The Bachelorette #1

The Seduction of Lord Sin

Rate this book
The lady’s intent is seduction. And he doesn’t mind being seduced. . . .

Widowed Charlotte Dexter, Lady Clayton, married for duty as all good ladies are taught to do. Love is for the poets, not for the peerage. Now, with her elderly husband dead, it’s time to marry again. Charlotte wants—needs—children. Given she’s no longer a blossoming flower, her pool of likely husbands is growing ever smaller. She studies the current batch of ton bachelors, those she knows are desperate for a wealthy wife, and decides to hold a party at her estate. The catch? This party is for men only, and at week’s end, one of her guests will be her fiancé.

Marcus Roberts, Duke of Sinclair, is all about duty suddenly finding himself the last of his male lineage. He agrees to accompany his friend to Lady Charlotte’s house party because finding a bride is imperative. Preferably a widow with children. His wife's death in the arms of his brother destroyed his faith in love—he'll marry for convenience only—he won't trust so easily again. All he needs is a bride who he is sure can give him sons. Imagine his shock at learning the only woman at the house party is a widow who is rumoured to be barren. He should leave but as he gets to know Charlotte, suddenly the idea of any of these men marrying her stirs the jealous beast.

I listened to the Audio version and the reader was very good. I have a major gripe with the book in that 40% of the book is about Charolette wanting children (I mean repeatedly was I told!) and being too tall and plain. It got to the point it was not interesting. I can accept many plot devices in hr but having a house party for men only to find a husband so the h could have a child was a bit of a stretch. The romance was good, and I wanted more of it. I even enjoyed the mystery. I will try another book by the author as many really enjoyed this one...it just wasn't for me.

Let me start off my saying I have been reading Bronwen Evans since 2016. This is my 23rd book by her. I wrote in my notes that I loved her writing, her stories and sex was pretty good.

It has been strange though. I read 5 book in 2016 and liked them and looked forward to more. Then for some reason didn't pick her up again until 2018. Not sure if she didn't have any more books out until then or what. Then in 2018 I read 11 of her books. Then she only had 1 book out in 2019 and then none again until 2021. Very strange. BUT I did notice she had 3 books out in 2022 including this one and another in 2023.

I am so glad because I do really enjoy her writing. I really enjoyed this story and the characters. Loved Charlotte and Sin. Nice twist on a "house party". Had fun, intrigue, sex...overall a good read.

I started reading purely based on a gorgeous cover and few great reviews.
Story is enjoyable even though I found the whole premise of a house party unbelievable.
Love story was cute but I was expecting more action.
The killer plot threw the book into realm that was not interesting to me at all and at the same time didn’t allow for our MCs to get to know one another in depth as I would like.

I received a copy of this from BookSprout and this is my freely given opinion.

Charlotte Dexter married the Earl of Clayton as a young woman. He was a man her father's age and it was an arranged marriage, rather than a love match, arranged by her father. But Charlotte was resolved to a loveless, arranged marriage, not being a popular debutante, being as tall or taller than most men, and quite plain. All she wanted was children of her own to love... unfortunately she never got her wish, and was widowed by her late 20s. She still desperately wants children. But being an older, plain woman, who is presumed to be barren, she has limited chances, so she arranges a house party and uses her generous widow's portion to lure men she knows are on the look out for money.

She is willing to exchange her money for a man who will give her children, and is not considering love, but does hope that she could find a man with whom she can at least have a friendship with, so she and her friends pick a grouping of men who seem to fit her criteria.

What she does not expect is that one of her best prospects invites one of his friends as moral support. The widowed, Sin, the Duke of Sinclair accompanies his friend to Ivy Cross, thinking it is a conventional house party. His marriage was to the belle of the season, years prior, and he thought it was a love match. But he lost her under scandalous circumstances, as she was cheating on him with his younger brother, and they died in a murder-suicide. Sin could not stand the double betrayal and determined never to open his heart to another woman again. But he must wed to have an heir as he is the last duke of the ancient Sinclair title.

