Well "Lowcountry Boomerang" was a really great installment into the life and work of private investigator Liz Talbot. Happily married to Nate, and running their PI agency. The eighth installment has the usual, a curious murder case, Colleen still the island protector and keeping an eye out for Liz and Nate. And Liz's father and his dog doing something ridiculous. I really needed a comfy book this weekend, and this one fired on all cylinders for me. I also like that for once, Boyer seems to be setting up something to the future of the series. So I am curious about that. The only reason why I am giving this four stars though is that there is a huge plot hole (okay maybe two now that I think about it) that are never resolved. I am curious if Boyer will do so in the next book or what. It's so weird too since there seemed to be something sinister going on with both sub-plots.

"Lowcountry Boomerang" has Liz investigating when hometown boy turned Hollywood star Darius DeAndre Baker is arrested for the murder of his high school girlfriend, Trina Lynn Causby. Trina was an investigative reporter, and there's a possibility the new case she was working on could have led to the murder, but after a secret is revealed concerning Trina and Darius and the fact they argued before her murder, has the police settled on him as their prime suspect. When Colleen tells Liz to take the case since Darius is going to be someone important to the island of Stella Maris (yeah that whole thing is going on still) Liz and Nate start trying to figure out who wanted Trina dead and why.

Liz is stressed in this one. She knows the money that she needs to pour into her grandmother's old home is a lot and she doesn't know how they can get that money. Nate seems fairly unconcerned about it though and one wonders what is going on there. I am imagining some big secret being revealed that he's a millionaire or something, but I found it curious that Liz and Nate don't sit down and actually thoroughly discuss their finances.

I did like that we get more Nate and Liz togetherness in this one. They do split up their work, but they get back together throughout the book to start discussing suspects and motives. One of my favorite things was them going undercover and going out drinking with two potential witnesses.

Liz's father continues to be a mess. I am curious though about where the marriages/partners are going to be for Liz's brother Blake. Poppy seems a bit....eh honestly.

The writing was good though seriously though, two huge plot holes get ignored for the resolution of the case which felt like a reach to me at times, but I just went with it. The flow was really good throughout the book. I'm glad that Boyer chose to focus on the mystery instead of peppering Liz with dreams and or her obsessing about keeping Stella Maris from being developed. It's brought up here, but is not central to the main story. I also liked that Boyer discusses how Trina being white and Darius being black was not something that her family was willing to deal with via a marriage. The book head on discusses racism and doesn't try to just pooh pooh the thing away.

I loved the setting of Stella Maris, but also enjoyed Boyer being more descriptive about the lowcountry and Charleston in this one.

The ending as I said, hints at a future for Liz and one of her relatives, am very curious on how that is going to go.

I enjoyed my previous visits to Stella Maris Island and the lowcountry of South Carolina and I was not disappointing the eighth installment of the Liz Talbot series. I read it in one setting as it is difficult to set down. Colleen plays an important role in the story.
Darius deAndre Baker, a TV star has return to his home. Shortly after is return an old nemesis, Trina Lynn Causby is murdered. The police are pressure to arrest Darius. Along with help from Colleen, Liz and Nate
work to clear him. After a few twists and turns the guilty party will surprise as it did me. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK AND SERIES.

You can't go wrong with this series. i love Liz and Nate's intelligent, methodical approach to crime solving. And the setting is somewhere i would love to spend a lazy weekend.

I received this ARC for a honest review.
I have been reading this series and was excited to receive this ARC.
Liz hears about the case of Trina Lynn Causby from her friend Moon who's dating Liz's very good friend Sonny. Moon just knows that Sonny wanted her to tell Liz something about this case and Liz can't mention any names about who she heard it from.
So from the beginning we are drawn into this who killed Trina case.
The clues and suspects wind around and around and just when you're sure you know whodunnit, you find out who really whodunnit and it sure was a complete surprise to me
Lowcountry Boomerang is well thought out and very well written. Such an enjoyable read. I hope the author writes fast for the next one.... it's going to be hard to wait.

