This was so darn cute. It follows Lady Patience and Mr. Woodsworth in their unconventional journey towards love, and it really put a smile on my face the whole way through.

It’s a story of hidden identity, as these two meet when Lady Patience arrives at Mr. Woodsworth’s home under the guise of looking for work as a maid. She has always been a happy and carefree kind of woman, but after having been berated by her older brother for not understanding the hardships of life, she decides she will leave her titles behind for a month and pretend to be a regular woman of unnoble birth who no one will have any qualms about putting to some hard work. She believes this is what will make her understand what real life is like.

However, Patience soon realises that the most important task in that house should be to bring joy and laughter to the serious, stoic, and generally unhappy Mr. Woodsworth. He is a gentle and kind employer to her from the beginning who she believes is truly deserving of her help at finding love, and they come up with a hairbrained scheme that will involve Patience having to pretend to be a Lady (oh, the irony) to achieve that.
During all of this scheming they, of course, spend a lot of time together, but the bulk of it is spend during Patience’s tasks as a maid in which Mr. Woodsworth is nothing but patient and kind in explaining everything to her. She is entirely ignorant, yet this man does not berate her for it even once, even though he knows nothing of her noble birth and you would certainly expect a maid to know how to start a fire or properly clean a table.

It doesn’t take long for these two to form a tentative but beautiful friendship that slowly turns into more. Yet, both remain in denail about this for a while due to neither of them thinking that a romance between them could ever work, as both believe their stations to be insurmountably disparaging… Which is what leaves them to answer these questions for themselves: Can Lady Patience somehow set aside her duty to marry a Lord if it means marrying the man she loves instead? And can Mr. Woodsworth let his passion take over from his sense (for once) and let himself pursue a woman he thinks is only a maid if it means he would finally be able to find happiness in life?

I think the reason this novel worked so very well for me was because of how supremely likable both main characters were. Although you could somewhat describe their dynamic to resemble that of grumpy/sunshine, I wouldn’t want to go that far because of how gentle and sweet he is to her from the very beginning. He was extremely serious, but not necessarily grumpy. Honestly, he was just such a good guy, and she was such a charming and shining girl; which meant that all of their scenes together were just lovely and so fun to read about.

JOYFUL, CHARACTER DRIVEN HISTORICAL ROMANCE

This is one of those historical romance books were you just feel happy all the way through. You smile, you laugh and you look forward to the inevitable happy ending.

"You are quite bold for a misbehaving servant on her first day."
- Anthony

👍 WHAT I LIKED 👍

Anthony: I read a lot of historical fiction and usually it is of the more... erotic kind (don't judge, I have urges). This, however, is not of the steamy variety and that might be part of the explanation as to why I loved Anthony, our hero, so very much. Usually, in the 'adult content' historical fiction, the heroes are always rogues or rakes that are inexplicably ripped despite never working out. Anthony was so much more wholesome and I really loved it. He was serious about finding a wife, he was orderly and contemplative. He enjoyed lists and plans. He was totally different and totally crush worthy!

"I want you to pretend to be a lady."
- Anthony

Patience: Patience, our heroine, has such a delightful, sunny disposition she really brightened up this book. I also really enjoyed her tenacity and perseverance - especially in situations where people tell her, she can't do something. I felt like her sunniness and her spontaneity was the perfect fit for Anthony.

The Ugly Duckling: As a Dane, I love any Hans Christian Andersen reference - but I especially loved how his fairy tale The Ugly Duckling was incorporated into this story. I will not go into this much more because I want you discover this gem on your own, but I will say this: some things are overheard and misunderstood and hilarity/adorableness ensues.

"Lady Patience Kendrick seemed to think I was more like a duck"
- Anthony

Premise: While quite unrealistic, the premise of this book (Lady Patience pretends to be a servant who pretends to be a lady to help Anthony get engaged to someone else) was very fun and engaging. It is not often that I am able to enjoy an unrealistic premise/plot - this was one of those times.

I saw an enthusiastic review for this one, and since I always love a good Regency Romance I decided to give it a try. It did indeed turn out to be good and now I have another author on my reading list.

I very much liked the two main characters in A Proper Charade. They matched each other so well and their slow fall into love was appropriate. The story could have descended into a farce at times but the author was really restrained and it always remained at the level of fun. The side characters were written well too.

There were no bedroom scenes, no clothes torn or even removed. Just two attractive people finding each other despite huge obstacles. Light, fun reading and I enjoyed it very much.

