This is a very short book. I don’t know what to call it; it is longer than a novella but shorter than a proper novel. It’s 160 pages and it is written from the 1st person point of view, which is the heroine’s.

It has a cute and romantic plot and it seems to be written as a Valentine Story.

Our heroine, Ryan, is on her way to Dubai for a vacation she was going to go with her ex but after finding out he was cheating on her, she is now going on this holiday alone with the intention of healing and finding herself again.

When her flight is delayed, she sits down to read a book from her favorite writer and with a twist of fate, he asks her if she is enjoying his book. Yes, he is sitting next to her in the airport!

First, she doesn’t believe the man is him (Actually, that was weird, I would know what my favorite writer looks like. Why didn't she?). Then, when she sees it is him after checking the photo at the back cover of the book, she is thrilled and very happy. They start to chat about his books and everything and they seem to hit it off.

Later, they find that their flight is canceled and they both will be able to fly to Dubai in the morning only. They go to the hotel the airline booked for them and find out that there is only one room for them!

What begins as an unstoppable attraction at the airport leads to an unforgettable week in Dubai for both of them until she tells him she loves him and he is scared and pushes her away.

Then there is a 6-month separation and then there is a grand gesture which can be accepted as his way of grovelling.

Personally, I hate this type of grand gestures. They are not my thing. I would have preferred it if he had gone to her sooner and begged her to forgive him. Why waste 6 months?

She loved what he did but if it were me, I couldn’t have forgiven him with only that thing. After doing what he did, he still should have looked for her. Instead, she looked for him and found him after his gesture and I didn’t like it. That’s me, though, you may even love what he did and how they reunited.

description

I still enjoyed this book despite my problems with it because it made me feel. If it were longer with more character development, I am sure, it would have been one hell of a romance book that I would rate with 4 or 5 stars but now it is lacking. With its short length, it mainly focuses on their attraction and it is full of sweet and hot times. Actually, there are too many sex scenes for such a short read. I needed more character depth, a better developed plot line and more dialogues etc. Actually the plot line is too simple; they meet, they are attracted to each other, they spend an amazing week with hot sex and sweet times and when she says she loves him, he gets cold feet. That's all what it is. But then again, I loved what I had, it was still good, making me feel. I never got bored or never wanted to DNF it. It was good but just not good enough.

If you wonder about safety, there is no mention of other people during the separation so I assume they were both celibate and I can call it a safe book.

I can recommend it if you have a little time for a book escape and a short book is what you need. Then, this one will make you feel despite being short.

Very light valentine theme. I thought the idea of the story was cute, but overall probably my least favorite KA Knight book I've read.

There was a lot of smut but it wasn't very varied or exciting so it got a bit boring. I found myself skimming a lot at the half way point. I might just not have been in the right mood for this book. The MMC was a super squishy marshmallow, which is cute sometimes but not my favorite type of character. I thought him being a horror author was super fun though.

I probably would have given it a 3 but the ending was perfect and adorable and super 80s rom com movie worthy and brought it back up to a 4 for me.

This book is sweet and adorable and hot all at once. It’s so easy to put yourself in the main character, Ryan’s shoes. She’s been in a crappy relationship that she was too comfortable to leave before he forced her hand, and now she’s hesitant to risk her heart again.

Logan is a writer who’s scared to love too, but for different reasons, and when the two have the perfect meet-cute at an airport, it’s basically fate.

Prepare to smile like a fool through this entire book. It’s everything you want in a love story.

This was a sweet book. It’s short, only 170 pages and I think it was the first I read by this author. I really enjoyed it.
Once I started reading, I couldn’t put it down. It was lovely. A funny but deep story, really cute cover too.

This is the sweetest love story ever! I have been dying to read it and it was all I hoped for and more. I loved it so much. My life will never be the same.
There is not much I can say about it without giving out spoilers. The plot is pretty straight forward, or would have been, but then the author gave it her own spin and turned it into a love letter to her fans. Like I didn't already love her like crazy.
The characters are great, strong, lovable, especially Ryan. I especially loved how the author made her, love and appreciate herself and know exactly what she wants, and what she deserves. Their connection is pit of this world special and their chemistry is off the charts. Their story is hot hot hot!
Again the author surprises me with her versatility and pure awesomeness. I loved her work from the beginning and I love it more and more with each book. And this book was definitely one of my favourites.