Things should be free and easy for Liz and Nate, they have just finished a case and Nate is handing the information over to the lawyer whilst Liz heads to the local diner to catch up with the gossip over lunch with the diner's owner Moon Unit, Moon Unit has been seeing a Charleston police officer by the name of Sonny Ravenel (who is also Liz and Nate's first point of call with the Charleston police force), he sent a semi cryptic message via Moon Unit as he has a new partner who doesn't think that PI's should be anywhere NEAR anything to do with a police case, but Liz trusts Sonny and more to the point the current Stella Maris guardian spirit (aka Colleen, Liz's friend who was killed in high school) has turned up and is very interested!  Before too much longer Liz and Nate's idea of a relaxing couple of months have gone by the wayside as they have a new client in the form of Darius Baker who is accused of killing his former girlfriend the local investigative reporter Trina Causby.

Now Liz and Nate need to dig deep, Colleen needs to keep Darius safe whilst he is (regrettably) locked up and everyone needs to try and keep family and friends safe, because if Darius didn't do the deed (and Colleen swears he didn't) then there is still a cold blooded killer out there.

I always enjoy a visit to Stella Maris, South Carolina. Catching up with Liz Talbot, her husband Nate and their friends and families is always interesting. In this outing, Liz and Nate are hired to find evidence that Darius Baker did not kill Trina Lynn Causby. There might be a lot of evidence against him, but Liz and Nate are sure he is innocent and the case is looking like someone has it out for Darius. There are many suspects for the murder, but none seem really strong enough, so Liz keeps digging, putting herself in danger as she gets closer to the truth.

Private investigator Liz is a wonderful character. Not only is she smart, but she is genuine, cares about family, friends and the environment, especially the island. She pursues leads without judgment, following the clues and leads she and Nate uncover. Some of the trails they follow seem improbable but when everything fits together, they were right on. The many characters in Stella Maris have become friends to this reader. I love Liz's family and her parents, specifically her father, are always good for a laugh. In this book, Sonny, her contact on the police force is unable to contact her or work with her, so you know something is going on. Of course, Carol, Liz's friendly ghost is on hand to help with the investigation. She is still protecting Stella Maris, so Darius was her assignment in this story. Liz just had to figure out what he has to do with the care of the island. This was a well-written and plotted book, as I have come to expect from Susan M. Boyer. I love her descriptions of the area, especially as I will be there next year and will be checking out some of the area described. The mystery was interesting and had me reading this one in one day. I was not able to figure out who the culprit was, which always makes for an interesting read. As the conclusion is presented, I was surprised about the killer, but the reveal and finale was very well done. I definitely recommend this book to cozy mystery lovers, especially those who enjoy Southern Mysteries. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book upon request. Dedicated fans and new readers are sure to love Lowcountry Boomerang! Susan M. Boyer knows how to create characters for her readers to love, or dislike. Those we dislike may not be the villains of the novel but they sure aren’t loveable and they offer reasonable red-herrings without making us feel cheated. The plot was excellent and complex as always and made for a great read. I think Lowcountry Boomerang has supplanted Lowcountry Bordello as my new favorite.
I requested an received a copy of this book via Edelweiss, so thanks to them and to Henery Press as well as the wonderful author! As I tell the world how much I enjoyed it, I am ready for the next book in the series, but they are well worth waiting a year for.

I loved it! I had to drop everything until I was finished with this book. Private investigator Liz is a truly genuine person. She pursues leads without judgment based on her own set of solid values. It's fascinating to watch her and her husband hashing out their hunches and uncovering answers. Some of the trails they follow seem probable but aren't until finally everything fits with a gratifying snap. This is one of my favorite authors. She makes me long to visit the sites and restaurants and feel the southern camaraderie of her friends and family. Someday I will make it there and it will be because I enjoy this series so much. I love this series. I think in a way it reminds me of what small town life is like, everyone knowing everyone and in some way everyone is related to each other....I like how in this book the mystery starts off right away. There isn't a lot of fluff or too much of a lead in, instead- bam, dead body, suspect, go!

TV star, Darius Baker is moving back to Stella Maris. He is done with life on the road and wants to return to his roots, however within a week of him being back, his ex-girlfriend, Trina Lynn is found dead and a witness remembers seeing HIM throwing away the murder weapon in a trash can. Liz's long time friend and Charleston police officer, Sonny knows something isn't right and inadvertently alerts Liz to the situation so that she can start investigating. Liz and Nate, with the help of Liz and Stella Maris's ghost protector, Colleen, start investigating and find out that there is a lot more to Darius, his many ex-wives and Trina Lynn.

