Mira should have flunked out of the academy—instead, she got the assignment everybody wanted.

When seventeen-year-old Mira Johns is selected by the academy ahead of six hundred other candidates as the first student ambassador ever to travel from the planet Nreim to Earth—despite coming dead last in every competition—Mira decides it must be because she’s the least likely to attract the Earth high school’s primitive and forbidden males.

That theory is blown when she does attract the attention of one of those males—a mysterious boy with a reputation as the crazy kid. After an initial period of resistance, Mira discovers they have a connection that transcends stupid rules.

When a series of serious accidents make it clear that someone wants to force her return, Mira realizes there’s got to be something sinister going on; but she can’t ask for protection from the agents assigned to protect her without revealing her big rule violation.

Mira’s only hope to keep her new friends safe and stay on the planet with her new love is to uncover the truth to why she, the most mediocre of candidates, was actually chosen for this assignment—before the agency discovers her secret and sends her back home.

Academy with an out-of-this-world twist. ExtraNormal Academy Book One is a captivating story of romance and adventure. If you like break-the-mold paranormal YA fiction, light romance, and a twist of science fiction mixed with paranormal, then you’ll love the first book in Suzanne Reese’s groundbreaking series.

This story grabs your attention at the first page. On going adventure holds you to the edge of your seat. This is an extraordinary adventure of misters, intrigue, suspense, and curiosity. A story that any teen would love.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the characters and the story line. My only major issue with this book is that it needs to be edited. There is one really HUGE glaringly obvious issue. Chapter 14 was in my copy twice. Once where it actually belonged and right after chapter 2. Yeah, I was a bit confused because it made no sense where it was and I looked at the chapter number then had to flip back to the last chapter. It is very obvious it doesn't belong there and ruins the flow of the story. Otherwise, I did enjoy it and would love to read more (hopefully edited) by this author.

Mira Johns is pretty much like any other teenage girl. Which is why it's a shock when she's selected ahead of six hundred other candidates to be the first student ever to travel from the planet Nreim to Earth. Even though she’s only there to observe, she’s given what feels like a million rules that are mostly intended to keep her away from the planet’s primitive males. But after she finds one mysterious boy too irresistible for stupid rules, she realizes they have a connection that transcends their two planets—and puts both their lives in danger. When a series of serious accidents makes it clear that someone wants to force her return, Mira decides her only hope is to uncover the truth to why she, the most mediocre of candidates, was actually chosen for this assignment—before the agency discovers her secret and sends her back home.

This was a really great book, along the lines of The Host by Stephenie Meyer. The story line is very unique in that things are different in Mira's world. Yet, she was sent to Earth on a mission to observe her findings. But as time progresses, she knows that she has something bigger on her hands. And when her Father arrives to Earth, she has a very limited time to uncover the truth and figure out a way not to lose Jesse forever. The pace was perfect and the world building took me for a delightful loop. The concept behind ExtraNormal is extremely innovative and highly interesting. Even how Mira experiences things on Earth for the first time, we realize just how much we (as humans) tend to neglect the simple things.

A mix of Urban Fantasy and definitely Sci-Fi, what an exciting new young adult series. I love how the author Suzanne V. Reese has woven mystery, love, family, teen angst and a ton of intrigue all while being an alien from another planet here on earth. Mira, trying not to stand out and learn all of the teen idiosyncrasy plus fit in is such a hoot, I couldn't stop smiling. Ms. Reese seems to know and writes about the teen angst quite well. The characters are well fleshed out, the story line great, it reminds me of the movie Men in Black minus the really unusual looking aliens but all the FBI like intrigue. Book 2 is next I can hardly wait. If you like young adult high school love, school qlicks, aliens and secret agents you'll love this new series.

Enticing Start to the Series

The story is a first person narrative by our protagonist, Mira. Mira comes from a parallel world with some major differences in society, rules, and technology. We follow Mira through her first assignment as she deals with teenage anxieties, romance, and a sinister plan by those she is supposed to watch.

The character development and world building are well done. We story arc doesn’t leave us wondering what we missed.

This is a coming of age story with a strong and independent female lead. It is complete by itself while setting up the future books in the series.

Mira is a teenager from an advanced world with similarities to Earth humans but some supernatural skills. Her mother is sent to Earth to investigate several people who have gone to Earth but seem to be doing potentially harmful things to the "neo-humans" of Earth. Mira has accompanied her mother to keep her eyes on one of the "teachers" at the high school and to find out what exactly is going on. She falls in love with Jesse a boy that is tormented by Everett one of the students there and who appears to be injuring people that Mira cares for. I won't give any further information but this book tends to keep you guessing in an enjoyable way!

Fast and fun

I really like this story and the characters. The only glitch was chapter 2. The storyline was still being introduced. Mira still didn’t know her classmates well and all of a sudden chapter 2 has her interacting with friends and discussing an enemy with no context. I almost quit but chapter 3 resumed right where it should. It must have been a glitch because I never found a good place for the scene in chapter 2 in the ensuing chapters.

But it was a good and fun read. On to book 2

I really liked the plot. It was engaging all through out. The characters are very likable, especially Mira. And it made me realize how much we take forgranted a burger! When she ate it for the first time, I felt like going out and buying at a restaurant and actually doing it the justice it deserves. Lol. We live and we learn, and I think that's the message I got from this book. Very well written and throughly thought out.

What makes us human?

This is an excellent read for all Sci-Fi fans. People from a distant planet are on earth, investigating a couple from their own planet suspected of committing crimes. A teenage girl Mira cannot understand her attraction for animal make Jesse or her revulsion of another, Everett soon she has more to worry about what is happening to her?
A superb mixture of Sci-Fi and hormonal teenagers will appeal to all readers

The plot is fast-paced and full of thrills and excitement which keeps readers charmed and delighted throughout. Add to the suspense and excitement and readers certainly can’t find a dull moment in this energetic and enchanting read. Great action and suspense for a young adult romantic sci-fi. I got this as an ARC copy from Reading Cave and decided to review it voluntarily.

This book reminded me of Roswell when I first saw it, but the story is not quite like that. But it was an enjoyable read, nonetheless. I'm a sucker for any type of romance, so when Mira falls in love, or patterns, with a neo-human things reaaaaallyy get interesting. I got an ARC copy from reading cave and am leaving an honest review.

I couldn't put the book down

This book should come with a warning: read at your own risk. I'm afraid I was a real couch potato today. Instead of going swimming and enjoying the warm and sunny weather, I stayed in reading this book.
Finally a book that really got me hooked from the first sentence.

I was lost from the start. I could not figure what was going on because it seem to start at school nothing about her or where she was from or what she was suppose to be doing just a first day at school for her.
The further I got into the book it started to perk up my interest because it let me know a bit what was going on and that made it easier to follow plot. It was a good read but the start was odd to me.
