The Hollow #3

Surrender

Rate this book
I was taught to fear the truth, a lesson my mother instilled in me from birth, but that was before. Before she disappeared without a trace and left me to navigate a world she taught me was dangerous, but never explained why.
I thought I could handle traversing it alone, with only my best friend to share my secrets, but that was before them- before the men that plowed into my life and found a place for themselves.
They gave me everything- love, respect, but there was one thing I needed, that they didn’t have. Answers.
Why was I taught to hide away? Why did I have to give up a life of riches for countless hours spent working a mine? And most importantly, what happened to the other Divine from the Zircon line?
Marcus said there were none left, but he didn’t know what I did, that I was one. Still, that begged the question, was the source of my magic why I was hidden away? Was it the cause of awakening the dormant powers in those I grew close to? And finally, what was so wrong with it, that everyone like me was dead?
I didn’t know the answer to any of those questions but finding myself exactly where my mother had always feared I’d end up, I have a feeling I’m going to find out.

This is a review for all 3 books.

Book 1 started off pretty strong, although the first part involved a massive (and rather complex) world building explanation that the reader almost needed to have printed out to remember which stone was which. I was still (and still am, after 3 books) fuzzy on the details about The Divine and the Hallows and how they came to be. As the books went on, it seemed the backstory evolved to suit the authors’ whim, which was spoke of poor planning.

I was initially intrigued by Cal and her gender-bending, and several parts had my heart in my throat as to whether she’d be found out. But by book 2, it’s like the authors got tired of the whole “writing a
Book” thing and that pesky “character development.” Cal started to rake in Mates like they were going out of style. Mate bonds snapped into place instantly and the insta love (seriously: They said they loved each other after one day) dampened my enjoyment of the book. Everything from book 2 onward felt rushed and sloppy, and even the final showdown was a confusing muddle or activity that ended on a fairly anticlimactic (and frankly, stupid) decision by Cal.

This book series has potential, but needed more fleshing out, more pages, and better characterization. I never felt like I clicked with the characters, and I ended feeling dissatisfaction at both the plot and the empty feeling in my head where the characters’ usually “live.”

Not every book has to have a complicated storyline with twists and turns. Sometimes simple is best. I loved the simplicity of this series. I love how the small package did not compromise the quality the story. I didn’t feel like I am missing any details. I have also realized that some series are not meant to be read back to back because the next book recaps the story so far. If you are reading back to back this may make the story sound repetitive. This series doesn’t have this problem, or if it’s there it’s done an such a way that I didn’t even feel it. I absolutely loved the series.

Read other books by this author in the future: yes

The best book of this series was the first book, the worst one the second and the third one is an okay read again. It is also the last book of the series. After Calypso was captured at the end of the last book, this one is all about freeing her and because of freeing her there comes the downfall of the ruling body of the planet.

This was a good ending to this story.

I enjoy reading both of these authors separate, together they create some magic!!

In The Hollow series we have a different plot with memorable characters that if full of adventure, suspense, and a good plot that kept the reader interested until the end. Can I say what an ending it was too!!!

Well done ladies, and I cannot wait to see what you guys produce next!!!! ( There is alot of hope in that statement!!)

The series had a promising premise, lumbered along with the predictability of the sunrise/sunset & finally it ended in seppuku or if you prefer hara-kiri. 🙄

Good

This was a good ending to the trilogy, though I’m actually a little sore’s surprised it IS the end. Till about the 86% mark, I was sure there would be another book in this series, as there were so many questions left unanswered. And while some of those questions still linger, it was a respectable job of tying them up. It did feel a bit anticlimactic though, and the ending left me a touch disappointed - though that could be because book 1 was so fantastic. Still good, and still worth reading.

And easy ending to an interesting series

I’m slightly disappointed that this was the last book. And although everything is tied up in a nice and neat fancy bow, I wouldn’t have minded if the story took a bit longer. Went further in depth, further in emotion, further in mystery. Everything just sort of happens, and comes together for Cal. Like yes what happens sucks, but nothing too horrid really happens to her. The climax of this book though really took the cake in being easy. It just all felt easy. I still liked the ending well the epilogue. But I don’t know. Knowing there was so much more about the story that could have happened, makes having it end here not as satisfying for me.

As we went on too I felt like the men started becoming more...fantasy like in how they were talking. They were overly kind and caring which is good, but it was the way it was done. Idk it just...yea.

It’s not a bad story or anything but it could have been more. I never really felt them fall in love, I never felt the emotion. It was like the bond made them love each other.

In addition to all of that, this series is in desperate need of an editor, or at the very least some beta readers. There were random capitalizations, an I not capitalized. Added words etc.

First book was the best of this series, second was the worst, this one was somewhere in between. The books are just too short for the amount of world-building, the creation of a magic system, the societal structure, the conflicts, and the relationships. A unique idea that just needed a lot more development.

