This is the Bible of telemark technique, period. As an expert skier turned free-heeler, I became competent in telemark through hundreds of days of trial and error. Reading this book put together the pieces for me (that hundreds of days could not) and enhanced my form well beyond what I could have ever expected from reading a book on skiing. I could not possibly recommend this book more highly to anyone interested in telemark. You MUST read this!
Edit: I read the revised version, not this (original) version… but I can’t figure out how to remove my review!
Excellent, and seems to be the bible;- perfectly illustrated to more strongly emphasis and communicate the tips. I see it as a classic, I will be going back to it over and over as I improve.
In many ways (but not all) this is better than many (in person) lessons I have had; and way more handy!
As the title suggests, it's a book full of tips for those who already have some basic idea of how to telemark. All the tips are 1-3 pages long and illustrated with engaging cartoons. It has a great cross-index: if you're having this problem, try these tips. Very entertaining and useful book. It's a supplement to, not a replacement for, Free-Heel Skiing by Paul Parker.
I had an instructor at a one-day tele clinic recommend this book, and I have to say that it is worth the purchase price. It is especially helpful if you are a visual learner. Anyone trying to learn how to telemark should own a copy. The cartoons and the flip book are very helpful, and the visuals that they give you for the hill are easy to remember. This book is valuable enough that you will bring it with you in the car every time you hit the slopes, and go over a lesson with your sandwich at lunch.
I can read this cartoon book over and over. It's a book on how to improve your telemark skiing. Not only is it hilarious but it's useful. It has tips for all skill levels, and a handy goofy flow chart for figuring out your particular problem areas on the back page.
Outstanding! Read this before starting my first telemark lessons and it had a great impact. A must read for those interested in learning or venturing into the backcountry on tele skis. Written by NOLS instructors who know live and breath the material.
