A man who cheated death.
A woman hired to pick up the broken pieces.
And an obsession strong enough to kill for.

They told him he’d been given a second chance at life. Told him to count his lucky stars, to stop and smell the roses. Kind of hard to do when your body is bound by chains and cuffs. That’s what it felt like, anyway, when Phoenix Steele woke up from his coma to a life full of restrictions. Once known around town as the fearless, indomitable heir to the Steele fortune, the former Marine was suddenly labeled unstable, short-tempered, and loose cannon. Unwilling to accept his issues, Phoenix instantly clashes with his assertive therapist—the town’s most eligible bachelorette.

No one knew overcoming the odds like Dr. Rose Floris. Determined not to be a statistic, Rose lived her life under carefully constructed routines—until a gruesome murder and a series of mysterious events reveal she’s become the center of a madman’s obsession. Suddenly, Rose’s world is turned upside down and she finds herself under the watchful eye of her new patient, a broken man she’s been warned not to trust.

As the tables begin to turn on their client-patient relationship, Phoenix realizes he must battle his own demons before he can save anyone, including the woman who’s become his own obsession...

An obsession he’d kill for.

Phoenix is a standalone romantic suspense (no cliff-hanger!).

Wow! Honestly, I didn’t know what to expect but this was completely brilliant, compelling, raw, breathtaking, at times heartbreaking story and such a wonderful read which I can’t express how much I loved. It is without a doubt one of my favorite books I have read this month and so far this year. It was well developed, well written and well thought out. The author knew how to develop, create the storyline and make you fall in love with her words, plot and the characters demanding your attention. What I love about Amanda McKinney’s writing is that she has a talent to keep your attention from start to finish while developing characters and context. I enjoyed every minute of it and never wanted it to end. It has so much depth, powerful, effortless and at times dark storytelling and elements. I loved that it was written in first person, dual POV so I know what both characters – Phoenix and Rose – were thinking at the specific time or moments. The characters are brilliant and so likeable.

Oh my heart Phoenix. My beautiful, tortured hero that has risen from the ashes and conquered his injuries and can finally start to heal. Military life was whole his life. He has a hard time settling back into his roots and figuring out how to cope with the loss of his father. As the oldest brother, he thinks it’s his duty to take care of everything, especially his brothers. He doesn’t like being vulnerable. Being injured makes him grumpy, vulnerable and less than because he thinks that his brothers will not look at him the same way and he will not be back at 100% or feel like old self. He lacks communication skills, but is very observant, charming, protective, loyal, possessive, loving, caring, vulnerable and tortured soul.

I loved our heroine Rose Floris. She had less than perfect childhood. But she survived and thrived; made something of herself. Rose is a therapist. She is strong willed, brave, sassy, feisty, loving, caring, vulnerable and insecure.

Phoenix and Rose stole my heart from the moment they met. They had a complicated, less than perfect start and meeting but after they got to know each other, they started to develop feelings and to see the real persons behind their mask and layers. They lit the pages with their chemistry, sassiness and the way they called each other out. They are each other’s match, sinfully sexy and intense. Neither of them in the beginning is looking for a relationship, but the feelings got involved. Their timing might be a little off with everything that was happening but they clicked and simply understand each other. Their journey together isn’t easy. It is filled with a few obstacles. Phoenix is so protective of Rose and wants to keep her safe. It showed that they are really meant to be. They are both flawed and complex. Their story is heartfelt, emotional and compelling. I loved that Rose loved him through it all, loved all his broken pieces and showed that she is exactly what he needs in order to heal and start their life together. I loved how they blossomed and thrived, got their chance at love and a new beginning. The ending was perfect for them.

