First things first... this cannot be real, but it is… this is an incredible offer!!!!

The “Shadow Magic Box” is a compilation that includes six full-length series starters by some of the most interesting authors in Urban Fantasy. I still cannot believe this set really exists! I have read some of the stories before, others were new to me, and no, I would not tell you which. Just say that they are books by my favourite UF authors of all times. I pick the set for two reasons: first I wanted to try the to me unknown authors and secondly it comes in handy to have all six books in a single place so to speak. As all six books are the opening story in a series the set offers a fantastic overview into a variety of bestselling authors. Do yourself a favour and pick the set right now, you would hardly get a better offer and chances are that you’ll find your next favourite author among its pages!

This is a quick review of each of the stories 😊

Huntress Born (Wolf Legacy Series) by Aimee Easterling
Ember is a female Werewolf, who is forced to leave her pack for the first time as her half-brother goes missing. Her initial conviction of doing a quick run, finding her brother and returning back home, is challenged as soon as she put her eyes in a certain (and very forbidden) human. Ember is adorable, naïve, funny and smart all at once, and as a bonus…. there are cupcakes.

Beyond the Veil (Veil Series) by Pippa DaCosta
Muse a demon/human hybrid trying to blend in the human realm, has to embrace her demons powers as an assassin from beyond the veil threatens to destroy her very existence in this realm. The uneasy relationship between Muse and Akil (her demon master) is delicious, Aki is exactly the kind of character you would love to hate and can live without.

Justice Calling (Twenty-Sided Sorceress Series) by Annie Bellet
Jade Crow have been on the run for twenty-years from Samir her ex, who wants to strip off her powers. As the owner of a game-shop in Wylde, Idaho she is just hiding in plain sight as Alek, a were-tiger enforcer shows up to complicate things. Jade is a very unusual heroine, and a very strong one.

Getting Wilde (Immortal Vegas Series) by Jenn Stark
Sara Wild is a treasure hunter capable to find anything… for a price using a very special method: Tarot reading. As Armaeus Bertrand, the genuine Magician of the Major Arcana ask her to find and recover the Devil from a prison in the Vatican, she is more than eager to please, and so her position as official “hunter” for the Arcana Council begins. Wolves (I Bring the Fire Series) by C. Gockel
In this unexpected mix of Norse Mythology and Urban Fantasy, the life of Amy Lewis (an average American human) and Loki (the Norse God) become entangled as Amy is being chased by an enormous wolf, as the very same time as Loki wakes up in his cell without recognition of what has happened to put him there. Loki true to character the ultimate antihero, a trickster who stops at nothing to reach his goal, but no evil in nature, and as Amy comes into play his capacity for good manifest. There is both deep moments and funny times in the story. A must for all Norse Mythology fans out there.

Empowered: Agent (Empowered Series) by Dale Ivan Smith
Meet Mathilda Brandt the villain or maybe not? Mat just didn’t want to join the Hero Council, so they threw her in prison. Now she just turned twenty-one and have been paroled, which bring a whole new set of problems. Mat just wish to be let alone and go on with her life, but as a gang of criminals threatens her family, she must accept “the offer” of some secret agency to avoid going back to prison for good this time. Mat is a villain turned hero with superpowers and witty retorts. A fast-paced story with action and whimsical elements.

I really don’t think I will really them all.

Getting Wilde by Jenn Stark - “Tarot-reading artifact hunter Sara Wilde can find anything, for a price.” It got me really confused because I know almost nothing on Tarot references... And the first chapter was very... boring. I almost quit the book...But the story evolved so well, that it have me hooked on it pretty good. 4 ⭐️ The big downside in this series is the size: too many books...I don’t think I will get the other books...

Wolves by C. Gockel - “When Amy prays for help, Loki the Norse God of mischief and Chaos isn't the savior she has in mind.” I really like stories with Loki. But this one I really don’t, simply don’t. 2/3 ⭐️

Awesome! These very talented and imaginative authors not only hit the motherload, they reign supreme with this Impressive collection, calling the shots and running the show, blasting this little fella into a tailspin with life altering, mind-blowing culminations. This collection showcases 100% on point realism, kicking up a churning vortex chocked-full of daunting circumstances and a bevy of surprising happenstance that keep you flipping page after page. You find yourself so immersed and taken in by the tantalizing interactions, you can't put this baby down. Blundering through the trials and tribulations, shocking twists and startling turns, testing our characters in ways they could have never anticipated. The characters are authentic, genuine and realistic with depth and qualities that blend into diverse personalities. The scenes are so vividly detailed and descriptive it gives the illusion you were right there in the middle of ground zero with them. Remarkable job guys, thanks for sharing this bad boy with us.

First off I can't believe this box set was free. I plan on picking up a couple of these series and running through them. Now the one from Jenn Stark I have already raced through that series and loved every book and branched out to more. These funky, strong, crazy, stubborn women have been thrown into the lives they now find themselves immersed in. While they fumble and make mistakes they are clearly up for the challenge (they just don't know it yet). The characters have you spinning sometimes but bring it all to a finish in a great way leaving you wanting more of the series. Lost of thrills and intrigue, action and mayhem and mostly clean reads they will lead you on through their chase. Loved the set and the intro to some new exciting authors.

Oh boy, I’m having a major problem doing this review of Shadow Magic: Six Strong Heroines of Urban Fantasy. The problem is that not only have I read 5 of the 6 stories, but those are 5 of my very favorite authors and I totally adored each of these books (each separately reviewed). Not surprisingly, considering the company it’s in, I also very much totally enjoyed the one book I had not yet read (Getting Wilde by Jenn Stark). Bottom line: you may be at risk of finding yourself addicted to some new series (I did, even though these stories work standalone) but its more than worth it as these individual stories are all 5-star rated and they and the book-set is very highly recommended.

I wouldn’t describe this collection as being about “Strong women Heroines.” It’s a collection of women surviving. In these stories, they don’t quite reaching the level of *survivor, as they don’t question the system they’re in— a system which abuses, exploits, and subjugates them. Rather, that system (where women should expect to be subjugated) is nearly always cast in, if not a positive light, an acceptable one. Women survive in it and should accept (even make the best of) being in it. “Heriones” do more.

There are 6 books in the series. 4 of them fit the description above.

The other two (“Agent: Empowered” and “Justice Calling”) are different and the best of the bunch.

It is also a terrific introduction to some fascinating authors, and like me you will want to check out further writings of the favorites you find here. This is one of the best collections I have read in a while. All six of the books were the first book in their series, all by different authors. They were all good enough that I purchased the next book in each series. If you haven't tried this collection out you definitely should! Happy reading!

Interesting

Kids with power...use it and you either die or end up in jail. The powers used are cool, but the mutter fool needs a brain transplant to have some manners and respect...just saying. I like Mathilda..she does all that she can to take care of her family, even what she says she wouldn't do again ..cool story

Variety
