Raven survived the trials with her wolf shifter, sexy billionaire twins, and the demon prince by her side. But it’s not over. Not by a long shot.
Another Fae got through the portal the night Raven and her men stopped Professor Halifax. He’s after something Raven has, and he’ll stop at nothing to get it.
On top of that, the school board decided the first trials didn’t count. There’s nothing like preparing for the most important test of your while trying not to die.
This last semester at the Academy of the Elites could be the most dangerous yet.
Unbound Magic is the fourth and final book in the Academy of the Elites series. Raven and her men take on one last adventure, get into some trouble, and add a little heat.
Alexis Calder writes sassy heroines and sexy heroes with a sprinkle of sarcasm. She lives in the Rockies and drinks far too much coffee and just the right amount of wine.
I was a little confused I started reading this book cause I thought the last book was the finale book in the series. But it was a good read not as good as the other books. I liked it.
It's always a big risk: Adding another book to a series that was actually already finished. The added book can feel disconnected from the first books or it can feel as if the author is just trying to milk an exciting story. I know that some people can never get enough from their favorite characters and couples, but I like it when authors know when to quit. So, was I nervous starting this book? Yes, I was.
But Alexis Calder found a great way to tackle the odds. She found a great way to connect this book to the previous three books in her series and not once did it feel as if she was trying to tell a story when there was nothing more to tell. This book really added something and it's a true asset. And even though the previous story arc was wrapped up nicely Calder found a great way to break it open again.
What I loved most about this book was the fact that the new case allowed us to see and learn more about Raven's fae powers. In the previous three books Raven was mostly struggling with her normal powers, but now she got the time and chance to dive in deeper and to discover more. She already was an amazing character, but how she learned and grew in this book really made her an even greater character.
I also really liked the bonding between the four men in the harem. Of course, they're mostly there because they're mated to Raven and madly in love with her, but for their futures to work they'd have to find a way to work together and learn to live with each other. We see each of the boys working on that aspect of their complicated relationship and I so rooted for them to discover that they could truly make each other stronger if they trusted each other more.
I still would have loved to see more of the politics outside the academy. There are quite a few very important moments that are skipped over in the book, but have huge implications. I would have loved to see the effect of those choices on the worlds concerned. But, since Calder could be persuaded to add this book, maybe I can persuade her to show me more of the politics? A girl can always try, right?
The series was free in my audiobook subscription. And I often saw books of this author but never read one. So I gave it a try. I rated all four books of the series with three stars. I read more exciting series, but this one was okay, and I could do other stuff, while listening to this series.
I liked the series but I would have liked more time getting to know the males. Every time the MC was with the men they were having sex or lusting for sex. I would have appreciated some character and relationship development.
This was really just an okay read. A better job could have been done in describing the elf magic Raven has. And after they all absorbed the dark magic from the book, it made no sense that it turned into good magic that just made them all stronger as a unit. I did like how it ended though.

This is a wonderful addition to this thrilling series! Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believeable. Great suspense and action with that adds so much to the story. Such a thrilling read that I couldn't put it down. Can't wait to read more of these. Recommend reading.

This last book in the series starts out right away with the action and suspense. Raven and her mates find out that after the last trial, that they will not graduate early. They are going to have to go through another trial. After Professor Halifax got locked up, we find out her mate has made it through the portal. What does he want? Can they stop him? Why does he want the book? Why is he threatening to hurt her friends? Can they stop him? What can they do since she can not tell anyone or he will hurt the students? Who is this new fae teacher? Is she part of the treat from this other fae? How will she stop them? What are these new test the fae professor are giving her and her mates? Can they beat the next trial? Will they ever graduate? What will happen to them if they do graduate.

I absolutely love this series but sadly this is the last one and the last adventure for Raven and her guys but nothing has been easy and it’s true this time too, a Fae came through the portal and he’s after what Raven has he will even try to kill her to get it but Raven won’t give up without a fight especially with her guys by her side. This has been a brilliant series I loved every story and this is a 5 plus ⭐️ read and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.
