How to Ruin Your Ex's Wedding

Rate this book
I shoot war zones, not nuptials.

But when my ex-wife lands a starring role in the wedding of the year, it’s tempting to change things up a bit.

Who’s better than me to follow her around before and during the big day, capturing every picturesque moment, snapping every detail as they join together in wedlock? No one.

Not to mention, she still owes me for destroying my prized vintage camera during our divorce.

As the saying goes, revenge is a dish best served cold.

Denise has been reading since before she could talk. And to this day, escaping into a book is her go-to activity before anything else.

She likes to write about sassy women and semi-flawed alpha-esque men (hard on the outside and just a little soft on the inside.)  Denise’s female characters always have strong friendships, potty mouths, and like to drink—a lot.

Denise is loyal to a fault, a bit too sarcastic, blindingly optimistic, and pretty freakin’ happy with life overall. If she couldn't be a writer, she'd be a singer in a classic rock band. Right after she learned to carry a tune. She has more purses than days in the month, an obsession with colored ink pens, and a slightly unhealthy bracelet habit.

Home is in the Pacific Northwest where she lives with six Siberian Huskies and a husband (BW) who has the patience and tolerance of a saint. And, lest she forget, Denise also lives with too many to count characters inside her head, who will eventually have their stories told.

OMG, I loved this book. Pax and Tabatha were so great together. They got married young and when he was asked if he would save her from a zombie apocalypse, he said no and that just set it off. 10 years later, they have moved on or so they think. Tabatha is engaged to Hunter who is such a douche nozzle. He is trying to change her and she is letting him. That all starts to change when Pax reenters her life as their wedding photographer. This story was so good. It had everything – romance, humor, and heat. You will not be disappointed when you pick this book up. All I can say is be prepared to fall in love with Tabatha and Pax.

I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

This book was fun and laugh out loud funny! Completely nonsensical and unrealistic, but I enjoyed it. Pax and Tabatha used to be married at a young age but had a huge fight broadcasted live for thousands of people to see. Tabatha's a well-known actress and Pax is an award-winning photographer. Anyways, the all-important and pertinent question that single-handedly destroyed their marriage, with collusion from the producers, was this:

- Would you die to save your significant other in a zombie apocalypse?

By now you can infer that Pax gave the wrong answer and things escalated from there with a broken camera, torn YSL dress, and a certain peeing incident. 😂🤣

After their divorce and 10 years later, Tabatha is getting married again to an uber-wealthy tech guy and needs a photographer to take her wedding photos. Guess who's the photographer?! No surprise it's Pax! Hunter, Tabby's fiance, and soon-to-be groom doesn't know who Pax is and unknowingly hires him. Pax agrees because he wants to embarrass his former wife (even though he's still not quite over her and kinda still loves her). With the help of a meddling friend, Gregor, Pax will try his best to ruin Tabby's wedding, but this is a romance and you can probably guess how everything ends. The predictability does not detract from my enjoyment of this book and the ending was sweet.

Denise Wells's writing is effortlessly simple but never boring. The writing style is warm and humorous. She includes many lovable and funny side characters, like Gregor and Crystal. Tabby's childhood and difficult relationship with her mother/isolation due to fame, gave her a little more depth, however, this book is a romantic comedy with more happy moments than sad ones. There is no cheating and one could classify this as a slow burn. It's low on angst, and I'd definitely recommend reading this after a heavy or emotional read.

The only drawback for me was Hunter. He's not completely villainous, but he is a very pretentious software developer guy (so villainous if you don't like a more boring, watered-down Elon Musk/Jeff Bezos type). I don't understand why Tabby would marry this guy because they had no chemistry. I think it would have been more interesting (+ more drama) if he was a better man and Pax+Tabby would have had to deal with a bigger fallout to get together. Overall, this was a fun second-chance romance and Pax being horrible at golf gives me clear skin from how much I laughed.

I saw this book come up on my timeline and I'm all about formerly married couples and second chances. It was funny without trying too hard which I love. And the male POV had me sniggering throughout the book. I love it when a book surprises me. :)

HOW TO RUIN YOUR EX’S WEDDING by Denise Well is an enjoyable and often laugh-out-loud second chance romance. Pax and Tabatha are relatively even-keeled but when they cross paths it’s sheer destruction. They love each other; they hate each other. It really is as complicated and simple as that.

