"She can hear everyone's deepest thoughts but him.."
It all began with a broken heart.
Sarah Porter had gained a supernatural power after an incident caused by her head injury which was the consequence of her falling apart from depression.
Her power was the ability to hear people’s thoughts. Therefore, no truth was ever hidden from her.
She could hear every dark and dirty thought.
Was it a curse or a blessing from God?
Sarah found herself facing challenges in living a normal life. And one day, she had an encounter with a man whose thoughts she couldn't hear, the only person Rayan Colt.

Okay, why was this even recommended to me?

Writing children's books is both an experience and a responsibility. True, most writers start with children's stories but that does not mean in any way that these stories are any less literary.

Children's stories are by no means:

- Cluless: which means they are not easier than adult novels. They require the same elements that make a literature book what it is [strong characterization, interesting plots, clear language, and the capacity to create an exciting world]
- Stereotypical: writing stories to children with the misconception that they are all the same and their ways of seeing the world are straightforward is not realistic. Children read about characters that they can relate to. Therefore, the book has to emphasise the curiosity of that age group, childhood memories and adventures all while having an understanding of contemporary kids.
- Plain and expected : this might be the reason why children nowadays prefer other things over reading. Suspense and tension are two crucial elements to the appeal of a children's book.
Cute language and moments with animals and parents are perhaps needed at times but they should not replace a good story with an actual plot and ups and downs.
For readers - all kinds of readers- to like characters, they need reasons to care about them and sometimes worry about them which is why conflict is paramount.

That being said, this book manages to check all the terrible errors and more.
It was boring and silly with characters that have absolutely nothing interesting about them.

I hope children never read this for the horribly outdated stereotypes it presents.

While any attempt at anglophone fiction is encouraged in Tunisia, considering that English is a third language, the abundance of mistakes rendered the whole experience intolerable. Style seemed peculiar and far from flattering, reducing any potential literary value to mediocrity. What I disliked the most was the preface/intro. Might also want to consider using a different font, because the edition available in stores is almost funny. All in all, it was barely a good read; I suggest putting in more time to edit before publication. But ay! Maybe the next one will be better.

I was happily granted a review copy of this book by the author and I was genuinely intrigued by the synopsis as the reading-minds superpower was one of the most appealing ones for me as a child.
I regret that this book was presented to me as a fantasy because my expectations for it were totally different. If you're reading this review before reading the book, here's your rectification. This is a romance/thriller'ish novel with a fantasy element to it.
As someone who is totally not a fan of men who invade women's personal space as a form of flirting and who is so done with the clumsy-weird-but-still-so-beautiful-and-cute girl who melts the heart of the mysterious workaholic rich man I found myself cringing so hard over the romance. As for the mystery part, I think that it could have been way better than this as a lot of the things the characters did, didn't make sense at all. I couldn't see any valid reason why they didn't just call the police.
I wouldn't recommend this book for someone who has read a lot of romances and mysteries but if you're a teenager, someone who has just started reading or if you're looking for an AFTER-style love story minus all the sex, this book can be the next on your TBR shelf.
Good luck for the author in her future projects !

"The phone ranged"
- an actual sentence from this book

I would give this zero stars if I could. This is possibly the worst book I have read in my entire life. The only thing that motivated me to finish this book was that I could talk about how terrible it was in this review and give it one star. From page 40 I already hated it. This whole reading minds thing is a good concept, but bad execution. The writing felt like 3rd-grade level. I know it's her first novel, but is it so much to ask to edit your book? Is it too much to ask a friend to read it over and give feedback? This was also kind of cringy pick-me vibes. I don't need to know that his smell is "manly", what does that even mean? I don't need to hear about random people thinking she's so beautiful and a pretty girl shouldn't be working there. Nobody wants to read about some random basic white girl thinking she's unloveable, will never participate in romance, and die alone. And the dreadful romance at the end. I mean we all knew it was coming but it was still absolutely atrocious. It was just so unnecessary. This book was probably self-published or the author is a nepotism baby because the publishing company has her last name in it. Anyway, 0/10, don't put yourself through reading this.

I just finished your book and it's amazing 😍 i have some things in common with sarah btw 😂 i just loved the story of her and rayan. Just one thing ! i thought that rayan would have a super power just like her 😂 didn't expect that!!! Also There was some unexpected actions that added more value to the story. For the first time i was like ugh why all this drama 🤣 then i realised that's the beginning of another story 😍
Waiting impatiently for your next masterpiece

Where do I begin? 😮‍💨

The most bothering thing about it is the writing style and not to mention the too-many-to-count mistakes it had.. the writing was so poor and cheesy.. even cringy at times..
Predictable story, predictable plot with a consumed idea to begin with 🙄

It's just disappointing, honestly..

