I could not stop reading this saga, as I had to know the end. That said, it is very poorly edited, badly done war\fight scenes, and all sorts of characters and "stuff" that just magically appeared in the story with no background. The story was good..... The writing was not....
the story was creative and well developed. The lower rating was because of poor editing/proofreading. Misused words. (Breaks for brakes throughout the books. Too for to far too frequently.) Poor punctuation. (Possessives not properly marked with apostrophes. Commas used at the wrong places or not used at all.) A simple Spelling and Grammar check would have caught the majority of the errors. In accurate geography. Look at a map of the USA and understand distances. (Little Rock, Mississippi doesn't exist, and if it did, it would not be on "the thirty" between Austin, TX and Lexington, KY. The errors made it difficult to stay focused on the tale. Fortunately, the tale was good enough to hold my interest in spite of the errors and the scattered use of British terminology throughout.
Good story utterly destroyed by the author's unbelievably poor grasp of the English language . The grammar, punctuation, and spelling were beyond ignorant and utterly too distracting to bother to finish the series. (Note to the author: I used "too" and "to" correctly. You might try it sometime in your writing.)
Sorry, but I'd advise anyone who's managed to obtain an education beyond 5th grade to avoid this author as the massacre of every rule of grammar, spelling, and punctuation is far more brutal and bloody than the storyline itself. Too bad - the premise of the book was awesome and I'm almost sorry I couldn't suffer through to the finish.
A rollicking adventure filled with strange beasts, aliens and equally nasty humans. We follow a band of (initially military prisoners) who escape at the start of the book. An enjoyable fast paced book which has various bands of protagonists running about here, there and everywhere getting into all sorts of scrapes and situations. However, there are some absolute howlers of spelling mistakes and basic grammatical errors all the way through, some of which had me laughing out loud, better proof reading needed.
This was an interesting 8-book series, w/decent plotting & interesting characters...but - oh-my-GOD - the errors, poor grammar, & lack of editing was appalling! At times, the tale is almost unreadable due to the poor grammar. If I were the author, I would be ashamed of this product & demand it be fixed. 5 stars for the story & characters, but NO stars for grammar & editing.
Ever wonder what would happen if the animals of the world turned against mankind ?, Wonder no more jump into this series a follow an eclectic group of people who not only try to survive the strange New world have amazing adventure s all while exploring the new creatures and crazy world around them. You won't regret buying the series and it will keep you on the edge of your seat hold on for a wild ride.
As a civilization ending event this was original. I enjoyed the new animals/creatures and their relationships to their handlers. What I did not enjoy was Abbey,,by the third kidnapping and the fifth book I was so over her. Zach was okay, yet it was the surrounding characters that made it all interesting. From Mo and Mr. Teeth to Sam, Isaiah, Cal, Klept, the UFO watcher Brad or the tribe of intelligent primates, they were what kept the story moving.
I loved this series. The story was different from all others I've read. The only problems were misspellings, words missing in sentences which at times made me reread sentences to try and figure what the author was trying to say. All in all Phil Maddy did a pretty respectable job.
I liked the storyline of this series. I could've done without a few scenes, but despite that, the storyline moved along. I will say the series could use some editing as there's a significant amount of typos, misspelled and misused words. Noticeable enough to jar a reader from the story. Despite that, I would recommend this to people!
Anxiety producing series. Could turn it into a sci-fi movie. Probably not the best series to read during a worldwide pandemic and these volatile times we live in, but some how it fit right in with 2020.
Cascade Box Set Books 1-8 - A Series Worth Reading
Phil Maxey penned a series to hold your interest through all eight books. A well done plot with great characters. This combines good Post Apocalyptic fiction with good Sci-fi for an outstanding set of books.
The stories had no build up, like the zombie one - starts ten days in. The ash one with the fires, no real explanation it just jumps into a fire, etc and so on.
It seems like this was just a writing exercise someone put out as novels. A good idea but terrible execution.
So much action! Just a delight to read, romance in war. Animals enhanced into creatures unimaginable. Aliens and going into space with aliens that are friends. I am going to read all of Phil Maxey's books.
I read all of these eight books with going to work and sleeping getting in the way. Really great series, you get involved with the characters. Would make a fantastic film or series. So looking forward to reading more of Phil's books.
This series has everything. Monsters, aliens, mutants, and bad people. It is filled with action, loss, victories and a wee bit of romance. These books made sure I didn't get much sleep for several days. I'll be looking for more from this author.
I have read this series back to back over three days. Kept me totally enthralled. Thoroughly enjoyed every book and shall look for more from this incredible author with an amazing imagination.
A thrill ride from start to finish!! If you like Post Apocalyptic books with Aliens, romance and great fight scenes thrown in then this book is for you!
A really great series, one of the first I read by this writer & he had me hooked from the first paragraph of the first story! I do recommend for all that love this genre!
