Vyker is the third book in the Brides to Beasts science fiction romance series set in the Athenaverse. It can be read as a standalone, but it still shares the same universe that you’ve found in other books. This book features a dark romance of an alpha male alien warrior, and a human woman. No cheating, no cliffhangers, and HEA guaranteed.

Athena Storm is the pen name for two authors who fell in love with writing science fiction romance as they fell in love with each other.

She's the Athena. And he's the Storm. Athena hopes that one day it won't be a boyfriend/girlfriend writing duo, but a husband/wife team. But she's not pressuring at all. Not one bit.

Science fiction is the biggest love for the writing duo, and they've been doing the writing for quite some time now, building a universe that readers can get lost and explore in. Filled with big bad alien warriors, sassy human women who give as well as they get, hilarious situations, and enough steam to melt stars!

The duo have created the Athenaverse, where all books in all series are tied together. You can start anywhere but once you do, you'll want to explore them all!

When they get married, they plan to continue writing science fiction romance forever. But again, no pressure on the marrying part. Not at all. (Not like writing Happily Ever After ALL Day won't give you any ideas on its own, right?)

Alien sci-fi

Enjoyable read, there were sections that were very funny. Human refugee finally passes the skills to become a companion, she matched up with someone who doesn’t want a bride, from there they have many adventures

I stopped at 18%. Way too crude for me and that’s saying something. It detracts from the story....don’t know why authors feel they have to do that. One Star.

Second read: Actually read the entire book. Up to 45% the story is sex. So disappointing when authors do that. There’s an actual romance here but when sex is primary you have to wonder if the romance is solely because of the sex. We all know how fleeting that kind of ‘love’ can be. Anyway, changed from 1 Star to 2 with massive disappointment still hanging over this read.

Yikes. This is usually the kind of sci-fi book I enjoy but it's warp speed from the beginning in terms of their "relationship". I prefer more buildup. Vyker, the H, is pretty unlikable. The day before he meets (and fucks) the heroine, he's kicking (literally) his latest one night stand out of bed, pissed that she didn't leave before he wakes up. The MCs, Vyker and Penny, have sex within about an hour of meeting.

Penny comes across as very free and unconcerned with showing off her body and doesn't give much thought to having unprotected sex with her potential new mate. I know she was training to become a companion and she's a refugee human living on different planets and just trying to survive so I guess she's become resilient and deals with her circumstances pragmatically.

I’m making my way through this because I can’t wait to read the part where she leaves him , but it’s hard slogging through this.

This is not the first Athena Storm book that I’ve struggled through and I think I just really dislike her sex scenes. I can’t stop cringing at almost every other word she uses. She uses the coarsest terms whenever possible. Twat shouldn’t ever be used in a romance book if you’re referring to a vagina. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind cunt used if the H can pull it off without sounding like a major dick. The word Ingress is used 1,000x more than any other romance book I’ve read (here’s a challenge: find one other romance book where that word was used. Bet it will be a challenge!) there’s other more common synonyms to replace ingress and whenever the narrators said it, I rolled my eyes. Penetrate actually sounds sexy, ingress sounds ridiculously not sexy. Ugh every sex scene made me cringe and grimace.

It is the year 2338 and humans have formed the Interstellar Human Confederation and have joined with the aliens in their Trident Alliance. On the planet Felora VI at the Alliance Academy the best drill sergeant in the entire Alliance, Vyker, is summoned to his CO's office and told that he must marry or resign. Although this had to be a bluff the CO insisted and Vyker had to agree to receive this woman. Previously, the CO had interviewed the woman, a voluptuous athletic woman in her mid-thirties, a former acrobat, before becoming a refugee from her planet Armstrong which was destroyed in the war. Now she is subsisting on the equivalent of food stamps and is desperate to escape. Although Penelope Pierce fails the interview technically she still impresses the CO who thinks she is right for Vyker. Meeting Vyker is a treat as Vyker rejects her in spite of her beauty and curviness but the CO suggests a shooting contest which Penny wins straight. They then are so attracted to each other that they have hot sex. Vyker loves her feistiness and the sexual attraction is intense. But Penny is insecure despite Vyker himself changing his ways and accepting even enjoying her. One morning she tells the CO she has to leave and does so. Vyker comes home and is crazed and demands his CO inform her location and then pursues her. The bad news Reapers raid her ship. Rescue is required. Interesting also to read about 17 lanes of hovercraft traffic lanes, vertical, and 500 story skyscrapers. Scorching hot space romance. Received this ARC and have voluntarily reviewed.

