I received my education in Los Angeles, and joined the workforce a couple of years after graduating college. I did not start writing poetry until later in life. Friends, and family really enjoyed the beautiful words I shared with them from my poems. So, I continued to write, and published my first prose poetry book "Wonders" in 2009. Author/Poet, Kevin Hollingsworth has two published works of prose poetry, "Wonders" and "Romance With A Touch of Love" and coming Fall 2017 a new compilation of 106 poems titled; "Stellar."

Although born a "Dreamer," writing came later in Kevin's life, just for fun in his spare time. He received positive feedback on his writing from friends, acquaintances and family. He continued to write in his free time because he enjoyed it and he liked putting smiles on people's faces and love in their hearts.

Not an uncommon reaction after someone read a humble literary creation of his poetry. As simple as it sounds, Kevin guesses people will never know they may have an aptitude for something unless they try it. We all are born with gifts and seeds for above.

If Kevin's writing can bring a sparkle of joy, or happiness to someone's life; if his writing can touch people in a meaningful way, then he knows at least he can feel good that he has done something right in his life and legacy.

A graduate of UCLA with a BA in Psychology, Kevin resides in Los Angeles and when not writing he enjoys salsa dancing.

"Stellar" is an interesting as well as compelling book of prose poetry that encompasses the wonderment of love."

This is a book of 107 poems, thoughts, musings that encompass the wonderment of love. Emotions are on parade here.

My favorite is the very first one .... America. Patriotism at its finest.

This book is not a Roses Are Red book ... they are thoughts and emotions that come from the heart. This would make a nice addition for anyone who loves poetry.

Stellar by Kevin Hollingsworth is an impressive collection of emotional poems that are sure to tickle the reader's emotions.

I enjoyed reading this book and I am glad I read it in the first place. I am not a big poetry fan, but I do enjoy simple and meaningful poems, and this book was exactly that. On the romantic side of the spectrum, Stellar succeeds in grabbing the interest of the reader from the very first poem itself. From the very beginning, I knew it was going to be a rollercoaster of emotions and the book did not disappoint.

The language was good and there was clarity of thought which could be clearly noticed. The poems themselves were little treats and overall, it was an enjoyable and quick read.

If you like reading poetry by new and talented poets then you must definitely read this book.

An unusual odyssey of figurative language...

Stellar by poet and author, Kevin Hollingsworth doesn’t have the timeless wisdom and beauty of Shakespeare or the tender love poems of Lord Byron. Perhaps, it’s not meant to be classic literature as the poems read to me like poetry versions of flash fiction. Nothing wrong with flash fiction, but I personally like the more fabulist kind.

I understand that people get obsessed with structure, trying to choose the correct form they want to use in poetry (perhaps trying to learn their style, or approach in the process). The poet here, it seems, prefers to let go and blend one idea or event into the next, lest he loses the soul of it trying to fit it into something that never should have been.

If you are looking for the poet inside the poem, look for the undercurrent he or she has left, the continuous hint of feeling, it should be everywhere. Perhaps on a different day or in a different mood I might find it. Recommended as something different for poetry lovers.

Stellar is a beautiful collection of love poems. The poems are dedicated from a man to a lady. Some poems have names attached to them, while others are dedicated to unknown girls. Different poems show different images of love and beauty. One is an example of unfulfilled love, another an example of distant love, yet a third one an example of forbidden love and so on. The words are beautiful and arouse deep emotions.

An example of the lines that touched me-
"I wanted to touch her, but I just could not reach her pedestal.
She was to be respected not tasted.
She was to be protected not exploited.
She was to be adored not had.
I adore you, my lady.
Yes. I adore you."

Such kinds of lines show deep maturity and a respect for women. In current age when everyone is looking for wish fulfillment and pursuing their desires, these lines show the true meaning of love
As a woman I really enjoyed these lovely verses where a lady is kept on a pedestal, revered and worshiped. I look forward to reading more of them.

