PT A dado momento deste volume, a Nikaido grita que está farta e que desiste de tentar compreender — e, sinceramente, é um pouco assim que me tenho sentido em relação a esta série.

Consigo seguir as palavras, percebo o que estou a ler, mas não faço ideia de para onde é que a história quer realmente ir.

Talvez, no final, tudo acabe por fazer sentido.

EN At one point in this volume, Nikaido shouts that she’s had enough and gives up trying to understand — and honestly, that’s pretty much how I’ve been feeling about this series for a while.

I can follow the words, I understand what I’m reading, but I have no idea where the story is actually trying to go.

Maybe, in the end, it will all make sense.

The group of decapitated heads mostly comprising En's henchmen rolling around arguing and attempting to turn their own dismembered body parts into a stew so they can create a doppelganger of Ebisu is diabolically hilarious and pretty much gives a good idea of what this manga is all about. How can they move themselves without their body parts attached? Doesn't matter - they are sorcerers. It's already accepted that they manage to stay alive when completely dismembered so mobility is hardly a stretch beyond that. Then here's Nikaido with her burst of over confidence, getting beaten down, then finally using one shot of her limited magic to alter the outcome. Nicely done. This volume contains plenty of what I expect from this manga.

This manga has been giving me blue balls lately. While there have been some cool scenes/ moments, for the most part we are edging toward the big climax and I am not a fan of edge play.

However, I do believe things will finally start resolving starting next volume.

Great opening. Nikaido in exposition mode was helpful in making me feel up to speed with this crazy story. Her devil mode always makes me feel uneasy, as does Hayashida when she makes beloved characters fight each other. I would have lost it if we lost Haze!
The En family heads rolling around and barbecuing their own body parts was hilarious, as was the doll climbing into the heavily populated body bag. Ended on another cliffhanger, and this time it feels big.

2022 re-read: I’m not sure why I started with this volume but I just miss everyone. It’s sooo good to be reading Dorohedoro again. This is one of my fav volumes ever. Everything is perfect.

( I am currently re-reading the series, my review will be edited later! I enjoyed all of the volumes though! :D)

Summarising with bullet points from now onwards so I can get through my re-reads faster

Spell 118: Reunion
- The long-awaited reunion of Caiman and Nikaido is here. Nikaido couldn't trust him because of his true identity. He's the cross-eyes boss after all. Caiman is merely a creation made by accident because of Risu and Ebisu's magic.
- The two stared at each other in complete silence until Caiman's stomach rumbles, breaking the ice. He asks about their whereabouts. He still thinks that it's last year. Nikaido remains cautious of him as he could be the boss trying to steal her magic.
- She intended to knock him out but was stopped by a devil. The devil advice them to get the "store knife". It's the only way out of the store. It is deemed the strongest weapon in the world. The devil quickly vanished after telling them to find Haru (Haru still has the knife. It was borrowed from Chidaruma). Does anyone else notice the devil's mask? it looks familiar! I think I know who it is NIKAIDO! Did she go back in time to save them? AAAAA
- Nikaido's guts tell her to trust the devil and Caiman. The two proceeded to find food. Meanwhile, the house full of devils safely landed at the central department store

Spell 119: Evil Day Trip
- Nikaido is still wary of Caiman. She finally remembered that his current head with the cross-eyes marks and missing spikes is the very same one they pickled in formaldehyde. BUT who would resurrect Caiman? What is Caiman's true identity? Overloaded with information, she decided to stop thinking and decided to share with him what has been uncovered about his identity.
- Chidaruma leads the group of devils to meet with the boss. They're going on foot. The house is merging with 'him' now. It's like a field trip, kinda cute. One of the devils forgot to lock the house. Haru saw an opportunity to let Prof Kasukabe go without detection. She offered to lock it. Chidaruma is aware of this but remained silent. He mentions how ' the smallest of things can affect destiny. I think he's just letting things go their course to see the outcome.
- Haru is surprised by this but deduced that he might be too focused on the boss to notice. Haru shares with Kasukabe that a devil was demoted back to a sorcerer for hiding something (Asu). Kasukabe thought that this punishment wasn't very 'devilish'. Haru adds that it would be shameful if she were to turn back into a sorcerer as devils are confident and are proud. They arrive at the house and the devil's tail acts as a key. She locked the house and flew somewhere to drop Prof safely.
- Meanwhile, Nikaido shares with Caiman some of the things that she knows. She also shares with him that a year has passed. Of course, the first thing Caiman asks is what she thinks about his face. Nikaido being brutal answered him with 'you weren't bad. but you weren't great either. it was okay.' Hahahaha, girl!!!!

