Bestselling author Sarah Fine presents a powerful standalone romance sure to thrill new adult readers everywhere.

What if falling in love is the biggest risk of all?

Sasha decided a long time ago that she would only allow herself a single night each year to go out and be wild. The rest of her time is spent at her pottery wheel or taking care of her father, who has early-onset Alzheimer’s. She has plenty of reasons to avoid anything more than this: one guy, one night, and no names exchanged. But this year, the long and lean stranger she chooses turns out to be more than she bargained for. He makes her feel alive—when it doesn’t seem safe to feel that way at all.

Discharged from the army after a traumatic deployment, Nate returns to his hometown riddled with guilt and unable to envision a future. Everything starts to change during a night out with friends, when a beautiful stranger offers him a no-strings-attached encounter against the wall in the back room of the bar. He knows the deal, but when they run into each other again at the local artists’ co-op where his older brother works, he can’t help but crave more. She makes him feel alive—but he’s still trying to decide if he wants to live at all.

She’s not willing. He’s not ready. But with an unrelenting attraction that weakens their resolve with every passing minute, Sasha and Nate embark on a friendship. One that makes them both stronger. One that makes them wonder if the future might be brighter than either of them ever imagined—until a devastating turn forces them to decide: Is risking everything for love is worth the pain of losing it long before they’re ready?

I was enjoying this writer's stuff, continuing to do so despite some morally ambiguous content in the second book of the series. I was happy to see this third story.

However, I should have refrained. I did not need to read this book, as it contains one of my hard limits and NO trigger warning. The writing was still good, and the writer has a talent for creating likable and relatable characters. But I read romance for enjoyment and expect that HEA. Some will undoubtedly disagree with me here, but there can never be a happy ending for Nate and Sasha. I like to read romances because they feel hopeful and this book is the polar opposite of hopeful. This couple is doomed and their relationship and anything they build is absoutely futile.

I can't give this a star rating at all.

I loved this! I was on a roller coaster with this one and I don’t generally do military but this was really good. Wow! I’m going to be thinking about this for awhile.
It’s about two broken people who find each other while trying to move on from all the things that have damaged them. Parts of this was very hard to read seeing them in so much pain and it kept me on the edge of my seat. It forced me to sit in my favorite reading spot and I didn’t move until I finish it! ♥️

Things I loved:
• The Chemistry
• The writing
• Nate
• HFN
This was an ARC from Expresso Book Tours and all thoughts and feelings were my own! Go buy this book. It was good. You will love it!

I’m sad to report I did not enjoy this story at all.

It had a good start, don’t get me wrong, but ultimately, I lost any interest quickly. And I was so down with the couple and her being older than him, but it was so boring.

Even when stuff was happening, everything was quite uneventful. I wish I’d liked it but, alas, this one was bland af.

3.5 Stars.

This is my first Sarah Fine book so I wasn't entirely sure what to expect, although I suppose my expectation veered more towards romantic fluff. So I was surprised when, although still a complete romance book, the storyline was dark and deeply serious. The journey the characters took was beautiful and heartbreaking. BUT I also wished for a little levity somewhere, at least a secondary character as comic relief, because it became too heavy at times and a little sluggish.

Still, as a romanticized ideal of two tragic persons falling in love, you really can't beat this story. So if that's what you're looking for, then Anything Between Us is for you!

Reviewed on my blog, Becky on Books, on 8/2/19.

This book is. So. Good.

I actually read it before the other two in the series (Starving Artists), so I can say without reservations that you definitely can read it as a standalone. (As a bonus, Sasha's story doesn't have the same squick factor that her fellow "starving artists" Daniel and Caleb do...but I digress. This doesn't mean you shouldn't go back and read the first two--you should; just be prepared.)

I loved Sasha and Nate's story. They both had such barriers to not only having a real relationship together but just to allowing themselves to have happy, fulfilling lives individually--honestly, the problems that they have to overcome on their own overwhelmed me at times, and I was just the reader! Ms. Fine does a fantastic job of putting us into their heads, so that even when we are devastated by something they're contemplating (Nate! and Sasha...) or completely aggravated with them for what they're not saying and/or sharing (Sasha!) you understand why they think they have to act that way. You're not condoning it, mind you, but you can see why they believe they're doing the right thing. You are in their head(s), and it's a scary place sometimes.