To show her brother and herself she is able to work and think of others, duke’s sister Lady Patience Kendrick takes employment as a maid knowing she has no domestic skills. When her employer Anthony Woodsworth asks her help in a charade to secure him a bride, Patience knows there will be and enormous risk to her reputation.

A Proper Charade is book 2 in the Proper Scandals series by Esther Hatch published by Covenant Communications. The story is about Lady Patience Kendrick who tries to prove she can be useful and responsible. When Patience screws up the most basic maid’s duties, general’s son Anthony Woodsworth shows her the ropes. He asks her help in a scheme to hurry his courtship along. Patience enters social functions in disguise to avoid getting recognized as the duke’s sister, while Anthony is seriously puzzled by how well she blends in.

Main character Patience Kendrick is the headstrong and free-spirited lady who temporarily reinvents herself as a maid. I feel she is a well rounded and realistic character who has lived a very sheltered life, so I find it refreshing she wants to work for the first time in her life.

Supporting character Anthony Woodsworth is the very structured but kind and caring general’s son who gets totally flustered when Patience enters his life as a maid. Instead of firing her for being incompetent, he takes her into his confidence. He is my favorite as he has a flexible mindset not too limited by strict society demands of the time.

The plot stands out as different the way it describes Patience’s need for change. Grief seems an underlying theme as her family is in mourning. I felt the dialogue was very lighthearted, enjoyable and amusing, particularly when Patience tries to learn how to do maid’s duties. This is one of the most entertaining stories I have read in a long time. It came alive for me by the beautiful writing describing mistakes and misunderstandings in a vivid way. I read A Proper Charade as a standalone. A well rounded story which worked perfectly on its own.

My favorite part was the amusing situation when Anthony tries to propose marriage to Patience while she hides behind a curtain, thinking she is the woman he has unsuccessfully courted for two years. Least favorite part was descriptions of Patience’s gloomy home life. Her stressed out brother keeps telling her she is naive and useless until she can’t take it anymore.

The romance part I felt was sweet and entertaining. Patience and Anthony got off to a rocky start but their «project» gave the opportunity to bond. The ending included some surprising twists which tied it all together into a satisfying ending.

Anyone who enjoys historical romance fiction and fans of Esther Hatch will love this lighthearted and entertaining story. Similar authors to explore might be Sarah M. Eden or Kristi Ann Hunter.

Conclusion: This is the lighthearted and entertaining story about the duke’s sister who temporarily reinvents herself as a maid to prove she can be useful when working in the household of a general’s son. Only she didn’t expect to care for her employer quite like she ends up doing.

A Proper Charade is full of delightful characters with endearing mannerisms. Patience is a character I can't help but like. She's impulsive and adventurous, but with a good heart that wants to please her brother and I think prove it to herself that she can be more than what society expects of her. I most enjoyed that Anthony and Patience were genuine, especially with each other. They are sincerely seeking to find their place in the world without compromising their true selves or being forced to change for someone else or society. Their personalities complement each other- she appreciated how he grounded her, and found her liveliness engaging. I thought it was admirable that she was not fooled by the other charming and frivolous men in higher society, but saw clearly Anthony's superior character. And the first kiss scene is so fun- definitely not the generic kisses that are often found in the genre. I found it inventive and felt that it also demonstrated their personalities in a creative way.

One thing I really appreciated in the story was that Miss Morgan, who plays the role of villainess, wasn’t overdone. She was portrayed with just the right balance of unlikeable while still being believable that Anthony would be pursuing her for so long without suspecting her true motives. The personalities of the family members and their dynamics were complex without being complicated, and added depth to the story and aided in showing more layers of Anthony and Patience. Overall this story was highly entertaining and had such a satisfying resolution and happy ending. One of my favorites of the year and I'll definitely be re-reading it in the future. Highly recommend!!!

I can’t love this series more 🥺🥺

And I know (I KNOW) I’m going to love Lord Bryant in the next one but can we talk about Anthony and his lists? ♥️ I might be slightly in love with him.

This slowburn HR was off the charts cute!

I loved this book! I loved the writing, the voice, the romance, and of course, the characters.

