Resurrection

Rate this book
A simple error leaves Leah with a unique Neural Enhancement Chip and a rapidly evolving AI implanted in her brain. In ‘Nascent’, she evaded kidnapping by virtual slavers and helped shut down some operations of the virtual crime syndicate that uses mind-controlled players as slaves. In ‘Odyssey’, she not only found a way to escape, but she also uncovered deeper plots being carried out in both the virtual multi-universe and reality. In ‘Change’, Leah began learning how to use the additional connections her chip has made throughout her body. The Pod facility she opened expanded as she helped others from her neighbourhood. Leah discovered that the crime syndicate has an even greater presence in the virtual multiverse than she’d imagined. As she begins to unravel some of their secrets, they tarnish her reputation and kidnap.

In ‘Rescue’ Leah hacked the secure Vault where an AI friend of hers had been archived. She not only managed to retrieve her friend but uncovered a deeper conspiracy. Leah also managed to rescue her mother from the crime syndicate but not before her mother had an AI chip inserted in her brain. She discovers that her boyfriend’s family controls their own crime syndicate and he is being controlled. In ‘Ipseity’ Leah discovers that the syndicate inserted a dangerous explosive AI chip in her mother. Leah’s neural architecture change allowing her greater awareness of what is happening around her as well as giving her an ability to multitask. She rescues her boyfriend as she moves closer on three virtual worlds to finishing significant quests. All the while Leah works to win freedom and a future for her Personal AI who is self-aware in a system that demands she be archived or deleted.

In ‘Contest’ Leah makes headway in all three quests as well as competing in the first Merkize Contest. Each of the quests is a contest of sorts, and she faces stronger adversaries than she has previously. Through all this, Leah struggles with her injuries and the threat of arrest overshadowing everything she does. In the end she manages to rescue her mother but is arrested on suspicion of murder. She and her father, Michael, are abducted on the way to the police station.
In 'Resurrection' Leah looks for a way to overcome the damage she suffered while kidnapped and make her way back into the multiverse.

[2022]:- Okay... I don't know what 2020 me was thinking when I read this and only giving it 3 stars, but this was pretty spectacular! I loved the battles that Atherleah and her Imperial Guards, Atherleah as Charlotte meeting new allies and fighting ZOMBIES! Then in real life, how she suffered such a physically debilitating attack and found a way to not only endure it but to continue to excel using her wits with the help of those who love her.

Seriously kickass! 5 stars!!

[2020]:- I really love The Stork Tower series, but this book kinda missed the mark for me. There was so much happening but at the same time, there was no moving forward... as though Leah was doing all this running - on a treadmill, and wasn't heading anywhere.

She was at an impasse.

If this book is all about the lead up to something bigger then I'm all for it. In Book 8 I'm expecting the Real World and all the games Leah's involved in the Multi-verse will be freaking epic! I hope the 8th book comes out SOON 'cause waiting for book 7 was too bloody long.

My favourite series is back!

I have been waiting and waiting for book 7 to come out, and decided to try and scratch that itch by re-reading books 1 to 6. When I was partway through book 4 it was released and I think I set a new personal record in finishing 4, 5 and 6 so I could move on to the new one and find out what happened after that cliffhanger! 2 days later and now my only complaint is I have to wait for the next one!

I'd been looking forward to this book, but I had some real worries during the first few chapters, especially as they seemed to be all about inflicting pain. I also began to think the author had written himself into a corner and would have to take some serious liberties to get out of it.
As it turned out liberties were taken and although they weren't bad enough for me to give up on the book, they did make me question what was happening.

Having had a moan I still enjoyed most of the book and if possible would have given 3.5 stars.

Long, tedious, and outright boring at times. It's totally unclear what the purpose of the main plot event is supposed to be, other than to introduce a bunch of symbols that fail to render properly on the Kindle. Perhaps there is some sort of long term plan in place, but there's no evidence of that here.

The constant hopping back and forth between worlds and slow quest development makes it hard to get invested in these virtual worlds, particularly since the LitRPG elements have lost their meaning. Skimming, or even skipping, the dungeon dives doesn't cause issues.

I'll keep reading them because at this point I'd like to know what happens, but I'm not looking forward to slogging through the next one (or ten, there's no clear end in sight).

Pretty good! Shortened length was great. I’ll give some brief thoughts on what I thought of the book.

