Blake~
I finally had my baby girl back home, but she came with a little baggage in the shape of her best friend. I could deal with that for some more time with my daughter. Only problem is, Bay's not exactly what I'd expected. I'd been through hell and back with my ex, but even that didn't compare to the turmoil that girl causes me. My stomach aches every time she's in the room with me, and we're drawn like magnets, but she can never be anything to me. Bay is young, vibrant and beautiful, and totally off limits. My daughter's best friend has finally injected some color back into my dull life, and I can't seem to give her up.

Bay~
It was financial desperation that had me moving in with Georgia's Dad. Her and I had been friends since we were kids, but with her parents long divorced, I'd never met the man. Now, with my boxes unpacked and my backpack ready to start college, I was settling down into a room across the hall from her, and her dad. The man is sin, wrapped in work boots and a blue collar, and I can't help but capture him in the frame of my camera. It was blaspheme to let such perfection go to waste when it could be encapsulated in film forever. But then he became more than a subject, he became my muse. Right or not, accepted or not, I had to have him. And nobody could stop me.
Nobody but HIM.

L.L. Ash is a Washington-born writer who has traveled and lived across the western coast of the US. She lives in Utah with her husband and 3 kids, all of which are a handful!

Ash has been writing fiction since she was 11 years old, and finished her first full-length romance novella at 12. While her writing has improved since then, her love for literature has not changed. Oftentimes you can find Ash reading an indie romance or enjoying a historical fiction. She has been an artist for decades but found her true love and passion in romances.

But Ash is not content to write a romance with untried characters or predictable ‘happily ever afters’. Ash strives to create honest stories revolving around struggling heroins and bruised heroes, both trying to find happiness and acceptance, just like we in real life do. She writes about real struggles and real hardships, often giving the characters a tarnished facade. But through the constant loving and hating of the characters, you will fall in love with them as they grow and change and evolve through the stories.

As Ash always says, it’s all about real romance for real life.

*SPOILERS*I am so disappointed in this book. On paper, this sounds like the exact kind of book I would love, but it just didn't live up to my expectations. I was expecting something similar to Penelope Douglas's Birthday Girl and this was pretty much the knockoff, unedited version of that.

This book is basically about a nineteen year old girl, named Bay, who moves out of state with her best friend, Georgia, to go to college. She doesn't have the funds for on campus housing so she lives with Georgia and Georgia's somewhat estranged dad, Blake. Over time, Blake and Bay start to fall for each other and this is basically their love story.

First off, the sheer amount of grammatical errors in this book! I was flabbergasted that I couldn't go more than 5 pages without finding one. They were so bad, in fact, that I have a hard time believing the author had any editor read through this, let alone read through it herself. I try really hard not to let that kind of stuff taint my enjoyment of the book but when it's so glaringly prevalent, I can't help but be annoyed.

Then, there were several instances where it seemed like the author forgot where she was at in a conversation or what her characters were doing. One really weird instance was when Bay was telling Blake about her upcoming date with a boy from school:

"I've got a date tomorrow," I told him, hoping that maybe he'd be relieved by the fact.
His fingers tightened around his pizza and broke the crust down the middle as he asked, "With who?"
"Someone from school," I managed. "Not that it's your business."

Like bitch what?? You literally just brought it up out of nowhere. It's not like he was asking an irrelevant question.

Another weird thing that happened was at the start of Chapter 21 when Georgia comes walking in the door and literally the first thing her dad asks her is "So, you dating anyone?" Like how fucking weird and out of the blue is that? It was just so random that I wondered why the author didn't build to that question or something, because that's definitely not a normal thing to ask someone before you even greet them.

The final weird thing that I'm gonna complain about is when Bay's mom calls her to warn her that her dad is on the way to Blake's house to beat the shit out of him, after finding out about Bay and Blake. It's literally a 17 hour car ride for him to get to Blake's house and somehow the mom doesn't manage to call her daughter until the dad is already there wailing on Blake. Like how? She tries to play it off saying that she didn't call earlier because she figured the dad would cool off and turn around but I think after several hours had passed, without him returning, I probably would've been picking up the damn phone to call my daughter. It's like the author forgot how far apart they lived from each other or something. Or she just wanted the fighting scene to be super cinematic and was hoping the reader would forget that little detail.

Also, the dialogue and situations in this book felt fairly juvenile to me. I think these girls were supposed to be 19 but it read like they were much younger.

Overall, I think this story had some real potential. I just don't think this author does anything for me. So sadly this will probably be the one and only book I pick up from her.

