Like the other Doctor Chronicles narrated stories with some original cast mixed in.
This time we get 2 stories featuring Danny Pink and Osgood.

First impression-
this is actually quite good!
And Dudman's 12th Doctor, while still not quite there, is certainly improving.
However, this is a far cry from his brilliant 11th Doctor.

As for the individual stories:

Charge of the Night Brigade- the writing is great. Very good opener to the set.
It is a gripping and atmospheric story with interesting characters, I especially like the female lead, who is charming, empathetic, clever but also can stand her ground and even faces up to military commanders. She even holds her own against the Doctor.

War Wounds-
Finally we see Danny again and it is just wonderful he a) gets to go on an adventure in the Tardis and b) there is more banter between him and 12.
I enjoyed this very much, but I adore "The Caretaker", so I do not mind that this is a very much expanded version of the relationship and quarrel in that episode.
Danny gets some much needed depth to his character.
And we get to see some more of the Doctor's surgical skills- he by now is indeed THAT type of Doctor.

Distant Voices- we had a similar plot before, but this still manages to add a new twist to it. I like these Timey-whimey types of stories. And the temporary companion of the Doctor is a great character with some interesting history and powers. And I am very happy they saved the horse!

Field Trip- Nice little adventure for Osgood.
Nothing mind blowing but enjoyable. Osgood gets some action scenes, infiltration and tinkering.
Only thing a bit confusing was Dudman also voicing the female characters, that did slightly break the immersion.

I think what really keeps this set above average is the writing- it is well paced, and although the plots are not exactly innovative, they still manage to sound fresh and have some added surprises. These stories are just FUN.
Just do not expect Dudman being as awesome as 12 as he is as 11. He has improved, but he still has a long way to go. But this is certainly helped by the narration which breaks up the dialogue with 12- I am not sure this could have worked without it. It also really succeeds in tying the plot together.

So all in all enjoyable set.
Nice stories, however not as great as the 11th Doctor Chronicles was.

Jacob Dudman does not do the Twelfth Doctor’s voice quote as well as he does Ten and Eleven. He tries the accent, but the tone isn’t right. I think Nicholas Briggs has handled the tone better elsewhere.

The main story to highlight here is “War Wounds,” which features Samuel Anderson reprising his role as Danny Pink. This is a character I think everyone can agree wasn’t written very well in the TV series. This story rectifies that somewhat. The amnesia choice is questionable but understandable for a tragic approach.

The rest of the stories are fairly enjoyable. Nice to have other familiar characters like Osgood. But what I wouldn’t give for Peter Capaldi em to do some Big Finish audios. I respect his decision not to, but still can’t help wanting.

I wish they'd spend just a touch more money for a third voice. Sometimes Jacob Dudman's tertiary characters just sound like the 11th Doctor.

More UNIT more Osgood, STAT!

1.1 The Charge of the Night Brigade - Mary Seacole, that’s cool! This one is a bit eerie and unsettling. Crimean rats, wars, and alien invasions. Hmm. I was once talking with a couple of Phd physicists who hadn’t even heard of the Crimean War. Shows that just because you have a doctorate in one field doesn’t mean you’ve got a clue about the rest of the world beyond their specific field. This is pretty good one, but not a particularly exciting one. (3/5)

1.2 War Wounds - This one a bit more like the Companion Chronicles in that it has narration and more typical audio-drama; this isn’t always my favorite presentation for these stories, but as this one has Danny Pink (aka P.E.) I rather enjoyed it. (3/5)

1.3 Distant Voices - Another narrated audio-hybrid. This a fun adventure, but the narration always leaves me a little unsettled. Do entertaining, but not the greatest. Also it’s quite clear that Jacob Dudman is fine as The (Twelfth) Doctor, but voice matches up much better as The (Eleventh) Doctor as his performance of Alex sounds exactly like Matt Smith. (3/5)

1.4 Field Trip - A fun romp with The (Twelfth) Doctor and Osgood on a trip that has nothing to do with UNIT. A bit too silly for me, I kept waiting for some kind of noir twist to occur. This last one is also included with the anthology Doctor Who: Anniversary - A 2005-2025 Doctors Collection. (3/5)