The intense beginning was fantastic and really sucked me in but it eventually ended up going on for quite awhile, I believe it was only around 40% when she ended up meeting back in the multiverse.

I thought the idea of SNAIL and how it was implemented to be fantastic.

The “male” comments every now and then are becoming a bit much, generalizing half the population on silly stereotypes is becoming annoying.

I mentioned in the review about decreasing the level of pain she feels and they finally mentioned it but it went nowhere.

The solutions to her disabilities was unique and interesting and added new stuff to the multiverse and her strength in it.

Finally the faith talks and aspects of philosophy are becoming a bit too preachy for my taste. The tidbits from her diary were enough and well thought out but now it’s everywhere.

7/10

Does not dissappoint

Corden reset the protagonist's character arc. Jarring but effective. Creates opportunites for development that would otherwise be received as unfaithful to the protagonist's core character. Looking forward to a more adult Atherleah. Joy to read.

Love this series and this was another great addititon

One thing about it was annoying though, I read it too quick and now I have to wait for book 8. Dang it!!! :D

I had one thought too, that I have to air so to speak.

Cross-neuroplasticity has shown that the brain is capabal of retraining and retasking, though not perfectly, but that is before we throw in her own stemcells and nanites helping her heal. One thing is for sure any damage would cause the stemcells already in her brain to go into what you'd basically could call repair mode and work to remove and fill the damage with new braincells doing something useful, either the same old thing or something new. The other changes have all been adaptive, so why not this too.

I did not expect this. As much I loved the series till now i have to admit - I HATE THIS.
Could only make it to 50% then i started skimming and then i stopped it completely.

I hate the "take away all senses but still can do everything", i hate the awkward communications "3: say bla bla" Michael is now M "M: blabla" what a hack.
Also - you lost nearly everything came out alive but wihtou eysight, heaering, touch or smell senses but you go gaming? GAMING - not solving important stuff. Just have fun in a game world? Trying to reach meaningless quest goals?
Sorry but - fucking bullshit.
For me the series is finished. Was fun the first 6 books though.

Another great book in the series

I thought the author had dug a hole too deep to get out of without heavily needing to Mary Sue his way thorough the story.

While there is plenty of that, it is no more than any of the rest of the books so far, and as such, maintains the same level of entertainment without breaking internal consistency established in previous books.

It was a great read, it advanced the story on most fronts and didn't really finish on a cliffhanger, which was nice.

Still loving this series and can't wait for the next one.

Only complaint is it got a bit "preachy". Both in terms of religion and the monlogues about how the MC is "doing what's right and here's the reasons why." It felt repetitive and I actually skimmed through several pages that we're basically just saying the same thing but to different people.

Alert

I hate trying to write reviews because there are really only pass/fail results for me. Did I make it all the way through? Yes? 5 stars. No? There would be nothing here to read. In all fairness, if an author holds my attention from page one to the end, they’ve done their job. Anything less than 5 stars is petty criticism from someone incapable of even doing the job let alone doing a better one.

So in respect for the author and their work, I am going to start pasting this along with a generic review I found somewhere. “This was a fun book. I am glad that I read it. You should try it too.”

Now, since I have to keep explaining myself to people who don't like my reviews, I guess some clarification is in order.

1. I am 100% against criticism for works of art. Art is subjective, meaning reviews are irrelevant. The observer's opinion is only relevant to the observer. It is my belief that regardless of what others might say, I have to experience the art for myself.

2. I read upwards of 20 books a month. The $10/month I spend on K U, feels like I am cheating the authors. But since I can't afford 20 books a month if I were to purchase them directly, all I can offer is a positive review. That leads us to the final point.

3. If I get to the end of a book, then it was worth my time. I give those books 5 stars because it helps the author get exposure. That is the only reason I write reviews at all.

I understand that people are people and they are going to do what they do regardless of my stance. I know the way that I review books upsets some people. I am sorry they feel that way but as many have said, they will just ignore my review going forward. In fact, if you made it this far through my review, you should definitely read the book and completely ignore all of the reviews here. You are a much better judge of what you will like than anyone here.

Cheers

I had a hard time with this one. I mean, it took me 3 months to make myself finish this book as opposed to the previous ones which I would devour in a day or two...

I was loving this series, but the injury the Main Character received at the end of the last book/beginning of this one has just ruined it for me. I understand that it is to show that the character has to endure some great hardship and then show how great she is by overcoming it; but I felt like this was a step too far. I may not read the next one in the series if she doesn't come up with some miracle cure to undo at least part of the negative effects of the 'injury.'

