Ethan a young boy waiting away from the group of people during a church social, just waiting for the food the be served up. In torn dirty clothes alone. He watches other children playing by the river he noticed a young girl who looks lonely and is also a little dirty, she wanders into the river and he smiles as he sees the smile on her face. She falls into the river and he starts yelling and runs to pull the girl out. The people accused him of ruff play causing her to drown. He runs away After pulling her out, but thinks she is dead.

Years later Elvira and Her father are struggling because her father is a drunk and gambler. He has done the unthinkable. Now Elvira must go away from home to her grandfather.
When she arrives she is taken to a hotel and told to have a bath. Then ushered into a church to be married to Ethan.

Very good story. I enjoyed reading this book.

This story took me a long to read and I was not enchanted by either the heroine or the hero. Sometimes there is something about being too rebellious that begins to be too much, and times when standing your ground is not in your best interest. The problem with this story is someone should have sat her down and told her what was going instead of trying to keep her innocent. With the right information, this girl would have made the right decisions and tried to make the marriage work. Instead, we have one messed up relationship, and a woman where she should be, because she is headstrong and doesn't listen to anyone, because she is ignorant of the situation. I really wasn't impressed with this story.

The past meets the future

I received an ARC of this book from the author, Carol Colyer, and this is my voluntary and honest review. I loved this great adventure book. Elvira was forced to marry Ethan to save her from a gang with a mean leader when her Father lost a poker game and Elvira was the prize. Thankfully, Ethan was an honorable man who just wanted keep Elvira safe and happy. The story really got exciting when the gang found Elvira. Did they get her away from Ethan or was Ethan successful in keeping her safe? You will have to read the book to find out. I highly recommend it.

Not a bad story but did not quiet hold my attention. I found the story seemed to waffle on a bit which made me skip pages etc. She is married as a means of protection as her father had gamble away everything to outlaws including her. The person she marries, not by choice, is the man who as a boy had saved her life when she nearly drowned. He has no idea this is the case until towards the end. He had led a lonely life and all of a sudden he is made to marry this lady or lose his farm. HEA ending

Great Read

A wonderful story of life’s struggles and finding love that really began when Elvira and Ethan were young children. The sorrow and loneliness Ethan felt through the years in remembering the little girl he couldn’t save. However, destiny brought her back into his life and he had to save her again but this time he knew it. His heart and soul was mended as well as Elvira’s in forgiving her dad from gambling her away.

Truly excellent piece.
This tale has some heart-retching moments for Elvira and Ethan. The author has written this one with such drama and turmoil showing how these characters struggle with misunderstandings yet there is love underneath it all just waiting. I thought this was a very moving story about a marriage of convenience, about a man’s guilt, and forgiveness given. Wonderful and engaging piece with truly outstanding characters I highly recommend it.

Suspense and action with several turns that leaves you in suspense.

Elvira really is a better rancher than a woman thanks to her dad leaving her on her own so much. Ethan had a lot of pain from his past and was more of a loner. Put the 2 together after a few twists of fate and you have a lot of fuss and action. Trying to save Elvira is like pulling teeth because she doesn't realize she is in danger. Very good story.

Elvira Wamsley lives with her father and runs the ranch. Her father takes up gambling and drinking when he loses his wife and leaves Elvira to maintain the ranch and all duties of it while he mourns in his own way. When he comes home and tells her he's lost the ranch it only gets worse. She gets shipped to her Grandfather she hasn't seen since a child and her life's path begins to spiral out of her control. What a wild and entertaining read!

It is hard to believe a father could use his daughter as collateral for a bet, but this is the position that Elvira finds herself. Suddenly shipped off to a grandfather she barely knows, then married to a stranger as soon as she arrived. This book has well developed characters, plenty of action and an interesting story line. I couldn’t stop reading. I recommend this book.

A wonderful story

A father with a drinking and gambling habit is in over his head gambling with a gang of outlaws. When he loses his spirited daughter in a game to the outlaws, he tries to save her by sending her to her grandfather to be married to a less than willing stranger. This started a very emotional adventure. The characters were believable and the story was engaging.

Honesty is the best policy

Elvira's father gambled and lost her in a card game as well as everything he own. The man only wanted Elvira. She was sent away to her grandfather, who married her to a man who owed him money. You'll have to read this to see how she took the news as well how the winner of the card game handled this trick.

A terrible secret and a marriage to a stranger is Elvira's future. The storyline is full of adventure, surprises, deception, and danger. I couldn't wait to see what would happen next.

The ending wrapped everything up nicely in a delightful and satisfying way. Another great read and highly recommended.

A father's careless gambling and a grandfather's determination spin Elvira's life out of control.

Elvira is not your average shrinking violet as her unexpected husband soon finds out. Ethan finds out that keeping Elvira happy would take more than house and home! There is real danger for this young bride everywhere she turns but is sure to find the answers to her future.