Vyker is a Vakutan in charge of training the new recruits for the Alliance Forces on Felora VI. He is a no nonsense, no frills kind of guy. When he gets called into his superiors office (Luz) and reprimanded for being too hard on the new recruits, he is given a choice. Resign his commission or take a bride from the Companions Outreach Program. He is horrified by either choice, but decides to take the bride, secretly deciding he will just run her off with his bad behavior.
Penny is a survivor from the planet of Armstrong. She is barely surviving and decides to join the Companions Outreach Program. She is almost flunking out when she is called in to “perform” for Luz as a possible bride for Vyker. She manages to set the kitchen on fire and insult her trainer who kicks her out of the program. Luz thinks she is hysterical and has spunk, which she will need for Vyker, and takes her. This is her last chance at any kind of future and she is determined to succeed!
Well, sparks definitely fly when the two meet, but after several skirmishes they decide they like each other and want to try and make it work. Everything is going well, until Penny get “cold feet” and flee’s the planet. Vyker races after her when he finds her gone and stow’s away on the transport vehicle she is on. Of course, the ship is commandeered by the dreaded “Reapers” so Vyker must rescue Penny. A funny and quick moving story. You will fall in love with both of these characters!

Penny and Vyker are both a bit unconventional, and in ways that make them a great pair. Vyker is set in his ways, but Penny is someone who keeps him on his toes. After challenging him physically, aesthetically, mentally, sexually, and in the culinary arts, he is still set in his ways, but his way now involves Penny. Penny, a gymnast and refugee has always had a transient life, meanwhile, has her fears that nothing good ever lasts.
The first portion of the book centers around the comical interactions between the Vyker and Penny. The second portion introduces us to yet another faction in this warring universe. The reapers are one of the more deplorable groups we've seen, but with a backstory that could prove to be interesting. This volatile group gives Penny's sly ways a time to shine, and despite the darker nature of this plot point, managers to bring humor and satisfaction to the story.

These Vakutan men make me scream with laughter. They are so cocky and arrogant and Vyker is one of the worst, I especially love how they refer to humans as "squishy". Vyker could have a good future in his career but he is way too hard on his recruits and that could put an end to his career if he can't find a way to soften up. His commanding officer arranges a companion for him. Vyker is determined to treat her so badly that she leaves but he doesn't bargain on their instant chemistry and the way that Penny makes him feel. I really liked Penny, she is a survivor who has done whatever is necessary to survive and becoming a companion was her latest attempt at survival and even though the agency didn't exactly think she was an ideal candidate Vyker's commanding officer thought her fire and spunk were exactly what Vyker needs. I loved the characters and the story was well-written and entertaining.

Vyker is the best drill instructor the Alliance has. Unfortunately he tends to be a little intense, and after his new class of recruits all end up passing out, his commanding officer gives him an ultimatum. Take a bride from the companion program or find a new job. Penny has been a wrestler and an acrobat and now is trying to get by with the money she receives as a person displaced by the ongoing war. The companion program is her chance for something better. Neither Vyker nor Penny expects anything good to happen and are quite surprised when they like each other. Now they just have to work through their pasts and some unexpected drama. I received an advance copy of this book and voluntarily left a review.

