I was annoyed with ALL characters in this book. This book has all the makings of a bad book. Overprotective father? CHECK! Annoying main character? Double Check! Supportive friend that´s not really supportive? Check again! Bad love story? Check check check! Save your money, don´t buy it, throw your money in the fountain and you will spend it better than I did.
This was wattpad worthy. Not the hidden gem wattpad though, oh no. Im talking about the cringe cliche wattpads you read when you are twelve.
The book had some cute parts i'll admit, but that was mostly ruined by the amount of suggestive actions this teen girl took just because she had a new roomie. (which by the way they didnt even share an entire room together, it was more so the house because they had seperate rooms)
Also can we mention the fact that this girl needs new friends? They are honestly such a bad influence and lowk provoked her to do such wild things to get rid of the guy.
Honestly don't know how this was published but it needs to stay on wattpad LMFAO
She didn't know how hot she was. He didn't know how to deal with his crush. She was clumsy, he was a protector. I don't mind cliches, but some of this made no sense.
Chase wonders why she believes the worst in him - he did a terrible thing to her and never explained why. Ally says she refused to be walked over - her friends walk all over her all the time. They keep talking about how feisty she is but they never really show it. .
But I can get over that, what really bothered was when Chase .
Oh and you can't tell me the dad, who didn't let his kids date,
guys this book was so extremely questionable that tears are welling up in my eyes while thinking abt it to write this review.
i dont actually remember what happened but there was one scene. ONE SCENE. that stuck with me. i think this book should come with complimentary eye bleach.
i dont even wanna say it oh gosh
actually. im not gonna say it.
see ya!!! dont read it to find out or you'll regret it!
3.5 stars. I mostly enjoyed it, but there were some things that irked me.
Cute book. I was expecting a typical “enemies to lovers” story but was pleasantly surprised.
Like many other reviewers, I didn’t really like Ally. She was whiny and selfish. Sure, having your “enemy” living across from you might not be ideal but she should have stopped for one minute and thought about how he must be feeling.
I don’t really know how I feel about Chase. He was a bit annoying as well. I understand why Ally disliked him for so long, but don’t really get why he didn’t get along with her.
I really disliked Tessa. Sure she was trying to help Ally and she was looking out for her friend, but she should be supporting Ally and not trying to convince her to do something she didn’t want to do.
I want more of Shane! He seemed like a really great brother and friend. I want to know how he was dealing with everything.
Man, Ally and Shane’s father might be one of my least favorite parents ever. I get that he wanted what was best for Ally and he had a tough time raising them on his own, but he was so strict on them, but especially Ally. He was putting too much pressure on her. Not to mention, generally teenagers with lots of restrictions are usually the ones to rebel. And then making it okay for her to date just because he was Chase and he was a good student? Have some faith in your daughter.
The whole plan seemed stupid to me. I understand that Ally likes to plan, but the steps seemed so childish. Not to mention, as Chase pointed out, Ally wasn’t acting her normal self. And most of the plans involved Ally wearing clothes that were nonexistent. Is that really the best way to catch a guys attention?
What happened to Mia? And Miles disappeared for a while as well. Personally, I hate when characters disappear in the middle of a book and then either never come back or make a small appearance at the end. If they weren’t going to be in the rest of the book, what was the point of including them in the first place.
The cover on the kindle is definitely a cartoon version of this , or else I wouldn’t have chosen it if I saw it had real people HA ehhhh like 2.8 stars , cuteness came at the end idk too much fighting like just say you like eachother and go
I love dual pov’s so that helped make this book better cz I wouldn’t be able to stand reading it from just her character
The brother gives up on stopping her from dancing on a pole?
Jerk
The father forces her to quit her only outlet so she can study?
Jerk
Chase looks at her dance when his purpose was to stop her?
Jerk
She tries to seduce him so her father figures out they’re dating and he kicks him into the streets?
Jerk
Her friends force her to wear skimpy clothes and too much makeup which she supposedly doesn’t want to do?
Jerks (though i’ll admit she agrees fast enough)
They’re all… ughhhh
I’m so sick of a) characters who are “sweet and never dress provocatively” agreeing in 0.1 milliseconds to wear their friends’ outfits and b) a compromising video being leaked. UGHHHH.
I might have strained my eyes from the eyerolling. And my new catchphrase is ughhh. That’s what this was.