But here's what impressed me more than anything: I love that this book included a heroine who gets herself into awkward, funny and unique scenarios without it feeling unbelievable or like I'm reading a screwball comedy. In some other stories with funny situations comparable to the multiple "charades" Patience finds herself embroiled in, they play out in such an over-the-top and/or unbelievable way that I kind of find myself rolling my eyes or feeling like the author was trying too hard. haha! But in this book, with each hilarious scrape Patience, together with Anthony, found herself in throughout the story, I was always fully invested and along for the ride. And each comedic or awkward situation pushed the story forward rather than feeling like something forced. I loved how unique the plotline was, but yet how believable. I laughed and swooned and at one point, even teared up in a scene between Anthony and his father!

So yeah, I'm a huge fan of this book and I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for whatever Esther Hatch writes next.

Oh how I loved this book! I absolutely adored it! I smiled and giggled and sighed... A LOT! One of my daughters won an ARC of the book a couple months ago and has read it multiple times already and kept telling me that I needed to read it soon. Another daughter read it, and loved it so much that she also reread it multiple times. So then I had two people telling me that I needed to read it now! That's a lot of pressure. ;-) Well, I finally got to it in my reading list and I wish I could go back and have read it earlier. Lol! But I know this is one that I will definitely go back and reread and enjoy every time I do. Plus, I'll be recommending it to all of my friends.

Lady Patience was a hoot! She's one of those characters that you can't help but enjoy and feel connected to. I loved her desire to prove herself useful and the measures she takes to do so. I can understand her brother Nicholas's frustrations and hopes to help her learn to be a little more thoughtful before acting. But I can also see her desire and need to find joy and comfort in learning and doing.

What happens when a Lady tries to act as a maid? Lots of funny moments! Her trying to "wax" the furniture had me giggling. Trying to properly light a fire...*smolder*. But her charade within her charade was perfect! A job that she could do without a second thought.

I loved her self reflection moments. She was a normal (ok she was a lady but when I say normal, I'm meaning she has dreams and hopes and desires just like every other female or male or human) girl who just wanted to feel like she mattered and that she could do something simple but important and feel confident in that. When she messed up or was asked to do something she tried hard to think about it and what it would mean if she did or didn't do it. Or if she did, what the consequences would be. Even in her somewhat charge ahead and joyous love of life moments.

There are several fabulous characters in this book. I loved Patience but I also loved her brother Nicholas, Miss Smith, Anthony, and Lord Bryant (I'm throwing out a request here for his book...pretty please Esther Hatch...I'd love to know his story!) and Miss Morgan (although some of you might disagree with me for calling her a fabulous character, I think she was great and played her part perfectly even if I'm not her biggest fan (or not her fan at all)). And how everything unravelled and was put back together was great! I laughed and swooned! *Happy Sigh*

This was most definitely another win for me from this author! And one I can't wait to tell my friends to read (if my daughters haven't already). I've loved all of her books but this one takes the number one spot as my favorite of them all.

Content: Clean. Some kissing but nothing further.

I received a copy from the publisher, Covenant Communications, via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

Oh My! I loved this one! SO good. Esther writes the best characters. This is not a book I would normally enjoy. A lady pretending to be a maid, falling for the man of the house. Just not my thing, it's amazing how a good author can take any time period or idea or old used up book line and make it new and fun! Patience is a fun, vivacious, naive, innocent young lady who I grew to adore! She was perfect for our stiff, unyielding leading man. The flow of the book and the supporting characters made this even better. We get another glimpse into Lord Bryants life! His story must be coming! This is a sweet proper romance full of fun witty banter and amazing tension! My heart was pounding as these two finally found their way. Thank you Esther! Loved this one!

This novel had a few cute moments, but ultimately I found it very difficult to suspend disbelief. The plot lacked the support it needed to feel plausible, even for a Regency romance. The character motivation seemed flimsy.
When Lady Patience is told by her brother that she's flighty and irresponsible, she decides that the best way to make him change his mind is to go work for a month as a maid in the household of his former commanding officer. The commanding officer isn't at home, but his son Anthony is. Anthony soon recruits Patience for a charade of his own--to pretend to be a fashionable lady he can court, in the hopes that it will move forward the courtship he's been working on for two years with another lady. Unfortunately, it's hard to believe as a reader that either of their charades were really necessary. Patience comes off as naive, and Anthony comes off as gullible.

I adored Esther Hatch’s A Proper Scandal so was eagerly anticipating this companion book, and am thrilled to say I wasn’t disappointed. Like its predecessor, A Proper Charade was both incredibly fun and utterly romantic. I was immediately sucked into the plot of a determined daughter of a duke eager to prove herself by pretending to be a maid for the rather quirky and serious son of a General. Yes, the story is as wonderful as it sounds.