Sin finds himself terribly attracted to Charlotte, seeing beyond her looks, to her inner beauty, but is conflicted as he does not want his feelings engaged, and cannot risk being with a potentially barren woman. He already has plans to offer for another widow, one who already has children so known to be fertile. But the more time they spend together, the stronger the attraction is, and the less he can tolerate the thought of others being her husband, including his good friend, Lord Devlin.

The house party takes a turn to the sinister when one of the guests is found dead, and the story becomes a bit of a murder mystery, where the other guests potentially are victims, and Charlotte and her family may also be the targets of someone looking to take advantage of her wealth and lands... but who may not have been one of her top choices for mate. BTW, the villain of the piece, I was able to figure out pretty early on. On saying that, it was a real shame to kill off the character in question and orphan off three children. Yes, I know it is just a story, but what can I say... I made myself a mixed media art piece years ago that says, "I get too attached to fictional characters", and it is too too true.

I really enjoyed the second chance at love, as well as plain-Jane blossoming and being seen for her inner beauty story lines. I always appreciate a bit of a mystery as well. I found that Sin fought against himself and his attraction and emotions for Charlotte a bit too much for my taste. But then again, I could understand the sense of trauma and betrayal he must have felt, on finding his wife and brother together, dead, and finding out the depth of betrayal with what he thought was the love of his life. Charlotte seemed like such a lovely woman; if anyone read the prequel to this book, the Awakening of Lady Flora, she was a good friend there, and played a pivotal role in the love story of her friend Flora and James, who show up here as well. Also, despite the lack of a loving marriage, she obviously loved her stepchildren, Tobin and Dharma, and Dharma plays a significant role in this story, and shows her love of Charlotte quite a bit. Charlotte's character screams that this is a woman deserving of love and regard, despite what she plans for herself. I was glad to find two people who suffered in their lack of love were able to reach a hard-won HEA for themselves.

I received an ARC edition, so there were a several instances where there were some editing/spelling mistakes, which will hopefully be gone when this is out, but otherwise, I quite enjoyed Charlotte and Sin's story and path to self-confidence and love.

4.25 stars out of 5.

I am adding an extra .25 stars because there is an adorable, messy, well-loved dog in the story... one that Charlotte saved as a pup, and lavishes her overflowing love on during her first marriage. I am a sucker for dogs, real and fictional.

The first full length novel in the series & another very well written book. The characters are well portrayed some I loved, some were OK & a couple I disliked. I did love both Sin & Charlotte who were attracted to each other from their first meeting when he rescued her when her horse shied from a snake & she was thrown. They also grew to like each other & gradually fell in love. I also really liked Dharma, Devlin, Fiona & James. Charlotte soon realises the party wasn't her best idea & then things take a turn I wasn't expecting, I then finished the book in a sitting as I needed to know the outcome. I loved the epilogue which rounded the book off perfectly. An engrossing, captivating read which I loved

As in all other books I have read by this author, Bronwen Evans does not disappoint. Charlotte Dexter knows all about rejection. Bartered away by her parents into a loveless marriage, her worst disappointment, amongst many, is that she has never had a child, one that she could pour out her love to and hold close in her arms. Left a widow, Charlotte decides to take matters into her own hands and invites a handful of bachelors for a week-long house party, in order that she may take her pick of the most suitable gentleman as a husband. Unbeknown to her, her oldest friend Devlin invites Marcus, the Duke of Sinclair to attend the party as his support. Both Marcus and Charlotte love and respect Devlin and they are very aware of the fact that he desperately needs a wife and funds, which marrying Charlotte would certainly provide. However, they also know that the match would be between friends with love having to be side-lined. As Marcus and Charlotte spend time in each other's company, the attraction between them cannot be denied, but when suspicious activities are exposed, Marcus cannot deny his protective feelings towards her. This novel is romantic but also suspenseful as not everyone is as they seem. As the plot comes to a surprising climax, both Marcus and Charlotte realize that it is time to take happiness into their own hands, bringing the novel to a successful conclusion, although leaving the way open for Devlin to find his own answers. I received a copy of this well-written and entertaining romance as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Charlotte Takes Charge

Circumstances lead Charlotte to have a week at her country estate and invites several men in need of marrying for money so she can choose one. Her elderly husband died and she’s ready to have a child before she gets too old. She won’t marry to help her family again. Charlotte thinks she’s too tall and not pretty enough to find someone who loves her now. The Duke of Sinclair (Sin) ends up at her party and he and Charlotte try to manage their attraction after he saves her from an adder. Therein lies a little angst.