Check this: (SPOILERS)
“She’s also a complete loser, and you’re way out of her league,” the other boy shot back. “Why would you settle for sweet and pretty when you could have Jenna Fox? I hear she’s been asking about you tonight.” “She has?” The shock in Declan’s voice made my stomach drop to my toes. Jenna was the most popular girl in school. I’d never have a chance at dating Declan if she was into him. “She has,” the other boy confirmed. “And you’d be crazy not to follow up on that. Ally Lockwood spends her whole life with her eyes glued to her latest book. She’s more invested in imaginary worlds than the real one. Wouldn’t you prefer a girl who’s after a real boyfriend rather than some make-believe one?”
Isn’t it just… ughhhh? *eyeroll*
Nobody talks like that. That’s not a conversation you actually have with somebody is it? Like, seriously?
But that’s just Chase. His Chasers (no I did not make that up) have inflated his ego. He’s an asshole. He hates Ally, because “she should have been thankful that i saved her from Dirty Declan “ or Douchebag Declan or some shit like that. Haaaaave you met explaining things? (it’s a reference. I’m not that weird)
However, our favourite egomaniac isn’t the only hateful character (as you might have guessed from my very poetic beginning). Everybody in this book is horrible except Miles (his names was Miles right?).
Is the hate real? Yes. Does that make this a good enemies to lovers? NO. Now, I might like to note I dnfed this, BUT I wouldn’t wish Chase on anyone. You see, I blissfully believed that guys didn’t care about your clothes as long as you dressed nicely (ask Jane Austen), but apparently they analyse your outfits. Or at least this guy. Ohhhhh, I just wanted to slap him. How on earth they end up together is quite a mystery to me. But I guess with Miss Pole on the case, it was easy pickings.
I wouldn’t force this on anybody. But I guess it’s all up to taste isn’t it? This was just a big NO for me. In all capitals.
I mostly feel nostalgia towards these books, they’re what got me into reading back in 2019. Is it cheesy? Yes. Does the main character really annoy me? Yes. Is Chase very boring? Yes. Do I still love them and their relationship? ABSOLUTELY.
Im not saying this is a masterpiece, because it isn’t. But I sometimes I just enjoy books for how they make me feel instead of because of how good they are. Does that make sense? This book makes me full of joy and that’s whats important.
Ok it's more of a 3 but some parts were a 4 and ugh I'm confused. It was definitely not as wonderful as The Wrong Bachelor and it was missing something. I didn't like the main character as much. Ally wasn't easy to like. She whined a lot. She was petty and selfish and immature. I understand she's 17 now but seriously, she's still mad that Chase "ruined" her chances of kissing Declan ... as if Chase knew her plan was to kiss Declan. 3 freaking years later, she's still pissed about it. I would understand more if she was mad about his "why would you want to be with a girl like Ally" than ruining the kiss but that comment never was brought up again.
So whatever, I still don'tget that you're mad but how pathetic and miserable are you that you want to get a KID (cause they're basically kids) kicked out of the only home he has right now because you can't be civil. I hated that she didn't even bother to see his side .. how it's affecting him, without his parents there and so on. Ugh she was so annoying. I liked it when Chase would actually annoy her even without him trying, she was just being petty. She said he was mean to her over the 3 years but we never really have proof? If how Chase was treating her in the beginning of the book was an indication of how he "miserably" treated her over the years ... I don't get. Cause nothing he really did warranted her hatred?? Shane (Ally's twin brother) loves Chase and I highly doubt he would actually allow Chase to do anything evil to Ally. They aren't close siblings for twins but when Ally was really upset with Chase about the leftovers and all, he brought it up to Chase. When Ally was getting bullied in school, he did everything he could to protect and help her. So if Chase was ever mean to Ally (like really mean in the way Ally seemed to think Chase treated her) Shane would not have stood up for it. So there were some definite plot holes.
The father annoyed the crap out of me. Instead of helping his daughter deal with everything, he pushes her to study basically 24/7 and have no fun. Bitch it's high school. Let her relax a little. And the fact that he's continually hounding on her to be better (in a non constructive way) makes it seem as if she's stupid or not good enough. Meanwhile, he praises Shane. How unfair. I want a book with Shane because he was really awesome. I really liked Chase. Oh! I don't like Tessa. Well actually, I liked her in the beginning where she 100% her best friend and stood up for her but then her stupid plan in trying to rob a guy from a solid home ... ugh. Then forcing her friend to do things she's not comfortable with. Then watching her friend dance on a pole and seeing guys leer at her nastily and not do anything to stop her?? Then when Ally comes to her senses, feeling the guilt of kicking out Chase, Tessa was soooo vindictive. Like what did Chase ever do to her? Even when Ally explains everything, Tessa was like no you have to make him miserable just because.