A Proper Charade was both lighthearted and deep, full of plenty of chemistry, growth, tension, and adorable romance. The humor was just right for me—the characters find themselves in amusing situations and have plenty of back-and-forth banter, without it being over the top or silly, simply lighthearted and fun. It was delightful watching Patience trying to be a maid, Anthony attempting his elaborate charade of having his ‘maid’ impersonate a lady, and having all their carefully laid plans take on a life of their own, the most unexpected result being their falling in love despite their best intentions.

Not only was the plot thoroughly engaging and kept me eagerly reading to find out how it’d all unfold, but I adored the characters. Patience is a vivacious yet sweet woman who was the perfect foil for our honorable yet slightly stuffy hero, Anthony, whom I also adored (I usually fall for the serious yet swoony heroes). Together they brought out the best in each other and helped one another grow—Anthony helped ground Patience, while she helped him learn to have fun and feel more joy in his life. I loved watching them come together.

In the end, I adored A Proper Charade. The romance was beautiful and the story delightful. I hope there are many more wonderful stories to come in this series as I’m not ready to say goodbye to these characters. While I’m not too interested in Lord Bryant’s story (rakes and widowers are my two least favorite types of heroes, and he so happens to be both), I’d love a story about Patience’s brother Nicholas or Nathaniel Barton’s sister, Diana. In the meantime, I’m excited to reread both this and A Proper Scandal to once again immerse myself in Esther Hatch’s romantic and thoroughly enjoyable stories.

What a wonderfully fun story. Lady Patience Kendrick is anything but patient and some around her may find they need patience to deal with her. She tends to speak her mind, and doesn't always act like the lady she's been raised to be which gets her into some awkward, but funny situations. The family has been in mourning for two years following the death of her father. After another row with her brother Nicholas about her inappropriate behavior for a lady, and that she wouldn't have the opportunity to be "cured of any frivolousness" like he had when he joined the army, Patience comes up with a plan to do just that. She'll get a position as a maid in the home of General Woodsworth, the man Nicholas served under when he was in the army.

Besides loving the gorgeous cover, I loved reading about Patience's adventures while working in the Woodsworth household. Needless to say she wasn't a very good maid, but she was much better working with the children. When Patience agrees to Harry Woodsworth's plan it reminded me of the movie Victor/Victoria--Julie Andrews' character pretends to be a man, impersonating a woman.

Patience was much better suited to Anthony than the snooty Miss Morgan was. She didn't really want Anthony, and was stringing him along waiting for his father to receive a title. When that happened her true nature was revealed. Patience brings out the true Anthony who wasn't as boring as he first appeared to be, they make such a fun couple. I loved the part the book The Ugly Duckling plays in this story.

This is part of the The Proper series, but each book is a standalone. I received a complimentary copy from Covenant Communications and NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

I think that this book could be considered a case-study of the meaning of a charade. There were several centering around one specific.

Lady Patience Kendrick wants to be taken seriously. She wants to experience life and have different experiences that those that are provided to her as the sister of a Duke. Her plan is to become a maid in the household of her the General her older brother served under. The unlocks so many possibilities for humor, mischief, and general mayhem. There are many moments that either make you laugh out loud or want to duck and take cover for the embarrassment that is about to ensue.

The characters of Patience and Anthony were fantastic. They bring out the better attributes in each other. They embrace life in different ways but find that they have more in common than either imagined. Patience is fun and full of life, while Anthony is methodical and practical. When they come together to hatch a scheme and then build a relationship is a wonderful story.

There were a few characters that I didn't really care for (ahem...Miss Morgan). Patience also finds a reluctant ally in a well-know rake, Lord Bryant. Most of the characters are not exactly what they seem to be, which adds to the story.

If you are looking for a fun and clean regency romance, I would highly suggest this one.

You can be assured of one thing. This will be an enjoyable read. Esther Hatch has a way of light-heartedly telling a story, even one in which tender and emotive occurrences are playing out along side it. The dynamic between Anthony and Patience is spot on, and though they will both test the boundaries of proprietary - you’ll love them both very quickly.

I think the dialogue they share is one of my most favourite elements in this book. In addition, the scenes in which Patience shares with Lord Bryant are equally as engaging.

This book is the second in this “Proper” Series set in Victorian London, the first being a Proper Scandal. You do not need to read them in order and can be read completely as a stand alone.

I like that the story is written during this time frame and I love the humorous, fun writing style. Get this on your ‘want to read’ list!

