I like things straightforward, simple. Too bad he’s complicated as hell…
From the moment I met Cal, I knew I had to keep my hands off. He had the potential to get me fired, break my heart, and earn me more than a few hours in confession with Father John—and my whole freaking family.
But there’s nothing more tempting than something you can’t have… or someone.
About That… is a standalone novella. You can read Then Again when you're done and see Sofia's brother Sam find love.
USA Today bestselling author Sylvie Stewart loves bad jokes, dirty rom-coms, country music, and baby skunks—preferably all at the same time. Most of her steamy contemporary and romantic comedy novels take place across her favorite state of North Carolina, and her characters never run out of snarky banter or snacks. When her laptop closes, Sylvie is a sucker for hugs from her twin boys and a good laugh with her hot-nerd hubby. If you love smart Southern gals, hot blue-collar guys, and snort-laughing with characters who feel like your best friends, Sylvie's your gal.
First-grade teacher Sofie, preparing for her first day, meets cartographer Cal as he brings Phoebe to school. There’s an instant attraction, but Sofie knows better than to put her brand-new teaching job in jeopardy by dating a student’s father. What’s a girl who’s wishing for a bit of romance to do?
By turns funny, a bit sarcastic, and definitely cute, this novella packs an overabundance of clever charm into a few pages. The characters are well-drawn and believable, as is the situation in which they find themselves. [And there’s even a moral here: always communicate with each other and never make assumptions.]
As the story unfolds, Sofie makes a heartbreaking decision and it looks as if there will not be a happily ever for her. But there’s a surprise for Sofie [and for the reader] in this endearing novella that is part comedy, part romance, and entirely unputdownable.
I got this book thru dlbookfunnel. This book was so entertaining, and really easy to read, with great characters. It was a short read, but included a lot of emotions, misunderstandings, lust, brotherly love, and meeting your true love. Cal is a young Cartographer, and the uncle of Phoebe. He brings her to her first day of school, and meets her teacher, there is an immediate attraction between the teacher and Cal. Sofia is a young first grade school teacher, she is single and determined to be a great teacher. When she meets Cal, she thinks that he is Phoebe’s father, but in fact, he is her uncle. They begin a relationship, but school rules affect that relationship, and Phoebe’s sadness about her father, causes some concern for Sofia. She feels like an intruder in Cal’s family, and breaks off their relationship, until she realizes, that she has misunderstood so much. She apologizes to Cal, and they begin their relationship again, and obtain their HEA. This author is a new-to-me author, but I did enjoy this book, and her writing.
I thought this was a cute novel. Sofia and Cal have an instant attraction but Sofia is having to make a tough life decision.
All I have to say is this book seriously explains the importance of communication between two people. Because a lot of problems would have been avoided if the whole truth had come out at the beginning.
I'm glad I got a chance to read this. Very fast, read with a lot of steam.
Cal and Sofia are an incredibly cute couple, and I love that all of the difficulties in their relationship stem from a number of misunderstandings. Mostly misunderstandings and assumptions on Sofia’s behalf – she jumps to a few conclusions. But, I also would’ve jumped to the same conclusions, so it’s entirely justifiable and made for an even more interesting novella.
Sofia is a really fun and light character. Her passion for working with kids is adorable, and she has a passion for life that I seriously wish I could have. She is also incredibly excited by her life and those she chooses to share it with. I can’t imagine how difficult it would be to teach children, and her happiness in doing so was absolutely adorable.
I love that although there is an instant connection between Cal and Sofia, they spend quite a bit of time getting to know one another. I mean, there are still so many sparks I almost had to fan myself while I was reading this, but it was also a relationship based on mutual respect and liking of one another – it was fun reading about them falling for one another.
About That… was such a cute and beautiful little novella. I really enjoyed diving into Stewart’s writing yet again. There is some wonderful humour and wit in her words, partnered with heartfelt connections and happily ever afters. Just the type of romance I like to read.
Very cute short story about a first grade teacher meeting the dad of one of her students. Chemistry and misunderstandings ensue… I think I like this author’s style and would read the full length story of the brother we were introduced to.
Very good, tho very short (92 pgs). Sofia is a first grade teacher, Cal is a cartographer. She is adorable and slightly sarcastic. Her friends are quirky & fun.
A quick read, and not very fleshed out, so a novella rather than a full length book. Sofía & Cal have an instant attraction, there are two major misunderstandings, and then quick resolutions.
Sofia is starting her first job teaching as a first-grade teacher. When one of the children, Phoebe, isn't doing so hot on the first day, Sofia meets Phoebe's father, Cal, and she's instantly hooked. But she can't date a student's father, it wouldn't be right. What follows is a bit of comedy, a bit of romance, and a bit of heartbreak.
This was a fun, quick novella that did a great job of ticking all the boxes. Sofia had me laughing out loud with some of her inner monologues, and I love that when I read a Sylvie Stewart rom-com, that I know that will happen. Well-written with great attention to detail, this is a fun and easy read to fit in during an afternoon.
Book Review: About That Author: Sylvie Stewart FIVE STARS I have never read a book by Sylvie Stewart that I have not absolutely loved. About That is no exception to this. A short story, quick read, about Sofie and Cal. She is a first grade teacher and he is there with one of her students. A case of assuming and miscommunication and Sofie has about ruined everything. This book is cute, funny and sad at times. Over all well written and keeps you turning those pages. There is a full length follow-up, About That. I will be picking that up soon. Thank you Sylvie for another great read. KLH
A very cute story with a little heat and lots of fun. I loved the characters. It always amazes me how a guy with a hot bod can turn a girls brain to mush. I'm looking forward to the next book! A fun read.
