Is it possible to find meaning in our day to day existence? Can wisdom be attained while we run errands, do the dishes and pay our bills? Ordinary Sparkling Moments - a joyful combination of the writing, collage and photography of Christine Mason Miller - explores these questions and more, celebrating the deeper truths that await our discovery in some of life's most mundane moments. This book is written from the experiences of a woman on the cusp of 40, evolving into a place where she trusts her own wisdom and beliefs - knowledge and confidence earned through quiet observation and appreciation of all the experiences life offers her, from the grand to the routine. Many of life's moments may be ordinary, but just beneath the surface there exists plenty of sparkle and delight; Ordinary Sparkling Moments honors all the unexpected places meaning can be found and all the surprising ways we can uncover our most authentic selves.
I am not going to say inspiring- that seems too cliche and not quite the word I want to use. This book encouraged me to stop and reflect many times, without really asking me to reflect. Sometimes it takes someone speaking their truth to allow one to review their own truth.
I was nervous at first, by the hand written text. But what a beautiful, well written book. I enjoyed the art behind the words as much as the words themselves.
I am happy this book exists. It makes me happy that things like this book exist. That people think things up and then make them happen. The world needs more of that. I applaud any effort toward creativity and realizing our dreams and hope and faith and joy and this book means all of that to me.
That said, I completely disagree with much of what is actually said in Ordinary Sparkling Moments. And that's okay. I can be grateful to the author for sharing herself so authentically, and having the courage and perseverance to publish her thoughts, insights, and inspirations without agreeing with all of them. Sometimes it is in reading what we don't agree with that we crystallize for ourselves what it is that we do believe.
This was a quick read and a fun selection from our Art book club. I read it in one afternoon and evening. I found this book to be much more inspiring and helpful than some of the other motivational books we've read. The pages were pretty and there were at least four pages that I actually had to touch to make sure they were flat. The texture and layering looked so real. I think the part that spoke to me most was when the author said someone was keeping her in a box and when she no longer fit into that box or wanted to stay in it, things changed. To grow we have to change. She did inspire me. One of my favorite pages was the one where she listed the people that were important to her. I just like lists of names, I guess.
This is such an inspiring book. This beautiful woman is a friend of mine and although it's very rare that we are able to connect in person, she continues to be an inspiration to me. This book is a true extension of her positive, creative, down to earth, and loving way of being and I think everyone should read it!
'Sparkling Moments' is a solid reminder that we authorize our life stories, that we must choose to take control of our own lives, and that we all have our own unique brand of creativity.