•The Girl with the Golden Mind• by the Tunisian author D.B Soltana:
It is a young adult novel with a tempting plot ; it includes romance , funny moments with an exciting mystery .
It was a great novel to start my year with ... this book includes a deep message about the biggest downfall in humans : Lies!
•The major character Sarah Porter was an example of a bookworm girl who lives a simple life with her family . She's a smart girl and a hard worker until she's gifted with a superpower ... hearing people's minds . Just imagine yourself listening to others thoughts knowing their filthy ideas .would it be a curse or a gift ?
•There is a great progress from chapter to chapter and I actually didn't feel bored counting pages waiting to end the chapter . I was excited to know what's coming next .
•Reading about Sarah's imaginary psychological case taught me a great lesson about the evil side of humans . Moreover, the author described her symptoms in details so that you can live her case and feel her anxiety .
• From the other side, there's Rayan the CEO who was the special man in her life ; the only one she couldn't hear his thoughts ! He was a threat to her ; she doesn't know whether to trust him or not .
• I'm not going to spoil but there was a mystery to solve and of course Sarah Porter was included as she has her supernatural power of reading minds . I enjoyed this part a lot because the book's mood has changed from funny scenes and hearing thoughts into a mystery . D.B Soltana has succeeded to build the scene for us .. she is so creative in crafting words and turning them into beauty .
•Personally I enjoyed this book and it was a salvation to me especially in these hard times .

So I've been seeing this book all over my fyp "it's the best"
" buy it now !"
"The author is Tunisian"
"It's a page turner"
so when I first saw it in the mall, I threw it in my cart. And let me tell u that was the worst decision of my life.
How could a sane person decide to publish a book that has tonnns of grammar mistakes ? How did the editor approve of this ??
This litterly got my hopes up because I want to be an author.
It's that easy :
Step 1 : write a trashy book .
Step 2 : get it to an editor
Step 3 : become a published author
Yayyyy!

Ok so let me tell u that I've annotated this book. And my annotations are whether just me cursing the characters , questioning my life decisions Orr laughing at the characters (not out of joy ofc )
If the author reads my annotated book she would quit writing for good .

Anyways let's get to the point , so this book talks about a pick me girl that is traumatized from relationships cause she got cheated on. crazy right ???
She accidently hit her head and woke up with the superpower to read minds. This girl has no social life and no personality . She spends her days reading books . Oh wow !
So she meets a man whose mind she cant read :the chose one ! she starts working for his ass at his company and their relationship develops .

The male character doesn't feel like a real person at all . She just kept describing him as the perfect successfull man that I was just fed up at some point. And the worse is that he knows he's "perfect", like he just thinks he's the best , the smartest , the most successfull and every single person around him is just dumb . Yk what I mean ?

Page 34, the author called the male character "handsome stranger " 3 times , 3 FREACKING TIMES ON ONE PAGE . like we get it he's HANDSOME (I doubt that ) .
What I've picked up from this book is that the male character that I can't even remember his name is a cold unshakable business man that is heartless and he was mister know it all and the" most confident man ever" . He studied psychology (conclusion:you should be scared of him ) , he had the charisma of a heartless cold business man and of course the list goes on and on . (Not my words , the author's)

" his car was black Mercedes Benz " ok? We get it he's rich.

And let me tell u something , if u are into the trope : stubborn girl x stubborn boy , go for this book ! Oup sorry I meant stubborn man cause did I forget to mention that this guy is in his 40s ?
Anyways the girl is no different , she's stubborn and just because she got this superpower she thinks she's "that girl" : the smart girl that no one should question.
She has golden hair AND definitely not brown eyes (I forgot the color but it's green or blue) and the author somehow made it really known that this girl is freacking pretty and everyone wants to rape her (idk how I should feel about that ) .

She thinks she's smart but she's everything but smart . This dumb blond bitch just got KIDNAPPED , she was KIDNAPPED FOR A WEEK. and she forgot that she had an apple watch on her wrist ??? Whattt??? USE UR BRAIN , IF U HAVE ONE OFC !
I'm so done with this book fr.

This author just thought "oh wait ! Let me make the 'perfect' story where the male character is the perfect heartless , confident bussiness man and the female character is the pretty girl that everyone wants and that is obsessed with reading "
that's just downright ridiculous!