For me, Pax was the star of the book. I’d describe him as a beta hero with some alpha tendencies. He’s comfortable talking about his feelings with his best friend, he is not beneath sabotaging his ex-wife’s upcoming wedding, and nor is he beneath acting a tad silly at times. He is also sincere and open to questioning his beliefs in order to grow.

I do need to confess that the book did not create a good first impression. The prologue was quite far-fetched, the main characters really were so horrible that I closed the book and left it for a few days. The characters that we meet in Chapter One, which takes place ten years after the prologue are much more interesting.

If you’re after a fun read that has a touch of soberness, this would tick the box.

The first scene is hilarious, would you save yourself or your loved one in a zombie attack?
So funny, the reasoning.
10 years separation.
During that time both have been with others.
About the Hero.
It’s been ten years since we were together. It’s not like I haven’t seen other people. "I’ve had plenty of sex, plenty of dates, plenty of action. It’s possible that none of them measured up.
It’s not for lack of trying on my part. I am very active in my attempts to get over my ex."
There are intimate scenes with others for both of them, not very flattering.
They do still have feelings for each other, love/hate.
No cheating.
HEA.

I'll be very honest! This book is hilarious and ridiculous, I really enjoyed most of It! I loved the fact this didn't started as a corny love story with him pining for her and trying to get her back, he's so annoying that is hysterical! But I must say that I really hated Tabatha, can't stand her at all, she's selfish, selfabsorb, melodramatic, naive and has serious identity issues, I hate her so much that if the zombies come, I'll TOTALLY would sacrifice her! I hated Hunter too, he reminded me a lot of Armstrong Moorehead (Hooking Up by Helena Hunting), he clearly needs a 50's wife not a modern one, but it really wasn't the only one at fault in this scenario, is partly her fault for the lie she sold him, still, what he did at the end was cowardice! Now with Pax, I loved his attitude, he was responsible for 95% of the funny in this book, but I think he is really stupid for still wanting to be with her after the way she was with him! I also didn't like at all the way they got together, it felt like she took Pax by default, just a second choice, instead of choosing to be with him! I'll give it 4 stars because it really was that funny even if I really hated the girl!

Funny ebook about a divorced couple who married too young. They were a reality show couple when it all got away from them. After 10 years she is ready to move on. Her fiance is a tech millionaire, but her ex gets involved and her fiance turns out to be too demanding for her. Lots of funny lines. A couple of very hot scenes.

We’ve all sat around with our significant other and asked the dreaded question in the event of a zombie apocalypse will you sacrifice me or save me. Most men will go with the save you answer to save face. Let’s face it no one likes a hypothetical situation to become a full-blown argument but that was the case of Pax and Tabitha. Even one better was that their argument was televised for their reality show. It was messy It was epic and some prized possessions were destroyed.

Pax knew he loved Tabitha since she found herself in his class. He knew they were messy, but it was a great love. Pax is a famed war photographer repeatedly putting himself on the front line, but he loves it. When the fight heard around the world ended in angry hate sex and ended their marriage, he devotes himself to his job. What no one knows but his friend Gregor is that under a disguise Pax also moonlights as a wedding photographer to the stars and when a high-profile clientele offer comes across his desk he figures sure why not he’s on a lull with work. You can kind of guess who it is and it’s been ten years in the making but Pax is about to take Tabitha down.

Tabitha is an out of work actress which was her decision, but she runs a successful clothing and makeup line. She has done an about face from when she was married to Pax. She is even tempered and is basically acting her part as Hunter’s future wife. She is weeks away from the wedding and it seems only Hunter and their wedding coordinator is making the decisions and she’s just fine with that. Tabitha doesn’t do well with idle time and when the role of a lifetime lands in her lap she jumps at it. Slowly she becomes the old Tabitha. The sure of herself and her place is life Tabs and Hunter hates it with a passion. When she finds out who the wedding photographer is she explodes and old Tabs comes out to play.

