In Z! VSE (book 3) Merritt, who is ever a good story teller, finally begins to emerge as a talented writer. You may be wondering why I suffered through the first two in this series to get to this point. The reason - it was fun to watch a good writer emerge and grow and become skilled in his craft. In book 3, he is not fully there but he is leaps and bounds better than when he started. He still needs someone to give him a thesaurus for Christmas/Hanukah/Eid/Samhain/Odin's Day (pick a holiday) so he doesn't keep repeating the same descriptive words over and over - but he is getting better! Proof that the way to become a better writer is to write.
Z! VSE is a good, exciting book with likeable characters and a believable narrative. The story continues from the previous two books with the adventures of several different groups of survivors in different places around the US. They are all just regular people trying to make it in the zombie apocalypse. They all seem to be converging over time which is a cool, long arc, plot element. I listened to the Audible version and Mike Thomas does an excellent job with the narration. His voice and accents fit the material well. Now, on to book 4!
