Ferido Einadi has worked at the heart of the Barin Alliance. As a Founding Senator, he’s supposed to be in a position to create the change the Alliance needs to improve life for all its citizens. Instead, he finds himself at odds with those in command, those who are desperate to control the Alliance and shape it to their own desires.
Caught working against the corruption, he goes on the run after an assassination attempt, protected by a team of Avanti who are as disgusted as he is by the degeneration of the Alliance. Together, they do the only thing they can— reach out to the resistance and make their way to allies who will help them.
Aristian from Landran, has been a chieftain for most of his adult life. He’s tired and looking for a new challenge. When King Kastain asks him to step up and become a new galactic ambassador for his people, Aristian leaps at the chance to take on the new role.
When a new race becomes the target for the corrupt Alliance, they reach out to the resistance for help. Aristian and Ferido are only too happy to step up and try to bring about change to the universe. Aided by friends, they traverse the cosmos, determined to give what aid they can.
What should have been a simple mission soon becomes fraught with danger, and they find themselves dealing with those who would destroy everything.
Having dedicated their lives to helping people, can Aristian and Ferido take time to focus on their own needs and desires while worlds are at risk around them? Are their ages and species too different to build a future on? And will any of them survive to have it really matter?

I needed some days to order my thoughts and to be able to write a review. I dearly love the Barin Universe books. The Avanti teams, Landrans and Demons. Although, the Demons are still my faves.

It's good to see the overall story continue and the Nendi are in interesting addition to the Universe. Besides that, I struggled with this book. The romance part wasn't as good as in previous books. Though, I liked Aristian in the Avanti series. He simply wasn't on my radar for a relationship - male or female. And that probably made it difficult for me to like the romance part of the story. To me it didn't feel natural.
Ferido was interesting, to say the least. I was surprised to learn that he was a dovrik shifter and a decedent from the Fire & Ash series (I use the term series loosely as there's only one book so far...).
I liked that part. I liked him. But him and Aristian...nope. It felt way to forced for me. Also, Aristian was a formidable warrior in the Avanti series and in the plot portrayed he felt off - like a thumb sticking out.

The new Avanti team was nice as well, and I liked them. But there's still Cayvic's Avanti team and Evan that are at lose ends. I wish to see more of them.

Aside from that, Rebellion was a slow book to set up the new series. I wished there was more action. The action we had, the 2 battles - was just too short. Also the story seemed to be more fast paced and streamlined in that regard. The characters more solid. And a big plus - not sinking into seemingly endless monologues about their feelings. At times, I felt like everything was talked to death. One other reviewer said it quite fitting : the characters need to shut up at times. I have to admit I tend to skim, when there's a scene with too much deep and emotional talk. Once per book is enough, not every other page. With that out of the way.

I liked the book, not as much as the previous ones. Also, I would love to see a younger couple again. There a lot of unattached Avanti running around....just saying. ;)

I rate this book 2.5 stars - rounded up to 3.

Why do I keep reading work by this author?

I love the world building & the characters but all of her characters make grand speeches, even during sex. It’s ridiculous. Sweeping declarations of love, honor, bravery etc etc etc.

None of the characters have normal conversations. I admit I started skimming while rolling my eyes.

I knew better. I know how she writes. She needs needs a professional editor who will tell her characters to shut up already.

Brilliant I thought ... a new sci-fi series that sounds really interesting from the advertised blurb. The action-packed fight sequence from the very start boded well. It was in the post-space-battle period in the ensuing chapters when the pacing faltered significantly. Too much time was spent in talking, talking, talking ... where, to be fair, I guess the author had to set the backstories for the plot universe for readers unfamiliar with her work. The characters and names came thick and fast ... to the point I got overwhelmed. As some of the names sounded vaguely familiar, when it clicked that Walker was bringing together multiple characters/plotlines from her Avanti, Demonic Tales and Fire & Ash series! Now I've only read the first of the first and third mentioned series and none of the second. Hence - the great confusion.

Even though this new series introduces a new world/species (non-Alliance of course), I found myself reliving the same reading experiences I've had with her other books i.e. the dialogue/conversation just do not sound like they come from hardened male space warriors. Of even greater concern, I could not find a single female character featured in the four hundred plus pages ... is almost every male character doomed to find a M-M pairing (eternal mating)??? By fast-forwarding huge chunks, and skipping from one space fight sequence to the next (honestly - these were the best thing about this book), I just managed to get through to the end and avoided a DNF. 1.5 stars rounded up to 2 for those space battle scenes.