The Cornwall area sounds beautiful with its high cliffs, caves, and sandy beaches. It can’t hide evil intent though. Someone there is fooling Charlotte because they’re so desperate for money they would kill for her estate. I loved that Ivy Close had a huge maze, but was hoping for more romsnce to take place there. The love scenes were well-written.

The book introduces Charlotte’s adult step-children Tobin and Dharma and I hope the next few books will be about their lives. I liked that they had a close relationship with Charlotte and not adversarial like in many other books.

I received an advanced copy for my honest opinion.

Charlotte Dexter was content in her previous marriage, but now that she's a widow, she longs for more. She's young enough to still have children of her own, and with her money, it should be easy to find a husband. Charlotte has a few in mind, so decides to invite them for a party. What she isn't expecting is an unexpected guest, Marcus Roberts, Duke of Sinclair.

Marcus came to Charlotte's party at the request of a friend. He has no idea that Charlotte has only invited men as her guests. Marcus immediately likes Charlotte, but seeing as she appears to be barren, having no children of her own from her first marriage, Charlotte can't be the one for him. But he has a duty to marry as well. Find out what happens in THE SEDUCTION OF LORD SIN.

What a page turner. I couldn't put THE SEDUCTION OF LORD SIN down. I loved the slow build between Marcus and Charlotte. Their was passion from the start, but the fact that they were just friends first, was really touching. Definitely would recommend to my friends and family.

Lady Charlotte Dexter is the second wife of the Earl of Clayton. Now a well off widow, she takes matters into her own hands to find a husband to give her a child. Society thinks she is barren with no children from her first marriage, but Charlotte keeps a secret. Arranging a house party at her Cornwall estate, she has invited marriagable gentlemen to stay for a week. Gentlemen who need money. At the end of the week, she will make her decision on the gentleman she will marry. The unexpected arrival of the Duke of Sinclair, who was not invited, throws her off. She has been attracted to Sin for years. He does not need money, but a wife to give him an heir. So begins a heated attraction between them and a killer working to eliminate the competition. I wasn't expecting this book to take a dark turn. With creditors at the door, people get desperate and do things they normally would not do. One sexy hero with trust issues.

She💃💋 Takes Her Pick of Aristocrats🐺

ADULT Regency Romance and an All Male🐺🍆⛲ House Party🏰.

Charlotte💃💋, The wealthy widow of an Earl, has a secret. She wants children more than anything, so she decides to remarry. Throwing a house party and inviting a select list of eligible noblemen seems like a Great idea. An uninvited guest, a widowed young Duke Sinclair🐺🍆⛲, upsets her grand idea!

ARC Provided by Hidden 💎Gems.
I also got this ebook from Amazon 📚with KU.

Liked the book but Dukes are always addressed as DUKE Sinclair or Your Grace or his Grace. They are never addressed as Lord Sinclair. So the constant referral to the Duke in this book as Lord Sinclair was annoying.
World 🌎building could have been much better.

This plot was very unique and I was excited to see where Ms. Evans was going to go with the plot. Think The Bachelorette meets the Regency era! Charlotte's first marriage was marriage of duty, however the night of her wedding, her new husband told her he would not be able to be a true husband and share her bed because he was still in love with his deceased wife. She knew that it wasn't a love match, but she was devastated to find out she wouldn't even be able to have children like she had dreamed. Her parents were very distant and not affectionate, so Charlotte wanted children that she could adore and who would love her unconditionally. It did help that her late husband had children and she became very close with them over the years. Out of guilt, her husband left her with considerable wealth and several properties. She has decided to marry again simply to have children of her own. The only problem is that society has decided she is barren since she didn't have any children with her deceased husband.

Sin is a very broken man; he was in love with his first wife, who was having an affair with his brother, before and during their marriage. His brother killed his wife and then killed himself. Sin was angry and felt very betrayed. But he needs to marry again and get the 'heir and a spare' for the dukedom. He agrees to accompany his friend to a house party to hopefully lift his spirits, but when he saves Charlotte from an Adder after she fell from her horse, the sparks are instant!