Fortunately, (for Nate, Sasha, and us!) Ms. Fine also brings us all through to the other side. Things aren't perfect at the end of the book--just like in life, sadly--but she gets us to something that feels a heck of a lot like an HEA, and we all have hope.

I loved Nate and Sasha together, and I loved how hard each of them worked both on their own and together to get themselves to their HEA. Ms. Fine gave a realistic look into what healing can look like (I'd say she apparently does very well in that day job of hers, if how she has Nate and Sasha learn to cope is any indication) and made me end the book with more smiles than tears---barely. (There were happy tears too, at least!) :)

Rating: 4 1/2 stars / A

Just like the previous two installments in the Starving Artists series, this book also pulls readers into the emotionally intense lives of an immensely likable main couple with a veteran struggling to return to life at home and his unexpected connection to a young woman caring for a father with Alzheimer’s. Their journey as individuals is a rocky one that’s vividly depicted and nicely balanced with a romance that moves at a slow and steady pace of support that each will rely on when things get tough. It’s a tale that put me through the emotional wringer but was empowering as well with its hard fought HEA that put a smile on my face.

Nate Vliet was mentioned a time or two in the previous book in this series, a glimpse gotten of him courtesy of his older brother Daniel. It’s a glimpse that showed a soldier clearly struggling, but who hid his pain behind stoicism, and whose return home makes his pain even clearer. Dreams of a friend killed in front of him, obligations from the family that death left behind, are balanced with feelings of guilt and uncertainty and it’s taking him to a very dark place that the author never sugarcoated. Along with his personal demons he also had to deal with his mother’s battle with cancer that was yet another anchor weighing him down and making his road to healing even rockier. The moment he saw Sasha, the moment of their clandestine encounter, was the lone bright spot during this dark time. Images of her kept him going, but meeting her again is what ultimately saved him. She gave him unconditional support, pushing him when necessary, and it made them a formidable pairing as it led to a satisfying HEA for them both. Nate’s a delicious hero, a wonderful combination of gentlemanly and endearing as he treated Sasha with sweetness and sensuality. Though therapy terrified him, though he feared it would be seen as a weakness, he committed himself to the process to become a healthier man who’s worthy of Sasha and it made me like him all the more. Through subtle words and deeds Nate showed himself to be the hero Sasha needs him to be, being there when she needs help with her father as well as calming her fears over her own chances of getting Alzheimer’s. There was a true give and take between these two that made for a richly rewarding romance full of heart and sizzling encounters.

Sasha and her father have always been close-knit so she’s feeling especially lost and alone that the man who once loved her unconditionally is now starting to forget her. She refuses to leave him though and devotes herself to his cares, leaving time for only her pottery work and the one night a year she lets loose with a man. This year she chose a returning soldier with a familiar look that is soon revealed to be her friend Daniel’s brother. Seeing him again is like giving an addict drugs as she can’t help wanting to be with him again despite her desire to not get involved. Seeing her father’s struggles, her mother’s inability to stay and live up to her marriage vows, has her scared of her own future with a partner and her isolating her heart broke mine. I applauded her devotion even as it broke my own heart. Her choice didn’t surprise me though as her relationship with her ex-boyfriend also had her going to extremes to make him and his family happy. The end of that relationship was another heartbreaking event that fueled her connection to Nate and was a timely reminder to readers about the struggles veterans go through. She too is feeling obligations to others, just like Nate, and it’s something they deal with together in a difficult but empowering journey. Sasha’s an immensely likable heroine with a tough exterior and a heart of gold. When needed she doesn’t hesitate to tell it like it is, but oftentimes she dealt with things on her own as a strong-willed heroine ultimately made even stronger by the power of love.