First of all, this is an incredible start to the Rebellion series and I cannot wait to see what happens next! Now, Ferido and Aristian...they are now my favorite couple in the universe that Hannah Walker created. Ferido is a Founding Senator, which could make you think he's as bad as some of the others we've seen, but he is the epitome of what a Founding Senator should be. As his Avanti team rushes him to safety, there are moments where you think this is it, they won't get out of this. Well, they do and make their way to Landran. Oh, did I forget to mention that Ferido is a dovrik (beautiful and deadly) shifter who recognizes their Eternal Fire? Yep, and his Eternal Fire is Aristian. Arisitan is a familiar character to those that have read the Avanti series and knowing he gets a HEA is amazing! Aristian is starting a new chapter in his life and finds himself fascinated with Ferido and looks for ways to spend time with him.

For anything more about their journey to their HEA, what's happening in the universe, you'll need to read the book. Be prepared to ignore your life; it will draw you in and not let go.

Reviewed by Lisa for MM Good Book Reviews 5 💖💖💖💖💖 Hearts

This series is connected to the Avanti Chronicle collection and the Demonic Tales collection. To enjoy the overall story arc I would suggest starting with the first book in the Avanti Chronicles.

Ferido was one the first founding senators for the Alliance. It was pure luck and the help of his avanti protectors that they made it out alive. He was working for the resistance and knew he could help them better. He also knew he could never go home. He is a very special man, more special then many understand. He is a dovrik shifter. A very rare shifter who changes into basically what is called a fire phoenix.

I always knew Aristian was going to have a happy ending and I do mean happy ending. He is ready to retire and enjoy his grandkids. One of his sons is already a leader of another clan and it looks like his youngest might just be the perfect man to lead their tribe. But if he thinks retirement is going to be peaceful he is soon to learn that it is not. Especially when he meets Ferido.

I can’t wait for Tate to find out that Aristian has a mate. He is going to be a blast to listen to. This is one of the best series that I have came across in quite awhile. I love the characters and their banter with each other. The way they stand up and protect those around them is amazing. I love how another planet has joined in the fun, but was sad when one of the guards was killed protecting his king. I could have done without it moving right into a fight. However this author made it work perfectly.

I also loved how the Nendi reacted to the new comers. They were full of questions so you can guess how our guys reacted. It is funny as hell. I had a blast reading this and can’t wait to get my hands on the next story. I can guarantee that this will be one of those stories that will be read many more times.

2.5 read with the potential to be at least a 3.5. Rounded down due to blurb not making ANY mention of this being a spin-off series from two previous ones. Every character and their mother shows up once they meet the resistance. It was overwhelming and very confusing. Very little background info was given on the around 15 couples. Eventually, I realized there had to be a connected series. I stopped reading, and looked it up. Turns out there were at least 2, and I had read the 1st of each and decided not to continue on about 4 years ago. I did use the blurbs to try and sort characters, species, and couples. I became even more frustrated when the 2nd series had a blurb statement about being in the same world etc... This should have had the same, because it really effected my enjoyment.

I had no idea I'd read any books from either of the previous series. Not even when reading did the couples "tickle my memory"which says something in itself.

The story for this one would have been good, but for the flow. The story, action, even sex kept screeching to a halt to have the same conversation multiple times; with some statements repeated within the same conversation. I was constantly thrown out of the story. As were other reviewers by far.

Upon reading my reviews of the earlier books, I'd said the same thing. It is a severe issue not just about preference. Obviously, the author likes wasting time writing extra pages that add nothing to the story. I absolutely do not understand why there hasn't been any improvements over so many books. If the repetition wasn't bad the conversations are often stilted and unnatural feeling.

The first scenes really started this story off well! There were other sections that flowed smoothly without constant stopping to say how wonderful everyone is etc... But not enough.