My biggest annoyance with this book, aside from being just bummed by her situation in general, was the shorthand that the author had the MC's AI use for each person in a conversation. She may be a super genius who can remember who everyone is with just a letter and an emoji, but I had a hard time knowing who was saying what whenever more than like 3 people were involved in a conversation. If Leah is so awesome that she can process the amount of data required for her workaround to function, why can't she read the entire names of people instead of letters, numbers and sensations? At the very least, we could have it be understood that the "names" of the characters are being interpreted differently by the MC, but for the reader you could still use their actual name. This was made even worse when the AI would use a letter from the middle of a person's name instead of the first letter. or in one scene where everyone's name started with J, so it was "J this, J that, J fire" ugh.

I feel like with everything else that the AI and the nanobots have been able to do with her body, they should be able to repair or workaround the damage in a much better way than was already done.

An amazing story of AI's and FIVR Gaming!

I've been captivated by the entire book series.
I'm glad I waited until 7 books were out to start reading Storm Tower as I read them back to back. Now I can't wait for the next one!!!

It makes perfect sense that our firewall AI would become sentient, as they work so closely with their humans.
And that is indeed a very cool subplot that runs through the storyline. But it certainly isn't the biggest!

We have God and Religion engaged in a way I have never seen in LitRPG let alone SciFi. Well Done, Mr. Corden! I applaud you for your willingness to explore AI and Spirituality!!! More please!!!

And the interaction with the Game God's is superb.
And who wouldn't want to use Hope to battle Despair?!
Perfect!

The various Gaming Worlds are excellent.

The serious plot twist with the 3 players trapped in the World Bank Vault takes the morality of slavery to another even baser level. I actually stopped being angry at Merideath the character, and now feel very conflicted.

I look forward to the ongoing story and plot resolution!!

Superb

Thanks to covid19 I've had time to read the first seven books in the "The Stork Tower" back to back in the last week ,Tony Borden has written a superb story the way he has linked the three universes Dunyanin,Pneumatic and Cosmic Online only is nothing short of brilliant and the way he has explained Atherleahs rapid rise is due to her background of hard work, determination and her nature not to simply take the easy option has inspired Ivan,Noah,Yve-Fri and thousands of other gamers to realise that the more you put into the game, the more you get out of it,her relationship with the game developers has led them to seriously up their game and by necessity adapt their plans as she is truly a "wild card".Her attempts to fight for social justice online and in the real world have seriously rattled the corrupt authorities and cabals that control the masses leading to numerous and increasingly brutal attempts to silence her,the only downside is going to be awaiting the next chapter.

This book felt all over the place with tedious to non-existent progression.

I made it 55% into the book before i had to admit that i was getting extremely bored and found it hard to force myself to read more.

Without spoiling anything, this new disability that Leah is trying to overcome is so incredible unbelievable and frankly boring to read about. The whole writing style changes to reflect the disability and i experienced such a viceral hatred of the new writing style that it distracted from the story half of the time.

Also this book started out as a fantasy book, but now includes so many different genres that its really just like a pot stew of stories where everything is attempted to be tied into the real world. Problem is, if you do not like steampunk, survival or space stories then you will find yourself enjoying yourself less and less as the original storyline is pushed completely out of this book.

Too bad really.

Strong warnings on this one.

First off this is one hell of an author. The story is fluid and fast pace. It does a great job of explaining technical concepts without loosing you in the weeds. It touches some interesting religious philosophical ideals but keeps it from feeling preachy.

Spoiler alert

The first chapter of the book is freaking intense and terrifying. Not a snowflake here, and it gave me nightmares. For those of you with triggers use caution.

The premise of her disability is interesting I like how you continue to emphasize how it's affecting her. The only complaint is that she bounced back super fast. And I know she's super girl and all.

The over all story across all the books is fantastic keep it coming.

Fantastic Mc development

An involving piece of work, this entire series.

One of the best of its genre, for me.

Focussed solely through the eyes and mind of one character, Tony has put depth of thought, ethics and detail in his portrayel of Atheleah.

She could have been just another over powered MC of litrpg world. Yet, every aspect of her gains naturally flow as part of the world she is in.

For one, she is involved in multiple worlds, yet the real battle is the bigger picture of the real world.