INCREDIBLY BEAUTIFUL! It kept my attention at all times and I could not put it down. I completely adored Phoenix. It was addictive, angsty, slow burn, sinfully sexy and intense, suspenseful, dark, emotional, heartbreaking, enthralling and raw with real characters and a lot of heart and heartbreak. With relatable, wonderful and marvelous primary and secondary characters, an effortless writing, awe-inspiring details and a journey of self-doubting, love, secrets, lies, mystery, the author takes us on an emotional and beautiful journey of the characters, their struggles and their self-discovery. It’s filled with so much love, heart and heat, effortless and poignant writing with compelling, gripping storyline. Can’t wait for Jagg’s book. I highly recommend it.

Phoenix is my favorite of the Steele brothers. Recovering from a gun shot to the head, he is pushed into therapy. Rose is a complex woman with a past of her own. The chemistry between the two is combustible. The development of their relationship is perfectly paced. The growth in both characters is realistic and relatable.
The mystery is full of suspense and twists. I really thought I had it figured out. I was so wrong! The danger to Rose brings out the alpha in Phoenix and becomes part of his journey of healing.
This is definitely a stand alone book. Previous characters do make appearances. But the book focuses on these characters, which I love. If you haven't read the Steele Brothers Security books you may be a little confused about Phoenix's injury however. How he was shot is never mentioned in this story.
Now I am anxiously awaiting Jaggers book. It's up next and it sounds intense.

4.5 stars. A slow burn romance with suspense and drama. Well written and engrossing. Phoenix was injured in the book 'Cabin 1' and was in a coma in 'Cabin 2' and 'Cabin 3'. He now has to cope with this injury, as well as try and find out who is stalking his love interest, psychologist Rose, who has hidden secrets. You don't need to read the Cabin series, as this book stands alone re the story and romance. His brothers briefly appear as side characters, but nothing is reveled about their stories.

How is this book rated so high?! Let me start off with the positive…..it’s well written. Now onto the reason for my two stars. I’m ok with insta love but after a couple of days??? Also no mention of the back story of why Phoenix was shot in the head. Also when his brother appear in the books, no mention of their significant others. I always mike when an author goes back a little in the next book if it’s a series. Especially with previous book relationships. So disappointed

Wowza! I can’t rave enough about Amanda McKinney’s Steele Shadows Security books. This latest volume is hot and steamy with a dash of mystery and intrigue thrown in. Well more than a dash actually and I didn’t see that end coming. I can’t wait for the next installment to read more about Berry Springs hottest Security Team.

3.75 Stars. I enjoy this author writing style, especially the dialogue between her characters. Rose is a very strong individual and leading lady. Phoenix lives up to his name. The author did her research on brain injuries, though not so much on laws regarding relationships between psychologists and their patients.
To get the most out of this book, I recommend you read the Steele Shadow Security series first. The Steele brothers all make an appearance in this emotional story, but I was disappointed there was no mention of their lovely significant others.

Phoenix: Steele Shadows Rising is an outstanding romantic suspense by Amanda McKinney. Ms. McKinney has once more impressed me with her story-telling abilities. This book is well-written and populated with a phenomenal cast of characters. Phoenix is recovering from a gunshot to his head. He has to work with a psychologist in order to get his license and concealed carry permit back. Rose worked hard to overcome her background and get where she is but one meeting with Phoenix and she was thinking of handing him over to another psychologist. Phoenix and Rose's story is filled, cover to cover, with drama, humor, steam, action and suspense. I enjoyed every page of this book and look forward to my next book by Amanda McKinney. Phoenix: Steele Shadows Rising is part of the Steele Shadows Security Series but can be read as a standalone. I suggest reading books 1-3 first though, you won't want to miss out on any of THAT delicious reading. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

Phoenix is one panic attack away from losing it. His brothers and colleagues are walking on eggshells, waiting for him to inevitably lose the tiny grip on his monstrous temper. He's had to step down from running their company as he can't be trusted. That damn known on the head is taking away his independence - they won't even let him drive! Now he needs to see a headshrinker before they let him even attempt to get back on the road and, more importantly it seems, get his concealed carry licence back.