I was actually pretty surprised by the killer. It was a good ending to the book and I really liked hearing more about Liz and Nate's private eye business.

This is the eighth book in the Liz Talbot mystery series by Susan M. Boyer.

I am always an advocate for starting off the book by jumping right into the action but in this instance the murder happens before the book even starts. I felt like I was a few steps behind when I started reading. This series is one of my favorites but for some reason I didn’t feel the normal connection I was used to between Nate and Liz. Oh, they did and said all the right things but I felt there was some sort of spark missing. Not sure what it was. Maybe it was just me.

The entire storyline concerning Darius Baker, a celebrity coming home to Stella Maris to lead a quieter life, really caught my attention. I thought that whole backstory was fascinating. I wonder if any of these characters will show up in future books. There were a LOT of people littered throughout the book and it was easy to tell who was who… even the more minor characters were well rounded. I thought that was nice.

In the Afterwork there is a mention of this book taking place in 2015. Since I am not familiar with the area, I did not notice any irregularities in terrain and structures, but people from the area might. Some landmarks were different or not even there in 2015. I find it nice that this is set in a real place. Gives the book some depth and history.

There wasn’t as much of the Stella Maris ghost as there has been in past books. I miss all the banter between her and Liz. It is what makes these books so fun to read.

Concerning some of the normal cast… I didn’t totally understand why Sonny and his new partner were not let into the story fully. They were pushed to arms length the entire time. I missed them. I think having them to bounce ideas off of might have made the identity of the killer so much more simple to detect and understand. We really had too limited a view of a couple of the main suspects. So when Liz had that leap in logic about Sonny’s cryptic clue I was surprised to the identity of the killer. Not what I was expecting. But that is what you expect in mysteries, right? For them to throw you off track and hand you a red herring or two.

It was nice to see Liz’s parents have a bigger role this time and Blake was around a lot more, probably because Sonny was persona non grata. Of course, the book wouldn’t be complete without one of the main characters losing a car or two. Their insurance must be sky high.

All in all, it was one great book. I had a few misgivings but as a long-time fan of this series, I can over look those things. I might have to do a marathon of this series in the future. This is a world I am happy to invest my time in. Definitely a cozy mystery series to keep your eyes on.

Part of my enjoyment in this series is the main characters of Liz and her partner Nate – their ties to family and community, the pure ‘southern’ feel of the stories and the settings described and built for instant imagery. It’s easy to follow along as they investigate and ferret out the clues, with constant interference (or hiding from) the local police, or as in this case, delving deeper when the police have been ‘warned off’ by powers higher. A local boy has returned home after making a name for himself in show business, and not long after his high school sweetheart and up-and-coming local reporter is found murdered in a fairly public area. Nothing about this case is particularly straightforward to anyone but the police: the two had dinner and were observed in an argument – therefore he is the culprit.

But Liz doesn’t believe it, the circumstances and ‘testimonies’ of the witnesses, all tourists, doesn’t seem to fit, and her meeting with Darius didn’t leave her feeling as if he’d done it either. But the police have arrested their ‘only’ suspect, and the case seems to be a simple one. Until a bit of a hint is dropped by their detective-friend on the mainland, that leads Nate and Liz to believe there is more to the story. And the more, could be very dangerous for them. When you add in the investigation, an ‘explosive’ ferry ride, and Liz’s mother and father having their ‘usual set-to’s’ as most long-married couples do, the insets of family life, the setting and a particularly muddy dog all add up to winner!

Boyer adds in twists that continue stories and relationships established earlier in the series that help to further enmesh Nate and Liz into the setting, and while you don’t Have To read the earlier books in the series, I’m sure that you will want to – it helps to see who is who and get a real sense of the South Carolina coastal area and islands in which they live and work. With some marvelous food scenes, landscapes and town wanders – you will feel like you are on a walking tour of the area, and are sure to recognize many of the landmarks (and even the feel) of the place instantly. With a well-crafted mystery that needs solving by this unusual duo of Liz and Nate, and the downtime between ‘chasing clues’ perfectly balancing the tension, the story is easy to read, not easily solved and a great escape for a few hours of entertainment.