Hunter, I swear I wanted to drop several computers on your software developer head. He’s pretentious, ostentatious and every other word you can think of. I just knew he was going to slowly descend into jerkoff territory. I kind of felt bad for Tabitha because at her core she’s an actor and acclimates to her surroundings and never truly is herself. I do love her best friend and agent and even her makeup artist. Pax well just picturing him on that moped gave me life! It was rather funny. I’m glad I got to read this fun second chance romance.

Oh my Lawd, this story was out of control hilarious, and my stomach muscles still ache from all the laughter from deep down. It all starts with an all important question when Pax & Tabitha were young married folks; "In the event of a zombie apocalypse, would you sacrifice or save me?" After you get past the ridiculous question, you would think the answer would be easy for married folks right?! You would be wrong, and it leads to them getting a divorce, after the EPIC & INSANE fight afterwards. To make matter worse, it was all televised for their reality TV show, so not sure why a certain man wouldn't just answer with save her. Now, this is why I had issues with Tabitha from the get go, because for real, who gets that pissed over a hypothetical situation leading to ending a marriage?! I know they were younger but still, and Pax certainly didn't help by not answering right in the first place. Anyway fast forward 10 years, and Tabitha is getting married again which leads to Pax's alter ego to be hired as photographer. Tabitha has no clue that it's her ex-husband, and he decides to say yes, so he can get some revenge on her for destroying his beloved grandfather's camera. Let the shenanigans commence, and boy did they, as Pax was simply HILARIOUS with his actions. Oh & let me talk about the names he came up for Tabitha's douchebag fiance, who I didn't like at all, but those nicknames were off the charts hysterically funny. I know I keep talking about the humor, but this chaotic story was filled with a ton of laugh out loud moments which obviously highly entertained me. It doesn't take long before Pax realizes that he still loves Tabitha, so the story takes a turn. It took a while before I could honestly say I fell in love with Tabitha, but the brilliant Denise Wells got me there, which I didn't think she would. Anyway, if you want to know if these two get a second chance, one click this super fun & original second chance story that will make you laugh a ton! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!

What a delightful second-chance romance! And I absolutely loved that Pax and Tabatha’s story is not a traditional one.

A decade after their divorce, Pax is hired (as his secret alter ego) to photograph Tabatha’s wedding. He plans to use the opportunity to exact his revenge for her destroying his beloved grandfather’s camera during the blowout fight that led to their divorce. But as the weeks go on, Pax realizes that he’s still in love with his ex. Can he convince Tabby to give him a second chance before it’s too late?

Meanwhile, actress Tabby is engaged to tech genius Hunter, but constantly feels like she’s playing a part. Is she acting? The more time she spends with Pax, the more she realizes that she’s more her true self around him than she is around her fiancé.

Despite the chemistry that still sizzles between them, nothing happens between Tabs and Pax until she’s broken things off with Hunter. It’s a slow burn for them to reunite, but it was a fun ride to get there.

I will say, I was expecting some big dramatic moment to come when she shows him that she restored his grandfather’s ruined Pulitzer Prize-winning print, and he showed her the huge picture of her he keeps in his house. But neither picture were either mentioned a second time, and it was a bit disappointing.

How To Ruin Your Ex’s Wedding is full of fun moments, thoughts about young love, first love, and how people grow and change, but a soulmate can still be a soulmate even after a divorce.

Let me start this by saying that I love Denise Wells and her books.
I love her writing style, with the bit of humour in there, and of course the drinking LOL!!

This book missed the mark with me. I couldn’t connect with Tabatha in way cause she came across as a spoiled brat.
The way she treated Pax and got into the argument from the beginning with Zombies. Really? And then just the way she acted after that.
I think that’s why I couldn’t connect with her, and get into her side of the story. She was soooooo full of herself the whole way through.

Pax, however, I LOVED HIM!! I loved that he took no shit from Tab, and even when they “reconnected”, I loved how he went on with his life.
How he became someone else. Little does he know the wedding his just signed on for is for her. His ex wife. He wants REVENGE! And he wants it badly.

I did however enjoy Tab finding herself. She had been so lost for those 10 years and even though she had moved on, she became the old Tab again. Of course, Wimpycock didn’t like it one bit.

