This series of 4 "Dumb Bunnies" books was one of the most popular in my classroom over the years! In this book, the students loved the silly antics as this goofy family heads to the beach. I even loved the slapstick humor!
My 7 year old and I just can't get enough of our favorite dumb bunnies family. These books never get old and are, indeed, extremely silly. Each one is a treasure and I have strict instructions from my little Dav Pilkey fan to never, under penalty of death, donate these to any charity, no matter how worthy. The only books my son ever reads more than once, and indeed reads again and again, laughing himself into near hysterics and hiccups, are Dav Pilkey books. Maybe I'm not quite the last to discover that Sue Denim is a funny Pilkey way of making a pen name. (Psuedonym) After devouring these, your child will be ready to move on the Pilkey's next series, Ricky Ricotta and His Mighty Robot. A perfect series for the very young child's first chapter books. They are very easy to read and perfect for little boys especially. After finishing those, your kiddo can move onto Captain Underpants. My son has just begun the very last Captain Underpants and we are feeling very sorry to have come to the end. Dav Pilky, are you reading this? Please don't stop! Please write something new. We promise to buy it and sing its praises.
Make Way for Dumb Bunnies was my niece's library pick today. Uh, well, I guess it was ok for her. She thought it was funny, and she's getting to that age where she's able to see the subtle things that make a joke funny, so she thought this book was hysterical and clever.
As for me, I am never going to read another Dumb Bunnies book again! This story was asinine, which I get it's supposed to be, but I just hated this book! I thought it was pointless, mean-spirited, and annoying! My sister heard me reading this to my niece and nephew and she said, "Don't you screen these books before you read them to the kids?!" Well, normally, yes. I didn't today, and boy, do I ever regret it!
This story without the illustrations would not be much. It might just seem like a regular day to someone. However, what makes the dumb bunnies dumb, are the graphics. “Combing the sand” should meaning searching the beach, but in this case it is literally combing the sand. It’s taking literal to the extreme. But then again, in our current society, this word play is needed for teenagers and millennials to learn they are “literally” being dumb.
This book is weird, but I could see it being a good logic book for a young child. Understanding what happened and what was supposed to happen could lead to some fun discussions.
Our youngest brought this book home from her elementary school library. We love Dav Pilkey's books, but I think I know why he published these under the pseudonym Sue Denim (ha, ha, snort, get it?) I know I wouldn't want to take credit for them.
But I have to admit that the books in the Dumb Bunnies series are not for me. They are for children and our girls love them. They love the silly humor, the bad puns, and the literal way in which the bunnies live their life (à la Amelia Bedelia.) The illustrations are very colorful and cartoonish and I had to admit I liked the movie poster twists on popular movies.
Overall, not my favorite, but I know our girls loved it. They laughed the whole time they read it aloud to me.
This early work from Sue Denim and then-illustrator Dav Pilkey, the MAN behind Captain Underpants, is a sweet blend of droll MAD Magazine humor and biting Henny Youngman satire. The Dumbest hutch of family rabbits are going to the movies, causing disaster and mayhem (and some AHEMS) along the way. They see their film epic the wrong direction, drive a cahome, only it's not their car but a steamroller that demolishes half of I-95 (or thereabouts) and the littlest (and dumbest) bunny gets a whole tub of buttered popcorn--a BATHTUB! Hope he likes bathing in buttery goodness with extra salt! Really, tho', it's a celebration of doing dumb things in this life and loving it! The song says Dare To Be Stupid, so....why not?
I'm really not sure what to rate this one. I really kind of think it's idiotic, but my kids both really liked it. I'm not sure why I didn't like it because I really kind of like Amelia Bedelia, and it's sort of like that with twists on words and phrases. However, Amelia Bedelia is just so nice, but these bunnies are totally in their own little world. Still, my kids will probably be picking these up in the future. And, I guess, there's some education in the double word meanings, so that's a good thing.
"Poppa bunny is watching the super bowl,Momma bunny is watching the big bowl and baby bunny is watching the toliet bowl!" This is a hilarious book of the dumb bunnies.A storm is a best day to go to the beach and ride your bikes upside down and go underwater holding a umbrella so you won't get wet. Bring everything you need, piano, grandfather clock, refridgerater and TV! Get a TUB of popcorn and watch it through the place the hole where the movie comes from and watch TV IN your pyjamas!
Not a very educational, lesson teaching book. But this series is very funny and entertaining. The dumb bunnies are very confused about life, and how they are supposed to do things. But they are a happy family that love having fun. I wouldn't read this in my classroom, unless we just wanted a Friday, funny book. But this series is hilarious.
I really enjoyed reading this book as a kid. I thought this book was hilarious. Just trying to visualize the illustrations on the upcoming pages made me laugh. The illustrations in this book are all very colorful and definitely do a great job of portraying the stupidity of the dumb bunnies. In my opinion, this book is most likely intended for children and adults who love cheesy humor.
I read the book the Dumb Bunnies and liked it alot. It was fun to read to the kids. This one is not nearly as fun, although the Dumb Bunnies do go to the movies and some of the titles on the movie posters are good. The Lizard of Oz...the Lyin' King...
The Dumb Bunnies are extremely silly and hilarious. My 6 year old loves reading these books!!! He found out about them at school, his Teacher was reading them to the class. The stories are very silly. Good for young readers.
My daughter (age 6) really liked this - she thought it was hilarious. I didn't like it nearly as much as she did, but I'm not exactly the target audience for this one.
Fun to read, however, I'm not sure the how it will benefit education. I suppose the student could identify all the ignorant things that the dumb bunnies did. Interesting book.