Dr Rose Floris, therapist and holder of a secret or two herself. Her childhood was not made of rainbows and sunshine. She has pulled herself into the life she wants. She may appear poised, polished in her designer-clad armour. But she may be about to face her biggest test yet - Phoenix Steele. Not just a brash playboy with an injured pride but a man who is slowly losing his identity as his brain injury saps his independence. Doesn't stop him from being a prize ass to Rose though!

Between a nasty animal hunter and a chilling stalker who appear to have Rose in his sights, Phoenix is going to have to pull all the frayed strands of himself together to save the girl!

Phoenix can be a total ass but he does have endearing qualities too. When he can't SAY sorry he can definitely SHOW it. Yes he uses money more often than not, but he can be sweet too. Phoenix most assuredly knows how to make Rose leave all her boundaries and crash through whatever ones she has left. He could have imploded her professional life with his rampant disregard for the rules of therapy LOL

Well written

I enjoyed reading this book. It was well researched regarding head injuries and the chemistry between the two characters was good.
The only thing missing is that the author did not mention the partners of Phoenix's brothers. Despite the I liked the book.

Wow !! A very intens, emotional, steamy and thrilling story. It’s the first in the new Steele shadows rising series by Amanda Mckinney. You don’t have to read the Steele shadows security series before this book, since this can be read as a standalone, but I do reccomend it.
“ A man who cheated death” and
“ A woman hired to pick up the broken pieces “ This is what the blurb says, and made me want to read the story straight away. And wow, this is a real pageturner!
I couldn’t put it down, I loved Phoenix and Rose. The story is very emotional, great characters. I highly recommend this book. I received this ARC from the author. My review is my honest opinion.

Amanda has done another PHENOMENAL job !! Phoenix ‘Feen’ is such an Amazon character. I loved him in Cabin 1 and when the book ended I was mad I mean really upset. BUT Feen finally gets his story and boy is it a doozy. Phoenix is handsome, strong and oh so flawed. Both physically and mentally.

Rose ‘Flower’ wow she is such a strong, very strong, independent, beautiful, feisty and amazing woman. I absolutely loved her character. She is also a flawed woman that has overcome so many odds just like Phoenix.

Their chemistry is instant but of course they can’t act upon it. I loved how Amanda used mentally illness along with references to Veterans. I CAN NOT wait for her next book !! HIGHLY RECOMMEND READING !!

I received this as an arc and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Not a bad series. Good storyline, even unpredictable at times. In all 4 books the women are authentic with captivating character. My only disappointment was that there was no information about the couples that were created in previous books as you usually have in these types of series. ..a bit annoying

The Steele Brothers return and this time it is the eldest brother, Phoenix. Phoenix is recently out of a coma after being shot in the head while investigating the death of his father, he is trying to get his life back together and his temper under control. To do this he must attend therapy, where he meets the gorgeous therapist Dr Rose Floris, who has a few issues of her own. Phoenix and Rose are both stubborn and strong willed. Their chemistry is off the charts and when Rose is threatened Phoenix takes it upon himself to protect her.
I loved this book, Phoenix is my new favourite Steele Brother and I recommend that you read them all.
Amanda McKinney is one of my favourite authors and she certainly knows how to write a great story and great characters.

There aren’t words!
This is an “edge of your chair” read that is if you can even sit still to read it. There was so much going on that the intensity; mystery, emotion, and hot steam sex wore me out. This entire series has been unbelievable, but this one beats them all. The chemistry between Rose and Phoenix is off the charts as is their mutual respect for each other’s accomplishments in spite of obstacles they have overcome. There is a constant undertow throughout the book relating to a serial murderer that’s on the loose. Be prepared for an entirely unexpected culprit that absolutely no one suspected. The usual amazing characters and writing make this a familiar yet unimaginable read. If I could have given it more stars I definitely would have!

That's a big wow!

Sexy and steamy and a mystery. How can one series have so many incredible hunks in one place. I liked Phoenix in the original book and I'm glad his character was fully developed in this book. It feels like a complete circle. Now we need a short novel to see how all these hunny guys and strong women make it. Can't get enough of these incredible brothers! Hurry up next one!

