This book is not so much an attempt at giving an absolute answer on why men rape but a dissection of different perspectives on such a heavy subject. The authors interview convicted rapists, victims, relatives of victims, psychotherapists, and an ex-cop; who give varied viewpoints on this depravity resulting in a pretty insightful read.
It was difficult to get through some of the interviews with the rapists without getting angry or even fearful at times. While there are so many layers to why they do it, there's a consistent pattern of rape simply being a senseless act where the assailant is simply projecting their own inadequacies with women/sex on innocent subjects. There's no complexity to most rape cases and it's sad that mostly women have to pay the price.
