Soli is a talented girl--just how talented, even her adoptive parents don't fully realize. And there are many secrets in her short past. As a toddler she used Xiot beyond the level of most adults to kill intruders bent on killing her mother Aurora, and Aurora fled with Soli, the daughter she adopted under mysterious circumstances, and Haley, her daughter by her late husband. Aided in their flight by Gaerwn, a newfound friend, the family undertakes a treacherous crossing of wintry and dangerous mountains, along the way discovering more of Soli's prodigious powers and witnessing the blossoming of love between Aurora and Gaerwn. Reaching a safe haven, the couple settles down in anonymity with the girls, adding a son, Stefan to the mix. For several years they live this quiet life of isolation. When Soli is seen using Xiot on the playground and given a full scholarship to a prominent boarding school, however, the wheels are set in motion to end the family's anonymous existence and reveal Soli's secrets--secrets that place her young life in grave danger.
