Lacks depth, citations, and structure. Reads like a woo-y stream of conscious. And her only actual reflection on cultural appropriation in the “Medicine Wheel of Magic” is “The more openly our spiritual, magical, and healing traditions are shared, the more amalgams within and among them. This is not culture-robbing, stealing sacred practices and claiming them as our own. This is natural abundance”.

From someone who waxed poetic about the wonderful mystical Indians she’s met in her time, she sure lacks any actual meaningful understanding of what it means to be Indigenous and WHY some of us might be uneasy with “sharing”...such as, you know, having closed cultural practices due to literal cultural genocide and protection from new age-y charlatans who pick-and-choose from the “appealing” parts of Indeigenity and completely fail to actually involve any of the difficult parts? Difficult parts like, you know, cultural appropriation and how white people cherry pick and misrepresent our cultures All The Time???
Also, it’s extremely fraught with biological essentialism. Naaaaah.

Beautifully written, both an informative and pleasant read. Great information, chants, songs, meditations, recipes, rituals, etc. The author gives it a personal touch by weaving in storytelling. It felt like I was sitting in a circle, around a roaring fire, listening and learning deeply from a wisewoman who shared her wisdom and experience through storytelling. There are a lot of good lessons in this book.

This book lives on my nightstand. It's up there with many others that I refer to, daily.

Full of rituals, practices, anecdotes, mindfulness techniques, and more; Bennett creates a wonderful book for everyone and anyone who is looking to live a more mindful, earth-concious, green witch style of life. Reconnecting with earth and the female experience is centered in this guidebook, but as Bennett says- the wisdom labeled as feminine can be tapped into by anyone! By honoring yourself, the women in your life, and the spiritual nature that is the menstrual cycle, anyone can tap into that 'womb wisdom' and creativity regardless of sex. Some things might be a little out of date, like the idea that we only use a certain percentage of our brains, but all in all such a great book!

This book was not at all what I was expecting. I expected spells and rituals with lots of insight into herbs and their properties. Instead I got personal story after personal story. Not that that in itself is a horrible thing. In fact, I really liked some of the stories she shared with us. What was horrible was the organization of this book. spells and rituals scattered throughout it. The actual "Spells" section has very few spells in it. To top it all off there are many parts of this book where the title of that specific little story really has nothing to do with what the story is about. She gets a little off topic at times too.
In all it wasn't terrible, but it certainly wasn't wonderful either.

Healing Magic is a beautiful compendium of wisdom, poetry, songs, rituals and guidance for awakening our divineness within and cultivating 'conscious living' in our lives. Robin Rose Bennett gracefully shares her experiences and wisdom, infused with gentleness, humor and love. The healing practices and guidance found here are carefully instructed to ensure that magic is conducted with a conscious intention, as well as love and respect for self and other beings.

Additionally, Healing Magic offers a learning experience on uses of herbs, essential oils, moon cycles, and ways to bond with nature in order to keep attuned, awakened, and kindling our spirit

Finally, threaded throughout this book is the idea of community; whether together in invoking magic, together in ritual ceremony, learning from each other, and in the realization that we are all interconnected through our thoughts, actions and ways of living.

While I have not read this book from cover to cover linearly, I refer to it frequently to discover, to feel connected, and for practical guidance. Healing Magic is that kind of magical book :) I highly recommend it.

I took a mini workshop with Robin Rose Bennett a couple of years ago and found it interesting. When I saw her book listed as a giveaway, I immediately entered and, to my surprise, won a copy. That, in no way, has influenced my rating or review.

I found this to be an interesting book. I liked how she presented the material and gave examples from her personal life. She also gives ideas on making your own rituals and ceremonies for events you may want to honor. As with most non-fiction that I read, I took my time to read this as I wanted time to digest what I read and had several fiction books going during the same time frame.

All in all, I liked it and would definitely look out for other books she has written.

Wow have been “reading” this book for over a month, still made it no further than page 60. Even though the topics/titles of the chapters are things that interest me, this book was just no good (for me at least).

Vague anecdotal stories, all over the place; it felt like a lot of incoherent blabla.

Too anecdotal. Author's obsession about instinct and not questioning 'why' things are done in a specific way, undermines the rest of the generally novice-level book.

A wonderful look at using magic in everyday life, how some engage with magic, and the beauty behind living this way. I loved the bits of memoir interspered and the practical magic elements as well.

Meh. It was fine. Lots of almost too simple to be 101. I liked the spirit behind it all.

It’s hard to take this book seriously with all the closed practices that the author involves herself in, but there were still a couple messages in here that I resonated with and think have value.
