Thurk returns in this next installment of the Orc Ranger series. This time, he must travel to the city of New Stad in order to track down the cause behind a rash of explosions occurring throughout the boroughs.
Once there, he meets the Police Commissioner of New Stad, a young woman by the name of Janette Blanca. Janette is hell-bent on solving the crimes in her city, as well as combating the vicious gangs which control it.
When Thurk and his allies discover that an infamous gang leader known as the Rat King is trying to weaponize the lost art of magic, it is a race against the clock to stop him before it is too late.
Will Thurk and his companions manage to thwart the Rat King and save the city? And, if so, at what cost?
City of Secrets (The Orc Ranger #2) by Jacob McElligott This is book two in the series of the Orc Ranger. In this book is is called to check out a city but not told why just to check in with a certain official. He arrives and has trouble immediately. Finally making it to the office, he finds someone is trying to blast magic into the world again but for nefarious uses! There are gangs of half kings, orcs, and more. The city is filled with magical folk but no magic, or very little left in the world. I found it very intriguing and the Ranger is good hearted despite him being looked down on in most towns because he is an orc.
I loved this! If you love Orcs & Westerns then you will definitely love these books. I’m not much for westerns but Thurk Gutarg may be slowly changing my mind on that. These are actiony, these are funny, these are sweet, I have been ridiculously invested in the 1st two books and can’t wait to read 3 & 4.
I was looking forward to reading this the second installment of the Orc Ranger series. City of Secrets (The Orc Ranger #2) was well worth the wait. This book like the first book is an enjoyable quick read. It is difficult to put down as the pace keeps building throughout. We learn more of Thurk’s backstory that was only hinted at in the first book, but I anticipate there will be more to come. I am looking forward to reading the third and fourth installments. And then going back and reading them all again.
Very Zane Grey or Louis L’Amour in it’s straightforward, heroic, western tale telling. But the hero is an orc and the rest is somewhat Steam Punk meets Middle Earth. Delightful reading.
In this second book of the series, Thruk the Ranger orc leaves his wide open spaced to help bring law and order to the big city...but chaos results. This is a well paced novella, with interesting characters and a solid plot. This is a stand alone story, but the first of the series is just as good a read as this one.
I like the orc character as the primary hero figure. It's a unique setting for a storyline. Bringing in guns is also unique to a fantasy setting. The Orc Ranger series seems to consist of 4 novellas.