I really laughed so much at all the names that Pax gave Hunter. Killed me. I loved it.

Some of my fave quotes:
1. But I’m no there yet, mentally, at a boob-job. I mean, I prefer a larger dick, but I didn’t offer to get him an enlargement. - ROFL!!!
2. “No, I can’t marry Hunter. He won’t pound me against the wall.” - Don’t we all wish we could get pounded against the wall?

It's 12:44am and I am writing an AMAZON review. You wanna know why? Because I had to stay up.... I had to find out how it all went down between Tabs and Pax. I NEEDED to know. If you've read ANY of Denise Wells' books- you know she is the queen of sucking you into a story. She writes characters that you cannot help but root for, even if they are selfish, ridiculous, overly dramatic and flawed.... you find yourself relating. You suck in a breath when you finally realize that the guy you thought was innocent and so sweet, is actually a monster and disguises his intentions with compliments and "suggestions" (thank you Denise for the BLATANT warning for all women to stay away from such men). Then comes the "holy sh*t moment", when you realize what you're reading feels all too familiar, you start to think back and acknowledge "I know what that fight is like, cause I've had that fight." This is Denise's super power. She understands the dynamics of a relationship. How love does not always look pretty, how it can end poorly, how love sometimes does not equate to a sound relationship or marriage, and how love can evolve. How people can evolve.

She writes all our stories because it's our stories we want to hear (but dressed up as film goddesses and stupidly handsome ripped photographers). Read this. You won't regret it. I sure as F@%k didn't. Oh. And I paid full price. WORTH EVERY DAMN PENNY.

The love/hate and push/pull relationship that is Pax and Tabatha keep me glued to this romantic comedy. It was a very slow burn with lots of laughable moments and palpable sexual chemistry. Pax took his time realizing Tabatha was the love he let get away but once he did, he pulled out all the stops for a romantic grand gesture to win her back.

Tabatha's fiance provided quite few shake-my-head moments that cemented his douchebag status in my book and he earned every one of the nicknames Pax came up with.

This book also had a great cast of supporting characters who all injected their own personality into the stort. Pax has an amazing best friend, Gregor, who despite his huge size, seems to be as cuddly as a teddy bear. Tabatha has a great group of girls on her side as well.

How To Ruin Your Ex's Wedding was my first book by author Denise Wells. It was entertaining and funny but not as hilarious as I had anticipated. It still kept me interested and curious till the very end. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it or read more from her in the future. I'd especially be interested in reading more about both Gregor and Maisey.

This was a hilarious, quirky, second chance at love story. If you want to laugh until your side's hurt, read this!

Tabatha and Pax had a tumultuous marriage and divorced ten years ago. Now she is getting married to Hunter who is the complete opposite of Pax. Nouveau riche Hunter wants the best of the best so he unknowingly hired Pax's alter ego to take capture the wedding process. Hunter wants Gregor, Pax's bff and pro athlete/celebrity, to be included in the wedding process and he goes along with it but brings Pax as his plus one everywhere. Tabitha starts questioning her relationship with Hunter while Pax comes to the realization he never stopped loving her. He decides to stop their wedding and madly races to the venue only to find Hunter has dumped Tabatha. He immediately proposed but she says she needs time to think things through. This book was hilarious! And also sweet and fun and I loved the ending.
I enjoyed every moment of reading it. Pax was my favorite character with all his nicknames twisting around his semi-nemesis's last name. There was some laugh out loud moments with those, along with tons of creativity! I thought Tabitha's backstory and her being kind of famous was a great twist and so unusual! I liked that her fiance was kind of annoying, so we didn't love him or root for him to be with Tabby, but he wasn't made a into a total jerk or villain, that as a reader I wouldn't understand why she would be engaged to him in the first place. I enjoyed the secondary characters in both Pax & Tabby's friends! They were all adorable and added so much to the book. Tabby didn't trust herself and thought she needed her fiance's stability. When really she needed the love she felt with Pax... they just needed time to grow up (because their break-up story is pretty epic!!). Such a great read I'd recommend to anyone who wants friends, fun, chemistry and funny!

