Nyssa is lost in the throes of revenge. She wants Baron dead—deader than dead, really. With Cecil still fighting to live and the unknowns looming over her, Nyssa isn't sure what is up and what is down any longer. She does know one thing though. She's tired of the games. The shifters, witches, mages, and vampires need to get their shit together or she will do it for them. She doesn't care if they destroy themselves, as long as they take Baron along with them.
Revenge is a dangerous game that many don't survive. Will Nyssa lose herself to its clutches or will she rise above? Time is ticking for her. The only question is: Will she continue to be a survivor?
Transformation is the final installment to the From the Embers Duology, a fantastical journey of a strong female character who isn't afraid to embrace her dark side.
This conclusion to this story tied up lose ends and answered quite a few questions - but it felt rushed. Still satisfying enough, though emotionally empty. Her lost memories were explained, but it was a cop out reason that felt cheap to the character and the story thus far. While I DID like this book quite a bit, it would have been better to stretch this into a trilogy instead of a duet in order to give more flesh to these concepts and provide solid reasons behind the answers, an ending these characters deserve.
I enjoyed this story. The characters and story were truly a treat. I’d highly recommend it to those looking for a story that’s more than a book’s length but not as involved as a series. 5 stars
This one pissed me off. The whole book surrounded the lack of communication between "mates." It made me mad and cry. Still, it was well written. It just wasn't a happy book and I don't understand why the MC needed to go through this pain. For these reasons, I can't give it 4 stars.
Not really happy with some of H’s decisions and actions (or lack of actions /considerations) both in present time and past time that leads to h suffering.
A major thing happens were h/Nyssa discovers that she has made a mistake by H’s reaction, but apparently H is not as good at understanding Nyssa. Also the mistake could have been solved faster, but I think H behaved more badly. So overall not so impressed by H in the end, with a lower rating for the book as a result.

The most compelling part of this story—nay! this entire duology—was crammed in the last 7%. The unknowns surrounding Nyssa and her past were what first drew my interest to this story, and it was my desire for some answers that had me reading this book despite how dissatisfying the previous one was. I wish the author had chosen to focus on Nyssa’s past instead of the Baron storyline.
What I did enjoy—the near-death angst. Although it would have been better from the MMC’s pov.
Title: Transformation (From the Embers #2) by Jaliza A. Burwell POV(s): Single—First Person (FMC) Interconnected Series: Yes Standalone: No—Duology Cliffhanger: No HEA: Relationship: M/F Genre(s): Urban Fantasy Triggers:
Landyboi is the worst person. Not only did he refuse to listen to Nyssa, but within 24hrs he already had a revenge plot in place with no other goal than to HURT Nyssa by dating someone else— effectively letting her know that she was trash. He should have at least been able to tell something was up and the fact that he didn’t shows how awful he is.
Then at the very end, he tells her “You should have told me.. so much could have been avoided if you’d just told me” like ya ok buddy, cus clearly you’re Mr Dependable 🫠
And come to find out, he met a girl named Nyssa who was a phoenix and flat out told him they were mates.. and was somehow unable to connect the dots in all his prying into her adult life. You want me to believe this dude dedicated years of his life to protecting Phoenix’s but can’t tell a phoenix was sleeping in his bed?
So he’s monumentally failed her in life crushing ways multiple time BUT SHE NEEDS HIM OR SHE WILL DIE.
Before I even stepped into the astronomical pile of bullshit that was the ending, I was already thinking the best ending would have been if she could have bonded to Slade and they could kick ass together while riding off into the sunset.
Fuck all the time I spent on this duet hoping for a remotely satisfying conclusion

Not one to write reviews, think this is my second ever but I have to rave about this series! The main heroine was strong the entire time even at her weakest she didn't stop. From start to finish I refused to put this down. Not giving to much a way but the curveball to how close a happy ending vs spiffy came made me block out everything until I hit that last sentence. A must read in my opinion! Can't wait to read even more from this author
The story seems to end with this book, as the previous one the characters are very well crafted, there's plenty of action, unexpected twists, and an good ending. What more do you need?
Once I Started this series I couldn’t put them down. This book made me cry. Loved this book. Loved the series. Great fantasy that was so heartfelt and moving. Great writer
This is a fantastic story. It has romance. It has adventure . It has mystery. I loved the relationships. I loved the characters, that have their unique voices and personalities and backgrounds and cultures.
Wonderful characters and extensive world building made this a story I was incapable of putting down. A strong female character that doesn't know what she is but is a formidable opponent without that knowledge. Loved her alpha but he would be groveling for a long time.
Loved the mix of "races", strong heroine and friendships. Love when we find out what Nyssa really is and the surprise ending of her relationship wit Landis.
Nyasia is amazing. This story continues following Nysa in her quest for revenge for the poisoning of her best friend Cecil. Will she realize she has found her mate in time or will it be to late will her quest for revenge make her lose her chance. Will she finally realize what she truly is and embrace it. So many things happen flawlessly this this book. There is love, betrayal, and happiness to be found. Definite must read.
I read romance for the love not unnecessary misery and pain. From the moment of the big misunderstanding l Nysa does is hurt. Landus acts like an arse. I hate the big forgiveness because you’re my mate so everything is suddenly understandable. It meant I read this whole novel jaw clenched and the ending does not make up for that.
Pretty sure if I did not have to be adult i would, have read this book in till I could not keep my eyes open. I love the way this MC acts her attitude, the fighting, the back story all of it made this book truly enjoyable read one to put on my re-read list when you need a strong female lead with a dark side.
This book was pure action from start to finish. My heart was legitimately pounding through every page. It was frustrating too because Nyssa kept secrets too Damn long. But I thoroughly enjoyed it and wish it was a trilogy