From the first page to the last this was an emotionally engaging read that dealt with the timely issues of the plight of returning veterans along with the care of those with Alzheimer’s. The author dealt with these issues head-on and with vividly depicted imagery that pulled at my heartstrings and made this a memorable read by the turn of the final page. The romance between Sasha and Nate was a charming one as they clearly wanted more from each other but worried they weren’t worthy of anything more because of misplaced guilt. It took a lot of work, a lot of tears and truths, before they became more than friends in a moment that had me cheering. Sasha and Nate are a delightful pairing, a strong support for each other, in a romance that I rooted for every step of the way. Along with this admirable main couple readers got to revisit past couples (Caleb and Romy, Daniel and Stella) who lend their support and concern to this newly-formed couple while showing their HEAs still going strong. These characters continue to entertain and Daniel showed special insight this time around into Nate that spoke volumes about how much he cared for his brother. Readers also got to see more of welding artist Marcus, an arrogant and tatted-up young man who frustrated me with his actions one moment before warming my heart the next through a heartfelt deed done in the name of friendship. I’m definitely drawn to him despite my occasional anger over his words and am looking forward to seeing more of him. Jewelry maker Nora is a new addition to the story too, an eclectic looking heroine full of energy but short on self-esteem, who seems to fit right in and I look forward to seeing her find her own HEA. On a whole this was a well-crafted story with a strong friends-to-lovers romance full of serious issues that the author dealt with realistically. I was pulled in from the very start and am impatiently waiting to revisit this world as there’s plenty of stories left to tell!

Loved it! And I’m going to be thinking about this for awhile.
It was hard to read at times. It had so much pain and tragedy in it that I had to keep reading to see how it will all end.
It had great chemistry and I love Nate! I can’t even imagine how these two dealt with all this stuff and I was happy with the ending!! HEA ❤️

I’m not sure how I feel about this one. Our heroin Sasha has had to keep it all under control as her fathers heath is fading and fast. Her mom is off having the time of her life, her aunt has her own life and to Sasha feels like she doesn’t care even though she’s been through this, and she’s trying to dea with her guilt.

Nate is freshly home from overseas and is struggling. There are things that can cripple you depending upon how you chose to handle it and for Nate the struggle is almost killer. He’s doing what he can to survive and one wild night between these two blows both of their minds.

Running into one another again wasn’t suppose to happen but it has. The problem now is how are they going to handle it, their own issues, and being together.
All in all it started out great. My struggle is Sashas reaction. My grandmother and uncle both have suffered like her father and I can’t imagine knowing what my future held but instead of the way she acted I was hoping for more. Oh well it was good and I did enjoy it.

Sasha and Nate met one night at a bar. She allowed herself one night a year away from her responsibilities to be wild. She didn’t expect to see him again and then bam he was there. These two were going through so much but they were drawn to each other. What they both went through was tough and Sasha was less inclined to be open and more inclined to push Nate away. Eventually we get a HFN but maybe there will be a HEA (for as long as that could be) as they both open up and heal. I loved these two together and Nate was just amazing.

Thank you to NetGalley for the copy.

CONTENT WARNINGS: Suicide, Alzheimer's, PTSD

I was really surprised not to see a suicide content warning anywhere, but not just that, there are a lot of heavy topics covered. This is not a happy read. Not only that, there is no HEA, only an HFN. I know the difference between an HEA and HFN might not be a big distinction for some readers, but for me, it made a huge impact on how I felt about this book in general and especially the ending!

I did enjoy this more than I thought I would, and the book starts off really strong. But things got a bit repetitive and dark, and I wished a lot of parts of the book as a whole were different. There is a lot of therapy that needs to occur, and both characters need to work through their trauma. Too much made this not the romance novel for me. I know this all sounds vague, but it's hard not to get into a whole thesis about trauma, recovery, and romance!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book provided to me through Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you to the author and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read this book and I'm sorry for the delay in my reading/reviewing; it's been a bit of a year!

I received this book as an ARC and I enjoyed every minute of reading it. Anything Between Us is a story of real issues and a strong push and pull of the characters. Nate and Sasha are both guarded characters with internal struggles and secrets that make it difficult to let other people in.