Stellar by Kevin Hollingsworth is a collection of poems by the author. Being presented with these poems is like receiving a basket of fruit. All are magnificently ripe and visually appealing. Once you bite into the first one, then the next...you'll find them to be all just as sweet. The theme that flows through at their core, is that of love and infatuation. There are also themes of tragedy and loss. So this collection of poetry encompasses the whole human experience. There is an adolescent simplicity to the writing style and perhaps this was intentional. This sensitive collection rocks the reader gently as you turn the pages. There is an old saying; "Life is cruel, but cruelest to those who love." My own little addendum; "...But he who has not loved, has not lived." There are no worms in this fruit basket.

‘Her beauty was timeless, and forever could not forget her.’

California poet Kevin Hollingsworth was educated in Los Angeles and began writing poetry for publication in 2009. His debut was the respected WONDERS followed by ROMANCE WITH A TOUCH OF LOVE and now he presents his third volume of prose poetry STELLAR. Having followed Kevin’s writing career it is with pleasure to recommend this very sensitive, humanistic collection of thoughts and dreams by a man who obviously shares in making the world a better place.

Kevin’s style is placing prose in poetic format so that intimate conversations with the reader become sheer poetry. He adds art to his pages that enhance meaning. As with discussions of the works of all poets it is better to let the poems speak for themselves. The following are but a few examples from his generous collection.

Blessing in Disguise
As he fainted, he saw her from the corner of his eye.
She was as pretty as the French language.
Her song was like a dream he once knew.
Her love was not an evil deed, but a blessing in disguise.
He had nothing in this life.
Her blessing in disguise was all he wanted.
She gently told him the truth,
which he could not bear;
that her love was promised to another.
As he fainted, he saw her from the corner of his eye.
She was as pretty as the French language.
Her song was like a dream he once knew.

Stellar

Stella was beauty that they could not understand.
Her beauty was surrounded by smiles that admired her.
Elegance commented that she looked too good.
Attraction realized her magnetism as she glided up the stairs.
Her buttocks were kindly painted by artists with so many talents.
Nature nurtured Stella’s body, and her body pleased Nature’s eyes
every time she looked her way.
Sensuality had to make Stella part of the conversation as her
future was promising.
She was more than robust.
She was more than magnificent.
Her trademark was stellar, and so was her beauty.

Raj

I could see his wonderful smile through the breeze.
His grace was untouchable, and his heart was yours.
He felt like the light of the world.
The sun and the stars admired his shine. I
admired the sun and the stars, but I admired Raj's shine even more.
He was here for a short time, but he dazzled us with his warm heart.
His generosity made love to the world. We thank you, Raj, for your kindness.
He is gone, but his charm is not.
He is gone, but his heart is not.
Raj is gone, but his kindness will be with us until our dreams can
no longer dream.

Gentle, simple, and touching. These lovely thoughts play mendicant for our times when we most need beauty.

Stellar by Kevin Hollingsworth is a book filled with writings on love. His words paint sometimes pretty, lonely, deep pictures of love about different people, places and things. I recommend this book of prose to anyone wanting to read and share thoughtful words of love. You'll get the good, the bad, the lovely and it will make you think in different ways. You'll read about love that doesn't last, love that makes you hurt, love that is hard to find, love that is enduring! One of my favorite poems from this book is Desire, about a love that has been searched for for a lifetime, but is hard to define, and elusive. Each poem in this collection is written delicately for every reader who picks it up to enjoy! This is my first time reading anything from Kevin Hollingsworth but I am glad I picked up his book and will share it with my husband and other loved ones.

In Stellar, Kevin Hollingsworth treats us with a free verse poetry that just gives you a glimpse of his heart. I would not consider his poetry a window, but a peep hole into his life as he writes of an array of items that has touched him. He write of beauty, love, and power. My favorite verse was from Bulgarian Princess, "She reminded me of the sea when the sun was in love". I get a vivid picture of the sunrise against the ocean, but just like love it has many colors.

I find Kevin Hollingsworth work beautiful, yet mysterious as he begins a picture in the mind eye, yet lets the reader finish it with their own thoughts. Stellar has an array of topics, making this an interesting read.