Spell 120 : Biological Renovation
- We see Shin attempting to fix his arm and still connected to the tube. A dark figure is seen to be controlling him and directing him to go somewhere (probably to Caiman and Nikaido's location)
- Nikaido and Caiman found the devil's black house. Haru might be in there. Caiman asks about devils. She promises to explain to him later. The door is locked but instincts tell Nikaido to use her tail on the keyhole. It's pitch black inside so she used her devil eyes abilities. They see the house itself. Nikaido is able to talk to it. It has agreed to take them to see Haru. Nikaido shares with Caiman that she is a sorcerer who is turning devil. She told him that he was also a sorcerer but was created artificially. Although everything has been explained by Nikaido, Caiman grows conscious of his identity but was quickly reassured by Nikaido.
- Nikaido plans to trigger Caiman like back in Zagan City to get his memories back but she doesn't know how he will react this time around. She senses that everything has to be connected and something is about to happen. Or has it already?
- Caiman couldn't believe that a year's gone by. She held his hand to comfort him *so cute*
- Prof mentions that the store now looks like Hole. Haru plans to drop Prof somewhere far and adds that she'll get him when she's done. Carrying an impure substance in the devil's body for a long period of time can cause it to purge (melt/rend the impurities into pieces). Before she was able to let Prof out, the black house appeared. Caiman and Nikaido came out asking for the store knife

Spell 121 : Haru's gym class
- Smells are triggering Dokuga's memories. Ebisu grew wary. They found an exit from the tunnel to find that the 'town' is blacked out
- Meanwhile, Kawajiri and Risu are still tangled. They're in a room with multiple coffins filled with bubbling sludge. There can hear some groans. Risu seems to recognise the place.
- We see Shin following the mysterious floating dark figure into the room.
- Nikaido asks for the Store Knife from Haru. She mentions that an associate told them about it. Haru refused to because Chidaruma would kill her
- Nikaido attempts to take it by force. The two fights. We finally see Haru outraged (girl is hella pissed). Nikaido, still in the early stages of becoming devil is overconfident & act impulsively (just like her pal, Caiman hahaha)

Spell 122: Pit of the stomach
- Back at the central hospital, Johnson woke Dr Vaux and Thirteen to say that Prof Kasukabe's in trouble. The three head to the department store to see that it has vanished
- We see Chota and Turkey's heads on the ground in the room filled with coffins. Risu recognises the figure because he was there when he was trapped inside of Caiman. Shin and the figure exited the room. Risu tries to break loose. He thinks of the time before he joined the cross-eyes. He was filled with rage and hatred then
- He transformed back to normal and is free from the tube. He finally knows how to control the 'curse'. His hatred stems from the cross-eyes killing him and it grew over time, angering 'Curse'. Kawajiri mentions that he's not totally in control of the curse yet but it's a great start
- Kawajiri insisted that he go find the man who killed him and leave him there. He is surprised to see En's family members (Chota, Turkey & Noi) in bad shape on the ground
- Caiman tries to help Nikaido but slipped on her blood, causing damage to Haru's stomach. Devil muscles are able to absorb damage. Unfortunately, Prof Kasukabe is affected by it
- Dokuga tries to be accommodating to lady Ebisu. They decided to rest. Ebisu quickly fell asleep on his lap. Dokuga is still trying to recover his memories. He opened the body bag and En's face triggered his memories
- Turkey begged Risu to help them but he kicked their heads around before leaving the room ( it's justified... I mean, they did treat him like *sh*t* )
- Chota found Fujita and Tetsujo ( The scene is disturbing but I couldn't help but laugh!). They tried figuring out why Shin tore their bodies apart. Noi is out cold. They filled Fujita on Sho's death and Ebisu's (and Judas's Ear) whereabouts.
- Fujita mentions that he has En's tumour and although his hand was ripped out, it's still holding onto it tight. They praised him on this
- Turkey plans on making a Judas's Ear doll but the group figured that it might not be the best idea. Fujita advises Turkey on making an Ebisu doll instead because she might be where En's body is
- The team agreed (not Tetsujo haha) to use their body parts as 'food' for Turkey's magic doll (I swear, En... if you get resurrected, you better treat your family right!)