"A Stunning Alien Romance series"
The storyline is exciting. The characters are unique with awesome personalities.
Vyker is a sexy Vakutan Alien soldier. He is Sergeant Master first class with the Barakus military Academy.
He is also a sexy playboy. Then one day the academy headmaster calls Vyker into his office. He informs Vyker that Vyker is next in line to become the next headmaster. Only Vyker must do something first. He must find himself a wife. Luz the headmaster gets Vyker a mail order bride.
Penelope aka Penny has lived a rough life. To survive she signs up to be a mail order bride. Luz meets her and believes Penny is just what Vyker needs. Vyker tries to fight his attraction to Penny. Penny meanwhile tries not to lose her heart to this sexy Alien!
You will love this funny,exciting, and scorching hot Alien romance story and series.

Vyker has the nickname of Sgt Smiley as he never does but then it is suggested he needs a wife.
Sergeant Master First Class Vyker of the Barakus Military Academy is known a Sgt Smiley as he never does so at work but he is known for producing the best soldiers. Then Headmaster Luz comes up with the idea that Vyker needs a female in his life and seeks one from the Companion Academy. Penny Pierce has survived much and is hoping that the Companion Academy can find her a place and get her out of the hand to mouth existence she has been living. The seven foot plus drill sergeant is shocked to see the five foot two human female who had arrived for him.

Vyker trains recruits at the academy and loves women. His boss thinks him to hard and orders an arranged marriage. Penny is a "bride to be" but not a very good one. She is to go to Vyker. Penny has spirit and fight in her and Vyker likes that. An attraction begins. They make a deal and have a contest. Which Penny wins. Maybe it won't be so bad after all. Penny makes changes in Vyker's life and he actually likes them. Things are going well until she starts to doubt everything. Penny leaves but Vyker is not letting her go. He barely sneaks aboard the ship she is on. Reaper pirates attack the ship. Between Penny and Vkyer they fight there way out of that situation with a little help. How will it all end? Loved the book and ending.

This is a book with lots of laughter, action and of course sex.the characters are amazing. Penny (a human) has done a lot...from mud wrestling, to circus performer, to mail order bride. Vyker is a Vakutan drill Sargent who eats, breathes and dreams it. This is where the laughs come in, and of course the sex.....two strong yet vulnerable people. The action will keep you flipping the pages trying to find out how they can possibly get out of the mess their in.
TEASER: I’m used to precision, as a military man. But soon I discover that I am a mere dabbler in thoroughness and persnickety decision making. No less than seven times I move the area rug, not counting the occasions when I only nudged it a few inches this way or that. Penny finally decides that it looks good partially under the sofa.

Vykor and Penny

Cul8r is a drill Sgt and is extreme with the recruits. His CO wants him to hello out so he orders a mail order bride for him. Penny arrives and she shows him they could be friends with benefits. Along the way they start calling in love and start also having cold feet. She decides to end the contract and leaves the planet. He chased her to the airport and managed to grab a stir and shows away. The ship diverts to the Reaper's space to save time and are attacked and boarded. After sending the ship back to Alliance space they are captured and she is able to send out a SOS that is answered by his recruits. They fight the invaders back to their own ship and head home where they get married and start the honeymoon at the end of the service right in the church.

Vakutan instructor Vyker is forced to take a human wife in the form of Penny. He is resistant at first but they both agree to treat it as a hookup until they part ways after the correct time. However, they both fall in love with each other but Penny panics and runs. Can Vyker get her back without incident?

This book was full of far too much salacious sex which was too prominent and explicit which then detracted from the story. Hidden there was a story of compromise, uncertainty, love, determination and a HEA - but we had to wade through all of the strenuous sex scenes to get there. It was easy to read but not so easy to understand as the real story was hidden. Contains a great deal of mature content which many people will be turned off by.