Lowcountry Boomerang is the eighth book in Susan Boyer’s Liz Talbot Mystery series. Ms. Boyer provides enough character background that this book can be read as a standalone. This is an easy read that moves along at a steady pace, providing readers with a well-crafted mystery, well-developed characters, Southern charm, humorous situations, and just a touch of paranormal. There are plenty of twists and turns and red herrings to keep the reader engaged. The reveal was quite a surprise.

Liz Talbot and her husband, Nate Andrews, are private investigators who live in Stella Maris, South Carolina. Liz’s high school friend, Colleen, is a ghost and Liz and Nate are the only ones who can see and communicate with her. Colleen is the island’s guardian angel, and her assignment is to protect Stella Maris, but she looks out for Liz and Nate as well. Liz’s family is a hoot and her dad, Frank, has a talent for getting on her mom, Carolyn’s, nerves. Merry, Liz’s sister, recently married Joe; Liz also has a brother, Blake, who is Chief of Police for Stella Maris. Moon Unit, Liz’s friend and owner of The Cracked Pot, who is dating Charleston Police Detective Sonny Ravenel, tells Liz that she believes Sonny wants Liz to talk to Darius DeAndre Baker, who recently returned to Stella Maris and will be arrested for the murder of Trina Lynn Causby. Darius and Trina were high school sweethearts; Darius moved to Hollywood and became the star of the hit TV show, Main Street USA, and Trina stayed in the area and became a local news anchor. Colleen assures Liz that Darius is innocent. Liz believes there was pressure to solve the case, which led to a premature arrest. Liz refers Darius to Fraser Rutledge of Rutledge and Radcliffe, a law firm she and Nate are under contract with. Liz and Nate, who are well organized and methodical in their investigations and leave no stone unturned, believe someone is trying to frame Darius, but need proof before the case can be solved. Searching for that proof places Liz and Nate in harms’ way.

The Liz Talbot Mystery Series is one the most enjoyable cozy series out there, and the eighth installment LOWCOUNTRY BOOMERANG is the best book to date. Full of relatable and likable characters, a complex murder investigation, and the fabulous Charleston, South Carolina, setting, it is a delightful read.

This installment finds Liz and her husband/partner Nate looking into the death of a local TV investigative journalist and trying to clear the high profile prime suspect’s name. Was Trina’s death a random act of violence, related to the secrets in her personal life, or a result of her poking around for a news story?

I love armchair travel, and Boyer’s depiction of Charleston and the surrounding region make me feel like I am right there in the midst of it all. I particularly enjoy the descriptions of the wonderful food from some of the area’s finest and most beloved establishments. There is something quite special about the Lowcountry, and Boyer’s love for it shines through on every page.

I really like all of the characters. They are well developed and realistically executed. I particularly love Liz’s parents whose relationship is endearingly quirky. Liz and Nate are intelligent and resourceful, and some of my favorite scenes are those in which the pair bounces ideas off each other working through the clues of the case. Unlike so many cozy protagonists, Liz and Nate are professionals so their investigating never seems forced or inappropriately nosy, and I appreciate that they work openly with the police. The mystery is solid with a somewhat surprising resolution.

LOWCOUNTRY BOOMERANG is a lot of fun. Highly recommended.

Lowcountry Boomerang is Susan M. Boyer’s 8th and Best Liz Talbot mystery so far, in my humble opinion.

Susan’s writing is superb! And the mystery’s fantastic plot is as hard to unravel as a Rubik’s cube.

You are laughing one minute, crying the next, then holding your breath or screaming out loud, then back to laughing. All the way through the story. And you never do figure out who murdered Trina Lynn Causby, a a crusading reporter for a local TV station, until the end of the book.

Right after the murder, it turns out that Darius Baker, a Stella Maris resident who used to be Trina’s boyfriend in high school, but left for years and became the star of the national hit TV show, Main Street USA, is back and accused of the murder.

But lots of quirky characters appear from Liz’s previous mysteries including Colleen who tells Liz and Nate that Darius is innocent and they need to prove it.

Many other possibilities exist who could be the murderer, including a previously unknown to Darius love child, a son Trina had when they were briefly married young teens, his other three ex-wives, Trina’s two secret lovers and one of their wives, a stalker, and a good “platonic” male friend.