Alright, so this cover makes this seem like a very dark romance. But it is actually one of the happiest Age Gaps I have ever read.

Oh there is still some angst, there just naturally is when you are dealing with this kind of couple.

It reminded me a lot of Birthday Girl, but with the unwanted party in the house being the heroine's best friend and not the hero's son. I loved the ramp up of the attraction and I love when the younger woman has to pursue because the man is too good to breech that space himself.

Bay moves with her best friend Georgia to stay with Georgia's dad for their first year of college. He welcomes them in without ever having met Bay, but he wants his daughter not to have to worry about a job and he misses her after his ex kept a space between them for the last many years.

Right away there is a serious heat between Blake and Bay. He is only 35, having had his daughter with his ex at 16. When Georgie ends up moving into a Sorority house and leaving the 2 alone, it doesn't take long before Bay and Blake give into their attraction.

Blake feels like a jerk and wants Bay to have all the experiences that a girl her age should have. Bay doesn't know why she would want to down grade to a college boy when she can have a fully formed version.

Like I said in the opening, this is the best version of this scenario I have ever read. Its a fairy tale and it made me so happy. I was smiling all the way through and I enjoyed it so much.

I wanted all the best for these two crazy kids. It was just fun!

”I had a nice little folder filled with pictures of him that would keep me and my toys busy for a while. Oh, don’t you even judge me. I absolutely knew it was creepy, but he’d never find out.”

Fourth read and it still gives me all the feels. The emotions that LL Ash gives Blake are just *chefs kiss*

I've read this book three times now, it's still amazing!!!

Holy wow! 10 stars! I had put off reading this for a bit because it was rated 4 stars or just slightly below 4 stars and I'm kicking myself. This book is awesome! Blake is my new book boyfriend, he's everything you want sweet, masculine, family oriented, knows what he wants, isn't afraid to express his feelings. Bay really was an older soul which they mention several times. Sometimes authors throw that into age gap romances and I don't feel it's true but this time I could really sense it. She really was more like a mother/good influence over Georgie than a friend and she was very domestic which is just what Blake needed. I volunteer to take Bay's place! It's just a beautiful story of falling in love with the right person and about family.

I want to address a few of the negative comments that i read. I didn't feel like it was littered with grammatical errors. I found a few but that's not unusual for an ebook. I feel like I've seen much higher rated books with many more errors. Some people mentioned editing. There were a few places in the beginning of the book that I thought the timeline jumped around a little clumsily but it quickly straightened out and I didn't have any other issues with things like that.

Loved this book, it's definitely on my re-read shelf, I almost can't wait to re-read it. If you like forbidden romances and age gap romances this is a must read!

A lot of the reviews compare this book to Birthday Girl, by Penelope Douglas, which I love. The reviews said that this is essentially the same, but not as good, but I didn’t mind. That said, this book reads a little like Birthday Girl fan-fiction. To the point where it seems like plot points were lifted from that book. Elements from the hero’s occupation to the psychotic and borderline abusive ex are all similarities with the Penelope Douglas book.
All that said, this is still an entertaining book if you like this trope (which I do--like is an understatement!). There’s not much angst, but the book does deliver on those fun scenes where character’s families find out about their “forbidden” relationship, and I live for that stuff. Still, not particularly angsty, but it’s a light and entertaining read. 3.5 stars

This was the sweetest age gap. I loved it. Blake was such a good man, mature, protective, affectionate. Bay was super mature for her age, and knew what she wanted out of life. I very much appreciated an age gap where they were both mature. And sweet. And good to each other.

Bellissimo 😍.

Loved this!

It kinda surprised me how much this story just grabbed my attention and sucked me in. I did not want to stop reading and went into work late two separate mornings so I could get “just a chapter” in 🙄😬
Blake and Bey’s story was constant forward momentum. There was no dramatic misunderstanding at 80% where one or both run from the other. Their struggles to accept the relationship were real, but beautifully done with compassion and heart. And heat. Lots of heat. ;)
Conflict mostly came from outside sources, allowing Blake and Bey to bond and grow. I loved it!

Honestly can’t believe this is being compared to Birthday girl. It lacked plot, depth and intensity. There was barely any chemistry. The plot was similar but not even close to how good and heart felt birthday girl was. This was a blah read.

Even if it wasn’t being compared to birthday girl it just seemed so...blaisé. It was honestly boring. There was no real conflict, there was barely any back and forth, it was just not a good read.