It started out a little slow, but what I did NOT see coming was the mystery that developed at the house party! Once that mystery came in to play and it forced Sin to be involved in protecting Charlotte, the story picked up! Charlotte was just what Sin needed to believe in love and happy ever afters again! I am hopeful that we get to see more of Sin and Charlotte in the next book in the series!

A surprise house party guest proves to be a widow’s true love

“The Seduction of Lord Sin” is my first book by Bronwen Evans and it is a fantastic introduction to her superior writing talent and outstanding storytelling ability. It is an imaginative tale of a wealthy young widow of an elderly husband who hosts a house party for potential matches. Her plan is to select the best mate from among them, since most are known to need cash to sustain their lifestyle as well as an heir. When an uninvited guest, who the widow is immediately attracted to shows up, the story turns into a surprise romance with a murder mystery thrown in. The characters are lovable, very personable and take hold of the readers heart with a plot that doesn’t allow putting the book down. I highly recommend this book and urge you not to miss this one.

The Seduction of Lord Sin puts a different twist on the Regency country party theme. Lady Charlotte Dexter was married young to an older man and now widowed. She longs for children so decides to host a party with only eligible men as guests. The attending men each need her dowery. Marcus Roberts, Duke of Sinclair, was not actually invited, but he comes with his friend. He has no need for money, but needs an heir. He is attracted to Charlotte and comes to admire her courage and determination. The problem? It would appear that she is barren.

I enjoyed this story of two people at cross-purposes who form an unlikely bond. There were some strong secondary characters and a little bit of intrigue. Charlotte had to overcome her feeling of inadequacy and discover that she might want more than she thought. Marcus had to overcome the bitterness of his first wife's betrayal. The story flowed nicely to a satisfying conclusion.

Bronwen is an auto-read for me. I believe I have read everything she has written (historicals) and every one of them is a winner. The concept of this story was so intriguing and unique. The players were masterfully written and the villain is not who I thought it would be. You got me Bronwen. I love the dancing around each other to come up with reasons they should be wed. But, as we all know, love wins out every single time. A wonderful read and I cannot wait to see how Dharma brings Devlin up to scratch. Oh, and it was nice to see Flora and James from book 1.

I have to confess that, after reading Dharma's book, I expected more and better from Charlotte and Sin. I admit, however, that I did not identify the perpetrator of the murder at all.

Confesso che, dopo aver letto il libro di Dharma, mi aspettavo qualcosa di piú e di meglio da Charlotte e Sin. Ammetto peró di non aver assolutamente identificato il colpevole dell'assassinio.

Charlotte and Lord Sin's Story . . .

Lady Charlotte Dexter, widowed wife of the Earl of Clayton, is wealthy. With time running out, she wants to find another husband who can give her a child, despite society’s rumors that she is barren. Her plan is to have a house party inviting only eligible men. After their week-long stay, she will choose one to marry. She was not expecting to see Marcus Roberts, the Duke of Sinclair, there. He had come along with one of his invited friends because he needs an heir. If she truly is barren, he should leave. But they are both attracted to each other. And it doesn’t take long for him to notice that he wants her for himself. In addition, there is a mystery to resolve where they must determine the identity of a killer.

I loved the story line, especially watching Charlotte and Sin fall in love. I truly had the feeling that their love was fated from the beginning and I am glad they had a chance to find each other. Will they find their HEA together? Will they identify the killer in their midst?

This is the second book in the series but it can be read as a standalone. Charlotte is a widow and is looking to marry again. She decides to host a house party where only men will be invited and at the end of the week, she will find her next husband. Marcus ends up attending the house party with a friend of his as he is looking for a new bride who is willing to be in a loveless marriage. What will happen when sparks fly between Charlotte and Marcus? Fast-paced read with loads drama, suspense and twists and turns. The chemistry is steamy in this Regency Romance and the story entertaining. I loved it.

This is a story of a duke—who has sworn never to love again since his first love ended tragically—and a widow who yearns for love and children of her own. There is also a curious mystery in which they become embroiled. It keeps a reader engaged, trying to figure out “whodunnit.” There are clues laid out, but almost all are red herrings.