Sonny Ravenel, a Charleston Police Detective who has a new partner who plays by the book, is sending Liz and Nate signals about the case surreptitiously through his girlfriend Moon Unit at the Cracked Pot restaurant she owns.

There’s lots of craziness from Liz’s mother and father and sister Merry and brother Blake, Chief of Police of Stella Maris, and his girlfriend Poppy. As well as a whole bunch of fun new characters added to the mix.

I read this new mystery in less than a day and can’t wait for Susan to write Liz Talbot Number 9.

I have to start this review off by saying that I absolutely adore the Liz Talbot series by Susan M. Boyer. I discovered this series last year and quickly read through all of the available books. I was SO excited when I received this book earlier in the week. This book was well written with mouthwatering food descriptions and characters that you become really invested in. I think it probably helps that the Isle of Palms/ Charleston area is one of my absolute favorite places to visit so it's really neat when places I am familiar with are mentioned in the book.

The book starts off on an intriguing note when Liz finds out about the Trina Lynn Causby murder case from her friend Moon Unit Glendawn, who is dating another of Liz's good friends Sonny Ravenel. Moon reveals that Sonny is troubled by a case that he's being pressured to make an arrest and he doesn't believe that the man he is supposed to arrest is guilty. Since he's being pressured to make the arrest, he can't talk to Liz or Nate himself. Once Liz and Nate are hired to work on the case the mystery really gets going. This case was full of twists and turns but when the killer was revealed I was absolutely shocked. Everything made sense though and seemed to be logically resolved. I am intrigued to see what Nate's surprise is and can't wait to read the next book in this fantastic series. I highly recommend this book if you enjoy well crafted mysteries with characters that you feel a real connection with.

Unfortunately after meeting with local television reporter, Trina Lynn Causby, who just happens to be his supposedly first wife for dinner, she is found shot to death. Liz Talbot and Nate Andrews, Liz's husband, Private Investigators, are hired to help prove Darius's innocence. With the help of their Guardian Angel and Liz's best friend, Colleen, they strike out to provide proof for the law firm of Rutledge and Fraser. You will find the description of the various areas within Charleston will make you want to plan a vacation there. Susan Boyer hasn't failed with this new book and it will be great to see what Liz, Nate and Colleen will strike out next.

Liz and Nate are drawn into another murder mystery, this time without Sonny's help, they must solve the murder of a local TV reporter. Her high school boyfriend is accused and Liz and Nate are on the case. Lots of suspects and a surprise ending makes for a good read. There is a foreshadowing of the next book and what is to come will be a surprise for the entire family. Another well written story in this series and well plotted. The family scenes were not so over the top in this book, but still filled with laughter. A great read, one I thoroughly enjoyed!

Susan Boyer’s love letter to the South Carolina coast, Charleston cuisine, and Southerners in general, continues with this exceptional installment of the Liz Talbot series. I read the book straight through in one sitting and could not put it down. As usual, she kept me guessing until the end and emotionally invested in all of the characters. This one ends on a cliff-hanger, and I cannot wait to see what happens next!!! (I also can’t wait until my next trip to Charleston to try out all of the restaurants in the book….)

Susan Boyer has done it again! Lowcountry Boomerang had my attention from page one and kept me reading late into the night. The author’s character development is spot-on. Liz is relatable, like someone I’d actually like to be friends with and hang out with. Yet she has just enough quirky friends and family members to keep things funny and interesting - much like real life! The portrayal of her “typical” southern family is great. Lowcountry Boomerang was my favorite book in the series yet, but then again I say that after each book. Do they keep getting better? Or is it just that the characters feel so much like family, it is like returning home with each new book? Keep them coming, Susan M. Boyer.
A special bonus in this series is that Boyer showcases all of the great eating establishments in and around Charleston, so that all of her readers keep wanting to visit each of them. Love this series, and love Liz, Nate, Mamma, Daddy, Blake, and Merry.

'Lowcountry Boomerang' was perfection! It was like a treasured treat that I didn't want to have end. I love Liz and Nate with their surrounding cast of characters. They are so well drawn that I feel as if I could go to South Carolina and visit them. The mystery was expert, with twists that had me completely surprised. I highly recommend this entire series. Please keep them coming!

I have read all the books in the series and have to say this is the best yet. Love how the characters are developing and the storyline as usual is great and kept me guessing.