But like to add- hot sex scenes. 2% plot and like 100000% porn. As seen: on my basically porn shelf lmao

3 and 1/2 stars. Not a bad book but it had a few characters that I found suuuuuper irritating--especially the heroine's BFF/hero's daughter. OMG, I wanted to write myself into the book as a tertiary character just so I could slap her in her stupid face. Otherwise, pretty good, I would try more by this author.

HIM by L. L. Ash is a recommendation I came across in my quest to read romances that feature huge age gaps and follows tropes similar to that of Birthday Girl by Penelope Douglas & some of my other favorite reads that I have read along those lines.

The story starts with the heroine Bay moving into her best friend Georgia’s home, who lives with her 35 year old father Blake Hamel. Blake agrees to the deal because he has missed out on a lot when it comes to Georgia’s life, with the nasty split between him and his ex having driven a wedge where he wanted none when it comes to his daughter.

Even though Bay does not want to be a burden to anyone and does more than her fair share of everything around the house, she cannot help but feel like she is not wanted, especially with the way Blake tries to avoid her at first. Blake for his part, is in sheer agony from wanting something he shouldn’t, from having illicit thoughts featuring him with none other than his daughter’s best friend.

But once Georgia moves out in a stint to exert her independence and walk the path as approved by her mother, that serves to be the tipping point in the relationship which comes to light between Bay and Blake. Even though Blake tries to resist, he is no match for the more tender variety of emotions that Bay invokes in him, and before they both know it, both of them are too emotionally vested in each other for it to be easy to walk away from.

I loved both Bay and Blake and the story that unfolded, even though there existed much potential which could have been explored to deepen the impact on readers. I liked the fact that Ms. Ash knew how to maneuver around the subject with sensitivity that did not leave the reader with a sour aftertaste when all was said and done.

Recommended for fans of romances featuring protagonists with huge age gaps and taboo tropes.

Final Verdict: Ms. Ash does a splendid job in bringing to life the love between Bay and Blake, with just enough characterization & sensitivity in the mix to do the trope justice.

Rating = 4/5

The COVER 😋😋😲💗💗sooooo sexy...its like you can't unseen it and you just Cannot avoid reading it after seeing the cover...
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The synopsis will get you to the reading part and it's just too much for me to think and then theree is the birthday girl comparison but it's NOT that.. because the only thing common in both the books are that the hero is the dad of heroine's friend and that heroine is living under the same roof .. and finally when I read it...its so different that the hero in this book is more acceptable and he realises the inevitable sooner rather than later and act on it without second guessing everything...(although he did that at first but then its alright) ......heroine is also acceptable and admirable for her sass and attitude... and kind heart .....
📚📚
The cover was something I want to talk about too.. As after reading it and in a particular scene you will realise that the cover will actually be the photo taken by heroine from her camera as a random shot and that was like the moment I thought was realistic and admirable that we'll be dived into it as a matter of the book cover be in truth be a photo taken..will be like it's real..
📖📖📖
That scene was thoughtful of the author to make it more realistic regarding the cover be the one in said scene...
💙💜💙💜💙
Loved it..so much..

If you like taboo romance but don't want to dive into the deep end and be freaked out, I think this is a great book. It's tame taboo as strange as that sounds.
The story follows Bay and Blake. Bay and her best friend are headed off to college and they both end up living with her friend's dad, Blake. Her friend move out pretty quickly but Bay stays.
Yes, it's age gap and taboo, but this book was actually kind of sweet and soft. Their sex scenes aren't really all that hot or steamy, but it's their relationship and their love for each other that makes this one a winner. They fit together so well. Their goals and hopes line up so perfectly. Since Blake had such a rough go of it with being kicked out by his family at 16 when they found out he knocked up a girl, becoming a dad at 16, and getting divorced from the mother of his child (who is not a nice human), having Bay love him so completely and unconditionally was so tender and wholesome. With all that in his past Blake finally had someone choose him and love him, while also having someone he completely loves and adores.
It's fiction but I can picture the beautiful future they have, full of love and domestic bliss. It's like a dream.

♡ age gap (older man, adults)
♡ taboo
♡ best friend's father
♡ forbidden

This was one of the books that I read when I did the First Chapter Challenge and I was immediately sucked in. It's hard not to compare this book to Birthday Girl when there are so many parallels, and it is definitely to its detriment because it doesn't live up to that book, unfortunately. I think, because there were so many things it had in common with Birthday Girl, I wanted the same type of slow burn and fated mates level of connection between the hero and the heroine, but I just wasn't feeling it in this one. Setting aside the comparisons, this book was good, I think if you like age gaps/taboo/forbidden romances and insta-lovey romances, you'll like this one.