This is one series I liked following while waiting for the next one. With the men that are in this we now will get a closer look at Phoenix whom will own us in no time at all. The intimacy that will come out of this will grow from within. Rose has her own story but with them intertwined with Phoenix we will be transfixed with what will unfold before us. There is a fight that has us riding a wild one with the whips that cause the neck to roll. My favorites are contained within with that being murder and suspense along that passion that are just a few ingredients that can cause a combustion. Each one leaves you wanting more but satisfied with what you are given.

Phoenix by Amanda McKinney is the next book about the Steele Security. This book starts the Steele Shadows Rising, spinning off from Steele Shadows Security. The brothers that make up the Steele family are all rich, strong, ex marines that seemingly can survive anything.

Phoenix Steele is well named as he has survived a gunshot wound to his head. Yet he has survived and is determined to thrive. He has lost so much and he knows his family is worried about him. In order to get back part of his life, he needs his license and his concealed permit. His family has had to run the business. He needs to work through the anger and loss of skills he needs to regain and now he needs to go to therapy and talk.

Dr Rose Floris is a woman with a concealed past. She has worked hard for her degrees and knowledge. She will need to use her training for this new case. Phoenix is going to test her skills and challenge her. However there is more danger afoot. There seems to be someone killing animals and the weather seems to have taken a turn for the horrid.

Phoenix begins to develop feelings for Rose. She seems to have captured all his instinctive protective feelings. He is determined to discover all about her both the past and the future. To do that, she needs his help and she needs to be convinced.

I have only recently discovered Amanda McKinney and this series. Each of these alpha males in the series only seem to become human and likable after they meet a woman who is strong and can push back at them. I was looking forward to this novel to find out more about Phoenix and how he survived his injury. Phoenix by Amanda McKinney was a good read!!

Once again Amanda McKinney gives us an inside look at the Steele brothers of Berry Springs. This is a great continuation of Cabin 1, 2 and 3. We know that Phoenix has miraculously woken up from his coma, now he needs to deal with the aftermath of his Traumatic Brain Injury. His brothers, Gunner, Alex and Gage have his back he knows this yet he feels as though has failed them. It takes the help of a therapist, Dr. Rose Floris, to explain what he needs to do to get his life back. Rose has her own issues. Can helping Phoenix help her overcome her own problems? Can these two find their own happily ever after?

An Intense Tale!
“Phoenix” is a well-developed suspenseful, thrilling rollercoaster ride with twists and turns that keeps you guessing until the last page. Phoenix is a hot romance with drama, intrigue, and action that keeps coming. The main characters Rose and Phoenix have a stormy, steamy attraction that keeps this tale exciting. I enjoyed this intense tale. Recommended!

Rose has had a really hard life, she has a hidden childhood, in that she won't talk about it at all. Phoenix got shot in the head when he was investigating his father's death, see the previous Cabin books ( they're great and well worth a read). He's now supposed to be having therapy so he can get his driving and gun licences back.
To say he's not happy about it is an understatement!

After reading the 3 previous books focusing on Pheonix's brothers I thought I was a little familiar with who he was and where his own story would lead. But I was so wrong. What a great read and what a dynamic character. I was lost a bit in the psychology terms but that didn't lessen the amazing journey. Who knew Phoenix was going to be so deep and multi dimensional. I loved this book. Amanda McKinney is the Best!

I've been waiting for Phoenix's book. Amanda McKinney does not disappoint in the continuation of the steamy Steele Brothers.

Rose is very strong and independent, which makes her a perfect match for Phoenix. This has been by far, my favorite in the series. You will not be disappointed with this one. I can't wait to see what else is in store for the remaining books in the series.

Great characters. Wonderful dialogue. Fantastic plot. Fear, guilt, desperation, murders, stalking, jilted ex lover, fami!y feud and , to top it all off, true insanity and terror. Suggest reading the first Steele stories before this one to truly understand the male hero...and he is a hero.
