Writer Becca Thorne needs an idea - fast! She might have a huge bestseller to her name but, with the deadline for book two approaching, Becca knows she's in danger of losing the career she cares so much about. But Fate has other plans for her when she almost plummets to her death with two strangers in a faulty elevator.
Although Becca emerges in one piece, her precious vintage handbag doesn't, and that's when she realises that inspiration has been with her alll along. Hidden inside the bag's now-torn lining is a set of beautiful love letters.
It might not be her story, yet Becca can't seem to get the romantic words out of her head and feels compelled to discover who wrote the letters. But there's more waiting for Becca than the tale of a romance from long ago - it might be the chance to live her own love story and follow the path Fate has always intended her to...
Where to begin? I absolutely loved this book. I finished it a few days ago but I needed a while to process my emotions before I could properly write something down haha
This book was everything. It was similar but also so different to Jo's other books. It was so deep and interesting and seeing parallels of modern day and the past relationships in this book. I loved the element of fate bringing people together, and the historical elements too.
The descriptions were amazing and I really felt like I was there in that small coastal town in South Africa and I desperately want to go now haha. I loved the characters too, as I always tend to do with Jo's characters, but these might have been my absolute favourites!
This book was heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. I laughed and I cried.
Honestly if you enjoy Rom-Coms or Adult Romance, I would 100% recommend this book!
I enjoy jo watsons simple but effective writting style. If your looking for a completely daft(crazy), funny and with a little bit of romance then this covers that. I didnt enjoy this one as much as after the rain as i thought a few bits were stretched out a tiny bit more than needed was all.
This story has a lot packed into it from the start. Lots to keep you interested. From her random but cute relationship with the local cutie to her escapades trying to find info to write a new book. Shes is a mixed up, disaster prone but loveable character. This is a bit of silly fun that i did really enjoy reading. I found myself chuckling at in parts. The predicaments that she ends up in and the authors dialect of this are comical.
It sends out a lovely message and well whats wrong with that😊
Sitting her open mouthed in disbelief at just how wonderful this book is. It has all of Jo Watson's trademark humour, but also a secondary love story that is just beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time.
I loved the chatting style the story was written in, as though Becca was talking directly to you as she tells you her story. She explains that she is in trouble and about the various forks in her life that have led her to this point. We get in great detail the terrifying moment where there is a near death experience that ultimately is the catalyst for her changing her life.
And from the moment she visits a small town many hours away from Jo'burg, we see just what a disaster zone she really is. At times it felt like a complete comedy of errors and the local hunky policeman is just the person to witness everything, even if he is despairing of her at the same time.
I loved the interactions between Mike and Becca, but also well actually just everything about this story. I don't want to give too much away, but there is so much more to this book than first meets the eye and I relished reading every last word of it.
In some respects this felt like a subtle change of direction for my favourite South African author, but equally there is so much familiarity in the absurdity of some it that that comes across so believable that it really is only a slight change, as everything I've always enjoyed about Jo Watson is still there in spades!
A truly fabulous story, one that I fear may have given me a book hangover, as I've no idea how whatever I read next will even remotely stand a chance in my affections!!
Thank you to Headline Eternal and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily,
Mystery? Historical? Romance? Funny? I could not put my finger on what this book was supposed to be. There were too many genres mish-mashed into this story that really impacted my overall enjoyment of the novel and prevented me from truly engaging with the narrative.
At first I was hesitant to read this book because I honestly had never heard or it! But I am so so glad I did! The story was gripping from the very beginning and was so heartfelt! I could feel my heart break a thousand times. But it was all healed by the epilogue. ❤️
I recently finished this book by Jo Watson and I have very mixed feelings on it. I nearly DNF’d this twice but pushed through. It’s strange because I didn’t dislike especially, I just wasn’t enjoying it at all and had no desire to continue reading.
I don’t want to give anything away because the story with the letters is pretty sweet but I found the book slow and I didn’t like the main character.
I am glad that I didn’t give up on it as it did improve towards the end but I just wasn’t invested in the relationship at all and the whole book left me feeling pretty ‘meh’ even though I did like the letters storyline. I am sorry to not be so positive about this book but I just didn’t find it particularly enjoyable.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Headline for a copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.
Well. This book was everything I didn’t know I needed. I went into “You, Me, Forever” being fairly confident I’d enjoy it, but I never expected it to consume me the way it did. I read it in one sitting, which rarely happens for me these days. I just couldn’t stop reading. I laughed out loud so many times. Becca was brilliant, so funny and entertaining. And Mike...well, he was everything I DID know I needed and then some! The story didn’t go anywhere near how I expected, and it was both beautiful and heartbreaking. The author made the characters and this little town feel like home, and I didn’t want to leave. A perfect read.