Triggers: Age gap, taboo

3.5⭐️: This was a cute book. It was very similar to Birthday Girl by Penelope Douglas, except it wasn’t the boyfriend’s dad, but the best friend’s dad. That one was a slow burn and it felt more sexy because of that. The sex didn’t hit me as much for this one, but it was still enjoyable. It’s hard not to compare the two books, but what you do when they are similar? 🤷🏼‍♀️

💋Recensione per il blog New Adult e dintorni💋

Approda in Italia L.L.

I loved loved this book. This wasn’t an age gap taboo read to me this was a great love story about a man and a woman falling in love. This book definitely gave me the same enjoyment that I had with Birthday Girl by Penelope Douglas. I totally liked Blake and Bay together as a couple. There were definitely steamy moments in the book and I definitely hated to get to the end. You don’t have to read Birthday Girl in order to get wrapped up in this read but you will want to read both books. This book is definitely worth five stars. Happy reading !!!!!!

Nobody would care how we got along. Nobody would care that we had the same kind of humor or that where her talents ended, mine began. Nobody would give a single shit that we fit together like two pieces of a puzzle because I was born in a different decade and already had a kid her age. I would be looked on as a pervert, not a man who was falling in complete lust with a girl who should have been off limits.

I'm not gonna the lie, the first 40-50% is this book, the writing really sucked.

Okay not literally suck but it was enough to not impress me and call it a basic 3⭐ read.

But then the climax? OHLALAAAAA. When the steam started building up and feelings started to catch, I was like...okay. I SEE YOU what you're doing there L.L Ash

Thankfully it lasted out throughout the book.

This book was really sweet and funny, and can I just say I LOVE THE HEROINE. You don't ever hear me saying that, but wow. Full appreciation to her because she literally said:

I see it, I like it, I want it, I got it

Ending definently felt too rushed to me because whatever the plot's conflict was, it echoed in each chapter without break and literally ten million things happened at once.

But I really liked this book, just wish the beginning was written and edited better.

He had a nice, sexy and casual outfit that would get him through as many first dates as it took for him to find love. Whether I had a crush on him or not didn’t bear any weight on the fact that I wanted to see him happy, and he just looked too sad most of the time. The man deserved love, even if the thought of him with someone else made me crazy with jealousy.

You’re beautiful, you know that?”
“You’ve only told me about a million times today,” she said with a grin, lifting onto her toes to try and steal a kiss.
I pulled my head back just enough to say in a whisper, “Not just physically. Every part of you is beautiful, Bay. Pretty is subjective and fading. The parts of you that are beautiful will never fade unless you let them. That’s the kind of woman you are.”

"I love that you have ambitions, but you don’t put everything aside in order to achieve them."

Nobody had ever chosen me before. Not my parents, not Tiffany, not Georgia. Nobody ever picked to be with me, they were just...stuck with me.

“How cliché.” I laughed and his eyes twinkled with happy amusement. “It’s a perfect fit.”

I am absolutely NOT ashamed to say that I picked this book up for the cover. That man. That side profile. That beard. That cigarette. That flame. That black and white effect. Mmmhm. The cover alone gets 5/5 but that's not what we're here for, are we?

Now before going any further, I should mention that I officially stopped reading at 45%. I didn't fully DNF it but I skipped it all the way to the juicy bits.

This book just wasn't for me. I see people comparing it to Penelope Doughlas's Birthday Girl hence leaving poor reviews because this book didn't live up to their expectations that they had after reading Doughlas's book (or so, that's what it feels like) but for me, that's not the case. See, I've read Birthday Girl and I wasn't a fan of that book. Nor am I not a fan of this book either.

And it's not because of the age gap trope. I love it. In fact the trope was one half of the reason why I got the book. I love me some big age gap, forbidden, taboo, messy love story with panty wetting sex scenes.

... but that's not what I got.

The characters especially the main girl, Bay, was too mature, utterly boring with absolutely little to no personality. The dad was just a bore too. Supposedly hot, but a bore nonetheless. The justification we got was that they were "old souls" but come on, give us SOMETHING.

Still, I stuck it out waiting for the chemistry, the sex scenes and the overbearing angst and forbidden element to kick in.