I loved this series! I actually felt bad for this poor girl always getting into trouble no matter what she did. While i thoroughly enjoyed the series i do feel that the ending feel a little flat. There was so much build up with the different villains and then the trails, which was great...but then after that the story just kind of ended. If there's a follow up story about this group i would love to read it though! Overall a great series!
I don't know why it doesn't have as many reviews as it should. This was a pure delight. Not much at all of fluff. Loved that. I never felt bored or the the author would get to the action. Never slow. No crazy insane over the top drama. Yes it had action and a couple of people trying to kill her at different times but hey, it wouldn't be great if not. Great guys as RH goes. You really really like them all. Loved how they all came together for her. Would definitely recommend. No MM or FF.
Academy of the Elites: Unbound Magic (Book 4) by Alexis Calder is an amazing story that I have looves reading. This is book number four in this amazing series and I can not wait to read what comes next. I highly recommed this story to everyone who loves reading about paranormal romances.

Sooo this is the last book in this series and i...... LOVED it! Written beautifully and wraps Raven's story perfectly! I'm sad to see the end bit so freaking happy for her HEA!🥰😍🤯🤩🤬🥺🥰😍
So, after reading the previous three books all back to back this one made me reflect on them all.
The Logic Police arrested a ton of scenarios in this book, which lead to a sting on the entire series! Raven was sent to this school to learn to use and control her powers…yet the series is done and she has graduated, but when did she learn to use her powers??? Almost every instance of her using her “controlled power” was through her mates! When she had to fend for herself against an enemy, she was utterly and completely useless!
Much talk was done about Raven being very powerful and all that, but no examples were shown to back that up. Every single time she had a one on one confrontation she either flaked or didn’t use magic at all to fight… But it was continually said that Raven can take care of herself. Not once did she take care of herself in the entire series. One or more of her mates always should up to save her. Except that one time with Delores…no spoilers, that’s all I will say…but it still falls into the same description as above with Raven and confrontations.
Her independent study times all seemed to last about 15 minutes, both with Halifax and the new professor and during that time she didn’t really accomplish anything! It’s like they spoke briefly, she’d do something that didn’t take but a minute and then the bell would rang! Her mage powers and her fae powers are different and she had lost her mage powers for a good bit of book 1 or 2, so how did she really learn to use it or control it in the first semester? She didn’t. Even when she got it back, she did nothing really except make some fire in her hands. It is hinted that in the Spellcasting class she did some things, but why glaze over what she learned if the book’s whole premise was for her to learn how to use and control her magic at the Academy of Elites? I was shocked when her professor said, “There’s nothing more I can teach you. You’ve done well.” or something along those lines. I was thinking, “you need to be fired” because she just got her to try some things using her fae magic and poof, Raven’s an expert! 🙄🙄
No world building was done. We know they are in the mortal realm, but how do the humans in the city the school is in view the campus? Is it invisible or do they know they school exists but just think it’s something else? In book 1, Raven and Makayla went shopping at the mall… which made me think “what do people who look like Mr. Green and Officer Malone do?”. How are they perceived to the human eye? Coach, running around half man half snake? Halifax with elf ears…. 🤷🏽♀️. They had pizza delivered by the boys on one occasion and in this book delivered by the restaurant. It was noted that the restaurant was owned by supernatural but…they brought the pizza to the dungeon to her dorm door…🤔 Like seriously, what is going on???
Side characters, like Mrs. Obscura and Madeline, the Princess of Hell went absolutely no wear. Why was it stressed about Obscura and mating with one or both of her sons if it went no wear on her part? After Raven was actually mated with them, no more interaction was done between them. The secret room and passage she was shown wasn’t revisited or used until late, as an afterthought. Also, when Raven initially told her in Mr. Green’s office that she had fae blood to deter her from trying to match make, Mrs. Obscura sounded shocked and delighted to find out. But later, at the lunch she had with her and her sons, she revealed that she know her mother and her father as they both attended AotE… so why wouldn’t she already know her father was fae? Her mother and father’s names were never mentioned this entire series.
Raven seems to have recollection of her mother, but mentions nothing about her father, though the “car accident” that killed THEM happened when she was 13! The logic police came through on that one too. Why wouldn’t she notice that his ears looked different? Why wouldn’t she have seen either of them performing magic? I could see if it happened when she was much younger, but nope.