You, Me, Forever by Jo Watson took me by surprise. Not sure just what I had expected from it but it was such a sweet and fun read that was totally heartwarming. Becca finds so much more than just her next story in this first book in a trilogy and I for one can't wait to read the other books.
Oh what a lovely story this was!! I feel so sad that it’s over, I didn’t want the book to end. It was such an uplifting, heartwarming, emotional but laugh out loud funny read! I loved everything about it, I knew from the first page that it was going to be a good book.
Very likeable characters throughout this book, especially the main character - Becca Thorne AKA Pebecca Thorne (if you read it, you will understand why). Such an enjoyable character to read about, she likes digging herself big holes and that’s what made it just so funny. Mike was such a lovely character too! I was so obsessed with the connection between him and Becca and how the love letters she discovered had brought them together. Just so lovely!
I definitely recommend this if you need a book to uplift you, it’s definitely uplifted me.
[ I was sent an arc of this book on Netgalley in return for an honest review.]
Becca was honestly such an interesting character- she was compelling yet ditzy at times, and I liked that the book was written in a way that made it seem like she was talking directly to us. As the book progressed I became so invested in the couple's story, and I loved that the book revolved around their tragic yet sweet letters. Definitely a humerous and entertaining read. I'm looking forward to reading more of Jo Watson's other works in the future!✨
This was a cute, magical book set in a quaint town in South Africa. The protagonist, Pebecca (yes, there is a story behind the name), and her love interest, Mike, were well fleshed out. Most importantly, there was character development throughout the book, which is a must for me.
Becca and Mike's love story is truly one written in the stars. A series of coincidences draw them to each other, again and again, making it apparent that these two are fated for each other. While usually this would seem really cheesy and unbelievable, the author has brilliantly intertwined two love stories, one in the past and one in the present, to paint a beautiful picture of fated love. There was an air of magic about the book that sold the concept well. Think Taylor Swift's Invisible Strings.
Of course, worthy of mention would be the townspeople that Becca meets, most of which have watched Mike grow up, which leads to some embarrassing comments being made about the latter, all in good nature of course.
One thing I didn't quite fancy about the book though was Becca's obsession with Mike's- green- eyes. I thought it was mentioned way too much, enough that I couldn't help but take notice of it. But this was only a small peeve, one I could easily let slide and enjoy the book.
Overall, this was a good read. Hilarious at parts, and warm at others, with characters you can't help but root for. (P.S. Mike is a sexy not-at-all-your-typical-alpha-male policeman. Love!)
Parting ways time and again and meeting for the third time, if it isn’t fate for mike and Becca, then I don’t know what is. Third time’s definitely a charm.
This was a very cute rom com. There is just something that’s very endearing and lovable Jo Watson’s heroes and heroines are. Maybe it’s the fact that the heroines are always clumsily cute and that the heroes can’t help but save them. They all have this chemistry between one another that’s cute as heck.
From the start, there was great chemistry between Becca and mike. This was very obvious from the constant banter they had. They were brought together by love letters that Becca found. It was heartwarming that they found love by bonding over those heartbreaking letters—which made me tear up on occasion.
Overall the story was really fun to read. I only wish that we could have read some parts of what Becca wrote in her book since she said it was about her and mike after all.
I was so excited to read another book by Jo Watson as the only other one I read by her was absolutely hilarious! Although this book is funny, it is more focused on the actually storyline. The first part of the book does have some real funny bits in, but as the story develops you see less of that, but you get more sentimental emotion as the story unfolds. This is such a touching love story from years gone by about a couple who couldn’t be together due to race, and letters are found that were written by Edith to Abe declaring her love for him. Such beautiful letters that really pull at the heart strings, but also as it goes on, another love story develops as Becca tries to track down who wrote the letters, and who they were for. Really enjoyed this read, and really bonded with the characters.
3.5 stars. An author desperate for a story and a story that should be told are combined in this fun romance with great depth based on historical events. In 1948 the National Party came to power in South Africa and instituted Apartheid in law, banning marriage between persons of different races. This is the background to the romance between Edith and A contained in a set of letters that Becca, an author in need of a book, finds and pursues. Along the way she finds herself in a small seaside town, being detained by the local (very sexy) policeman. Although I wanted to strangle Becca a few times, I enjoyed the characters and plot. Looking forward to more from Jo Watson.
Jo Watson má príjemný štýl písania, takže to celé odsýpa rýchlo. Za to odo mňa dostala tú tretiu hviezdičku. Viac si však za hlavnú hrdinku a prekombinovaný dej nezaslúži.