The drama totally could have been worse and I was expecting it. I was expecting Chase to actually be kicked out and Ally to feel all the guilt of betraying someone who felt like he was unloved by his own parents and to find out he's also unloved in this household. I wanted Ally to just be so torn up about what she did to Chase because she deserved that kind of personal hell for even wanting to get him kicked out in the first place. Maybe super dramatic but I thought it would've been better than what we were given.
It is extremely difficult to discover either an adult or a young adult romance featuring the trope, "enemies to lovers," in which neither of the sparring partners is a jerk. In the case of this story, the FMC, Ally, and MMC, Chase, are enemies because they don't communicate, and Ally is a spiteful brat, who has carried a hate-filled grudge against Chase for three years because of a misunderstanding of his motivation toward her. I really struggled getting through this story because of the downright vindictiveness Ally displays against Chase throughout this book. I also squirmed at the multiple humiliating situations she gets herself into because of bowing down to the demeaning suggestions of the girls she considers her friends.
Both the Kindle version and Audible version of this novel are currently free through Amazon Prime library.
SO CUTE SO GOOD DONT LISTEN TO THE HATERS SHES SO CYTE HES SO CUTE TESSA SO CUTE EVEN THE SIDE CHARECTERS WERE CUTE OMFG CHASE ISADORABLE PROTECTIVE AHHH HIGH SCHOOL ROMANCE. BROOO
“Okay, okay. I’ll tell you this: we fight pretty much every day, but every fight ends when he starts laughing and kisses me on the nose. He almost always lets me win.” IS THIS TOO MUCH TO ASK FOR?
another book i started in 2025 and never finished… yeah… I honestly would’ve been fine. Not finishing this book but I wanted to get through with it. It was super cheesy and honestly really cringe I’m sorry 😭 the last 50 pages were so rushed, and I felt like a majority of the book’s plot was kind of ridiculous. I liked another one of her books, but this one was definitely a Wattpad story for sure.
“I love everything about you, including every little thing I thought I hated. You are the most stubborn, most annoying pain in the ass I’ve ever known, but you’re my pain in the ass, and I’m not letting you throw us away.”
Aww wait this was actually rlly cute. I js found this randomly on kindle unlimited and I wanted to read smth easy, fast, and nothing too long or deep. This actually seemed like a wattpad type romance at first but it was actually pretty enjoyable. It wasn’t as cheesy as I thought it was and the storyline was pretty clever at some moments. It wasn’t anything absolutely amazing, but it kept me entertained and the romance/banter was pretty cute!! Omg bro the FMS made me so so so so so so mad I wanted to punch the wall. SHES SO ANNOYING. She played with him way too much idk how he stayed. Anyways I hate her. Ok bai bai like my review pls 🦄 4⭐️
I LOVE THIS BOOK. OH MY GOSHHHHH. it’s super sweet innocent love and no smut which is great, it’s a real enemies to lovers and i love that it tells you why they’re enemies and i would def recommend read it now.
I always will love an enemies to lovers trope!!!! Ally and Chase are the embodiment of this trope. Ally slayed clearing up that rumor PERIODDD I really would love to see Tessa and Shane’s story 👀
the blurb is such a lie but if it weren’t this book could’ve been really good but nothing really happened so… ALSO THE COVER IS SO DISGUSTING I WANT TO DIE
I could not put this book down. It was such a good enemies to lovers romance! My favourite line of the book is when Chase told Ally: “I didn’t have a choice, Ally, because if I didn’t hate you, I would love you, and loving you would only break my heart.”
This book gave me “10 things I hate about you” vibes and I was all for it. I really liked Ally. I totally understood why she was so upset with Chase and why she would jump to conclusions about everything she thought he had done. But at the same time, I never hated Chase - there was always a vulnerability about him which is why I think this story worked so well.
This is the second book I’ve read by the author and I will definitely be buying more!
i picked it up cuz it was so cliche and i need to read something wattpad-y gosh i loved wattpad and missed the giddy feeling when i read it, but unfortunately the only feeling i got when reading this book was: annoyed.
the characters are beyond stupid and annoyng like i skimmed so much bc i hated reading their povs (both from the fmc and mmc) AND even the bestfriends are annoying not one single character is good in this book.
their reason to "hate" each other is so dang ridiculous, and the constant worrying ohh i like him oooh he was bad three years ago yadayadayada for 200 pages made me wanna throw my kindle but what can i say i love to torture myself apparently. shouldve dnfd read something worthwhile
Fun quick read! Nothing to memorable about it as finished it earlier this month & can’t think of anything outstanding I remember about it!! Lol just now getting around to good reads to record it! Great beach read!
I don’t know where to start? I absolutely LOVED THIS BOOK! The way the story planned out was just perfect! I actually loved this so much that I don’t know what to write 🤣