While I did not like the layout of the poems sentences, I found most of poems enjoyable, honest and captivating. Hollingsworth's beautiful array of poems on love and life feels like stepping into a modern day Song's of Solomon. Several of the poems magically capture the essence of a character novel waiting to develop, leavings its reader wanting to know more about the individual mentioned in each poem. Each poem is a digestible bite size, easy to read. I particularly enjoyed the humor in America's dream.

While the author is clearly inspired by the women he has met and the romances/relationships he has experienced with them, the fact that there is no rhythm and no structure to these poems greatly reduces their potency. The best poems should be able make your heart sing. The combination of emotional depth and poetic artistry that is required for this to happen is absent here. Still, the author is clearly a man who is not afraid to put his heart on the line in his search for love and companionship, and for that he must be commended.

I bought a digital version of this book on amazon.
Great poems to read at an affordable price.
The poetry book is an easy read.
Nice and simple design.
The poems are beautiful and detailed with great imagination.
Most of the pages have colorful pictures or photos connected with the poem’s topic.
I especially like the following poems from this book: Cold as Ice, My painting of you, One Night, A rainy day. :)
This is a great book, and I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to explore poetry.

I don’t read a whole lot of poetry so I can’t call myself an expert in the form, nor could I critique a poem in what makes it good or bad. But I know when something pulls on the heartstrings, and these poems can do that. Reading them, I kept thinking that some of the poems would be great to read aloud at an occasion like an anniversary party, or to someone on Valentine’s Day. Others were very sad and probably written after a breakup, something we’ve all gone through. Some of us curl up on a couch with a tub of ice cream; others, like Kevin Hollingsworth, turn their feelings into art.
It was an easy read for me; in fact, I read the whole book in one afternoon. These are not epic, convoluted or lyrical poems that you need a master’s degree in English to appreciate. Simple, clear, touching, physical (the narrator(s) definitely appreciate the female form), and even beautiful at times, this would be a good primer for anyone looking to ease into reading poetry, or even how to write poetry.
But, really, this is not a book to be consumed in one hearty bite. This is the kind of book you keep on the kitchen counter, or on a side table in your living room, and consult when you’re looking for the right words to put into a sweet card for someone special. Or if someone has broken your heart and you need to know that you’re not the only one that’s happened to.
There is a certain repetitiveness to the language used throughout the poems, but I believe that’s because the author is trying to paint a certain picture, with each poem being another brush stroke, and evoke certain emotions (e.g. love gained, love enjoyed, love lost). Which contributes to my feeling that this is a book to be read when the occasion calls for it as opposed to a novel that you just can’t put down. An interesting collection that anyone could enjoy.

Warning, though I try my best to avoid this, all reviews can contain spoilers of some kind. If you would like to know just my overall opinion of the book, and otherwise go into reading it blind, please scroll down to my overall and would I recommend it section.

I Voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the publisher. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I am going to be up front and honest with you all, I am not an expert in poetry in the least. However I do know what I like and I enjoy good poetry enough that I read it often. I feel poetry is closer to art in word format than any other kind of writing. There are even some poems that create visual pictures through the placement of the words on the page. That being said the actual beauty of each poem is in the eye of the beholder. With that in mind, let’s take a look at my thoughts on this book of poetry.

Right off the bat I will say a really nice aspect to this is the pictures that are mixed in with the poetry itself, and no I don’t mean mental pictures, but actual images your eyes can feast on. Each image is remarkable in its own way, but beyond the colors on the screen is an idea about the individual poems around them. Each one tells a story about the artists view on the poems and what they were feeling at the time. Weather that be sharp colors that pop out and give the poem a bold feeling, beautiful images that add to the intimacy of the poem, or burly soft colors that add to the mysterious almost with in reach feeling, they simply add to the overall feel or present a whole new idea. I really think one of the best things about a poem is seeing and hearing all the different interpretations and feelings gained from them and this way of expressing that was just a wonderful addition to the book.