I have no words! Honestly, what is there to say but read/enjoy/devour this book. Parts of it is just mindblowing. How is it even possible to imagine such things? It's hilarious and utterly crazy. Fair warning; don't ever be on reality tv or discuss zombies if you want to stay married.

In my mind I have already started to cast my very own favourite movie stars. This is movie material, or a mini series or something. Starring some very big, famous GOT actors and throw in a few nerdy ones as well.

I'm in desperate need of some Champagne and a salad not drowned in oil. I crave cakes, and a few wedding venues and I need my photo taken everywhere I go, but please not when I have my cake. I need singing, dancing, beer drinking, bear hugging lovable friends and most of all, I think I need to swoon a little more before I move on to another book boyfriend.

Wow, this was a fantastic book. I give it a solid 5 stars. This is the first book I have read by Denise Wells and it will not be my last. I really hope she writes a series.
This is not your usual romance as Pax and Tabatha are divorced and reconciliation between them seems to be impossible. The plot is extremely well thought out and as you get deeper into the book you realize the depth of the characters behind the humor. The characters are fantastic. All of them. I hope there is going to be a book for each of them in the future, just not Hunter. I never want to read about him again. This book ticked all the boxes for me. I could not put it down. There is humor, excitement, hold your breath moments and hot chemistry with a great HEA. I recommend this book for adult readers.
I received this book as an ARC and it is a pleasure to leave my honest review.

It’s a rollercoaster for sure.

3.5 Stars.

I found myself rally liking the beginning, the prologue really set a good premise. Then it’s just faded away.

I wasn’t a fan of Tabatha, her interactions with all character, minus Hunter, were when I tolerated her.

Pax was the star of the show really. He was too cocky sometimes but he still had more growth and developmental the story than anyone else.

There were a couple points that were missed by the author in this story that could of given Tabatha more depth. The restoration of the portrait was a main one. The relationship with her mom. Even the forgiveness that happened between her and Pax. Everything was rushed and swept under the rug.

I didn’t find the story as funny as it was in the beginning.. this just wasn’t for me.

A wonderful entertaining, enjoyable second chance romance.  This amazing storyline had me addicted for the beginning to end with its sweet, interesting, quirky journey. A great read with realistic, fun way to describe these well developed characters while on the edge of my seat as the story progressed wondering what was gonna happen next. Pax and Tabatha had incredible chemistry that created explosive chemistry years before where Tabitha and Hunter were safe and he expresses his adoration numerous times. A fantastic ending with good epilogues would love a story or two from other characters specially Gregor. I voluntarily read and reviewed this beautifully written ARC from an amazing descriptive fun author.

My taste in stories is eclectic and sometimes just strange. For whatever reason, this one ticked all my boxes. I got similar vibes (though the styles are very different) to The Hating Game, which I also just adored.

Pax and Tabitha divorced years ago. She's getting remarried. He's a photographer. Who better to capture her wedding? He's looking for some revenge... at first. It's a nice touch that *spoilery* the new husband to be, Hunter, just isn't a likeable guy. It really helps the reader root for a rekindling of the relationship between Pax and Tabitha all the way through this funny, quirky version of a second-chance romance.

Highly recommend!

I enjoyed Pax and Tabs. They were destined to be together. I enjoyed their dialogue and their witty banter they had between each other. There was no chance she'd ever marry Hunter. The closer their wedding got, I couldn't stop reading it because Pax was on the war path to get his lady!
Reading it was an easy read. I liked how it flipped from Pax POV and Tabs POV. The story flowed so smoothly even when it switched from one person to the other. Half way, we meet Maisey and she's a sweet breath of fresh air. Crystal is a good friend and a friend that is truly needed. Gregor is an honest friend-its good that Pax had someone like Gregor keeping him in check-most of the time.

This was a fun, quirky read. You always have love for your "first everything". Time has away of altering your perception and feelings. Now that Tabitha is moving on and getting married again and Pax is inadvertently hired to photograph the event, both of them are starting to question the what if's.

This is a story of finding your passions and nurturing the relationships with those that support you and will call you on your crap. The humor isn't slapstick or over the top. This was an entertaining, enjoyable read.