Unfortunately for me, I would be waiting forever for that chemistry because it wasn't there. I never felt nothing between the two characters that screamed 'FUCK ME NOW'. It was like reading about a pair of 95 year old's (again refer to 'old souls' comment).

The sex scenes were so tame and might aswell have been fade to black. The angst and the forbiddeness? Yeah no. Not there either.

This is a book with potential but it just needed the right guidance. Still, the fact that I couldn't DNF completely without checking the epilogue to see how it works out for them struck something in me. Couldn't have been that bad after all.

Why. Why do I do this to myself. Well my kindle recommended this to me, which is concerning because you would think my kindle knows me best. I do not trust her anymore I'll tell you that. What an absolute worthless read. I didn't truely know what a book slump was until right now. So if you see an unhinged dark read on my tbr next you know why...because this has pushed me to it and I need to feel alive again.

Okay, I'm not sure if I've been awarding too many 5 stars to books recently, but they're simply that fantastic! I believe this book is deserving of all five stars and much more. It's fantastic, and I can really identify with the main characters. To be honest, love is love, and I'm all for it. I understand that some people may disagree, but I don't care. If you don't like forbidden romance, simply don't read it. However, you must understand that they are both adults, and Bay (the main character) is mature for her age.

I really enjoyed this fast paced and simple read. The characters were sweet and the plot like I said was very fast paced. It reminded me of Birthday Girl by Penelope Douglas, so if you enjoyed that I highly recommend this and vice versa.
Enjoy!

Extended Review:

I have gotten several likes on this review and figured I should give it a more in-depth analysis because the original review was so short. So here it is;

Blake our main male character is excited to invite his daughter home for her extended education but there is a catch, his daughter wants to bring her best friend with her. Bay our main female character, is a smart girl who is struggling financially. She is more than grateful when her friend invited her to live with her in her father's house. Bay soon realizes that that might not have been the best idea when she sees just how gorgeous Blake is.

Their romance is completely forbidden and the age gap between them doesn't help. I loved this story I have read it several times. As I mentioned above it is incredibly similar to Birthday Girl by Penelope Douglas. Because the daughter of Blake starts to act up and ends up leaving the house which leaves Bay and Blake alone to start their romance just like in Douglas' novel.

This forbidden Troup is a favorite of mine. And I always recommend this when I'm talking about forbidden romance novels that are similar in dynamic/relationships. Another novel I compare it to is His Father by A.E. Murphy.

Although this story isn't anything new the small details that make it whole are really sweet and full of passion. I highly recommend this read to other forbidden romance readers. As always... enjoy!

2.5 stars.
Honestly, it didn't even bothered me the trope but everything else did.
Firstly, the constant bashing against strippers. "You drink, you're becoming a stripper" "you wear too tall heels, you're becoming a stripper" "the girl changed her name to Gigi and it was way to stipper name" it really felt dirty to read.
Georgie literaly did everything she wanted. Whatever the hell she wanted to do selfishly and NOBODY gave a single shit. "I kept my mouth shut, because that's what a good friend does" Whose friend? because the friends I know, would've calle her narccisistic and manipulative ass ages ago.
This book was just umcomfortable to read. Blake was... I can't even find a words because I don't really care about the age gap or the forbiddent aspect of it all. I care about Blake being a man who acted and thought most of the time like a kid. He wasn't an adult attracted to a younger woman, it felt like he was just wrong.
Bay, what can I say? For moments they tried to make her look so mature and adult-ish and they made her seem like a maid instead; because to be mature you don't exactly need to know how to clean a house and prepare every meal. Outdated concepts.
A doormat had more personality than her to be honest.
The "romance" and the sex it didn't felt like buid up or a slow burn it was more like... they playing and yeah... it wasn't right for me. The entire tone of the book was off.

So first off this was a good book. Was it great? At times. Did it leave me feeling everything and thinking about it well after I finished the book? No

I took 1 star off solely for how annoying Georgia is throughout the whole book. I mean she’s a complete spoiled, entitled B****! I’ve never been so annoyed with a supporting character before.

Spoilers in next paragraph!!!!

Bay and Blake. They are super cute. I just wish there was more angst between the two. There was also not a lot of drama or any conflict. Everyone handled finding out about their relationship really well. I kept waiting for to see what was going to pull them a part, but nothing ever did. I was disappointed with that.

It was cute love story with some steamy sex thrown in. HEA guaranteed. If you like age gap romance then this story is for you.

This story would have been better if there was more angst and less of Georgia. She only got worse as the story went on.