The other thing I really liked about this book of poetry is that it didn’t have an overwhelming sense of doom and gloom. I don’t like closing a book of any kind with an strong need to rush into my husbands arms for him to just hold me for awhile and make the ugliness in the world disappear. Now, I love being in my husbands arms, but the whole “I need a hug, make it go away” thing is not a look I enjoy wearing and sadly, books of poetry have a high possibility of making that happen. Instead of all that, by the time I closed this book I more felt the good sides of the world, life, and love. While I can enjoy the emotions of all the sad face, shaking in fear and feeling like your heart got torn out poetry, I more enjoy the beauty they can bring out in the world and I was overjoyed that this book more touched those warm fuzzy feels.

There are a lot of poems out there that force the reader to either scratch their head with a funny distorted expression plastered all over their face, or send them on a fascinating adventure that turns them into Jr. detectives, while they ferociously scour for clues as to the poets life, their history, and their beliefs using the powerful magnifying glass of the World Wide Web. While I can enjoy feeling like a member of Mystery Writers Inc, it can also be exhausting at times and not always what I am in the mood for. But, this is not the case with this book. The poems themselves in this story are simple and give the reader an almost instant sense of the intended or interpreted meaning. While I liked this, it is not a fact that is a bad, or good mark for this book. For some the thrill of the hunt is necessary to enjoy a book of poetry and for others a nice easy read is perfectly fine. It is, however, ideal for those just starting to read poetry.

Have you ever heard someone who can actually say a tongue twister ten times fast and get each word perfectly? You know how after the first two times the words start to blend together and you’re brain kind starts to tune them out and you need a little break to be able to hear it clearly? Yeah that whole repetitive nature is something no one really enjoys in long bursts. I think that’s why so many books of poetry wind up needing to be read in a time span of days no matter how easy of a read they are. Either the word choice in each is the exact same, or the rhyme patterns are identical. That is not a problem here, which for me was a really refreshing aspect. There were several poems that were very short, some were long, and they all had a slightly different layout to them. It kept things interesting for me and allows for the reader to get through them at a good pace.

For days after I finished this book, I felt a little like a cat with one of those ball in a track toys, just hitting it back and forth, back and forth. Honestly, if you could see inside my mind while I debated the ranking for this book, you’d probably dangle some sting in front of my face just to see if I’d react. I really had to reread and think long and hard on this book of poetry’s overall book review ranking. I debated weather to give it a three star review and a three and a half for several days. Taking a lot of different facts and elements into consideration I had to give it the three star ranking. The main thing that kept this review from getting the three and a half star ranking was not typos or any other writing mechanic flaw but rather a lack of deep emotion. To me there is a whole large picture for each emotion and the closer you get in description to little details, the more in-depth you are getting into that feeling. However, this book really felt like it was just looking at the big picture for each feeling it pulled forth. This is fine, and there is nothing wrong with it but it does keep it from ranking higher.

There were a lot of really good poems in this book that I really did enjoy, I think one of my favorites was Wild Filly. You and Beautiful was one of the most touching was really one of the most simple. There are also some that I was not so fond of such as Cold as Ice but that is part of the world of poetry and only adds to the beauty of how each poem can touch a person differently.

Overall:

This was a very simple read that only really deals with surface and just below the surface emotions, however it is still full of beauty. This is a perfect book for anyone just starting their journey into poetry or for anyone who is looking for a relaxing read.

One of the best aspects about this book of poetry is that is it not filled with doom and gloom. You will not need a tight hug from a loved one or a overly happy romance movie to recover from depression after reading it. For some this might be a bad thing, but for me I would much rather a book leave me as I was or happier about the world around me. This book is great for letting you see some of the beauty in the word around you.

Would I Recommend It:

For any book of poetry, it is so hard to accurately say “yes, yes go buy this book right now before you life explodes from not seeing the majesty in each and every page.” Poetry is so an eye of the beholder kind of thing that it is really hard for me to confidently tell anyone to go spend money on it. Therefore, I will leave you with an it’s up to you. To me the poems are beautiful in their own way, they are not god awful, nor are they riddled with typos and in desperate need for an editors touch, so if you enjoyed what you read above than give it a go. If your hesitant about it give the sample a try and see if it’s your cup of tea. The words on the page may be simple and surface level but they are beautiful all the same.

