Small Town Queer

Rate this book
Small Town Queer (full-length play) follows the lives of seven friends sitting around swapping stories of what it was like to grow us as queer individuals either from Newfoundland originally, or moved to Newfoundland later in life, etc. The play touches on topics of rejection, unrequited love, coming out, and many more themes. Originally produced in Corner Brook, NL, on October 26th, 2019, at Swirsky's on Broadway to a sold out audience. This play was written by queer people, preformed by queer people, in the attempt to shed a light on how similar our experiences are to those who do not identify under the umbrella of the LGBTQIA+.

This is a collection of 2SLGBTQIA+ characters telling the reader their stories. As such, the structure reminded me a bit of the Vagina Monologues and Valente's The Refrigerator Monologues. It works so well! I very much enjoyed reading this book, it feels like I sat down with these characters and listened to them speak. Recommended.
