A cautionary tale of Hookers, Truckers, and unsuspecting Suckers. Daisy would rather survive on minimum wage (plus tips) at her waitressing job in the local diner - after all, it’s only until ‘the others’ arrive - but she will service truckers if she has to; when she’s short of cash and needs to eat. Normally she’s okay just bumping along, waiting out her time and drinking beer in her trailer - but when her TV dies and she can no longer watch her beloved soap operas, she decides it’s time to join the other ‘lot lizards’ and earn some extra dollars. Watch out, though, guys ... Daisy is not your typical call-girl. Definitely not for the squeamish or easily offended! *Please this is a SHORT STORY (8-9k words) - not a novel.
Adrian Baldwin is a Mancunian now living and working in Wales. Back in the Nineties, he wrote for various TV shows/personalities: Smith & Jones, Clive Anderson, Brian Conley, Paul McKenna, Hale & Pace, Rory Bremner (and a few others). Wooo, get him.
Since then, he has written three screenplays, one of which received generous financial backing from the Film Agency for Wales. Then along came the global recession to kick the UK Film industry in the nuts. What a bummer!
Not to be outdone, he turned to novel writing - which had always been his real dream - and, in particular, a genre he feels is often overlooked; a genre he has always been a fan of: Dark Comedy (sometimes referred to as Horror's weird cousin).
BARNACLE BRAT (a dark comedy for grown-ups), his first novel. won INDIE NOVEL OF THE YEAR 2016 (Readers' Choice) at Underground Book Reviews. His second novel STANLEY McCLOUD MUST DIE! (more dark comedy for grown-ups) published in 2016, and he's currently writing his third book: THE SNOWMAN AND THE SCARECROW (another dark comedy for grown-ups).
An as yet untitled novel (about Sex and Crime) is earmarked as his fourth. It will, apparently, be an orgy of filth, depravity and wrongdoings, filled with weird and wonderful characters (criminals and perverts, most likely!) smothered in copious amounts of distasteful black humour. If that's the kind of thing that appeals to you, you sicko, you're probably just the type of reader he's looking for.

I think it's going to be a tradition for me with Baldwin's books that I start every review with 'Uhhhh I don't quite know how to...' haha.
This is another bizarre, dark (oh, so dark), and grotesque tale - I think the most bizarre one I've read so far, that takes an insane turn. Just when I thought, 'well, I'm enjoying this, but it hasn't quite got that super weird thing that the other stories had going', I turn a page, and oh look! - absolute madness! This is great fun.
Strange Shorts #3 confirms that Adrian Baldwin can write sleazy yet oddly likeable characters in situations that veer from normality to the completely bizarre in the blink of an eye.
Daisy has lost her job as a waitress and now her TV has broken. There's only one way she can raise those funds now and the oldest profession offers more than quick cash. You see, Daisy is one of the Lot Lizards and is no ordinary sex worker.
I loved the setting, characters and the sleaziness of it all. Daisy is a character I'd love to read more about.
Oddly, Strange Shorts #1 reveals a lot about Blown so be aware.