Nice couple right ? Just the perfect fit for each other !

Like I just got the ick , I couldn't enjoy the book.

At first I loved the idea of the book , but it was not written well .in order to have a good book u need to deliver the idea very well to the receiver which is the reader . But here the author did the complete opposite .

The Book had too many unnecessary details . There were many scenes that were meaningless , pointless and not enjoyable . Like I do not need to know that she woke up on a random Monday, read a book , went on a walk , sipped her coffee by the window and then went to sleep? I really don't need that info and I don't care .

Like tell me why this author decided to add the description "he was a bald blond guy with small eyes" have yall ever heard of a bald blond guy ? Cause I never did .

" they kissed for a few seconds or minutes "
What the fuck ?

And let's not talk about the "romantic" scenes . idk if I can even call them romantic at this point cause they're everything but romantic. These scenes are just :
1_awkward
2_disgusting ( if u think I'll be screaming and giggling and kicking my feet when I'm reading about how a 40 year-old workaholic CEO is breathing down this "pick me" girl's neck. You're completely wrong . )
3_ torture just complete torture.

Plus , there was no tension between the characters , nothing to make them end up together . He just scratched his head and decided to kiss her .

The plot was bad. No plot twists . Nothing special . Nothing to keep u on ur toes . Just a plot . I would recommend this book to a child.

The characters were bad … they didn't feel or sound real . The book is full of cringe moments. The interactions felt awkward , not realistic and rushed. Plus have the author never heard of "show don't tell". Look I'm not here attacking this author (i definitely am )but we need to get some things straight , when introducing a character u need to show not tell and obviously the writer did the complete opposite . She just went on describing how succesfull this man is , how rich he is , how cold he is and yada yada .

The ending was "and they lived happily ever after" kind of ending . Nothing is exciting about this book . You can just tell I didn't have fun reading it .
Please don't read it , if u already bought the book , throw it or gift it to someone u genuinely hate or read it so we can hate on it together . The more the merrier.

And I thought I was safe, but I'm not cause the second published book of this author is sitting on my book shelf . I just had to grab the two books on my little trip to the mall. But little did I know I'll be hating her first book.
Am I gonna read her second book ? Yes , yes I will . But I just need to mentally prepare myself for that.

The Girl With The Golden Mind, written by D. B.Soltana, could be categorized among the NA (new-adult) fiction.
I loved this book!... While reading it, there are plenty of enjoyable moments, especially the romance moments of Sarah Porter with Rayan Colt. But, some moments evoke fear and sadness that probably will make one cry. Added to that, it is salient to notice that the protagonists, Sarah and Rayan, evolve throughout the story. Overall, it is an appealing and thrilling story imbued with suspense and mystery.
The author made a wise choice of words writing this story: the thorough descriptions create a sense of immediacy and enable you to picture the characters, the scenes, and the events vividly. In other words, it is one of those kinds of books that can be made into a movie.
I would recommend this book for anyone interested to know what it's like to have supernatural power, that of hearing people’s minds, and wonder if it is “a blessing or a curse”, or maybe just anyone who wants to take a break from life to get immersed in the journey of “the girl with the golden mind”, and get emotionally involved in the process.

I read the Girl with the Golden Mind by D. B. Soltana and I enjoyed it. Sarah Porter works for large multi-national company and encounters what I will call a case of industrial espionage. Sarah Porter helps solve the crime with a slight, but not complete advantage of being able to read minds. Still being young at heart, I enjoyed this first novel by a talented author. The book is suspenseful enough so I can say that possessing a Golden Mind is an advantage, but that it does not solve everything that our heroine encounters, including love.

I just finished reading the book and really enjoyed this experience. The way of telling the story as if it's a movie is very interesting and makes the reader interact with the storyline, maybe you'll cry, you'll laugh sometimes like me while you reading it so I really recommend this book.
It was a wonderful story of adventure, romantic, comedy, and wonder that analyzes reality and gives lessons and this is the more important.
I'm waiting for more by you DB soltana, good luck. 😉👏🏻👏🏻

I liked the book overall. It's a light one. I couldn't put it down until I finished it. it was fun and enjoyable, though sometimes cheesy, and usually predictable. what annoyed me the most was the typing and some grammar mistakes. but it is still a good read. definitely recommend, especially for beginners. I'm looking forward to her next book.

An amazing book to read especially during these times. I loved the story and the main characters. It is fast-paced with a lot of mystery, and it was the first book I read in English by a Tunisian author. I hope that more Tunisian writers publish in English in the future.