Levelling mechanics occur extensively in one main world, yet are not used elsewhere, as would be natural with multiple different games.

Its a hybrid litrpg tale with many many detailed positives and I've been totally addicted to following the lot.

A masterpiece

This series is truly a masterwork. It manages to tell a story about societal change and the disparity between various peoples, whilst also keeping it interesting and showing how it applies to modern times. This is even more impressive considering how cynical people are in modern times, and how large groups of people are simply willing to ignore and dismiss stuff that they don’t care about. So being able to craft a story which remains interesting and can be read either as the story it’s telling, or as the message it’s trying to send, is what made me give this book five stars. I eagerly await the next installment!

Awesome as expected

This is one of those books that you just don't want to end. The story is well told and highly entertaining. The action is intense and many battles of one sort or another from the get go to the books end. There is a lot of adjustment for necessary for the MC as she overcomes her new disabilities. We will see if she returns to full strength in the future. This story has a large philosophical debate about anger and hate... Even started a war with it. Can't wait for the next book.

Wow, what a book 7

Anyone who hasnt read this series should, it combines so many different usually disparate topics and genres that somehow all flow together into a true masterpiece. I'll be honest, I actually slowed down my reading of this book, knowing that book 8 wasn't out yet... that has only happened in a handful of times across the several hundred books I read each year.

Amazing series, amazing world, thoughts, characters, magic, science, and the list goes on and on.

Really looking forward to the next books in this series!!!

The weaker book of the series so far

For me, the real world story has been the highlight of the series and yet this book focuses more on the real world that any of the previous 6 and I liked it the least
My biggest issue with it is the concept of Leah's latest condition and how they subsequently overcome it. I know this is fiction, but it's just too out there to be believable in any way. She goes from incapable of doing anything, to hardly being affected by it in couple of days. Technology is a wonderous thing, but not that wonderous

Preachy, worst in series so far

Between the author's extremely repetitive faux intellectual libertarian ramblings - Ayn Rand is more subtle - and his silly Orientalist obsession with a virtuous idealized China, this book takes a fun gamer's paradise and turns it into a slog through MC's dual struggles with morality and disability.

Already the series' plot had too many irons in the fire at any given time. At this stage it's barely readable. Keep reading if you're a completionist like me. Otherwise, move on.

Although I enjoyed the book I felt she made no real progress against Meredith or in any of the games. Though the book was long it lack substance, there were lots of descriptions of feelings and foe but no real movement in the story line.Glad Leah was able to work around some of the issues surrounding her abduction but she spent zero time looking for solutions. This book kind of felt like a placeholder or fluff to hold until you get to the really interesting parts

Book 7

Feels like we are getting closer to the real world end game. The action and quest advances in Dunyanin and I found that interesting. Not sure where the pneumatica plot is leading. It’s not a dealbreaker but the ‘faith’ aspect makes little sense to me and seems at odds with an otherwise rational, matter of fact driven character. Just a minor pet peeve

fast and furious

There is so much going on in these books I find my head spinning, so many plot threads and characters, so many genres and all of them melding together.

Plus the physical world is just down the road, and the view of the future while scary is also similar.

If you come to book 7 your here for book 8 and I am looking forward to it very much.

Good stuff

Just caught up with the series and I want to tell the author to hurry up and get the next book out because you cant leave me hanging like this!!!! However, I also want to tell the author don't hurry up, keep going at the pace you are at because you are doing a quality job and I don't want you to cut quality for speed.

3.5 stars. Was a slower read for me than previous books. I'm not sure if that's cause there was a longer break between this and the last book for me, or just the content wasn't as gripping. I found it harder to stomach the protagonist constantly perfecting anything she tries in this one more than previous, as success is nearly always immediate.

A truly great read

I have been waiting several months for this book to come out, couldn’t put it down and am now waiting for book 8. I might have to read them all again!
Excellent world building, great storyline, interesting characters and no over the top litrpg stats. Well worth a read.

Great epic story

premises are super novel, author is juggling multiple worlds and real/virtual story lines...

Only downside ianthe recent hero's handicapping which is countered easily and sonfar doesnt bring/remove anything from the story. I find it a bit annoying.

I'll be patiently waiting for the next installment however...

Slow going

Huge fan of the series but not the slow pace this one took. Also pneumatica was a little boring as I did not see the point of this world in the broader context. It improved by the end and I am looking forward to the next.