Epic Start to Next Chapter after Avanti

What an incredible start to the next chapter in the says thatstarted with the Avanti series and Demonic Tales. The battle against the Alliance continues as the Rebellion grows with the addition of the Nendi. Hannah Walker’s ability to create worlds, keep a faced paced full of detail interstellar adventure, develop strong primary and secondary characters, and as in romance makes her novels interesting and thrilling to read. She has met all my expectations in her newest endeavor. As confrontations with the Alliance looms, the Avanti, Demons, Landrans and the Former Founding Dovian Senator race to aid potential new allies the Nendi. Follow the Former Senator his new mate and their friends as they.... of I keep going I’ll give away too much. Enjoy it’s WORTH Every Minute!

Wow

This world that Walker has created is one of the most fabulous, intriguing, and detaile. It impossible not to fall in love with all the characters. The story arc that now spans 3 series and years of a timeline is brilliant and aww inspiring. Every couple is unique and yet relatable. The relationships not just romantic ones that have formed and continued to form in this series are truly amazing. This world and the series in it are without a doubt astounding and amazing. As a reader who reads.... a lot.... I can say this is truly my favorite world/series, because the 3 connected series are one series in my mind. I absolutely reccomend this and all the series in the world.

😀

🌟 Hannah Walker is a talented writer and is able to create great stories about wonderful men and amazing new worlds. This first book of the REBELLION series is a spin-off from the fantastic THE AVANTI CHRONICLES and DEMONIC TALES series. I was so very happy that this book included some of the characters from the other two series!!
🌟 It isn’t absolutely necessary-but I would strongly encourage you to read the books from THE AVANTI CHRONICLES and DEMONIC TALES series prior to reading this one. Reading the other books will allow you to better understand what is happening so you can enjoy this story more thoroughly.
😀 I’m looking forward to Book 2. Hope it’s available soon!

I really like the world that this series is based on. I loved the Avanti chronically and the Demon ones but after fifteen books and ten couples I'm losing track of every one and keeping all the characters straight. Anyone new to the story is going to be frustrated and lost.

Unfortunately I'm also not feeling a lot of new exciting ideas coming out of the series. The new Avanti crew in this book feels similar to the one in the original. The Nedri have some differences from the Landrans and Demons but they have a similar feel in set up to the people in the kingdom. We even get the spy/betrayal thing going on. A Dorvik is a cool shifter but Katar had a great deal more character than Ferido's shifter.

I did enjoy this story but I didn't love it near as much as the previous series.

Another must read of Hannah Walkers

This new series is absolutely as good as the avanti and demon series. I love that the story continues right where it left off in the last demon book. I can wait for the next book! I was lucky enough to find these amazing books once they were all published, getting to read them all one right after the other. This is the first time I have to wait for the next book! Please hurry Hannah!! Hannah Walker is an amazingwriter. The avanti, demon, and rebellion series have moved to the top of my all time favorite series. A must buy. A must read! Thank you Hannah for your brilliance, you imagination, your writing, your characters, and mostly for the hope, love, friendship, and honor your stories bring the world.

Loved it

Phoenix shifters, hot men falling in love, and the two MC this time are not spring chickins. More mature. It never says, but I'm guessing 50s for age. It's wonderful when you can read about a fresh and surprising love at such an age. Plus, of course, evil Barin Alliance intrigue, unprovoked attacks against those who refuse to be controlled by the Alliance. Add in a new hot Avanti team, a new fascinating race with lots of exotic hot guys and you have a great story. I totally recommend this series to all Hanna Walker fans. Not just hot MM love, but honest to goodness scifi.

DNF @ 30%.

Not a bad book, necessarily. The characters and plot were interesting, but I had some issues with the dialogue being a little stilted and there was a little bit of head hopping just before I called it quits. This is the first book I've read by this author and although it is listed as the first of it's series, it really depends a lot on knowledge from other books. At many points 3-6 characters are introduced in quick succession, all from previous books. It's very difficult to keep up with the pace that is set without having read the other books. It got pretty confusing for me and I wasn't enjoying it, so I decided to stop reading.

Loved it

How wonderful that we get another chance top see the depravity to which the Barin Alliance has sunk, and the heroism that the Avanti, Landran, Kenestalian, and now Nedri will rise to in combat against that evil. I loved that Aristian and Ferido were an older pairing - that they showed that it wasn't simple lust that first brought them together, though it helped, but that they also valued togetherness.

Far across a galaxy....