***POSSIBLE SPOILERS*** At one point it was said that both her parents came from influential families, but only her mother was disowned. Then later it mentioned that her father was a prince, born of the royalty of two different courts in Faerie and that he left and never returned. So that would leave me to believe a coupe of things…1. Firstly, that she has an inheritance and family in Faerie that doesn’t know she exists. 2. That her father may not be dead, but in hiding because how could the time thief be more powerful than him, considering his heritage. He should have had a huge advantage over her…and if her mom was his mate, together they should have been hard to kill…if Raven and her mates are anything to go from. ***END SPOILER***
In the end, this series fell from grace. It started with a good storyline then lost itself somewhere in there. The premise of Raven actually learning to control and use her powers got
This series for me personally got progressively worse. Idk the characters aren't even interesting as they were in the beginning, though I never liked the fmc. It's like the author just wrote a book and threw in everything and anything to make people like it but it didn't mesh well for me. Also not once was protection ever talked about and I personally don't like if the author doesn't state a birth cöntrol method because some people are impressionable and read books at younger ages and it sets a president that they don't need to use any I get it's fictional but still if your not going to throw in a suprise pregnancy then wrap it or spell it up ya know... I still have a bit more to go I'm not even finished with the book but I swearrrrrrr this fmc is so childish and tstl and has been since the first book. I don't think it'll get better. I don't necessarily think it's the writing either it's just the character herself...
The fmc never had any growth throughout the books I was expecting some kick butt action not a girl who literally talks as though she's gonna have a panic attack anytime something doesn't go her way. I suffer from anxiety and panic attacks myself but this girls outrageous always taking chances and never actually learning to fight. Most people learn to throw down when they've been attacked and want to learn all they can to protect themselves but nope not her she only gets strong when shes with her mate. Anyways it wasn't badly written and I liked the concept just didn't much care for the way the characters acted and reacted so it flopped but it might just be me so give it try if you want.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
There are some topics in this series that are just mentioned but never really explained or followed.
Like it's just off handedly mentioned 'you are child of the missing Fae prince'... Raven dreams of dungeon... I hoped it would lead to her finding out her father was still alive but kept in dungeon somewhere and because of their connection she is being pulled to him or something like that... That would open up a way to contact her Fae family...
Dr. Green just randomly told her about some hidden Fea settlements. Is she gonna try to visit and learn more about them? ~Or does she have like enough after Flora lessons?
I was hoping she would find a way to bring back a trade between Fae and mortal realm. She and her mates could be in charge of unwanted trespasers and she could be taking part in talk between Fea and others...
Btw Ms Obscura was fine with her sons to just leave after she fought for her family business??
I really had high hopes for this series. But the balance between the mystery and solving the mystery is overly frustrating and the balance between sex and story is not my preferred.
This book was the most frustrating of the whole series. I only finished about 40% then skipped to the end.
It was OK. Fitting ending if a bit rushed. Quite a few typos and I just skipped over all the sex scenes. Was quite over it - felt quite exhausted with the mc splitting her time between 4 guys so there was a sex scene every other page.
This final book of the Academy of the Elites series wrapped up some loose ends, and gave us one last plot twist to read. A shadow fae had slipped into the academy when Raven and Professor Halifax opened a portal to faerie at the end of the last book. He’s looking for the book that Halifax gave Raven. She stole it from him before she left faerie. So that storyline, along with the trials are what’s happening in this book.
While it was interesting, for some reason I didn’t enjoy this book as much as the others. Perhaps I was ready for this cast of characters to be put to bed. Some of the men’s crassness was more of a turnoff here than earlier and Our heroine got on my nerves a lot more than in the previous books.
I did find it interesting to learn more about fae magic and how the bond between our group has impacted their magic and abilities. I wonder if some of this could have been incorporated into the last book, rather than a book on its own. I would still recommend the series however. It was an enjoyable read.