The plot is strong, the characters likeable, but the story suffers from the reiteration of each of the main characters’ issues (over and over, page after page). Marcus Roberts, Duke of Sinclair, needs to find a wife and beget an heir. He is the last of his line and his lineage goes back to Anglo-Saxon times. He is resistant to loving because he loved his first wife--now deceased--who was faithless, and he cannot get over it. We read about this a lot, a whole lot!

Charlotte Dexter, Lady Clayton, is a wealthy widow who craves children excessively. Her monotonous monologues focus on time being fleeting and she absolutely must have at least one child who will depend on and love her exclusively because she believes herself to be too plain, too tall, too inadequate, and we read this a lot, a whole lot!

There are terms used that are either not used during Regency times or which sound wrong for that time period. For instance:
 Plain Jane: more than once our heroine refers to herself as a “plain Jane” and that term, as it is used here did not come about until 1902. There is a reference to the term in 1898, as in “plain Jane and no nonsense,” although this is not referring to an unpretty woman. Regency times predate the use of this term.
 The heroine also refers to herself as “a freakishly tall Amazon.” Not only is the heroine excessively down on herself, the phrase doesn’t set well. All four words are in use during Regency times, of course, but together they just seem out of place.
 The word, “Gosh,” hits a sour note. Although it is in use during Regency times, it was still an oath, an altered form of “God.” It’s used by Flora, the heroine’s best friend, and it seems unlikely that such an oath would be used by an aristocratic lady.
 The word, “darn,” is used as an interjection. It was a tame American curse word noted in 1781, used as a milder form of “damn.” It is said to have originated in the northeastern U.S. where swearing was punishable at that time. Mark Twain used it, spelling it “dern” in 1865. Regardless, even Regency bachelorettes would be unlikely to use the word as a curse word, if indeed they had even heard of it.

Our heroine is so very down on herself. At 25% completion, it had become excessive. Her self-denigrating is tiresome in the extreme. We readers are not stupid. We know—even without being told over a dozen times—that she feels unattractive, unimportant, unimpressive, and many more words beginning with “un-“.

There are some disconnects in the book. For instance, the heroine is out riding her horse, Sir Galahad, and we are told, “The horse often spooked at his own shadow….” She is unhorsed when he spooks and a few paragraphs later we are told, “Something must have spooked the gentle gelding….” So, is he an easy-going, gentle gelding or a high-spirited horse that spooks often?

There are some errors in the book, as well. For instance:
 The term “sit” vs. “set” seems to be a confusion for the writer. For instance, she tells us of “…the clock sitting on mantle….” Animate objects (like people and animals) sit and inanimate objects (like books or clocks) set. This should read, “…the clock setting on the mantle.”
 The word “skill,” when used as a verb is intransitive. In this sentence, the writer has made it transitive, and it pauses the reader: “We men do not skill young ladies with traits to make a living.” The sentence makes a reader stop and reread it in order to figure out from context what the writer is saying. I think the writer means to say, “We men do not instill in young ladies skills that allow them to make a living,” but I could certainly be wrong.
 There is a misplaced comma: “…make her feel so fragile, vulnerable,…yet still intensely feminine?” The comma after “vulnerable” is unnecessary since it is the end of a list of adjectives. It should read, “…so fragile, vulnerable…yet still intensely feminine.”
 This sentence has a couple errors in it: “Flora, and John will here.” First, the comma is superfluous and second, the sentence is incomplete. Flora and John will do what here? It might read, “Flora and John will remain here,” from the context of the paragraph.
 Quotation marks, used to indicate speaking, are problematic. At times they are left out and the reader must figure out that a character has stopped speaking: “…Take their horses and ride for Ivy Close. <- the sentence ends without quotation marks, and it appears the character is still speaking into the next paragraph.
 In this paragraph, there are two people speaking, but it’s difficult to discern this because we need some helpful quotation marks and a new paragraph separating the two speakers: “I’m going to find Dharma.” Sin nodded at his friend. “Try to talk some sense into her. And ensure she understands the danger she faces. I’m off to talk with Charlotte.” I think this is Devlin speaking first, telling Sinclair he is going to find Dharma. Then Sin nods and begins to speak, and he will go find Charlotte. Otherwise, it doesn’t make a lot of sense. One speaker would not be going after both Dharma and Charlotte; they are not together, actually, they are quite far apart physically.
 Here, Sin is thinking about what Charlotte said moments ago: “She’d agree to wait….” That should read, “She’d agreed to wait…” since it occurred in the past; a past tense form is required.
 The writer does not use object pronouns. This could be idiomatic of a character’s speaking, but it grates, and these are members of the aristocracy who would know better (one would think). For instance, “It’s always been Bella and I against the world.” The pronoun, “I,” is a subject pronoun used here as an object. This should read, more properly, as, “…Bella and me against the world.”