After being discharged from the army after a traumatic experience during deployment, Nate lives with the guilt of an event that happened while in Afghanistan. He doesn't see that he can have a future because he doesn't feel he deserves it. He internally struggles with how to face the guilt when he comes home and tries to live his life. On his first night home from Afghanistan, while meeting his friends at a bar, he meets a beautiful girl that only wants him for one thing. The thing is after a "no-strings-attached" encounter in the back room of the bar, the girl leaves without telling him her name.

Sasha lives with her father suffering from early-onset Alzheimer's. Because of her responsibilities at home, she comes out one night per year to have a "no-strings-attached" encounter to fill her needs for the year. What she doesn't expect is to feel a connection with a man of whom she doesn't know his name. She isn't looking for a relationship and because of her personal issues and the emotional toll she is dealing with because of her father, she tries everything she can to push everyone away. The only thing that matters to her besides her father is her pottery art.

It isn't until she is at her studio co-op which she shares with other artists does she run into the guy from the bar. Nate's brother introduces them and at first Nate doesn't think Sasha recognizes him, but she most certainly does. He attempts on a few occasions to break down her walls, but she is not easily swayed. He attempts to ask her out several times, but she won't give in. It isn't until she finds Nate in a very comprising and dangerous situation that she starts to give in.

After meeting her father and seeing what she is dealing with is there a shift in the feeling of the story. They begin talking and she convinces him to deal with his problems and to seek help for what he dealt with in Afghanistan. They help each other through hard times and just when you think they are going to get over the humps, the internal struggle Sasha is dealing with begins holding her back more. Nate is there for her and pushes her to deal with her struggles and open up to him. The way they feel for each other is evident in the way they are there for each other pushing each other to deal with the issues they are facing; even when one or the other of them doesn't want to admit it.

The characters and the story line are very relateable to realistic events that happen in our society today. I loved getting to know these characters and although it is fiction, the way you show readers these characters can get through struggles together gives people struggling with the same thing hope for their future. Thank you Sarah Fine for giving us characters that we can relate to and feel a connection with.

I received Anything between us for an honest review through the review opportunity at Xpresso Book. Thank you.

Anything between us is the third book in the series Starving Artists by Sarah Fine (Mila Ferrera) but you can read this book as standalone. This was a wonderful romance between two damaged people Sasha and Nate.

Sasha is a young girl who takes care of her father who has Alzheimer and she doesn’t have time to have fun except for one night a year when she got out to have fun. This year, she had a wild night with a beautiful stranger who made her feel alive and to wish that her life be different.

Nate, after a traumatic deployment, returns home and he feels guilty because he is alive and his friend is dead. He needs a night out to forget about his problems and he receives an invitation from a beautiful girl to have sex without strings attached.

Both of them believe that they only have this night but they meet again the next day at local artists where Sasha works and Nate’s brother works.

They don’t want a relationship but they needed each other. Sasha is lonely and Nate needs someone to help him with his emotional baggage. When Nate found out that Sasha’s father is sick, he helped her with him and he was so patient with him. Sasha was there for Nate when he needed someone to listen to him. Their friendship changed when both realized that they have feelings for each other. They couldn’t stay away from each other.

I enjoyed their relationship and how they fight to be together and to live in the moment. I can’t wait to read more from this author.

Anything between us

★★★★☆ - solid four stars

Nate returns to hometown reluctantly after leaving the military. Sasha is an artist who, takes care of her father , who is suffering from Alzheimer’s, and usually doesn't do anything except work and take care of her father. The first Sunday of September, however, she goes out and finds a guy to have a little fun with - for one night only - and this year Nate is that guy.

This book actually really surprised me, I didn’t expect to like it as much as I did. I actually couldn't put it down once I started reading.

Where I was expecting just a fluffy piece of chick-lit, this book feels raw, dealing with some heavy and complicated mental issues, including depression, grief, PTSD, and anxiety, while also dealing with diseases such as Alzheimer's and cancer, and the stress they can cause to those around them, without romanticising any of these issues too much.