A book full of beautiful words that make up beautiful poems and prose

I love poetry, it has a way of taking me back to when I was a kid. My mom loved poetry as well and she and I would give each other word prompts every day to write poems with. This book is full of poems about love, admiration and some real life experiences from a guys point of view towards women. I hope someday that my SO appreciates and admired me as much as Hollingsworth admires so many women who have touched his life. The book is named after one of his poems in the book also called Stellar which is about a woman named Stella. The book is full of beautiful words put together to make beautiful poetry and prose. I’d read more from Hollingsworth. He has a way with words and he doesn’t hesitate to wear his heart on his sleeve with his writing.

The biggest mistake you could do when you pick up Kevin Hollingsworth’s latest prose poetry book, "Stellar", is to end up skimming through the collection of poems and be left with the impression that love is nothing more than a delusional mirage. Take the time to grasp the meaning of each piece and you’ll surely find yourself jotting down some memorable and encouraging verses. They could either be in a personal notebook (which functions as a sanctuary) or on colorful post-its, spread around your room, constantly reminding you to both share and seek out love.

The “flick-through” decision will urge you to believe that the author prefers to mostly linger over presentations of women’s somewhat typically luring movements. In reality, there’s much more than that. Love, the main topic which is meticulously explored, is displayed as a tender feminine touch. It could come in the form of a Desire, bold Confidence, uplifting Inspiration or an Eternal Promise. It could make a glorious entrance in the bodies of women whose names roll off your tongue like honey (Adriana, Karen, Sumira, Hazel, Julie Martin). However, there’s even a more noteworthy aspect to consider. Whether love embraces you or you embrace the tragedy of love, you picture shades of colors and read the poems with certain tones, purely based on the impactful atmosphere. The recalled moments usually take place in a natural environment and most of the time you feel as if the ocean, the breeze, the rain and the forest have suddenly become part of you. Could it be a mere suggestion that the specific feeling resembles the unmistakable sensation of having conquered the world? Maybe.

Indeed, there are many people out there who write about love. Therefore, why should you consider "Stellar" as well? In all its apparent simplicity, the book pushes you to ask questions. Could love be felt and cherished in countless different ways? Did the author gather bits and pieces he’s heard from family and friends, and came to create this collection of poems? Or do all the distinct perspectives belong to him, due to his changing point of view throughout his life journey so far? Because yes, it is quite fascinating how the writer has managed to talk about hope (“His last day on earth became the first day of his life when this beautiful flower simply told him that she loved him.”) and resignation (“I would never know, for death would take my hand before love took hers.”) in an equally credible way.

Just as I started the review with a verse from the poem entitled "Stellar", I want this collection to reach that praising point where other fellow writers quote Kevin Hollingsworth at the beginning of their books or pick suitably effective verses to place before each chapter of a story. And here’s a mental note which might help you in the future: as you’re reading the poems, imagine you’re sitting in a cozy living room with the author, drinking wine by a crackling fireplace. You ask him to recall both positive and negative moments from the past, in an artistic manner. As soon as he opens up, his carefully chosen words speak wonders. You’re absorbing the magical flow of light-hearted confessions (“I did, however, leave Sophistication with a sense of class; that I was somebody to a special person. / I faced homelessness with a sense of pride.”) and cordial warnings (“Beware of jealousy, for her life begins only when she ends yours.”). It doesn’t even matter if the writer talks about unshackling or mystifying experiences. There is proof that love truly exists and you receive a warm rush of reassurance in your soul. And this time, it’s not from the comforting fireplace.

Weekly Reader: Stellar by Kevin Hollingsworth; Poetry Book Sparkles With Words of Love and Loss
By Julie Sara Porter
Bookworm Reviews

Spoilers: Kevin Hollingsworth's book of poems, Stellar lives up to the name.