Really cool series
On the light end of smut in my eyes
Main character only has in depth sexual scene with 4 males once each and after this is more implied.
I liked the story and all three books.

...It’s not you it’s me...

Series review

Soooo.....If you like dystopian books you would probably like this series. It has a pretty unique magic system, great world building and descriptions as well. But it just wasn’t my cup of tea. I don’t care for dystopian books.

Also, it didn’t really feel like an RH. FMC only gets all her men together within the last few pages, and even then it’s more ‘fade to black’. The story felt more like a girl going on her journey with a few one night stands along the way.

Anyway, you might like it but I didn’t. I would rate this lower but I feel like that would be unfair.

This is book three of The Hollow series and continues the saga of Callie (Cal or Calypso), as she is captured by a traitor to the Resistance, whilst on an attempt to stop mined crystal shipments from reaching the Divine. Ash and Fox, who are sharing a relationship with her, are devastated with her capture and want their boss Bear to go ahead with a rescue plot immediately. Callie finds herself held prisoner in the home of her Divine Mating Games judge and dreamscape partner Marcus and his mother, the leader of the Garnet family. She has brokered an agreement with a horrible Divine from a strong family, for her to be his mate, the one thing she tried to stop her best friend Izzy from having to deal with in the Mating Games.

Callie has finally found a place for herself and love in an unexpected manner, but she still knows very little about her own history. Her mother left her alone while she was very young and never told her who her father was. She was always hidden as a male, even ending up working in the Divine’s mines for years, before getting her freedom, with the help of the Resistance. She has magic, fire magic, which she tries to keep under wraps. But it seems her liaisons with Ash and Fox have altered them and given them powers of their own!

Marcus has to hide his knowledge of Callie’s identity, when he is taken to her prison cell and another surprise is the Hollow known as Hawk is also there in his job liaising between Divines and Hollows. Her magic has been nullified by the room and a device she is made to wear. Until she can move out of there, she can’t dreamscape with Marcus, but just her proximity is affecting both Hawk and Marcus. Arcus suspects what Divine family she may be from, but if he is correct, she if the last of her line and even more valuable to other unscrupulous Divines. The Zircon line has disappeared from history and there is little evidence left behind to show how or why they ceased to exist.

The bonds between Callie and those she is closest to, are growing stronger and may be her salvation. Unfortunately, her proposed new mate is from the strongest Divine line and has brought his own guards with him, which will make her rescue more difficult. This is the last book in the series and allows a lot of the unknown factors from the previous books to be revealed and a final resolution to who Callie may end up with being solved. More of her own history is discovered and it may not bring the happiness she may have expected, but it will answer some the questions she has had for most of her life. Dormant powers have been awakened and what they may be able to do with these is to be seen by all. I loved this final instalment of this series and I’m sad to see it finished. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believeable.
Great suspense and action with wonderful world building.

This story was amazing! The entire series is one action packed full of drama and that is just addicting. I could not put it down until I found out what happened. It is as normal amazingly written and has the most amazing characters. The storyline is original and intriguing. You won’t be to put it down and then you will be saying more please at the end. This entire series is a must read. The personalities of the characters are realistic as if they were your friends, enemies, and lovers. The descriptions draw you in and allow you to visualize as if you were right there. This is most definitely not a disappointment. A fantastic must read!!!!!!!

Ehh, ⭐️ 3.8 for the series as a whole.

By the end I kept thinking, this is what people mean when they say RH doesn’t do slow burn very well. Because there’s so many men an author has to fit into a couple of books, it seems hard to deliver a meaningful relationship for every one. I know that’s not the case for every RH book out there, but it did feel like that here. I almost wouldn’t even classify it as a slow burn, but more not insta-lust? (Just my opinion, not fact).

I liked that the harem was not already established, but grew through the books.

The battle at the end was very simplistic. I enjoyed it regardless, because I cannot ignore the fact that we started out as a woman hidden as a man. I love that trope 😁

Not quite 4 1/2 stars.
This was a good conclusion to the series. There were a few places that left a little to be desired, but overall wrapped up the series. Cal/Calypso lost some of her mo-jo in this book, and I felt like she wasn't as bad-@ss as she was in the first 2 books, maybe it was the not being able to use her magic in this book for the most part. It made her the damsel in distress, instead of rescuing herself like she did in the first 2 books. The 4 guys in her RH, well I didn't really get a good feel for Marcus or Hawk, to be able to say I liked them. Fox & Ash were better than Marcus & Hawk, but not by much. I felt the guys could have been expanded on a bit more, to flesh them out. So much info went into Bear instead of the 4 in the RH. It's not a series I would want to re-read, but I did enjoy it & would recommend it to others as it was a unique series, not like anything I've read before.