Esther Hatch has proved herself to be the kind of author you can add to your auto-buy list. Her writing is always engaging and consistent.

This was a quirky, fun historical clean-romance. I loved Patience and her wit. She was so funny and honest. The H and h were so cute together. I loved them at the fireplace. It’s a HEA.
This is my first book by this author and I can’t wait to read another one.
It was a well developed story with sweet chemistry. And, I will say that this is a somewhat light, fun story. I didn’t have any nail biting moments or dramatic eye rolling. I just really enjoyed it.

This was a NETGALLEY gift and opinions were my own. I’ve given an honest review.

"Lady Patience Kendrick was born to a life of privilege, and with the London Season looming, she finds herself facing unprecedented pressure to adhere to the rules of society. Unfortunately, the free-spirited young woman is anything but proper. Patience's elder brother, a former military man, bemoans his sister's antics - but when he accuses her of incurable frivolity, it is simply more than she can bear. Determined to prove her brother wrong, Patience undertakes a drastic experiment: she will disguise herself as a maid and demonstrate her ability to work as hard as anyone.

Taken on as household staff by her brother's former general, Patience soon learns that willingness and ability are two very different things. While her plan sounded promising in theory, the reality is that she is out of her depth - and the irresistibly charming son of the house isn't helping matters. Patience soon finds herself embroiled in a charade far more complicated that she imagined. With both her pride and her heart at stake, she is determined to prove her brother wrong - even as her plans spiral delightfully out of control."

A Proper Charade is a clean historical romance by Esther Hatch and has an absolutely gorgeous cover.

I loved this book and the characters so much. It's a sweet story with many amusing moments along the way. I mean sure, on the surface the premise of a high born lady sneaking away to disguise herself as a servant in a household's saff to prove herself sounds quite unbelievable on the surface, but it's so well-written and the characters so great. As you read all that fades away and you can't picture the story going any other way.

Patience is determined to prove herself and mainly just proves that she's not a very good maid, but she's not afraid to try. She's not the most adept at subterfuge, in fact she is virtually incapable of lying, which is unfortunate for her considering the plan she has set for herself.

Anthony, the dear man. With all his list making, he was a man after my own heart. He's a bit stuffy and serious, but with a touch of obliviousness and all his planning and list making? I swoon. I adored Anthony's character and am very glad that he came to his senses about his original plan before it was too late.

I have read a few of Esther Hatch's books now and have enjoyed all of them, so I recommend A Proper Charade as well as her other writings. I'll be keeping an eye out for any new books from her and will be going back to read any that I have missed.

A Proper Charade was so good guys!! I loved it. I have to say when I saw the word Christian in the tags, I was a little unsure and worried because the only other 'christian' romance I've ever tried before I didn't end up liking and I have to say other than not having any smut, this book didn't feel religious or anything so don't be scared like I was lol.

Anyway, A Proper Charade follows Lady Patience as she pretends to be a maid to prove that she can learn to be useful just like her brother was when he went into the army for two years. Now that he's the Lord after their father's death, things aren't the same as they try to figure out their roles. Patience knew nothing of being a servant but she learned slowly and surely. However, when the son of her brother's General asks her to pretend to be a Lady and go with him at a ball, she's thrown back into her own world while still disguising herself.

Yes, the plot is unbelievable but honestly, I didn't care one bit. It was so sweet and I loved the romance and seeing them together as they develop feelings for each other. Overall, this book made me happy. Pure and simple. It put a smile on my face and I had a great time listening to the audio (which I recommend, by the way).

I couldn't get past the part where the h, the sister of a Duke, pretends to be a maid in the H's military household, and no one even notices that she has an aristocratic bearing, and upper class accent. I mean, she was simply unbelievable as the maid.

The writing itself is fast-paced and enjoyable, but I simply couldn't relate to Patience or Anthony, who seems "suprised" that the "maid" talks to him like his equal, but doesn't probe this wierdness further.

So...don’t pick up this book for a deep read. Pick it up if you want something silly, a bit unbelievable but I’m all the right ways. It doesn’t pretend to be serious. It’s goofy from the beginning and makes for a delightful escape read.

A PROPER CHARADE is a story full of humorous predicaments, a heroine that will make readers smile, and hero that will tug on the heart, and a sweet romance with a few swoon-worthy moments. Highly recommended to sweet historical romance fans!