I rated this book 3.5 stars and rounded up because I liked the characters, even if they did get in a rut about their issues; I simply skimmed over the paragraphs that droned on repetitively. The supporting characters also seem alive, not simply useful pieces of cardboard used to move the hero and heroine around in the story. The mystery was involving, and I did not guess who the villain was. I’d narrowed it down based on who it wasn’t, but did not know until the villain was revealed. Then it all made sense. I’m unsure about reading the other two (at this time) books in the series. I like the writing but get tired of rereading about all the angst from the past that the heroes and heroines seem to have.

Description

From USA Today Bestselling author, Bronwen Evans, comes a tale of betrayal, lost love and redemption in this Regency romantic suspense.
Marcus Roberts, Duke of Sinclair, is all about duty, suddenly finding himself the last of his male lineage. He agrees to accompany his friend to Lady Charlotte’s house party because finding a bride is imperative. Preferably a widow with children. His wife’s death in the arms of his brother destroyed his faith in love—he’ll marry for convenience only—he won’t trust so easily again. All he needs is a bride who he is sure can give him sons. Imagine his shock at learning the only woman at the house party is a widow who is rumoured to be barren. He should leave but as he gets to know Charlotte, suddenly the idea of any of these men marrying her stirs the jealous beast.

𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄

Will he let his past pain write his future …

I confess I was quite surprised (gleefully) by the turn of events the party took.
It was not what would have expected, so even more welcome.
Charlotte believes her only option to finally have the children she longs for is to choose from a bunch of men desperate for fund, as she does not see herself as desirable.
She is a woman who honored the memory of her late husband, but now she wants to live for herself but the clock is ticking, she is no young debutante, and not being attractive, she resorts to what is her only option, so she thinks.
Sinclair was not invited nor expected to Lady Clayton’s party. And he understands quickly why, he has no need of a wealthy bride but will require a heir in the years to come. Yet this determined lady has caught his eyes from the first moment they meet again. And while he does not see him marrying a woman known for an inability to produce offsprings for her late husband, he struggles to see her wed to another man, even his friend who would do well with the lady’s inheritance.

Theirs is an unforeseen courtship as both have different view about marriage, they will both settle for a simple partnership but for opposite reason, Charlotte does not see her as lovable outside her present wealth, that she will never be enough as it has always been this during her whole life. Sinclair has known love and lost it, and learned a few things about it during the course of it, so he refuses to face the same pain once more, to engage his heart once more, even for a woman who unsettles him and throws him off balance.

I did not see the change of course of the story, as I expected a bachelorette and her bachelors kind of party with garden and lawn games.
A welcome surprise and entertaining twist of the usual country party.
I loved their chemistry, how he sees beyond her appearance and what is seen as flaws by other, and by her kindness and honesty, she slowly breaches his walls.
5 stars

While the cover is gorgeous, sad it is not historical related picture, as the women talking about corsets when they should be wearing stays over their shifts.

𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 onscreen foreplays and lovemaking scenes

I have been granted an advance copy by the author, here is my true and unbiased opinion.

Lady Clayton, now widowed Charlotte Dexter, did what an appropriate Lady of her era, married for duty. This gave her status & title for her younger sisters to marry well. Her older husband never
loved her. He was always hung up[ on his first wife who died. He had two children, who Charlotte loved as her own. However, in the 7 yr. marriage, he never came to consume their marriage. The ton believes she is barren, when in fact she has never been touched. Now almost 30 & a widow. She has a short amount of time to find a husband & get pregnant.

