For years, the legend of Faceless Flo—a young woman who disappeared in the 1920s—has drawn people to Hollow Road in search of her ghost.
Some were never seen again.
Among the missing is a young banker who vanished thirty years ago. Dez is called in to help solve the decades-old cold case, and when a connection to the Faceless Flo legend comes to light, he enlists Sully’s help.
But not everything is as it seems.
As Sully begins to unravel the truth, he finds himself on a collision course with an angry and dangerous spirit, and an enemy from his past who is guarding a dark secret.
But Dez and Sully have been concealing secrets of their own—and they’re about to come to light in a way that might shatter the brothers’ relationship forever.
The Sullivan Gray Series blends mystery and suspense with the paranormal and the brother dynamic of shows like Supernatural. If you like Odd Thomas, it's time to meet Sully.
Raised on a farm on the Canadian Prairies, words quickly became my means of exploring the world around me and giving life to the one created in my imagination. Fascinated by ghost stories and crime fiction, I have been writing both for well over two decades, drawing on more than fifteen years in a career in a criminal justice setting. When not putting Scrivener through its paces, I enjoy reading, portrait drawing, travel and spending time with family and friends.
Hollow Road finds Dez and Sully investigating a few mysteries. Lonnie Debenham went missing almost thirty years ago. His family needs answers. Did he just walk out on his young family to start a new life? Did he die in the woods near Loons Hollow? Did he kill himself or was he a victim of an accident or murder? Maybe Faceless Flo, a ghost from the 1920s, got him like she’s gotten other young men. Dez and Sully need to solve quite a few mysteries if they are going to find out the truth that’s twisted up with so many secrets.
The fifth book in the series is a great continuation of the series. H.P. Bayne does a great job of balancing her characters, their natural growth, their relationships, the twists and turns of a mystery story, the foreshadowing, the action scenes, and the supernatural elements. It’s certainly a lot to do all in one book. The overarching mystery surrounding Dez and Sully’s uncle Lowell takes a bit of a backseat in this one but we do get some answers about that eventually, which will lead nicely into the next book Second Son. I really enjoy the pacing of her books. Since there’s a lot of ground to cover, there really aren’t any sections that drag. The mystery was one that I guessed after some well-placed foreshadowing, but that never disappoints me. Even when the mystery is revealed and my suspicions are realized, the action is so ramped up that I’m well entrenched in how the story will turn out to feel disappointed that I’m not surprised. Bayne works out a good mystery, even if sometimes it feels too connected to previous characters or situations. It’s believable, intriguing, and heart wrenching.
This series needs to be read in order, so I would suggest starting with Black Candle, Harbinger, The Dule Tree, and Crawl before Hollow Road. You won’t regret going on this journey. Kimotan Rapids certainly is a city filled to the brim with interesting characters. Sully’s second sight and the ghosts he deals with will give you chills while also sparking your sense of compassion for the trauma Sully and his ghosts go through. Be prepared for a bumpy, exciting ride!

Okay, if you know anything about me, you know I love this series, but, wow! So much happens in this book...
The plot of this book is about a vengeful ghost who is making men disappear at the woods of Hollow Road. There is an old legend about a girl that might have been or might have been not killed in the woods, but is really Faceless Flo the responsible for all these missing men?
The legend intersects with a case in which Lachlan is working, and, of course, Sully expertise is needed. But soon, things become personal when the next missing man is Takara's new boyfriend. Strange connections keep emerging, and secrets get exposed...
Sully and Dez have a rough, excruciating, gut-wrenching time coming and believe me, the last part of the book will shake you to the core.
We come to understand the reasons for some of the actions of Sully's uncle (did I told you how much I want him in hell?), the main arc that glues together all the books seems to be coming to an end, and I just know it: it will be agonizingly painful.
*looks around in desperation * How long until the next book?
So far this series are great! Thought provoking without being stupidly ridiculous and also has built on the characters from the first book. Love the interaction of Dez and Sully and then the family, again they feel like normal families, no superheroes or big egos and very little unnecessary busson heaving sex! If you like mysteries, corruption and ghosts, this series are for you!
This is a great 5th part to the series, still slightly eerie and still exciting. The author writes a really enticing novel and knows exactly how to reel the reader into his novel. There is a ghost which has been haunting the woods that surround the small but now uninhabited suburb of Loons Hollow. The ghosts name is 'Faceless Flo' and she has been held responsible for the disappearance of several men over the years. Sullivan starts to investigate and discovers the real name of said ghost while once again putting his life in danger while also finding a missing man and also the remains of a baby. He still cannot let it be known that he is alive and not dead as answers are slowly being revealed about the wrong doings at the 'mental institution' but relations between himself and his brother Des become fraught when things are told to Des that don't sit very well with him. This tension will obviously run over to the next book and I am intrigued as to how the brothers are going to heal this rift because they are surely going to need each other's help as they always do. I thought that this was one of the better instalments of the series so far. A really, really enjoyable 4/5
I got excited each time I was able to pick this book up to continue reading. In one way, I want to hurry up and see how it all ends, but in another way, it’s so good, I’m glad I have a couple more books to go. I used to read mysteries, then I got into reading paranormal books. This series is the perfect blend. The story, and the stories within the story are very well thought out. Each book has transitioned into the next very smoothly. The characters are believable, even Sully’s dog. Each book has had its own story, but to understand the overall plot, they must be read in order. And believe me, you don’t want to miss anything.
