On a summer’s day in 1998, a savage crime at an isolated Lakeland beauty spot leaves three dead. The case has gone unsolved ever since. The only witness is an amnesiac with a bullet lodged in her brain.
The bullet is a ticking time bomb that could kill Butterfly at any moment. Jack is afraid for her. But should he be afraid of her? She’s been suffering from violent mood swings. Sometimes she acts like a completely different person.
Butterfly is obsessed with the case. But how can she hope to succeed where the police have failed? The answer might be locked within the darkest recesses of her damaged mind. Or maybe the driver of the car that’s been following her holds the key to the mystery.
Either way, the truth may well cost Butterfly her new family, her sanity and her life.
Ben Cheetham is an award-winning writer and Pushcart Prize nominee. His writing spans the genres, from horror and sci-fi to literary fiction, but he has a passion for dark, gritty crime fiction. His short stories have been published in Swill Magazine, The Fiction Desk, Deadcore (Comet Press), The London Magazine, The Willisden Herald New Short Stories 3, The Grist Anthology of New Writing, Dream Catcher, Staple, Fast Forward: A Collection of Flash Fiction, Voice From The Planet (Harvard Square Editions), The Momaya Annual Review, Transmission, The Chaffey Review, and numerous other magazines.
Ben lives in Sheffield, UK, where - when he's not chasing around after his two-year old son - he spends most of his time locked away in his study racking his brain for the next paragraph, the next sentence, the next word.
Maybe it’s not a good advice to be emotional in the job, but this detective married the victim he rescued in Book 2. In Book 3, his wife found out her past through a series of adventure, two decades later.
The author, as I’ve mentioned before, is adept at recognizing griefs, it’s all over the pages. The emotions are always raw and whenever it is broken into, it delves into the darker side of the mind. I don’t know how he does it, only two ways are possible; one is to have experienced the heartbreak himself or two, a vivid imagination.
In Book 1, the detective dealt with his own demons, the regrets with his first wife, apparently suicide. Then the emotions are carried through to the sequels.
I like his writing. I’ll be reading more from this author.
This was a disappointing read for me. It started out well but then drifted into the mundane. The main characters were like something out of central casting. The lead female character having the name of Butterfly - I ask you. The main theme of the plot, revenge for the murder and rape of her parents and sister was good but, all the in between stuff about her forgotten criminal past just deflected from the plot. Her husband and his friend, both detective inspectors, were unreal and totally unbelievable. Her former, and forgotten lover, likewise. I know this story received some high scores but, for me, it just didn't do it.
Butterfly is really under pressure, not knowing who killed her family, and her own past as adult coming to haunt you. While I enjoyed the book, I do really wonder how realistic it in fact is, because the ending does not sound like it is very likely to happen. But if you are just enjoying for a thriller to read in your free time, with good plot, I think this one is up to it.
I read all three books in the series and they were all great! The first book had me hooked. I like when a book can take you into a story that has you rooting for some of the characters. Even if it doesn't end the way you expected. Sometimes those are the best books .
Wow this is one of those books you want to finish , to see what happens , but dread finishing it because it's so good . 1st one I've read by Ben cheetham . Definitely won't be the last . Loved every minute . A must read book .
Just finished the third book in jack anderson series. I don’t know how i found this author but now that I have, i will read the rest of his other books. Loved the series, especially since it kept me wondering until the end. Soo good. Highly recommend.
Each page left you wanting more. Great characters. Great settings. Excellent plot. Overall, I really enjoyed this suspenseful story of love, mystery, and thrilling anticipation of what will happen next.
This book was a great read, the twists and turns really kept me interested. I actually didn’t see one of the last twists coming, but that’s what made the book such a page turner.
The Jack Anderson series is a must read collection! I have read all three books back to back and while they are not the normal gore filled books I normally read/enjoy I’m so glad I discovered them! All three books on the series have kept me wanting more, the characters are all believable and the story is well written! Would love to see another book added to the series one day
He's only gone and done it again....I read this in less than a day, I just couldn't put it down. Totally gripped throughout. Yet again, extremely well written with a brilliant plot. I absolutely love the character Jack Anderson. Hopefully there'll be another one to look forward to. They just keep on getting better and better.
I've read all of the 'Jack Anderson' series and I'm working my way through Ben's other books. They're just equally brilliant. Ben has definitely become one of my favourite authors. He has such a knack of captivating me as I always struggle to put them down. I would highly recommend reading.
I read Lost Angel by this author and was so captivated my that book that I immediately downloaded this one. Very disappointed. So many details in the story not addressed or simply did not make sense. Was bored with it and struggled to finish it. I am not going to give up on B. C. Yet .
I liked the book.It kept my interest,it took me a bit to get into the story, but may have been more me Not necessary to remember read the other jack Anderson books, but it might be helpful
Jack Anderson back again - YAY! Now I can see why BC didn't elaborate Butterfly's story in "Who is She?" Did NOT see the ending coming but I'd like to know more about Io and how that relationship came about. As per usual (getting to the stage I take this for granted) dreadful editing.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book which is the third in the series and I certainly didn't see the end result coming. Ben Sheehan is a brilliant writer and I've never been disappointed with any of his books and this one is no different. Thoroughly recommend it.
I just loved this book. Being a bookaholic I try to keep the ratings real. This book is amazing, and by the way Ben your picture reminded me of Benedict Cumberbatch. Just, please, keep on writing..... Pat Banks
This book will grab you from the beginning, alltho in the beginning I got confused for awhile. It was a great who did it story I couldn't figure out who the killerwas until the very end.
Fantastic read! Enjoyed the twist and turns. I haven't read the previous book so I was at first a little lost but quickly picked up the story line. Thank you for an excellent book.
Yeah I liked this book. Very entertaining. I thought it should have been better, especially with the author Ben Cheetham, All in all a good read. Thanks Ben📕👍