Charlotte is considered a wilting flower, her Batchelor's list of candidate's for husband material is small pickings. Charlotte & her best friend Fiona, (who has had two love marriages) have studied the current batch of ton bachelors, those they know are in dire need of a wealthy wife. They decide to hold a week long bachelor house party on Charlotte's estate. To catch... Her future fiancé, by the end of the week. On the top of the list is Lord Devlin, who have been family friends & in dire need to save his family Estate from his father's horrible investments. But in truth, Charlotte wants to marry for love, not out of obligation. Little does she know that her riding accident, might put a huge wrinkle in her plans. Which both her best friend Lady Fiona & step-daughter Lady Dhara are thrilled with. But unfortunately, for Lord Devlin & the other bachelors, are not to happy with Marcus Roberts, Duke of Sinclair's presents. Especially when the Duke finds out that there are no available women at this house party.

Marcus Roberts, Duke of Sinclair, is about honor, & duty. When he is suddenly the last of his male lineage. He must find a wife to make an heir for his lineage to continue. The problem with Marcus is that his heart was destroyed & he has lost the faith in love. Rightfully so, considering the way he found his wife. Dead, & in the arms of his brother. He thought he knew what love was. Nw he doesn't trust women & will only marry for convenience. Lord Sinclair believes a widow with children, would be the best idea for his second marriage.
When his friend Lord Devlin, convinced Marcus to attend Lady Charlotte's house party. He thought he was going to meet a potential bride for himself. Little does the Duke know that the house party was really a bachelor party for Lady Charlotte to meet her next husband.

What a shock for Lord Sinclair to learn that the party is for Lady Charlotte who is rumored to be barren to be the host, & auction of this house party. He knows he should leave the party considering he wasn't on the list of invitees' by the hostess, but as he gets to know Charlotte, suddenly the idea of any of the other male candidate's on Lady Charlotte's list stirs up jealousy. Even if the man she picks is his best friend Lord Devlin. The Lord that insisted he come to this house party for moral support to him. Read, this sensuous, loving, suspenseful, story of second chances, & 1st time desires. Will Lady Charlotte finally find out what love, & desire are? Will she break the wall down from the gorgeous, honorable, Lord Sinclair? Will Marcus, let his heart open up to love again? Will he trust Charlotte, that she would never betray or hurt him. Or will he walk away? Or will Charlotte lose her life, to one of the evil bachelor's in her home so they can get to her fortune.

Both characters have experienced bad from their first marriage, and it's not just because their spouses died and they became widowed. It's because of the love in the marriage that they're in. One is a lack of love, while the other one is too much that he didn't even notice what was going on until it was too late.

Going on to the characters, Charlotte Dexter is a unique woman. She thinks that her appearance makes her not attractive to other people. Well, it's not true. She just hasn't met the person who'll cherish her the way she deserves. She's a loving woman. You can really see or imagine while reading her scenes that she'll be, or well, is, a wonderful mother. An intelligent one, even her innocence makes her a cute one. Still, like most women, she needs love. Love from a child, or if she's lucky, from her husband-to-be. After all, we all get lonely at some point in time.

Marcus Roberts, most known as Lord Sinclair, is a guy who needs a woman who'll bear him a child. This is the reason why he agreed to accompany his friend to Charlotte's party, hoping to find a bride. I really think he's attractive to Charlotte the moment he saw her, but he's just not aware of his feelings. I mean, who gets jealous just by seeing her close to someone when he just met her. Coincidence? I think not. He's a really good guy, just that he's too worried about having a son. I get it. Having an heir is really important for them, and as the last male in his line, he really really needs to have a son.

Both became attracted to each other. Of course, they tried to fight it because their 'needs' and 'wants' didn't align (according to them). They became open with each other and told some personal things. At some point, they just really lost control. Can't really blame them, I mean, from the descriptions they're really both good-looking ones. Plus, the fact that they're trying to hide their desire for each other just makes it better. The love that they even have makes them stupid at some point because they're willing to risk their lives for each other.