It is a wonderful book filled with prose poems that sparkles with love and ache with loss. Hollingsworth's words carry a lyrical beauty that reminds one of the ecstacy of falling in love and the pain when it is gone.

Many of the poems visualize concepts with personification comparing them to the love of a person. "America" describes the country as a woman. Hollingsworth writes " Music wandered through the sky/The mist touched her skin and, it felt so good/Red, white and blue combed her hair so fine/She was magnificent, and she was free/Her name was America, and I was/Proud to walk by her side."

Sometimes Hollingsworth does the opposite and compares lovers to other things like nature. In the poem, "Mirage," the desert optical illusion becomes an extended metaphor for a transitory love affair. "My throat was not quenched/As the sun pummeled it's searing heat/When I woke up, I looked around/There was no lover, and no lady of my dreams;/Just, the sun, the sand, the wind and/The desert's searing heat/Calmly by my side."

Hollingsworth writes unusual simile and metaphor to describe people. In "Blessing in Disguise", the Speaker compares a woman "as pretty as the French language/Her song was like a dream (he) once knew."

The title poem refers to a woman that sparkles with a beauty in which she is unaware. "Stella was beauty that they could not understand/Her beauty was surrounded by smiles that admired her/Elegance commented that she look too good/Attraction realized her magnetism as/She glided up the stairs"..."Sensuality had to make Stella part of the conversation as her/Future was promising/She was more than robust/Her trademark was stellar and so was her beauty."

Some of the best poems are what I call the name poems in which Hollingsworth titles a poem with person's name and the Speaker describes their love life with the title figure, often an unhappy affair. In the poem, "Christina," the Speaker compares meeting the beautiful Christina to waiting in line for something elusive but finding it like two beings dancing to the same music. Christina disappears from the Speaker's life leaving him once again waiting in line but this time not finding a suitable partner with whom to share the music.

Some name poems have a bittersweet context such as "Pamela's Heart." In this poem, the Speaker remembers his lover Pamela's beautiful kind heart and how she was the love of his life. However lines like "Love with no compromise/That was what Pamela was about" refer to Pamela in the past tense suggesting that she is no longer with the Speaker. Since the Speaker speaks so lovingly of Pamela and gives no indication that she left or broke his heart further implies that she died and all the Speaker has to remember her is of her good heart. The name poems individualize each subject and what the Speakers hold onto in their memories of them.

Hollingsworth's poetry captures love and heartache with imagery that fills you with sadness and longing. Hollingsworth is a true stellar poet.

Just Beautiful

One word that best describes this collection of poetry is beautiful. Everything about the book is just beautiful; each poem is beautifully written and encompasses the beautiful topic of love. The book is short, as most books of poetry like this usually are only about 140 pages, containing roughly 100 poems that are about 1 page each so this is a quick and easy read. Each poem features the theme of love, finding love, losing love, or looking for love, but each has love. These poems are not erotic, just about love, there may be mention of making love or sex but in none does it go into detail of the act itself so it will not lean into that genre. Pretty much all of the poems are from a male point-of-view about a woman. So if you are looking for something different from this you may be disappointed. Overall, I would definitely give this book 5 out of 5, I loved these poems, many were very quotable, ones that you would want to save in your repertoire to whisper in a loved ones ear or to toast to at special events like weddings. I liked the lengths of each, it made it the book as a whole flow better there were not parts that made it drag or feel too stuffy. The language was easy to read and understand, nothing to flowery where you would have to decipher the meaning of the poem. Just one beautiful collection of poems.

Stellar is a book of poetry and prose written by Kevin Hollingsworth. The author provided me with a copy in exchange for a review, and I'd like to thank him for that.

I normally don't read poetry, as I grew out of that phase when I was in high school. But I figured I'd give it a whirl and see what Stellar was all about.

The poems don't read like normal poetry. There's no real rhyme or reason to any of them. They sort of read like...journal entries, almost. At least that's how I viewed them. A lot of them are about the same topic/subject as well: a woman's beauty and love.

