Hens and homicides in a cozy slice of paradise.

Mele Kalikimaka!

But how can her Christmas be merry and bright with Nik off to Barbados on a surfing trip and two brothers using her eggs as ammunition in their family feud?

When, in the middle of the festivities, the world's most prestigious poultry show comes to town, it brings with it four shady suspects, three French hens, two wild-haired rivals, and a murder with a silver cup. Can Saffron get through the holidays without egg on her face?

A Real Christmas Carol with Mystery

If you’ve ever wanted to know anything at all about chickens, read this story. And if you didn’t - read it anyway because it’s fun and informative, and interesting, and has a decent mystery. And beautiful scenery set in Hawaii.
Saffron runs a large egg farm and has dozens of different types of chickens. When a world-class chicken competition comes to Hawaii, Saffron has to go see all the different types. She meets several characters there, including the eccentric Gavin and grouchy Hugo and their prize winning hens. When Hugo ends up dead, his pregnant wife and prize chickens missing, Saffron knows she has to help the young woman. Her list of suspects keeps getting longer, but she has to concentrate on the community Christmas party that she’s hosting this year so doesn’t have time to investigate. But when the hens and young woman end up in her care, along with an intelligent donkey, and a champion cow and her calf (along with the feud between two brothers), she has no choice but to figure it all out. Preferably before the Christmas party.
The scenery and Hawaiian details in this story are beautiful. I feel like I’m really there, making leis, eating malasadas, and tickling my ankles with the surf. There is so much going on in this story, but the scenery, the background, the details make it worth it. And a satisfying ending is even better.
Recommended.

This is a 7th book in the series so there was some background that was missing and would have helped. Chickens are a major part of this story as well as a murder. Takes place in Hawaii which was interesting as Christmas in Hawaii is different than anything I’ve known.

I came across this book by chance when I decided to read books titled around the Twelve Days of Christmas and was a little skeptical when I read the blurb but gave it a shot anyway.

I haven’t read any of the others in the series but this doesn’t impact the read.

Honestly, I was warmly surprised by how much I enjoyed this quick, well-paced/developed and written and fun story centred around chickens!

I also loved the festive senses evoked through the gorgeous Christmas scent, smell and taste descriptions of the malasadas, as well as the lovely atmosphere/setting depicted of Hawaii which I haven’t yet had the privilege to visit.

& finally the links to traditional Christmas story in a far fetched but works and heartwarming kind of way.

Overall would recommend if you want a quick festive blast with a little mystery!

Fun book

I love this series. I’m glad the chickens were back and an old friend returned. I liked the new hens as well. I always have to google images of the chickens so I can see what they really look like. I can’t believe I would ever look up pictures of chickens on the internet and come to appreciate their beauty.
All my favorite characters were back and I eagerly await the next one. Also, I need to find a place to get malasadas in Nashville.

Saffron is excited to spend part of the Christmas holidays at an international chicken show, where she finds all kinds of amazing birds and some quirky people who raise them. But then one of the top contestants turns up dead and his chickens (and wife) missing. Saffron looks like a top suspect, but she turns it around and does her best to look for clues, using her amazing color perception. Meanwhile, she's hosting and organizing the town's annual live nativity and Christmas Eve party and trying to make sure she doesn't miss out on any of the exclusive 12 days of Christmas malasada flavors, even as she second-guesses her choice of boyfriends.

Saffron's love life: unenviable. I love the way this book enthuses about the wonders of nature and what it means to give animals a home where they can do what they're meant to do. The Christmas vibes were exactly what I was looking for as the last of the 12 days of Christmas come to a close, but the murder mystery was also quite satisfying and thrilling (in a cozy mystery kind of way).

I really enjoyed Three French Hens! Josi Avari delivers another charming, quirky mystery set in the sunny paradise of Maika'i, Hawaii. Saffron and her hens are as delightful as ever, and the Christmas festivities, malasadas, Santa arriving by canoe, and a live nativity, made the setting feel warm and festive.

The mystery itself was fun and twisty, with plenty of amusing chaos thanks to the family feuds and the prestigious poultry show. I especially loved how the chickens somehow manage to be both adorable and part of the plot!

I gave it four stars because, while the story is entertaining and cozy, some parts felt a little predictable, and I would have loved a bit more suspense in the whodunit element. Still, it’s a delightful holiday read, and I can’t wait to see what Saffron and her flock get up to next.

aloha chicken series

I’m so enjoying this series! I got the first book of the series free on bookbub and upon reading it I then purchased the series. I love books that teach me a bit about things/cultures/places and this series is a tropical banquet—a luau—of info. Who knew that chickens could be so very interesting! The mysteries are engaging and the main protagonist is a delight. There is no gratuitous violence or sex, and I enjoy every minute of my time in Hawaii!!!

Great mystery

What a great mystery. Christmas in Hawaii is a magical time, but with an exotic chicken championship, cattle theft, and a live nativity to get ready for, there is also time for murder. Now I want to go to a chicken championship and see all the different birds!

A clucking story

Never realized the breeds of chickens. Enjoyed the information about the colors of their feathers. A nice setting for an intriguing story. Good characters and different life styles combined.

This author is very unusual.. She doesn't recycle her plots. I'm addicted to her chicken stories. I enjoy the mysteries.
