Witchwind: A Modern Gothic

This modern gothic has all the attributes of our old favorites, but with a twenty-first century heroine. Belinda, a recent Vassar graduate, is working as a tutor in a castle in an isolated village in Switzerland. A series of deaths at the castle are explained as suicide or accident, but the coincidences begin to point to murder. The townsfolk blame Belinda, claiming that she is a witch who arrived on the witchwind. Belinda is courted by both the heir apparent and the younger son, but she is painfully aware that one of them may be the murderer. When Belinda is abducted, tossed off a mountain, and left to die, she realizes that the "witch" was meant to be the final victim. After a painful and lengthy recuperation she returns to New York, only to become aware that at least one of the men in her life is still stalking her, waiting for a chance to complete the mysterious series of murders.
