DeAnna Kinney is what you could call an eclectic writer at its best. If she can dream it, she can write it. Her main focus is YA Paranormal but also writes New Adult and Adult Romance, Action Adventure, Children's books, and even an Apocalyptic Christian Thriller Romance. She considers herself as fun-loving and a bit peculiar. Besides writing, she loves reading, all things purple, Star Wars, acting like a goofball with all of her friends, and dancing while she cooks (she can see her kids rolling their eyes as we speak). She believes whole-heartedly that chocolates and a good book go hand in hand. And, having experienced it herself, believes utterly in the power of true love. She lives in the lovely North Carolina with her husband, four kids, and a dog named Link (aka Monster).
She is very hands-on with her fans and thrives on their interaction.
Her upcoming works include:
*Maybe something about Zombies, Bullying, and perhaps the end of the world, although not necessarily in that order.
Once I started reading it I couldn't put it down and I couldn't believe how quick I read it and I want oh so much more!
This book has, love, loss, drama, suspense and a whole bundle more. Don't forget a hot Fae protector with a sexy Scottish accent and a werewolf and vampire war, hidden identity and history.
The relationship Emerald has with her protector Ren and her goofy new werewolf friend Ricky, her new brooding werewolf friend Riggs and you can't forget her trusty sidekick husky Beta (who I absolutely love and want) as they try and end the long time war between the two races.
All I can say is bring on book 2 and the introduction to the Fae world and possibly more drama and love.

I really loved this book. The storyline is well written and keeps you gripped. I loved the characters which where brought to life that i didnt want to put this book down and I recommend reading.
Great story with lots of action and a good romance to sink your teeth into. This was a really fast-paced book and I was never bored as the story never stopped moving. The romance between Ren and Em is realistic and even though the events in the story take place over a short period of time, their romance didn't feel rushed at all. I will definitely be looking at the sequel and am intrigued at where the story will go after the way this one ends.
This story is about werewolves, vampires, fae, sirens and a curse. Emerald is on the run for her life. Her life is endangered from Vampires and Werewolves. Who can Emerald trust, Ren the fae or the two werewolf brothers? How do you break a curse that happened long before you were born? How did the war start? Who will win in the Monster War?
I hate to say it, but that's basically my mood towards this book. It wasn't bad. There were only a few grammar mistakes, and one single word that seemed to switch it from third person to first person point of view one time. (That might not matter to some people, but these things annoy me when they happen too often in a published book.)
So, it wasn't bad. Like, I don't feel like I wasted my time by taking the time to read it. But I don't really feel like I gained anything from reading it either. Like, it's been on my kindle a while, and I'm glad I finally read it so I can move onto something else... but I have no desire to go on and continue reading the series.
It's choppy. I think that's the right word, and I'm not even sure how to explain why I think that. It just... felt sort of choppy. I think I would've liked this better if it had been fleshed out more. Given more depth and turned into a full-length novel rather than the short story it was. And I mean, obviously I knew it was short when I got it for free off of Amazon. Your expectations based on the page numbers and that it was free have to be managed somewhat in that respect. But still...
I don't know, which I think is the thing that annoys me most here. I'm having mixed feelings about the whole book. Sometimes I like the main characters, and other times I'm like, 'well that was weird or stupid'. And when Ricky says that . It also ended rather abruptly. . Like, one minute everything has hit the fan, and then the next, everything is good. For those wanting to know if there's a cliffhanger or HEA, please see this quick note here:
Again, it's a short book. Expectations have to be managed. But... rather than make me want to continue reading more in the series, it just made me wish that there had been more to this book. Like it wasn't meant to be this short, but the author suddenly found herself on a budget and cut out more than half the novel so it could still be published. (If that makes any sense.)
Anyway, it's more like 2.25 stars, cause I don't really regret reading it. But I'm not sorry it's over, and I won't be continuing with the series.
