed bizarrely intertwined. This was just “meh” for me.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story! I think it's a cross between Women's Fiction and Romance. This book contains a lot of quirky characters, including a Widows' Club that helps matchmake, a widow who just learned some surprising (and not in a good way) secrets about her husband, and single dad, who also happens to be the local sheriff. There' s a lot of humor and the characters seems real. A warning that some of the plot might be a little unrealistic. Personally, that's not a deal breaker for me, but be warned if it is for you. This is 5 stars for me because of the humor, the characters, the multiple storylines, the relationships, and the growth of the characters (lots of hope!).
Thanks to NetGalley and Forever Publishing for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I appreciated the opportunity!
This book was exactly what I needed to read right now. This was a fun, but unpredictable romance that brought a smile to my face. It takes place in the small town of Sunshine, CO and the setting was absolutely perfect. Lola and Drew were loveable characters and I was rooting for them the whole time. While this book does touch on serious topics, the author was able to do it in a way that this was still a witty lighthearted novel. If you're looking for a whitty romcom, definitely pick this one up.
I won this book via Goodreads giveaway and very happy about it. It is a very cute small town with secrets romance novel. I loved how characters were well developed, you could see a personality and some changes they are going through a book. This novel would be a perfect choice for a book club.
Thank you @readforeverpub for sending this wonderful story my way. Can’t Hurry Love by Melinda Curtis is an adorable small town romance featuring widows, cute kids and an overweight pig. Lola moved to Sunshine to be with her true love, leaving behind her dream of doing hair and makeup on Broadway to be with him. A year after she is unexpectedly widowed, she finds out he was cheating on her and she wants answers. Sheriff Drew Taylor is a single dad who’s wife suddenly wants back in their daughter’s life after 6 years away and he’s desperate to keep custody.
These two characters are heart warming and adorable and I really enjoyed reading about them trying to find a way to each other. Very PG, nothing more than suggestions of her husband’s affairs and a few kisses, so all in all a very fairy tale type romance.
I read and really enjoyed the Christmas Wish earlier this year. When I saw a new book by Melinda Curtis in the same Sunshine Valley, I was so excited to read. I was not disappointed. Can't Hurry Love is funny and heartwarming and those Widow's club ladies are just so much fun. I really enjoyed watching Lola learn through her grief and discover what matters to her and to her life through finding her late husband's past. I love that her lessons made her brave and strong and dig deep into herself and all of those things led her to Drew.
A quirky, no steam read about small town life, love, forgiveness and finding love again. I loved the quirkiness of the story telling and the characters with my favorite being Becky. There was lots of drama but I found it a little slow moving for me. There is also the bonus of a no steam short story by another author that was a cute read. I received a copy from Netgalley. This is my unbiased review.