I did enjoy a couple of the poems in the book, but a lot of them started to feel repetitive and too similar to one another. I started to grow a little bored with all the talk about beauty and breasts and buttocks. That's just me, though.

I did feel like the book could have been a little stronger, and maybe less repetitive. I also thought it could have benefited from a better/nicer cover. Nothing against this one, but I like covers that speak to me and draw me in. If I had seen this book, with this cover, for sale in a bookstore or online, I probably would have bypassed it. Sorry.

Overall, Stellar is a short read, and while it's not bad, it wasn't quite my cup of tea. I do applaud the author, though, for putting his prose and poetry out there for the world to enjoy.

This is a copy provided by the publisher, NetGalley and the author in exchange of an honest review. Thank you to them!

This is a book compost with 107 poems and prose written by Kevin Hollingsworth that talks about a different perspectives about love, admiration about beauty of womens, losses, heartbroken and falling in love situations.

The author simply composed this amount of poems like a spectator that describes all of his passions and desapponitment about love, desire about all womens that he felt for. The type of writing is so simple that sometimes it made me feel too repetitive feelings with this poems, I only felt admiration from the author about differents women´s (which is good) but that´s all. I wanted more deep meanings with the words, and I don´t feel that.

In another hand, is a good book to all that want read about admiration of beauty of all kind of womens. There is a amount of respect with women represented on these poems, that was an amazing thing and I really appreciated.

Finally, I loved the poem called "The found me" that talks about love and how sometimes it´s easy to find it. particularly my favorite quote about this whole book was:

"Cold as ice she was.
Winter trembled at the sight of her.
Autumn´s coolest nights were no match for her coldness"

Happy readings :)

I used to write poetry back in high school and college but somehow life got in the way and I stopped writing and I still on occasion picked up a poetry book. Most of the time by authors I have read previously. I had seen this book advertised on Social Media and thought "interesting concept... I'll check it out." Now most books I add to my TBR list stay there for a bit but I was riding in the car with my husband and it was going to be a while until we got where we were going so I opened the kindle app on my phone and decided to dive in.

This is an impressive collection of poetry. From love for country, to love in general in all of its forms each poem takes you on a journey. Now they all aren't this untruthful look at love. It is the real life version of love where it's not always bright and easy but it's the struggles and strife which make it a beautiful ride.

Each love story is different and we really explore all of the facets with this collection. Some of my favorites include "The Most Beautiful " "One Night" and "Hatred"

For me this is a collection for those who are diehard fans of the genre and those of us who once dabbled but lost their Fire for the craft. Who knows maybe I'll pick up a pen again here soon?

The language of poetry is an expressive way to convey emotions that we feel when spoken words can feel limited. Love could be something everyone may experience only once in a lifetime, but to find a level of love in others would be an ultimate blessing.

In "Stellar," author Kevin Hollingsworth shares his perspective of love with his readers, through poetry. The most beautifully crafted collection of words that derive within one's deeper understanding of life with love and what it feels like to be without it. As you read each poem, you can feel and hear a tone of passion and a tone of loss through the words. The author encountered individuals and expressed what they were like, will have you hoping to meet someone as amazing as the women described. To find words that describe someone on a soul level demonstrates how in tuned most of us are, which is what you gather by this book.

I enjoyed reading this book because I am a poet, as well and the reading experience allowed me an opportunity into Kevin's world. Seeing these women through his eyes proves that we might not see what others do, proving that everyone's perspective should be respected. If you're into poetry, I highly recommend this book to everyone.

Stellar is a collection of modern romantic poetry.  Some of the poems are accompanied by artwork and pictures of the women who inspired Hollingsworth's poems of dreams, emotions, memories, Love and lost love.  There is an appreciation of beauty and his love of women is apparent in many of the poems.
In the poem entitled "Adore", the author writes of his adoration for a woman whose name is not known.  He feels that he is not meant to know her.  He is only meant to admire her beauty.
In "She Found Me", a woman searches for love. Nothing can stop her pursuit of happiness. There is a recurring theme of falling in love throughout the book.  There is a fascination and a desire the author has for the special ladies he has known.
"One Night" is a precious memory of a passionate night.  A moment that was so special and thought of with fondness.  "Midnight" involves the soft caress of a lover.  "Could Have Been" deals with the heartbreak of lost love. "Lucia, Lucia" is a dedication to a woman who cooks a meal for the author and he falls in love with her.
Hollingsworth confesses desires and dreams in Stellar.  He has a very easy to read writing style.  This is a good book for fans of romantic poetry.