Spell 124: Evil's tail
- Haru tries saving Prof Kasukabe 'Haze' from getting swallowed by her muscles. She empties her devil's pouch revealing the store knife. Nikaido tells Caiman to grab it and kill Haru (girl, the normal Nikaido would grab the knife and run Devil Nikaido is built differently). Apparently, the knife is very heavy.
- Caiman managed to cut one of her horns. Saddened by Prof's 'death', she is now also enraged by Caiman's treatment. She proceeded to melt his body. Nikaido got the knife and proceeded to use her time magic to avoid her death

Spell 125: Rare body parts
- The gang helped Chota remove his mask. It was revealed that he's had plastic surgery. It didn't go well so it left a huge scar on his mouth. Due to the fact, he is able to spew smoke from it. Chota's magic will help nullify Shin's (Although their body parts are cut off, they're still alive. However, in order to make a doll, the ingredients must be turned into raw meat). When Shin's magic is nullified, their body parts will die. Chota mentions that their heads will remain intact but they will feel a lot of pain for awhile
- Tetsujo tries stopping them but to no avail ( What can you do with just your decapitated head, boy? )
- Turkey decided to cook the body parts on a BBQ grill. They cry at the sight of it (anything to bring En back, huh?). Ebisu's doll is created. However, it isn't stable. The lack of spice decreased its accuracy. It can still walk, though. Fujita quickly attached his hand (with En's devil tumour) to Ebisu's. The three are hopeful for En's revival
- Nikaido used her magic and has two more tries left. She went back with the store knife to the time when she and Caiman were holding hands

Spell 126 : Free Play
- Risu was able to find the dark figure using Curse's senses. We see that it's still giving Shin orders. The two split up. Risu decided to follow the dark figure
- Meanwhile, the devils are still walking in a line towards the 'boss'. They praised the decor. Chidaruma mentions that they're inside 'him' now. The decor is a representation of his 'mind'? What the heck?
- They decided to take a break from walking. The devils insisted that Chidaruma tell them a story while they eat. He tells them the story of the birth of sorcerers.
BIRTH OF SORCERERS
- This was when hell was founded
- Sorcerers were made by Chidaruma out of boredom
- They multiplied and became impudent. So he created a place to punish them
- To deepen his relationship with sorcerers, he created masks and also made it possible for them to train as devils
- The sorcerers began to bore him so he found a new land, the 'Hole'

Before he got to explain more, break time is over and the devils start their journey again

- The future Nikaido tries hiding from past Nikaido and Caiman. However, the house revealed to past Nikaido that another version of her is behind it (you snitch, hahaha).
- Nikaido gave the store knife to 'past' her and advises her not to fight Haru

Spell 127 : Return of the cycle of life
- We see the dark figure going somewhere. There's Ai's badly injured (melted?) body. It tries killing it(?) with the tubes (?) but it quickly disappeared (huh?). So this figure is not Ai? WHO THE HELL
- Nikaido and Caiman said goodbye to the house. Since Caiman is good at knives, she gave it to him. It is heavy too. All of the sudden, Nikaido vanishes into thin air
- We see her back to where she was. There's no sign of the house, Haru or Caiman's corpse. Nikaido hopes that Caiman is alive but he came behind her out of the blue (I LAUGHED SO HARD). The two FINALLY HUGS (COME ON MAN! T__________T)
- Nikaido shares with Caiman about her magic ( I love how back then, it's hard for Caiman to accept the fact that Nikaido is a sorcerer. Now he seems totally unfazed by it. WE LOVE A GOOD DEVELOPMENT)
- We see Prof Kasukabe getting out of the funeral home (Since the timeline changed, I guess Haru successfully dropped him off?)
- Ebisu woke up to find Dokuga tempering with En's body. He recognises him but he still can't remember who he is. We see Shin heading towards them. Of course, Ebisu is delighted by this.
- Before Shin was able to hurt Ebisu, Dokuga quickly dodged his attack. While Dokuga is fighting Shin, Ebisu made sure to keep Judas's Ear safe. The three hides inside of En's body bag
- Dokuga starts remembering Shin while they were fighting. We see Ebisu's doll approaching them. She climbs in the body bag. Judas's Ear is distraught with the smell of death in the compact space and spews smoke. We see a hand reaching out (EN IS THAT YOU??)
- Caiman doesn't remember Prof Kasukabe (they haven't met yet a year ago). Prof calls him Ai
- We suddenly see the tube connecting to Caiman's body and the dark figure approaching them

GREAT VOLUME ABOUT LOYALTY, PERSERVERANCE & PATIENCE.