This story was everything I needed and more.
I really do love everything that Katie writes, I find comfort in every book of hers that I read.
I usually put long detailed reviews for books that I adore but I honestly can’t put into words how much I loved this.
It was romantic, heartfelt, sweet and oh so spicy!!
I’m ridiculously in love with Logan and his pierced pecker, that man is literally a sex god!!! 😩
Ryan (Stripes) and Logan (Worm) are a crazy match made in heaven. Their love story truly is one for the ages. It had me laughing, giggling, swooning and high pitch squealing. And the ending had tears of joy streaming down my face.
Who knew love could be found in an airport while on standby?

The perfect Valentine's Day read

Whether you're single or in a relationship this is the perfect Valentine's Day story. For the single girls it's the perfect date to share with your battery operated boyfriend. For the taken ones let's just say your partner will be thanking K.A. Knight while on their knees if you're lucky. In case I need to state the obvious this story is hot, steamy, on fire, panty melting...well you get where I'm going right?! It's also cute and in between the sexy times I spent my time with a goofy smile on my face. The story and connection between Ryan and Logan is immediate and intense. They just click. I loved their story so much. I also adored Ryan's relationship with her parents. The scene near the end with her Dad brought tears to my eyes. Logan's grand gesture and that ending made me swoon while being green with envy. Such a good, fun and very sexy read! I highly recommend it.

Good!

This is the first book I've read by this author, and I have to say I did enjoy It. It was short-ish, fun, light, and the characters were adorable. I like the story, the setting, and the back story, I just with there was a little more at the end. All in all, it was a good feel good read. Definitely worth the one click.

This was crap. Relatively short and it still took me way too long to read. This book could’ve been 300 pages and it wouldn’t have been as rushed. And after the 20th mention of Cupid, I wanted to punch the FMC in the face. The idea was cute but I felt like their vacation in Dubai should’ve been at least two weeks for her to catch feelings. Idk.

This is the perfect Valentine's story. Cupid really inspired our author to share the love. A chance meeting, incredible chemistry and hot hot hot times doing the horizontal mambo.

The last part of the book ripped my heart out and broke it, but it also mended it with love. 💘💘💘

Ryan is on her way to Dubai for a little vacation and a chance to heal and find herself again after the end of a crappy relationship. When her flight is delayed and eventually canceled, she ends up spending time with a handsome author. What begins as a cute conversation becomes the best week of her life and then leaves her crushed. It's a once in a lifetime whirlwind love affair and then it's over. But Ryan will never be the same.

This is the perfect Valentine Story. From the meet-cute to the heartbreak to the grand gesture it's pure hearts and roses. It's at once over the top and relatable. It's hot and sweet and romantic. Ryan and Logan are both adorable and clearly meant to be but both have luggage beyond what they took to the airport with them. Perfect dates to gush over, hot sex to swoon over, heartbreak to cry over, wonderful parents to melt over, and a grand gesture to obsess over. I love it. Actually, I want it for myself.

Sweet like chocolate

This is such a sweet story!! I loved it! A book nerd falling in love with a writer. Cant get much better than that.

Katie takes us on a journey and breaks our heart just to patch it back together.

There is so much I loved about this book. The story was super cute, and so swoony. Meeting at an airport, having a delay together, him being an author, her being a fan of his books. He's so incredibly sweet and kind and caring towards her, which she is absolutely not used to. I had a ton of fun reading this! The spice as perfection, and pure filth, A plus. A couple things I didn't love were, while I understand this is a novella and things have to happen rather quickly, just how insta-lovey it was. I get instant infatuation, that's just fine, but just so quickly it went to love. and while he is absolutely swoon worthy, and I get it, it just rubbed me the wrong way, personally, when his feelings weren't reciprocated and she just completely freaked out. There was also the use of a couple words during the spicy scenes (a few times) that absolutely turn me off and I am not a fan of. The spicy scenes are SO HOT, and then bam, I'm taken out of the fantasy with the use of these words. Just a little unfortunate in my opinion!

ALL OF THAT BEING SAID: If you want a short, spicy, swoony read, I absolutely recommend The Standby, I had a blast reading it!

Adored this book

When I started this book I didn't know about it, it seemed to start off slow. However the more I read, the more I loved how it went so slow and let their relationship build up. The way it was wrote, you felt apart of their relationship, you were invested in it. I loved how they were with each other, the chemistry, the smexy times, all of it lead to heart break. I have my cried over a book in a long time but I cried for ryan. I wanted him to come running back to her just as much as she did. The ending though, wow! The ending made everything worth it. The big gesture, the romance, the apology. Then the meet up, and finally the late ending. Wow, just wow! Only thing I didn't like was that you never knew what Logan was thinking, you just got Ryan's pov, however in the end, it gives you that and more. So 5 stars all the way. If I could give it more I would. I will be buying the paperback just so I can worship it's awesomeness!!!

