Ok don’t eat your meals whilst reading as some bits are a bit gruesome.
The story is centred around special agent Sebastian and his current case of finding and bringing down a murderer. The story also is told in retrospect - through dreams, reminiscing and backstory of when he became an orphan at five years old. I realise that this was important as the story seems to go a full circle in the end, that everyone involved deals with their past and seeks retribution in their own way.
I love how the author has created this damaged character who decides to gets into law enforcement despite his horrific upbringing and also deals with the separation of his wife, dealing with anxiety whilst the current case consumes his soul, literally.
I was hoping that there was a a bit more police procedural, such as get a trace on his wife’s phone when she was kidnapped. And other technological advances in our day and age could easily be included.
Although it is a very sad and dark story I did have an emotional hangover, I do look forward to more stories from the author.
Enjoyed this book very much although I had worked out the whodunnit and who the bodies were a long way from the end. Hope the next book keeps me rivetted!
An extremely precocious child. Why were his parents killed? the book never answered this question only say ing that his father had a great many enemies. I also got who was leaving the messages (although was about 3/4 through and guessed 'Jane Doe's' identity. Didn't like the ending in regards to Arthur, felt it was somewhat unfinished with no explainations
Powerful storytelling for a new author. I was hooked! The possibility for more police procedural, however, I think the author tried to avoid it by making the cat and mouse more personal.
Great twist, emotional rollercoaster and certainly looking forward to more from the author!
Solid storytelling from a first time author. Exciting, with the main antagonist very easy to hate - I wanted Sebastian, the protagonist to bend the law to exact revenge!
Emotional hangover following some of the gut wrenching writing and loss.