It's from when she was training to become a devil. CHIDARUMA'S DRAWING WRECKED ME. WHAT WERE U THINKING? NOT HIM THINKING NOI QUIT BECAUSE SHE DIDN'T LIKE HIS DEVIL DESIGN LOL but SHINOI FOREVER YAS

Probablemente antes no me complicaba con cierto tipo de lógicas en las historias, pero una serie que dice ser más madura, dista demasiado de la palabra. Utilizar viajes en el tiempo estilo Tokyo Revengers lo puedo aceptar, y entiendo que acá también no es el objetivo, sino dar respuestas a enigmas o un deus ex machina para avanzar la trama, solo que desde mi perspectiva no era necesario. Otra cosa que me molesta, aparece Kaiman y pensaba que iban a explicar más del tema, era obvio que no, pero tenía esperanzas. Por otra parte, Nikaido tiene unos racionamientos que me gustaron demasiado, pensando sobre si Kaiman es Kaiman, o si debe confiar realmente en él, quizá es parte del enemigo, pero todo queda en nada, porque luego que lo matan, ella cree pensar que ese es el verdadero Kaiman y sin dudar utiliza su poder (quedándole SOLO dos oportunidades) para evitar el pasado. Es decir, cambiaste de un extremo a otro en cuestión de páginas, sin tomar ninguna medida preventiva. Además, ahora que es demonio la hacen tan estúpida, siendo que tiene mucho potencial. En fin, ya estoy en la recta final, pero dudo demasiado que me vuele la cabeza, a excepción que la autora sepa mezclar muy bien las historias y haga un gran cierre de la historia, pero no tengo confianza, aunque espero equivocarme.

Nikaido reunites with Caiman and has a conflict with Haru; Risu grows; Ebisu wanders; we see Chota's face; and the Devils are up to something- part tour, part unknown, but all fun, all the time.

I'd forgotten how much I missed Caiman until reading volume 19 of Dorohedoro. The return of this character bring much needed irreverence and joy back to the story and centers it. I get the sense that we've returned to the point of it all, with a little bit more knowledge about Nikaido, Caiman, sorcerers and devils in our minds. Speaking of which, Chidaruma tells a very interesting story in there.

The only thing I can't get past is that everyone seems to cheat death all the time. There's very little actual loss that the characters experience, which means I find it more difficult to care for them than I would otherwise. Nonetheless- it's rollicking read.

The bulk of this volume is devoted to Nikaido striving to reconnect with Caiman, and while it's a worthwhile story arc, it doesn't leave a lot of room for much else. There is a bit where Ebisu and Dokuga have a confrontation with Shin, occasional focus on the devils, and...a part I don't want to spoil, with characters we haven't seen in little while, but the spotlight is on Nikaido and Caiman. And that's fine. I've missed Caiman. Not Ai, or the boss of the cross-eyes, but Caiman. It's good to have him back. Still, the tension and mystery surrounding just what the hell Ai is up to is palpable by this point. I hope we get more of that in the next volume.

ok the heads bbqing their bodies scene was amazing, excited to see if en is revived / what ends up happening now that the ebisu doll made it to the body bag, the nikaido and haru fight was fun and nikaido meeting her near past self was also fun, its hilarious having kaiman from a year ago thrust into this world bc it rly effectively demonstrates just how far we have come, how much has changed and how much more we now know about as readers than the Kaiman from a year ago who had never even been to the world of magic users. ughhhh now i just wanna know how its gonna end its killing me!

Menudo acierto comprar los tomos 18 y 19 a la vez. El mayor cliffhanger de la serie.
Qué serie tan bonita.
Recuerdo cuando me la recomendaban y yo no hacía caso porque pensaba que no tenía trama y que sólo iban a ser locuras.
Y en realidad es eso en un ¿80%? No sé, pero qué bonito es Dorohedoro. QUÉ BONITO ES.

NOI WAKE UP!! I DON’T LIKE THIS !! NOI WAKE UP!! Nikaido tells Caiman a little bit of what she knows about his “true” identity and then they fight Haru for the store knife. Fujita, Turkey, and Chota try to create a doll of Ebisu but their bodies are sliced into pieces! We also finally see Chota without his mask and get the story behind why he even wears one in the first place.

Dorohedoro se acerca definitivamente a su final sin dejar de sorprender y mantener la tensión en ningún momento, la verdad es que volviendo la vista hacia atrás con todos los personajes me parece muy loable como ha ido haciendo el entramado entre tantos secundarios para ir preparando la recta final.

Risu gave me the biggest belly-laugh of the whole series so far. Haru and Kaze are beautiful and doomed; Noi and Shin are beautiful and I want the best for them even though it seems like Shin might be beyond help. And the Extra Evil chapter about Noi's training...awwh. So damn cute! Also Kaiman??????? ?? ? ?????