This story was so much fun! It was exactly what I needed. Patience is a bundle of joy. I don't know how you could not like her. She can't contain her optimism for life and wanting to enjoy it even if it's not within society's expectations. Her brother doesn't think she's serious enough, that she's too spontaneous and frivolous, and basically gives up on her acting as he thinks she should, so she comes up with a plan and then carries it out, much to this reader's entertainment. Anthony is a planner. He's planned out for two years who he would marry and how he would achieve what he wants. I wouldn't say he's a pessimist, but more of a realist. He thinks he still needs to earn his father's good opinion and so he is doing all he can to make him proud. I couldn't help falling in love with his character as well. The two of them were quite a pair! They balance each other out and also challenge the other. I loved how Patience totally befuddled Anthony and how Anthony steadied Patience. Their banter as well as any dialogue (internal thoughts included) from Patience made me smile or laugh the whole way through this story. The romance was also very sweet and enjoyable. I also really liked some of the side characters, like Anthony's sister and her children, and Lord Bryant (who I remember from the previous story and who I feel should eventually get his own story).

I had very little to complain about in this story. There was one point I felt a particular charade was a bit to unrealistic (literally a paragraph long) and the ending might have been a touch too sweetly drawn out, but that's it. Very minor and nothing that impacted my enjoyment of this story.

In the end, was it what I wished for? This story was perfectly timed. It was fun, sweet, with plenty to make you laugh, and wonderful characters. If you're a sweet historical romance fan, definitely grab this one!

I was thrilled to receive an early copy of A Proper Charade, that I might have done a happy dance when it came in the mail! Esther Hatch is known for her hilarious banter, great chemistry, and the awkward situations that her characters find themselves due to their own decisions. A Proper charade has all of these things and might be her most humorous book yet. Lady Patience Kendrick is anything but patient and takes matters into her own hands by becoming a maid in General Woodsworths home, a man whom her brother most fervently revers. She then becomes entangled with the general's serious, analytical son and the two opposites manage to bring out the best in one another.

This was a great story that made me laugh, smile and one that was a perfect fit for a nice weekend. Although A Proper Scandal still might be my favorite *sorry I'm just team Nathaniel Barton*, this book was such a fun read with quirky characters, romantic moments and silliness and will keep you entertained for hours! 4.5 STARS.

**also I need a book about Lord Bryant because I am a SUCKER for misunderstood characters.

I listened to this as an audiobook and had trouble putting it down. The plot was unconventional with Lady Patience, the sister of a Duke masquerading as a maid. The plot thickens when her employer asks her to pretend to be a lady at some social engagements with him. Lots of humor, great chemistry, and many chances for things to go wrong! I loved seeing Patience’s effect on Anthony and his household.

This was such a delightful book! Like, everything about it was delightful and pleasing and so fun to read. (**gushing ahead :p**) Not to mention how many times it got me laughing from Patience's funny charade to Anthony's super-serious duck smile (you'll know what I mean when you read the book), and to little Harry and Augusta's cutie personalities! I just couldn't put the book down! I had to read the next Patience-Anthony moments, and when that wonderful first-kiss scene appeared so perfectly in the right time? It was pure AHHHHH-EEEE-ness. XD

There's just nothing not to love about Patience! She's a character so fun to be around, and she was hilarious with such a natural, unforced vibrancy! Oh. And friends, Anthony's serious and pragmatic personality was just so 😍😍😍 all the time. Give me a character who makes lists and plans a whole timeline for an engagement leading up to a wedding, and I'll be yours forevah.

So, with that gushing finally put out there because I couldn't stop myself there for a moment, A Proper Charade was just so fantastic! It was highly entertaining with lovable characters, loads of funny moments, and a super super CUTE romance. Oh, and it has a beautiful cover too! 😋

Another fantastic proper scandal!

I don't know why I waited so long to read this book, other than there are just too many books and so little time. Hatch writes a darling, unconventional story that captivated me from the very first page.

Patience is a stifled young lady and hatches a hair-brained plan to pose as a maid for one month in her older brother's general's home. From the moment she steps into this other world, mishaps and predicaments, along with humor and swoon, abound.

I loved Patience as a character. She was so cheerfully unpredictable and optimistic, which made for a great time as she stepped into yet another charade. The layers were delightful and very entertaining. Anthony is much more serious, yet Patience managed to unraveled his uptight persona with her winsome personality. Separately they're each likable in their own rights, but together, they're wonderful.

Hatch does a fantastic job with this story. The romance is sweet with great sparks and banter. There are so many facets to so many of the characters and each nuance plays a part in the plan in some way. I adored everything about it and can't wait for another proper scandal!
