Interesting little guide book, ended up skipping some chapters such as the Memoir section and Poetry. Some interesting exercises though.

A great read. I don’t even want to write. Just had a vague curiosity that was inspired by the book. My curiosity was rewarded. Lots of inspirational quotes, cool exercises and tips, sound advice. I certainly learnt something from reading this book.

A broad introduction to writing and being a writer, and overall an enjoyable read. Split into 12 chapters each taking on various aspects of writing such as plot, structure and character as well as diving into specific sections on fiction, non-fiction, poetry and other genres.

It was easy to read and understand with lots of practical exercises and suggestions, inspiring quotes from well-known writers and tips on where to find out more.

It doesn’t go especially deep into topics, but gives you a broad understanding of each and clear ideas about where to go if you want to go deeper.

It’s clearly written and the author obviously cares about and knows abut the subject.

There were a few occasions where the advice / explanations seems overly obvious and simplistic (as it’s aimed at beginners), but mostly it’s well pitched and I learned more about writing from reading this. Worth a read if you’re just starting out in this area.

This book is really for the beginning writer. It's full of direct, inspiring quotations from writers, as well as succinct definitions and advices. It comes with excellent exercises. For more experienced writers, they already doing it, and the exercises are ones they've already done and keep doing. I am keeping it for the quotations and the journaling prompts, but only some of the exercises.

I enjoyed it. It’s a helpful book for anyone interesting in the art of writing. It helped me finally put a pen to paper (or rather a finger to keyboard, but that doesn’t quite have the same ring to it).