I like that this is a slow-burn romance, not insta-love, despite Sasha and Nate being immediately physically attracted to each other. Although I did feel the urge to hit both of them over the head at some points of the book because they were being so stubborn.

The characters are very compellingly written, who seem so real that you end up feeling invested in them.

it's the story of two people who are broken in their own way, finding each other and healing together.

Sarah makes and teaches pottery by day and takes care of her father with the early onset of Alzheimer's rest of the time. There is not much to her life except for work and caring for her father. She allows herself once a year to go out and go wild. Mindless sex with no string attached. On that night she runs into Nate. What is supposed to be one night only, is slowly turning into something more.

Nate quit the military after a traumatic event in which he lost friends and still dealing with emotional trauma. He refuses help, pretending he is fire to family, but after a close call he has to promise Sarah to go to therapy. Reluctant at first, it helps him get on his feet.

They are both in a very difficult situation. Through the story, we see the struggle, the pain, the cost of disease on loved ones, but also growth and healing. While the ending was not perfect, it was perfect for Sarah and Noah. :)

I don't know why but I wasn't expecting to like this book as much as I did. Books about the army are ones I usually avoid but I'm so glad I gave this a chance. It covers 2 very hard and real topics that's are done really well. Sasha and Nate are both very troubled and going through some really tough times and they both came across so likeable that you can't help but route for them from the off. I liked the build up and there was a good amount of back story. The military and the alzheimers story lines are both very raw and emotional and were tastefully and thoughtfully executed. Although this is the 3rd in the Starving Artists series I didn't need to read the previous 2 first (which I'm going to do now) I'm looking forward to reading more by Sarah.

Anything Between Us is about a guy who's dealing with past trauma and a girl afraid of the future. It's sweet, heart breaking and so very good.

I loved Nate's character. He was strong, resilient and he didn't let the past destroy him. He was sweet and kind and I thoroughly enjoyed reading from his POV. I actually preferred it over Sasha's.

Sasha was also an interesting character, artistic and successful. But she wasn't a favourite of mine.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed reading Anything Between Us and I'm so thankful I got a chance to read it.

Anything Between Us is a fantastic romance novel, but so much more! While the strong chemistry between the main characters is the bases of the story- it isn't. So many important (crucial) things are addressed in this book: PTSD, alzheimers, caregiving, suicide, survivor's guilt, yet the author never makes it preachy or "educational" in nature. It's just a very real look at two people and the reality of their everyday life and the love that is worth the risk. Such a sweet, heartfelt story - highly recommend! Touching, romantic and sexy as sin. Sasha and Nate’s story was so much more poignant and thought provoking than I expected in the most beautiful and richly developed ways.
The depth of their emotions, not only for one another but for the loved ones in their life is so relatable in the best and worst ways. Often books are afraid to touch on the dark, painful sides of being human, and of loving, but this novel beautifully centers those feelings among a well crafted build and break relationship. Absolutely loved this.

This book was . . . depressing. Way too depressing to actually enjoy. Especially for something “steamy.”

I thought it’d be a lonely woman meets newly returned soldier. They’re what each other needs . . . which it kinda is. The everything in between is just too damn sad.

The beginning was really strong. There was a nice introduction and story there, but then it just started going downhill. The characters were bland. And overall, just wasn’t feeling the entire story.

I hate to say it, but . . . to each their own. I know there’s an audience for these types of stories and I’m just not it.

Wow.

This is a powerful story.  Not the easiest tale to read, but it was handled with sensitivity and empathy, and was a one sitting read for me.  I genuinely couldn't put it down.

The author has created characters whose struggles will provoke an emotional response.  I couldn't help but be moved by this story and swept along by it.

This was a poignant, delicate story, and I enjoyed it immensely.

This was a book that started out stronger but then slowly tapered off.

I did read this as a standalone, and I think it didn't hinder my understanding of what went on.

The romance was a bit on the darker side with heavier topics. I did like their chemistry throughout the book, and there were many moments with all the feels.

I gave this one 3 out of 5 stars. It still was an enjoyable book.