I have read several of Athena Storm's stories so far and wondered how she could write so many good stories so quickly. Don't get me wrong , the story itself was well written and the spicy scenes were slightly different and enjoyable but there seemed to be a lack of a good story especially in the first half.I love the characters of the athenaverse and how they do intertwine but this one did not seem to hold a candle to the several previous ones I have read.Sorrybut it was still a fairly decent book but not one I would return to again and again

Loved this new addition to the series. The initial contact between Vyker and Penny was exceptionally well written in that they jab at each other. Penny is no push over and this is something Vyker is not used to. She stands her ground and actually beats him in their first mock battle. Unable to accept that he just might want to keep her as his bride, she leaves and he follows. There is danger from space pirates but they out wit them until help arrives. There is a HEA but a lot happens first. This is a great read and I would highly recommend it.

Vyker is a Vakutan who is has been the trainer of many of the great officers of the Alliance. His boss has decided he needs a bride to settle him down. He picks Penny who has had a very bad life. She was a survivor of Armstrong and couldn't get a decent job. As an outcast, she gets a special companion training. She still can't cook, but has other attributes that makes Luz pick her for Vyker. Is he perfect for her? Is she what he needs? Then they get into trouble. I loved reading this story and can't wait for her next one. Thank you. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of the book.

Great addition to the series. Vyker is a Vakutan who trains new recruits for the Alliance Forces. He gets called to his bosses office for being to tough on the new recruits. Take a bride or get out. I love this author, and her books are amazing!!! This was an awesome book that I really enjoyed. The story and characters grabbed me from the beginning and I couldn't stop reading. I loved the characters and watching them grow together, they were well written and went well together. I found this book amazing with great word building making me feel apart of the story and watching it unfold in front of me. A definite must read for any fan and I can't wait to read more from this author!!!

Vyker and Penny are basically the last resort for the other. He has been given an ultimatum-take a bride or give up his commission. He chooses the latter thinking he can easily get rid of her with his winning personality. Penny is down on her luck and decides that joining a brides program. Her training isn't going as planned and she is on the verge of flunking out. She is saved from the hot seat by Vyker's boss. Their match is set until a certain pair of cold feet cause problems. Another great read in the Athena Storm world.

Lots of humor... plot kicks into high gear late in the story...


This story is very character-centric, something I happen to enjoy. Heavy on humor, and characters avoiding the important aspects of a relationship, with hopes they won’t get in too deep.

The story evolves into a good tale of trust, the importance of communication, looking beyond the surface, and recognizing people’s strengths.

I have enjoyed each story I’ve read in the Athenaverse, and look forward to reading more.

I loved it. The beast may be fierce but with the right woman he’s a gentle beast. Our drill sergeant turned out to be a softy with the woman he loves.

I loved Penny! I can’t help but laugh at her audacity but I am proud of her, she is no weak female. Even though her Vyker came to the rescue, she helped in her own rescue.

Wow!! Another great adventure in the world of Athenaverse. It’s a dark sci-fi romance between two broken hearts. Valerie and Penny find themselves at odds. I just loved the banter between the two. Will they be able to put their differences aside for a happy ever after? This is a great addition to the collection.

I have recently started reading books by Athena Storm and let me say "Leashed by the Beast" was a lovely fast read. It kept me reading till the end. Once I started I could not put down. Highly recommend that you grab it up. Look forward to reading more by this author.

Penny is not gonna be runoff by Vyker. She has her survivor and his little underhanded stuff that is funny yet ridiculous. He just needs to come to terms that he needs to meet. She is made. Stop resisting and figure it out. Love the book and all the stuff that went on. Added to the rest of the crazy books that have been in this series and it fits right in. Enjoyed it. A must read.

Loved the book it was great, the story was well written and the characters are interesting. Sgt Vyker he is a trainer of the best soldiers. Penny always getting into trouble, she goes to an Academy for companions and even fails at that really, so there is one more place they can try and that is Vyker needs company. Penny and Vyker can they get along?

Let's just say I was leashed to this book until I finished it.

Vyker is just over the top, meant to be ridden and a hard task master. Ladies line up to be trained.

It takes a special kind of woman to keep his attention, are you up for the job?
