Good book but with some caveats. First there was some cussing in chapter one which was of course totally unnecessary. Next while there were some vague references to God, there was nothing to indicate that any of the characters were Christians or that God was important to any of them. That being said, I did enjoy the book. I can't recommend it as Christian fiction, but it's not totally secular either. I guess it's in between. If you don't mind that, then you'll probably like it.

audible:Great read! After a virus wipes out most of the population,a new order arises. They are The Authority which oversee all things. To get the anti viral that you need daily or weekly...you must obey. After so many years of this, our 'hero' can take no more so he steals packs of the viral and he and a friend escape. They have quite the journey after that! Kevin Pierce was a terrific narrator.I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

When a virus is intentionally released to cull the world and bring it under the thumbs of a select few things get dire for the masses. One man who has been well taken care of by the masterminds of the takeover decides he can no longer stand by and watch so many suffer. Great characters and non stop action move this story along. I highly recommend it for the fans of dystopian.

Joe Branch

I love this book. Well written, great characters, almost no one was spared a trip to the bone yard. A great story about a man-made virus and a overreaching government that enslaves it's citizens. Sounds like something not too farfetched. Enjoy Mr. Steven Bird is a excellent story teller.

The meds used in this book sound exactly what they inject in to my knees twice a year! I guess I’m immune now!
Kevin Pierce is my narrator crush so he can do no wrong. He is excellent and I just live his voice!
The story is great, loved it and loved how everything played out! I have listened to and read several books by this author and enjoyed them all. Starting another one by him today!

Benign and boring. The writing is wooden even for a non native me. A conspiracy theory, mild weaponry masturbation, plot holes... I stopped reading soon after appearance of the obligatory beauty and subsequent events.

Joe Branch has been working for the One World Alliance (OWA) since the outbreak of the deadly Sembe` virus. Under the guise of saving humanity, the OWA has become the masters of the populace. Once Joe discovers the truth, he is determined to do what he can to break their hold, and in the process becomes the most wanted man alive.

Bird’s first installment of the Breaking the Beast series, The Redemption of Joe Branch could easily be read as a standalone novel. It is told in the first person by Joe. After he realizes his employer is a coldhearted beast, he sets out to take this message to others. Are they willing to listen to his story, and most importantly help him try and defeat the beast?

The characters are well developed, and the pace is rather exciting. Nothing is predictable. It’s a hard book to put down. So, grab a cup of coffee and sit back for the ride.

5 out of 5 stars.

Steven. I really enjoy all your books but the way you crafted the build-up to the end here had me crazed.

Come along as we dive into another apocalyptic scenario; this one a pandemic intentionally unleashed on the world’s population by a power-hungry cabal dreaming of world domination. We’ve seen it a hundred times before, madmen wanting to remake the world in their own image. Exploiting what’s left of the world after the destruction they’ve wrought. Our protagonist, Joe Branch is a former Washington D.C. police officer. When the remnants of government started to rebuild, Joe was a perfect fit for the security forces. With his experience, Joe rose quickly in the ranks becoming a Lieutenant. His best friend Ronnie also was a D.C. Police Sargent becoming Captain. As Joe and Ronnie familiarize themselves with operations and regulations, they realize that that the leaders, known as the One World Alliance, do not pursue any form of Constitutional government. They subscribe to the New World Order theory. Ronnie enlists Joe in a risky plan to liberate and then take enough of the viral antidote to Army Headquarters where it can be researched for a potential cure. This is mostly the background you’ll receive in the first couple of chapters. The story chronicles Ronnie’s and Joe’s efforts to make a difference in the war against evil. EXCELLENT

Whew. What a ride. That Mustang Shelby GT500 that is.

This book is like a action packed movie. Fast paced, thrilling scenarios, characters you can relate to and all of the heroes.... not just Joe and Tamara but Bud, Mark and the thousands of unsung heroes who died trying to protect their family and the men and women who fought against the OWA.

This is one book you will enjoy reading. Have to admit I stayed up until 2:30 this morning and fell asleep with my kindle in my hand.

Fav quotes:
“The OWA’s European leaders underestimated the American people’s deep-seated beliefs in the Second Amendment.

I looked around the room, with everyone staring at Tamara and me as if we were some sort of heroes. We weren’t heroes in my eyes. We were blessed. That’s what we were. There’s no way we could have done this alone.

Another masterpiece by Steven C Bird

This is an un-put-downable, action packed book from beginning to end. The characters are strong, likeable people hellbent on saving mankind from itself. The author may be up and coming, but I will be truly surprised if his name isn't soon a household word. I have read each of his books that have been published so far, and whether they are a part of a series, or a stand alone title, they get better as Steven C Bird comes up with them. He has made me into a fan of a genre of books I never read before... TEOTWAWKI. I only wish I could give it more than 5 stars.

The premise of a world government that engineered the crisis/pandemic that brought them to power by being "saviors" has been done before. This story differs because the characters are well done enough to motivate us to cheer for them. I still find it inspiring to read in a book of fiction of people willing to give everything to the cause of freedom and there is no better example of this than Bud. Were there writing errors? Yes. Repetitive dialogue, at times. I still found this enjoyable and satisfying to read.

Picked up this book on a recommendation from another author whom I follow. Although the plot was fairly simple, it was well written and enjoyable. While fiction, this could easily translate to reality if we keep going the way we are.

The ending left room for the possibility of a second book which I would welcome.

What a ride!

What a ride this turned out to be! Great story with believable characters. I enjoyed the different take on a virus induced apocalypse. You need to settle deep in the saddle, low in the seat, and fly by the seat of your pants with this one.