Interesting and thought provoking

This book had a lot to it, not necessarily depth, though some poems were more pointed and prominent compared to others but you will get a vast array of poems, all of which have something to do with love. Some sad, some melancholy and some nearly erotic.

I gave this book 4.5/5 stars. Each poem was usually about someone, a loved one past or lost or missed for whatever reason, so the poems soon became redundant and dramatic, though I know that’s not what the author(s) we’re trying to convey. I found a lot of the poems to be very similar, but kept the high rating for the odd one out that caught me off guard and made me catch my breath.

The one qualm I have with this book wasn’t necessarily the poems, but the graphics used in the book. There wasn’t a flow with them, no theme, and reminded me of a clip art smattering. And I was shocked to find some women wearing lingerie to be the photo for a poem. It was embarrassing when my husband saw me reading a poem with a nearly naked woman on the page! I think a more centralized theme and similar graphic style through the book would have made leaps and bounds in the professional realm.

A Romantic Journey

I found the book Stellar by Kevin Hollingsworth, a book that is truly a beautiful compilation of unique poems. Altogether, it tells a story through the eyes of a man searching for love in the difficult material world we live in today. Through his many encounters he shows genuine appreciation and admiration of women; loving so many aspects of the many different shades of women who live around him. The only negative thing I see in this book is that sometimes the poems can be a little bit confusing and difficult to understand completely. However, this can simply be resolved by rereading the passages carefully. I particularly like the poem of his grandma. It is very kind as well and simple and sweet. It is a nice tribute to a woman he adored all his life. I also found this work from Kevin Hollingsworth insightful. From the author's struggles and successes to his happiness and disappointments, he kept striving to be happy and find the happiness he felt he deserved. Overall the book as a whole is a wonderful treasure of  thoughtful and sincere poems. I believe it's worth reading for anyone who enjoys a romantic journey.

Stellar is a wonderfully written collection of poetry and prose. of Kevin Hollingsworth’s poems reflect on women who are real to him or beautiful creatures of his expressive imagination. As I read each poem, I could visualize a romantic Hollywood movie-like vibe the writer expresses through dreamy encounters with each woman. To add to the reader’s mental imagery, graphics and photos accompany several of the poems.

As a woman, I appreciated reading other poems giving tribute to women and friends. One such poem is “My Little Star” and another is titled “Mother’s Day”. In his poem called “What Money Could Not Buy” Hollingsworth shares a captivating view of the power of love over wealth. These poems gave me a chance to see another side of the author’s talent.

Lovers of romantic poetry will find beauty in each word and will appreciate the value of their meaning. They include lovely expressions of nature as a woman, love, passion, and how chance encounters can become life-long memories of what could have been. After having read Stellar, I would be interested in reading more of Kevin Hollingsworth’s books of poetry.

“Stellar” is a book of prose poetry. While almost every emotion is addressed in the poems, the images and feelings that are invoked through the verse are vivid and outstanding. The poems about love show both the beauty of a love returned and also the loss in a love that is unrequited. The poems of death, while they do mention the loss, the real feeling I got from them is that we should go forward. Death is not a true ending, it is just a different beginning. I found that these poems, though not something I usually read, were just what I needed at this time. Some of them had pictures with them that helped give you some focus as you read. Others relied on your imagination to find your vision of what the words are telling you. The poems in this short book have given me something else to enjoy, and proven that it does not need to be in a pattern or rhymed. Kevin Hollingworth has done a favor to many readers like me who are afraid of the old poetry “rules” and gives us something new to read.