It is because Dez and Sully are brothers, true brothers, that they are so strongly protective of each other and can become so angry with each other. What appears to be disloyal behavior in both of them is actually rooted in loyalty and love. That loyalty and love, not just between Sully and Dez, but among almost all the family members, has been a major theme throughout the series, but is clearest in this book.
When I first read this story, I loved it to pieces and it was one of my favourites' one in a series filled with favourites.
I jumped at the chance to listen to it, as John Downey is really fantastic narrating these books. As you can imagine, I enjoyed it as much as I did the first time. And, by 'enjoy' I mean that I was scared and sad and very, very heart-broken by the end.
I'm really glad this is a completed series because I'm hooked. Aside from some admittedly minor but highly annoying (to me at least) editing mistakes, this is one story that grips you and doesn't let go. That ending has my heart pounding and I am so glad I don't have to wait for the next book to be released. 2 more books in the series and I'm betting I won't get all of my questions answered until the very end of the last book!
This book just keeps getting better. Sully and Dez are drawn in to the story of a woman who lures people to death and it's connected to a case that Dez has where he is looking for a 30 year old lead in to a missing presumed dead person. The whole story however is leading up to the moment that Dez learns the truth about his uncle and then he hits Sully and walks away. Will the brothers make up? Got to read the next installment urgently.
I'm really loving this series. This time Dez and Sully are sent to investigate a long told legend of a faceless ghost, called Faceless Flo. It's also a case where Lachlan, Dez's boss sends him on a decades old cold case, of a man who had gone missing. Legend tells that the ghost purposely leads men away, and are never found again. As the investigation turns, more people are missing and secrets start to unravel. Small towns can't hide their trouble, it all circles back in the end.
Sully and Dez have the kind of relationship that everyone should strive for with their siblings – they are loyal and loving and willing to face their fears for each other. The stories are about each about different mysteries that they solve together but at the heart of this series is the thread that binds family.
♾️/⭐️ This series still remains an absolute favourite, I would never get bored of reading about Sully and Dez! Yet again flawless plot and amazing characters that feel alive. It’s so rare to find a book that has both truly likeable characters that remain constant and true to their personalities throughout as well as a truly gripping plot. Highly recommend!
Reverting & Awesome Another excellent exciting book, from the first page to the last page. I love the characters and their unique personalities. Loved it, loved it. You never know where the story is going until the end and the saga continues into the next book.
Had me rooted to this book had to finish it but still had me buying the the next book so I can find out what’s happening. A truly amazing read and the plot gets more intriguing love the characters
The brothers, Dez and Sully have to lay an insane ghost.
A ghost story starts a new case. The brothers, Dez and Sully are sent out by their P.I. boss to discover what happened to a vanished man. In doing so they wind up solving ghost stories and murders.
An excellent follow on from her last book, only downside is it finished leaving me guessing. Got to get the next book now. To see where it goes from here 🤔
This series is amazing, every time I finish a book I think wow it can't get any better than this, and then I read the next one and it blows me away, great storyline and great characters.
She appears to be targeting men, drawing them to their death. But what is the real story behind it? Sully needs to find out, while staying in the shadows as much as he can – which turns out isn’t that much really, though his alias works on most people. But why did he choose the name Oliver Chadwell? Was it really just a random name?
After a false start thinking she is someone else entirely he finds out who she is, and why she is doing what she’s doing. Then, more importantly, why she is targeting the men she is.
Dez is trying to find out what happened to a banker, Lonnie Debenham, who disappeared 30 years ago. Was it an affair? Suicide? No body has been found, but his father is ill and needs to know the truth before he dies.
Meanwhile Sully is trying to prevent Dez from finding out what it is that their Uncle Lowell has done to the family.
I just love these books, on number 6 now, not many to go *sad face.
I think I fell in love with Sullivan Gray in H.P. Bayne’s previous novel, The Dule Tree. And then again with his brother, Dez Braddock. This ghostly series largely depends on their brotherly love, and anyone who can adore/support/risk his life for a sibling like that is a winner in my own book. The success of the Sullivan Gray series hangs largely from the massive shoulders of Dez and the less-enormous frame of the title character. In the fifth book, Sully is still in hiding from the world at large, but called in to help Dez and his boss with a strange case involving the ghost of a woman haunting Hollow Road. Who is Faceless Flo? Why is she luring men to potential death, but not women? Only Sully can see her, making him rather important as a mystery-solver. Dez cannot, and he’s terrified of the ghost, but he steps up rather heroically whenever he’s needed . . . and then some. Meanwhile, family issues arise and are resolved while others lurk. Secrets are often meant to protect, but can also hurt. When, Bayne asks, do you reveal the painful past? Are secrets lies, or merely truths waiting to be told? Hollow Road shows again that Bayne is an author who really understands how to write a series. Start at the beginning; you’ll be glad you did. It may be a paranormal series, but the messages and relationships are altogether human and sometimes truly moving. And if you love ghost stories, you must meet Sullivan Gray.