Will Raven and her mates live long enough to pass the trials or will the shadow fae kill them? The trials have been re-scheduled. The students have about two months to prepare, and Raven has to strengthen and control her magic because each student will be tested individually. So Raven won’t have any help from her mates. But when she closed the portal Professor Halifax made her open, a shadow fae slipped in and wants a book Raven has. A very powerful book when in the fae realm. Raven can’t give it to him, but if she doesn’t he will hurt her friends and mates. He has already attacked one friend. He will be almost impossible to stop. Hoepfully the new fae professor will have some ideas for her and her mates. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
In what appears to be the last book in the series, the author has managed to get the plot together very beautifully.
Book 4 has been an amazing read. When I read book 3, the entire book had seemed incomplete and ended without closure.
However book 4 gives us a complete closure on what Raven and her men will do post college, of how they actually graduate and what was the reason that Halifax had given Raven the book from the land of Faery.
I do hope the author creates another series with this same set of characters, which is kind of hinted at the end.
Can't wait to read more about these 5 and their gang of friends.

A 3.25 star rating for a story that definitely opens up a pathway to a totally new series
Soooo......This book wrapped everything up in a cute little bow and left me disappointed. It took every twist and tied it up in about three sentences. I wanted danger and hot steamy scenes that turned this group into larger than life superheroes. All I got was eh, they did stuff. The positive is that she has opened up a new storyline for this group. I think the author has grown tremendously from book one to book four and will start pumping out some really good books soon. She definitely needs to work on the sex scenes though. They are still stilted and almost perfunctory. I'm looking for scenes written like authors such as, Tate James, Ivy Smoak and Candace Wondrak.
Raven just thought the closed portal solved her problem not so much those sneaky shadow fae are still at it another one managed to slip threw before the portal closed. Now it's after a book her magic is gone she and her mates are preparing for another found of the trials nobody's safe and the new professor may not be trustworthy. One things for sure trouble will find you when you don't need it and Raven will always have the help of her lovers and friends. But what happens when it's all over were will they end up have to read the book to find out.
I was allowed to receive and advance copy of this book via Booksprout and this is my honest review.
What a great series! When I read a series I don't rate each book individually. Ain't nobody got time for that! 🤭.. Anywho, book 3 was my absolute favorite. Everytime I thought I had a handle on what was coming next, Calder would switch it up and have me in anticipation again. The reason for the four stars, I think book three should've wrapped it up. I couldn't get enough of the first three books, I devoured them in two days but by book 4 I had lost interest. I loved that they got a great ending.
I really think this author is a good writer.. lots of potential. But I agree with other reviews on it being broken up and not having a solid beginning middle and end... I would rather have had two longer books then 4 short ones. Also too much sex... it goes from great writing and pulling you in to full on erotica and very graphic. The author needs to work on her flow in these scenes and making sure they do not over shadow the rest of the storyline. The right balance is what makes a romance novel great not good.
Nice follow-up book. Wow, the Academy of the Elites is a crazy school! Danger from not only the other students, but from the faculty and lots of unwanted and uninvited guests. They all thought the graduation trials would be the hardest and most dangerous thing they’d have to go through at school, but they were so wrong. Thankfully, Raven formed a strong bond with her four mates, and they’re definitely stronger together. A fun book full of excitement and danger and love and sexy times.
Reverse harem, fantasy academy story with shifters, demons, vampires and magic users. Fairly YA story with several sexual interludes. After magic erupts from our young heroine in order to save her life, she is whisked off to a magical Academy to learn to control her powers. Lots of actual schooling goes on and she gradually forms four mating bonds. She is discovered to have several rare powers and fights against foes trying to use her. Simple, basic entertainment. Nothing deep but correctly edited with a few exceptions.
I loved this series.... wish it didn’t end, I love ❤️ Raven and her posse, I was excited to see a HEA..
I hope Ms. Calder, writes a continuation of their lives after graduation.
And answers how Dr. Greene had such an impact and how he knew about what she needed. There are some more unanswered questions, hopefully we will find out..
I definitely recommend this book and this series. I finished the series in less than 3 days...
I really struggled finishing this one, it was really boring, and had very little tension to keep me interested in the story. I also found how the author chose to end the book very unsatisfying, if you build a story around these dangerous trials that test your magic... i expect to read about some interesting trials that actually test your magic, not some other random villain that just magically shows up at the right time.