This was too fkn cute!
I think he should've been the one to chase her instead of her having to find him, although what he did, was super amazing.
The whole time reading this, I was waiting for the other shoe to drop. With those late night calls, I was thinking it was another woman or something. I didn't see it going like that. This couple felt so real to me. They had an amazing connection.
I LOVE Knight! I've read so many books by her. I am trying to read them all honestly. :)
She is one my favorite Indie authors. I love reading books by Indie authors, and Knight is definitely at the top of my list. She is amazing at story telling and world building. I haven't come across a book by her that I haven't fell in love with, yet.

This is different than the other stuff by her that I've read. Mostly because there is only one MMC. lmfao. But I still loved it <3

First read from this author, and one thing for sure: I really really wish K.A Knight would slip in a proper grovel by H somewhere in between these (around I think?) 160 pages.

Personally, the writing style and plot has so much potential and would've earned perfect five stars from me if not for: (1) the unsatisfactory grovelling as stated above and (2) the overwhelming amount of sexual scenes that could have been replaced with more character or plot development instead.

Nevertheless, I didn't love it but I wouldn't say I hate it. I still think it could be enjoyable for those looking for something short and sweet. The writing style and the author's ability to captivate you with her words alone gives me hope that maybe her other works (maybe a full length one?) would be better.

Short, Sweet and Perfect!

This is book is so different from others I have read from this author but it did not disappoint! It was short, sweet with a little bit of angst and oh so perfect!! I fell in love with this story and now i need this made into a movie!! Ry’s character is amazing! The way she carries herself and holds her head high and knows her worth is so awesome to read! Yes she has insecurities like any person but she finally knows what she deserves and what she is worth and won’t settle for less! She chose herself over him at one point and she was all the stronger for it!!! Wanting something short and sweet with plenty of steam and that leaves you happy with all the feels then this book is it!! 5 STARS!!!

This book was exactly what I needed at the time! This is the perfect Valentine’s read! It was a sweet but oh so steamy read with a dash of drama. Once I started, I couldn’t stop! I really enjoyed reading this! I loved the plot, the characters were amazingly well developed ( not a shock coming from K.A. Knight).I really enjoyed Ryan. She was so lovable, sweet and brave, dealing with a hard break up the best ways possible and in comes Logan whom was totally swoon worthy, even with the mistakes he makes. This was a fun standalone that had a really satisfying end, even though I’d love to read more!

During holidays I always read books geared toward that day...that’s how I stumbled upon this gem. This particular story was absolutely PERFECT. It has everything a romance should have...a quirky, smart, strong woman and a handsome, sweet, sexy man. Add a sprinkling of fate along with a beautiful setting and voila, you have a perfect story. It is humorous, sweet, smart, emotional and STEAMY! I laughed and cried and even had to fan myself a couple times to cool off. I will be finding more books by KA Knight, but I’m telling you, you don’t want to miss out on this one!!!❤️

I feel like I can’t even breathe after reading that! I’m sobbing! That was the most beautiful love story! Ryan and Logan are absolutely perfect and soul mates for sure! I loved their spice and their banter and playfulness. Surprisingly I also loved their third act hiccup and their way back to each other broke my heart and put it back together. It was so unexpected and I’ll recommend this forever! That was an amazing novella, it had everything I could want. Love, romance, spice, deep emotion and the greatest happy ever after! This is a MUST read

a feel good romance

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🌶️🌶️🌶️
If you are looking for a feel good romance this is it! Ryan is a strong woman who knows exactly what she deserves but life keeps throwing her roadblocks! After being delayed in her flight, she meets a handsome stranger, her favourite author.

The banter between the 2 is absolutely adorable and shows how a fling can potentially turn into something more. Logan was true to his character and his redemption at the end was cute!

This is the first romance of KA Knights I’ve read and it won’t be the last!

The Standby is such a fantastic book it is romantic, sweet and has all the ingredients you need. Ryan has been in a bad relationship and is forced to get out of it but decides to still go on holiday. Enter Logan he is a author also wanting to get a few rays in. Fate likes to play its hand or rather K A Knight likes to make it destiny. You will smile all the way through it. Absolutely fantastic book everything you could want or need from a Love story

Amazing read. Could not put this down!
Ryan going on holiday, trying to get away from that pesky ex of hers. Unfortunately for her its valentines day and all that lovey Dovey stuff is all around... she is definitely not in the mood. Unfortunately airport luck strikes and her flight is delayed and she has to find things to do to pass her time... insert Logan here.
This is a brilliant read and well worth it.
