This is quite an enjoyable book with fun/colorful illustrations. I like how the regions of the UK are broken into sections (Wales, Southwest England, East Anglia, Scotland, and so on) along with additional sections about things like: unusual place names, legends and mythological beasts, landmarks, music, food, wildlife, geographical quirks, books, the monarchy, sports, language, festivals, homes & houses, sweets, rivers/lakes/mountains, and more. :-) There is a little quiz with answers at the end, too.

We read this as part of our unit study on England. Miss 6 did not enjoy it. She found the book too disjointed and bitsy rather than having a really good flow and dynamic to the information.

Miss 6 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes. We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors.

I bought this as a present for my little cousin as I thought it would be interesting and educational - I ended up reading it first and I loved it. These fun facts made me love Britain more than I already do, and has made me want to visit some towns that I never even knew existed! It also gives insight of certain vocabulary and where words / names of things came from and the stories behind them.