When I started this series I was so excited about it, then there was the book 2 speed bump...and now with the series concluded, it feels like it didn't fully recover from that speed bump. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed it, it just didn't hit the same highs as the first book.

The magic system in this world is pretty cool - and I do like the conclusion reached in the world with the magic. There was just some loss of character building as we speed towards the end. Marcus and Hawk just don't read as fully fleshed out as Ash and Fox or even Bear. All in all it was a good read, just not as exciting as the first book.

This series was… not worth my time. That's the best way to put that.

I was bored 90% of the time. It was predictable and frustrating because of it. None of the characters had any depth and lacked any kind of personal development that didn't have anything to do with getting magic powers.

Cal is the worst FMC that I've read in a while. Her “quartz” powers were absolutely ridiculous and felt like a cop-out to make things easy and end the series.

I didn't have fun here. I rolled my eyes too much. I was annoyed too much. The story never even tried to surprise you. It just followed the cliche tropes and embraced the fact that it wasn't trying to be any kind of different.

Ooey Gooey Mushy Love Boat!

I loved this so much, I hated it had to come to an end. If only I could read it for the first all over again. The sighs, giggles, love making. I miss it already. The ending was fitting.

My complaints is I'm confused over the mines and need for stones. If they were needed so badly, why weren't they used at all by the divine? What did this have to do with the land dying?

Some grammatical errors here and there, but not horrible. It's a well written collaboration. Helen Scott and Ellabee Andrews created magic within these pages. Well done.

Book Three proves that these ladies (Helen and Ellabee) know how to put a great storyline together. With Calypso disappearing off during a battle, the scene moves onto the Divines - Marcus' world where we also get a whole lot more of Hawk thrown in. This third book steps it up a notch on the swoon worthiness and heat of her boys, as well as quite a few twists in the tale that you won't see coming. The ending has justice dished out and a great HEA all round. Excellent 5 star read. Highly recommend this series.

4 stars bc I liked it but I felt like it had the potential to be more. I’m writing this later (after reading via audio) so I can’t remember at what point it happened but somewhere along the way something happened and by 1/3rd way through book 3 it felt like the story was being rushed.

There was good set up for a long, complicated but interesting book 3 and/or even potentially a book 4 but instead it shifted more to telling not showing and wrapping everything up quickly (and in some instances unsatisfactorily).

This feels like a series that could have been great it just wasn’t done yet.

I really enjoyed this series and I'm sad that the series has come to end. It had plenty of intrigue, suspense, action, and of course steamy romance to keep you hook from beginning to end. I was really satisfy by how everything work out even though I felt like it was over quickly. Overall it was a enjoyable and entertaining read. I received a free copy via booksprout I voluntarily read and review this ARC no monetary compensation was received and the opinions I have expressed are my own.

I love this series and the third book was amazing. At the very end of book 2, Cal was kidnapped and ended up in the hands of the enemy. This story begins as we watch Cal have to survive the Divine and figure out how to escape. It was sexy and a fun read as Cal figures out some truths and how all her men relate to her and each other. The ending was a blast and made me laugh. I thought it was a great way to end the series. Just an entertaining addicting read.

Why did it have to end?

This was over way to soon. I wasn’t ready, I loved it! She is kidnapped and has to find her way around, get herself out or get rescued, which will it be? So much self discovery here. I did feel it was a bit rushed, I feel like there were some areas that could have been fleshed out a bit better, but over all I really enjoyed this story. I’m giving the series, an overall 5 stars! This book, maybe 4.5.

2.5-3 stars.
Predictable ending with few editing mistakes and plot holes but all in all, an effort.
I’ll give you a little example of what I’m talking about; I can understand the resistance members having aliases yknow hawk fox bear and so and so. Butttt. They have to have a real name right? I mean they weren’t freaking born with those names and just happened to all become heads of the resistance. Apparently not. At least, we aren’t told of these names.

Fiery hot romance and exciting adventure...so much happens in this book as Cal finds her final twinstone mates and seals the deal(you can have more than one). She discovers important info about her line and family history and why her mates are changing. Will the resistance makes its final stand? Who will be left standing...? Will Cal and her mates survive...or will they risk it all and lose? Check out this epic conclusion to The Hollow!

The last book.
The story was finished quite nice, maybe a bit fast in the end. The relationship part also had a nice finish, but she/they did that in the epilogue. Personally, I like it when the relationship part is finished before the story is finished, and then the epilogue can be their happily ever after.

Fantastic ending

This book is a fantastic ending to this series. I laughed, cried and was on the edge throughout the book. I cannot wait to see if there will be present in this world with some of the side characters. I would love to see more collaboration with headstones. Bravo ladies for a wonderful series.