3.25 stars Another funny rom com by Jo. This is one of her older books and I can definitely say she’s improved. But this is by no means bad (6.5 out of 10). The story starts off worrisome. Our FMC has gotten herself into trouble and is going to do something awful. But slowly the story unravels into a beautiful story all about love and that everyone deserves love. All love is worthy and no one should be told their love isn’t allowed.
Loved this book . Very different to 'What happens on vacation. 'You, me, forever' was about an author who has to write a 2nd book but has writer's block and goes to a small town hoping to get inspiration for her new novel . I have a signed copy of Jo Watson's new book 'Love at first flight' and can't wait to start reading it.
You, Me, Forever by Jo Watson a five-star of a forever read. It took me a little while to get into this story, but once I did the pages flew by, I fell in love with South Africa as well as with Perbecca and Edith as well as all of the other stories. This is a great story about history and love, the trials that some people face in everyday life and face with great honour and earnestness. It mixed so well with the two stories and the dilemmas each faced, this was a great romance, but it was also so much more. I will be looking for this author more and more as once I got into the writing, I found it so compelling.
Just WOW!! I don't know where to begin. Am I under some magic spell? Well, the whole book felt like so. Its the second book of Jo Watson which I read and boy oh boy she really knows how to tell a story. She has a very usual style of writing but her characters and the locations feel very near to your heart.
This story is about understanding love and holding on to the person you love no matter how difficult it is. Although the whole book is written from the female lead Pebbeca or Becca's point but this story is ain't about her only. I felt a lot of emotions going through me while reading this book, I laughed, cried (not that much but still shedding one or two drop of tear is crying, don't you think! 🤭), I even felt heartbroken with all those stories of broken hearts.
I just finished the book and currently so overwhelmed that I couldn't find any flaws. Becca, the female lead is a writer and currently in a writers block. She has only few weeks to finish her second book for which she has no story in mind. Suddenly one elevator incident landed her to Willow Bay, a small village. Why she is here? To find the person who wrote and whom he wrote to the letters she found in secret chamber of her torn bag. At Willow Bay she met the handsome but not in a godly manner yet so polite and emotional policeman Mike. In her quest to find the lovers who wrote the letters she starts doing very un-Becca things but she kept meeting Mike in every way, like the destiny is telling her something. Does Mike play any pertinent role and will Becca find the lovers she is searching for I won't tell you that.
But what I want to tell is that you should read the book just to read the letters only even if you don't like the story. The letters are so heart warming and bear such heavy emotions that no one will be able to not read them. They show how true love can be. I wish there were more letters in the book because I felt longing for more towards the end of the book. Yes, guys they are that good.
I liked all characters but I liked Mike the most (not because he is handsome policeman 😂). He is such a regular guy with emotions and awkwardness unlike the usual alpha men from chick-lits. Mike helps others and cares for his family. On one hand he behaves like a tough police but on the other hand he gets all shy and red when someone talks about his childhood or buying a box of condoms in front of his junior school teacher. His character is a breath of fresh air amongst the usual broody heros.
Last but not the least, the village Willow Bay and the surroundings were just perfect for such story. I felt like drawn towards the place and kept wondering what the Cove would look like or the House and view from the window. I have never been to SA but surely would want to go there now 😛.
All in all its great read, both light and heavy at the same time. I would like to read more from Jo Watson and hopefully everytime they will this delightful.
The blurb of this book really caught my attention when I was browsing for something light to read. I loved the second half of the book in particular, although I was disappointed in the first half. I wasn't immediately gripped as I hoped I would be.
The idea of love letters from the 1940s discovered sewn into a bag in the modern day was intriguing and I wanted to know how the story would develop and the history of what happened. I think more could have been made of the apartheid connection in South Africa, as it was more a side line. I did love that, even in the modern day, there was what some might consider a controversial relationship to run parallel with the story from the 1940s.
There were some great comic moments as well which made me laugh out loud. The idea of fate keep on pushing Becca and Mike together was interesting and provided some of the best comic moments so that was a good juxtaposition. At the same time as the comic moments there were some heart-breaking moments as well. It's a bit of an emotional rollercoaster if you let yourself get caught up in the story.
A lovely read which kept me entertained throughout the book . Becca is a somewhat accidentprone author with writers block. Chasing a story, she ends up in a small town, meets the man of her dreams and makes her mark on the town. Of course love's young dream doesn't run smoothly .... and neither does writing her new best seller . The story is pretty believable and interesting , characters well described. Enough humour to keep the reader entertained without it becoming too predictable or silly and some serious issues such as family estrangement explored. This is the first book I have read by Jo Watson, though I do have a couple reading and waiting on the e-reader so it will not be the last. I received a free copy of this book from Net galley in exchange for an impartial review