All in all, the book is really a good one. There's a lot of love that was shown here. There's the familial, whether they're really blood-related or just in papers; the romantic love; and affectionate love that occurs between friends like Lotte and Flora. There's the courtship, the feeling of becoming whole as they learn how to love... again. There's also the suspense because of the twist that I didn't expect. Really, you'll learn a lesson here and for me, the best lesson that you can learn from here is that: We're all beautiful in our own ways. We have flaws, yes, but that makes us different. Don't make it a reason for you to tell yourself that you don't deserve love or be loved by someone. All of us deserve it, and you're worth it. Remember that.

The Seduction of Lord Sin, the second book in the Bachelorette Series.

Starting a new Bronwen Evans book is always an emotional experience for me, with stories that are forever touching my heart, with the kind of love that makes life worthwhile. Filled with wonderful, interesting characters that are unique, complex, and that have a way of wrapping themselves around my heart.

Widowed Charlotte Dexter, Lady Clayton, is needing desperately, to have children to love. Forced into a loveless marriage the first time, she is determined to do the picking this time around. So she decides to have a house party with a few select men that are in need of a wealthy wife, hoping that by the end of the week, one of her guests will be her fiancé.

Marcus Roberts, Duke of Sinclair, has suddenly found himself in quite the predicament. He needs to find a bride who can give him sons. So he agrees to accompany his friend Devlin to Lady Charlotte’s house party, to offer his support but also hoping that one of the ladies in attendance will be agreeable to a marriage of convenience only. Sin is unable to trust and is determined to never open his heart to another again, after his first wife’s betrayal with his brother, that ended in a scandalous murder-suicide. So imagine his shock when the only woman in attendance is a widow who is rumored to be barren. He really should leave but after getting to know Lady Charlotte suddenly the idea of any of the other men marrying her brings out his jealous side.

But when one of the men from her party is murdered, the hunt for the killer brings out Sin’s protective side and their attraction and trust grows.

Charlotte and Sin’s story had me grinning from ear to ear, and swooning hard for this unlikely couple. I was all in from their very first encounter. It was so much fun watching them trying to fight the attraction between them, as Charlotte looks at the other men to find a favorable husband. I loved their scorching chemistry and the sexual tension between them.

Every scene, every word written, every piece of the puzzle, that I want to get answers to, played with my emotions.

I felt their joy, their heartbreak, their loss, their attraction, and the love that emitted from the pages. I struggled to put this down just because I couldn’t wait to see what would happen next.

This was a beautiful romance, with a unique and totally different storyline, stunningly, beautiful, descriptions and characters that will completely captivate you. This is must read book you don’t want to miss.

Charlotte, a woman with a loving heart deprived of intimacy and longing for a love of her own, opens her eyes to more than she ever thought possible to gain in this angsty and heart-filled story. I wanted so much for Charlotte to be chosen for herself and I cringed when she would diminish her worth. From the details about her first marriage and the raising of her stepchildren, we can surmise that she is a kind and nurturing soul. Her dedication to helping others and putting them first is at the forefront of her motivations and personality-and I admired her for it. When she eventually took the initiative to go after the love she discovered she wanted I was so proud of her and it showed tremendous character growth in a short amount of time.

Sometimes when the plot takes a slight turn and ups the stakes, it pushes the characters to make active decisions and get out of their heads. I was glad to see that this story was not any different, and we get to see Lord Sinclair heal from heartbreak and betrayal. Although I know the story is going to end in an HEA, I still grappled with whether or not he would come around. And I liked that the author did not focus on his love building entirely from his physical attraction to Charlotte, but to the trust that was built between them because of how she treated Sin and loved him unconditionally.

I have to share a beautiful quote that summed up this novel for me:

"She stretched up, drew his head down, brought her lips close to his and murmured, 'I've always been yours. All my life, I've been waiting for you. We both had to go through heartache to find each other.'

This was a beautiful story that brought the angst, brought healing to two people who needed one another, and offered an epilogue in the distant future that I adored.

I would also like to add that the author noted that Charlotte's journey is very personal to her. I think that disclosure is poignant in that we are seeing some of Bronwen Evans in her work and the personal connection she has to this story makes it all the more special.

4.5 stars!