What a start to this series - action, adventure, shifters, and epic love! Aristian had never dreamed of the stars while Ferido thought if he escaped alive then he would be hiding quietly, life was gonna smack them in the face. Great start to a new series! It really adds to this story if you’ve read the Avanti Chronicles series but not necessary.

5* I absolutely Love 💗💗 this new series. Rebellion continues the Avanti and Demons stories now including more people, planets and a Resistance. All of this makes me very happy. I really like Ferido and Aristian as a couple, they complement each other very well. And OMG! 😯😍 a Phoenix shifter. I'm excited to see where this goes.

Another outstanding read!

I have read all of her books. The vivid worlds development plus the characters that live in those worlds make can book an adventure to enjoy. The only problem with book is that ended far to all soon. There was no problem with the proofreading and editing. Just wish the next book in the series will be here soon

Another great series in this universe. Much loved characters from two different series joining new friends in a third. I am a huge sci-fi fan, and have been reading sci-fi books for over 4 decades. Walker always manages to write great stories, but this is definitely not a standalone. I haven't read all of the Avanti or Demonic books so I really couldn't keep up with all of the cameos and throwbacks from the two series. You'll need to read both of those series before diving into this spinoff.

*** Reread Oct 2023 ***

Still love this story and the whole universe this book is a part of. In hindsight and with a little more distance I can say that there are a few things that feel off. Like when Aristian and Ferido are asked how the two of them met and they answer "We have a ship, but it's incredibly rare. At least, it was until Dax and his Avanti team crashed on our world." Aristian smiled at the early memories of the Avanti flooding his memories. "Since then, we've become close with the demons from Kenistal, and we've added Dima, Evan and Ferido from the Alliance..." As nice as it is to read them familiar names, someone who doesn't know any of them would be confused. Who is Dax? Who are Dima and Evan? So I can understand people who picked up this book, never having read any of the other series being overwhelmed with all the name dropping and mentions of past happenings.

Another thing I think might be strange if you think about it too long are the long emotional speeches to one another during moments they should think about something else as well as the frequent reassurances and pandering to one anothers ego by telling them how proud, in awe or honored they are. For me I would feel more honored if they weren't something I could expect frequently but rather when earned. Also, I would not be receptive to long talks while parts of my partner were playing with parts of me and inside of me.

It was also mentioned and I also concur in that there seem to be a dichotomy between their warrior persona and their every day persona. In their every day persona they seem so ... incompetent, and during one conversation between Ferido and Aristian I even questioned if Ferido knew he was talking to a man who had been a chieftan (aka. politician and warrior) and already had grandchildren and had faught in multiple battles himself. On the other hand, when in battle they are completely different persons.
"Love, I've been a politician for a long times, and a military man before that. Neither of those favor situations where emotions are allowed, or at least, shouldn't be expressed. That doesn't mean I don't feel them. You are everything to me, but it's going to take time for me to adapt to being more open, at least visually. You need to remember this is all as new to me as it is to you. ..."

Still, if you just let the story wash over you it is so lovely. It is always a comfort read to me and I pick it up if I want something with action and intrigue but with a loving and supportive cast and strong bonds between the main couple as well as their friends and families.

I REALLY do hope Hannah Walker is going to be well soon as there are so many stories still to be told not only in this universe but also in other series of hers. For example the other Avanti team, Evan, the Nendi king and Ric as well as a certain vampire from another series and a sweet coala...

*** Reread Feb 2021 ***

This author just makes me feel good inside. I love the love and camaraderie between the love interest, their families and friends. How they can be fierce during battle and bantering when they need to relieve stress.

*** Rerread Jul 2020 ***

Hannah Walker has done it again! What are you doing to us??? I am addicted to your books and worlds.

Ferido and Aristian are a real power couple. Both didn't expect to find love at their age again, they didn't know what hit them when they met. I love their slow burn love which allowed Aristian to come to terms with the idea of falling in love with a man. Their relationship felt so natural it was beautiful! The book not only focusses on the romantic part of their growing relationhip but also their friendship – although I love those too don't get me wrong :-) – as well as the friendships that formed over the years and the new ones yet to be cemented´. The storyline kept you engaged and on your toes. You also get to meet old favourits again from Landran and the demons.

Every time I read another of Hannah Walkers books I thank fate for making me pick up the first book forever ago and taking a chance, I haven't regretted it since! Can't wait is in store for us next :-)
