Isabella is used to running. She spent years trying to get away from her former love, and finally, it ended up that getting stranded a few galaxies away ended up working like a charm. She swore that despite how pretty it looks from the outside, she'd never let herself get involved with anyone again. She'd thought she had heaven once, and it had turned into hell. Clearly, her judgment when it comes to the male species is more than a little suspect.
And a womanizing, bed-hopping, cocky alien pilot is exactly the last thing she needs. No matter how intensely Balor looks at her, how smooth his voice is, how much he makes her fantasize about doing filthy, mind-numbing things with him. Getting caught up in the fantasy of him would only end up hurting her. Been there, done that. Balor Losing those you love is part of Izothian life, thanks to their millennia-old war with their enemy, the Sa'tar. And Balor has lost enough: his mother, his father... even the female he'd vowed to take as his mate. Connections only hurt in the end, and the fewer of those you have, the better. So why can't he get the sweet, brilliant, soft-spoken little Earthen out of his head? And why does she have him wanting to do crazy things... like beg her to be his forever?
Balor is the third book in Elle Harper's Izothian Chronicles alien romance series. If you like blue, sexy cinnamon roll heroes, feisty, yet vulnerable heroines, intergalactic war, and plenty of toe-curling sex, this is the book for you!
Isabella was so desperate to escape her husband, she went that extra step and escaped Earth, too. But a year on a new world, watching her friends pair off and start families, has wheels spinning. Sadly, the only one who interests her is exactly the one who she needs to avoid. If she could keep her heart separate, she'd drive him like a cheap rental with full insurance. But he's a dangerous temptation to her heavily guarded heart.
Balor may be known for hitting it and quitting it, but he never makes promises of more. His heart was ripped out when his fiance died. He's not about to let anyone else get close enough for a repeat of that. But, a year of same old same old, and his one liners being rebuffed by the tiny, beautiful, and frustratingly intelligent human has him reconsidering his stance. When he actually talks to her, he sees something he needs. Now he just has to convince her that he's not who he was, he's her mate.
Spoilers ahead. While I was looking forward to seeing Isabella poke holes in Balor's ego, this took a different turn. And, in fact, it almost felt forced after Aavi revealed a previously hidden talent. They were already on their way there without that interference. It made what felt organic, feel contrived. We don't see much of the new Pythia citizens, not any individuals at least. And then, just as Isabella and Balor are finding their feet, a rescue mission brings back something unexpected. I wholeheartedly approved of how Isabella handled that, and Aavi, too. Although, the near isolation from everyone else could have been interpreted as avoidance rather than necessary decision making time without influence. So, as you can tell, this book brings out the feels lol. Balor, for all his past, was always completely honest. Isabella eventually opened up the protective barriers. And, other than when space was needed for a clear head, they communicated. I am a little confused at how the world building has halted, though. We still only know of life on the base, and not much of that. We have new citizens that we only have a vague physical description of. And now, in that last bit, we have more beings to shuffle in. And what happened to Leah and Viv? They weren't mentioned at all this book.
Balor is weighed down by his past, not even bothering to struggle to break free... aware on some basic level why he is the outpost 'man whore', but not seeing a reason to change, or risk being a different kind of person... not until the one woman who truly captures his attention won't have anything to do with him.
Isabella has been hurt. Her trust betrayed. She is not going to let just anyone into her life, and she is most definitely not going to be a notch on someone's bed post.
Both of these characters end up facing their pasts... and, at least to a degree, trusting one another with the truth, and the pain, of their past. Trust, in a variety of ways, is at the core of this story which keeps Isabella and Balor front and center at all times, yet gives enough time to Janaa and Alanaar as well as their leader that I find myself hoping this series has three or four more stories.
Valor is an Izothian playboy, always loving them for a night and moving on. Half the time he doesn’t even remember their names! Until Isabella. She’s a human who has no time for the handsome playboy. It doesn’t matter that he gives her butterflies and is hot as hell. But fate is a tricky mistress and eventually the two give into their mutual desire. Past heartaches, his reputation and her baggage put a lot of obstacles in their way and when Balor’s past comes back to haunt them it will take true love and commitment for them to find their HEA. It was a good book and although I wanted to smack Isabella for her decision at one point, I did understand the necessity.
Balor is the kind of guy who loves them and leaves them. He doesn't remember names. He is fine with his life. He doesn't apologize for it. Isabella is happy on Izoth. She has a new job she is looking forward to and has left behind her life on Earth. Happily. But fate has something else in mind. But can these two put the past behind them and look to a future? Elle Harper has drawn me further in to this world and I'm so thankful for each book. These aliens will wear on your heart. In the best way possible.
''....Fall asleep cuddled against her. He frowned. He didn't cuddle. Cuddling led to feelings, and he didn't do feelings.'' Page six showed some promise of a good story but it became the typical manwhore background with a sad story who meets the one and only female to change his ways. Remove his blue/purple colour and the little additional body part (no spoiler) and he would be just another often portrayed in romance male. Damn. No wows.
Balor is a hot middle child with intimacy issues . Isabella is disillusioned and escaping intolerable marriage . She did the only thing she could to escape an abusive husband , join a space mission. Brought together Balor and Isabella heal each other's wounds and fall in love. Good story.
Another solid book in a great series. I love the world created in this series and really enjoy the characters as well. This is definitely a series I will continue.
